Speaking of naming things I hope once the Apothecarium grows large enough they get named the Valkyria. Since they do decide which of the mortally wounded get to fight on in death for the rest of eternity.

where as Knights tend to be unable to do that to their users
Knights definitely can (and often do) kill "unworthy" candidates trying to pilot them.
I personally have nothing against Blink spiders, the problem is the rest of Avernus does.

Our entire population has arachnophobia to a level that's probably going to become genetic and for good reason so naming something after them while scary isn't really a good idea.

Especially since as far as I can tell the Elite Ops are not meant to be intimidating (well nt to the people of Avernus anyway)
Yeah, Spider emblem on our Elite Ops could lead to some Elite Oops.

As for names I personally like Helhrafn(-ar) (Hel's Raven(-s), it fits the Norse theme and ravens were generally associated with death, especially in battle, for example wariors in poems were sometimes called hrafngrennir, "raven feeders", which is actually another cool name but bit long and hard to remember) or Helhunters (simple, aliterative and fitting our naming conventions) the most.

As far as I understand the operatives are not very secret.
They are essentially more military snipers, deployed to kill high-power Chaospsykers or enemy heroes who show their head, not infiltrators or any kind of political assassins.

If any governor gets killed by a Super-Exitus or gets killed in his bed after someone managed to sneak by his entire bodyguard people will propably make a short count where all the available Operatives where at the time anyway.
I believe that they are far more then just snipers. It's one of thier skills but not thier main one. They probably do other stuff as well depending on what is needed.

Actually, while not their only skill, sniping is the main one. There's a reason why we equipped them with rifles each of which cost about the same as four warp capable kilometers long starships.

Eh not so sure about that.

We gave them the best we could give, but each of them are master swords men among other things.

Sniping is not Jane's schtick after all.

I'd say we gave them the rifles because

A. We want them to have the best equipment
B. Because sniping someone from another hive seems like the easiest solution to killing a rampaging beta.

So yeah its one of their main skills, but they do have others.

Many others.

Its part of what makes them so deadly, they have so many options to take down their opponents.

Hmm.
Could it be that the reason that Niflheim is so cautious about space exploration and colonization is that they're afraid of the Necrons coming for their bodies? Being soulless and thus lacking those icky psyker potential and vulnerability to Chaos, the Niflheimers would make perfect flesh body hosts for the Necrons to transfer themselves into.

Actually it seems Durin is using Newcron lore and in it the whole "Necrons creating and using pariahs" thing was thrown out of the window.

Actually if we go by Shape and Dusk lore crons making Blanks was thrown out too.

It was the C'tan there, the Crons didn't know they could use them for bio transfer either, took Qah to point it out to Sahzerk personally.

Still I don't the Nilfar are what the Crons need if that is canon, too much of a soul still there.

And even then who knows if that's what Durin wants to do with them.

@Durin
1. Now that he's got the MoS stc to compare to can Tranth tell if the Well's data net is one of a MoS?
2. How did the Farseer react to Ridcully?

And yeah wild hunt seems appropriate, if not child friendly :D
1. unknown, no one looked at the MoS STC
2. surprise and a bit of respect
@Durin, can you answer some questions?

1) Are requirements to a Princeps of a big Titan much higher than to a Knight pilot?
2) Are any of minor alien civilizations we've found corrupted?
3) Are any of them useful or just interesting?
4) So, how bad would conservatives react if we will use Troll mercenaries? Probably not too bad, even Imperium used xeno mercs sometimes.
5) Maybe some Sirens are willing to offer us mercenary services too?
6) In theory, can cyclonic torpedoes be downscaled to non-exterminatus weapon?
7) How much better Librarians are than normal Neoastropaths?
8) Do we have stasis chambers? What about Blood Dragons?
9) How much are cultists in stasis safer to carry through warp? What about ones in artificial coma, or criosleep?
10) How realistic are the rumors about Lamentors? How's likely that they actually are somewhere relatively close?
11) Do we have any idea if they're actually attract problems or just subconsciously attracted to problems? Or both?
12) Did we tried to bypass Questling Beast stranger effect?
13) What's happening with written depictions and with drawings?
14) Did he described it to strong psykers, to Saint Lin and to blanks?
15) Do we have lists of things that Questling Beast isn't? "It is not a plant, it is not colonel Brindos, it's not pink with violet squares, it doesn't have power to turn stone liquid..."
16) Does Ridcully have any insight if it's the Eldar who awakened Ork gods? Maybe they know that it will happen because it's their work? That passage about old allies...
1. yes
2. yes some
3. not really, most are pretty young and several only exist as Ork slaves
4. not very on Avernus, badly if you took them offworld. there is a lot of fear of Avernite lifeforms that is not limited to conservatives (totally rational fear)
5. bad idea, a Siren going out of control and eating a allies soul is a worst case scenario (Imperial Trust declaring war on Aernus worst case)
6. no
7. a lot, one to three orders of magnitude
8. yes and no
9. safrer but by no means safe, also to expensive and cryolsleep is not very safe at all, at least in numbers. this has come up a lot I should emphasis that anything that looks like going reeving to capture souls would lead to major diplomatic issues both within the Imperial Trust and with external groups (the only other people who do that are Dark Eldar and Chaos)
10. they range massively in realism but there probably is one close, it is very rare to see more then 2 at a time these days though and they refuse to stay put due to the danger that brings on all around them
11. unknown, there are rumors says both
12. yes, you failed
13. it blurs
14. yes to the first two and to Niflheimers, who are not really true blanks
15. no
16. no

as far as names go I am not sure but one idea I have been considering is The Last Hunt

So no going out to capture souls, chaos corrupted xenos or not.

Also "Last Hunt." I like that.

Did the Eldar realize that a human was sending the warning?
Pretty sure he got the warning across.

I'd rather we didnt gain Fae characteristics. The galaxy is already full of Elves.
I meant in a always focusing on something else absurdly skilled +strange and mysterious kind of way.

I mean at this point we already are the wild hunt of the trust we go in and kill everything they do not like and mercilessly too...

Or maybe that's just the Black Irons.

@Durin, if you're picking a name for the Super-Elite Operatives I strongly advise against anything that could be considered pretentious. The Last Hunt most definitely counts. It has to be something simple in the same vein as Assassins or Space Marines. That said, you can definitely make the High Gothic name for the organisation pretentious-sounding. Just keep the Low Gothic name to something simple and which would fit in when compared to other Imperial organisations.

I don't know exactly what you mean?

Wild Hunt is very simple, and its no worse than Ultramarines, all the variations on angel, knights skulls and others out there?

They're meant to sound cool and Wild Hunt is simple.

Personally I like Hel Hunters (alliteration and fits with our naming theme), but Wild Hunt is cool too.

Thanks @Durin, I have some more questions:
1) How much requirements to a Princeps higher than to a Knight?
2) How's testing for that potential is done? For both Knights and Titans?
3) How much knight potential is hereditary?
4) So, nobody does mind sacrificing the chaos xeno, but actually raiding them for slaves viewed not so lightly?
5) How close is the closest Chaos Xeno civilization?
6) Did we tried to make lists of things that Questling Beast isn't and it didn't worked too, or we didn't tried?
7) Are we sure that there is no abhumans evolved from original Helheim colonists around?
8) So, are we sure that worshipers of Planetary Mind come to it purely on their own, and there is no some subtle influence?
9) Does their faith protects them from Chaos corruption the same way as faith in the Emperor was when he was still alive?
10) Does it give any other benefits that can be a work of Avernus?
