The "just" is not about how serious our relationship is. It's responding to the question we were asked: we have no interest in his family beyond dating his daughter.

That depends on how you interpret his question and whether or not he's actually asking for multiple things with a single question.

Yeah, he's clearly asking if JoJo is a threat. But he's probably also asking about his intentions towards his daughter in regards to a relationship at the same time. With the latter 'just dating' isn't a good answer.

If he expects one answer to have different interpretations that each address a different possible interpretation of his question, he has unrealistically high expectations for conversations.

Also, your vote has the "just" too, unless it's changed since I last checked.

In the interest of not splitting the vote and the sake of Jotaro style brevity, I'll switch to this.

It's the girlfriend's father, of course he does. At least when it comes to his daughter's suitors.

The obvious meaning of the question is if JoJo is a threat. But the additional question of 'how serious is this relationship' is pretty hard to ignore considering the context of the situation. Mizore kissed JoJo on the cheek right before she left. You don't think her father's question is also about JoJo's views on their relationship after seeing that?

As for the plan, as it was written it didn't include 'just dating'.

'Cause fuck it.

I could get behind this. If he's considering marriage he certainly isn't a threat to the bride or her family...

And it's nice and brief like the 'just dating' voters insist on. And it has a bit of Jotaro being a jerk, but not too much.

I'll also add that it doesn't really matter what YOU mean by the "just dating", what matters is how Hiyasu interprets it. Assuming the other party will fully know and understand your meaning and intentions is a recipe for things to go poorly.

After Mizore clearly displayed her affection for JoJo, Hiyasu then asks what Jojo's intentions are regarding his family...and then the "just dating" vote has JoJo reply in a way that can easily be heard and interpreted as dismissive and/or as not being serious about the relationship.

Plan So Cool is long winded for JoJo, but it's better than sounding outright dismissive.

Varano's vote is nice combination. It's pretty much as brief as the "just dating..." vote but can't be interpreted as JoJo being dismissive of the relationship with Mizore.

For a bonus it has JoJo give his future father in law some attitude, but not too much.

Oh, and if Mizore is listening in I bet her reaction would be amusing.

As I have said... many, many times, it would help to bear in mind that "chargen is an ongoing process".

I have not currently rejected any of the suggested responses, because in my mind all of them are sufficiently believable (or would be, given some very minor tweaking).

So based on the votes proposed so far the 'not in character' argument amounts to bupkis? Good to know.

I'll go back to Plan So Cool then. Varano's vote is a good compromise, but I like a lot of what Plan So Cool says.

This was rated Insightful by the QM...now, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm correct here. But it is a strong indicator that this is something we should be thinking about. That the "just dating" part may well be interpreted in ways that we don't fully intend, because we don't control how the other characters think and how they hear and interpret what we say. We also don't control what they were thinking and fully meant what they were asking.

Well EvaUnit has just said that it's not out of character.
Part of what makes the question of "is it OOC, or isn't it?" so relevant here is that AFAIK, Jotaro was never shown in this sort of situation in canon. So in my mind, there's a bit more leeway in terms of what the questers can get away with than might be true in other situations.

I like the way you madmen think.

I believe I have not posted in this thread before and I might I say, I like this. The characters feels like them selfs and the fusion of the two worlds works. The stand seen are interresting. I like the ship the ship in place and this is one of quests I have quite enjoyed reading.
I was originaly planning on going for the 'so cool' plan but...this is more fun to me. I kinda wanted the corny "Join it" answer to question "What do you want with my family". This has the same feel as that but with extra Jotaro.
Also, are their any omakes about yuki-ona Jolyne? It seem intresseting to me. Maybe if this quest finishes we can have a jolyne based sequel (probally not but a man can dream).
