The losses we took on Fjol IV alone were enough to seriously push up our consequent losses from wildlife.

If we send more of our forces away and attack the Roks left on our planet we can easily get in a similarly overstrechted position as we were back then.
........
.......
That was before we effectively doubled the size of our military. All of our current deployment plans will merely leave us with our pre-expansion levels staying at home, which was more than capable of defending our cities.

  1. What would a plan where we specified sending regiments that don't need recruitment/replenishment look like?
    1. How would it be viewed by our advisors and other planets?
    2. Would it leave the invasion force with an unbalanced composition?

We have doubled our military again and again since the beginning of this quest and the wildlife casualties have always stayed high and always more so with depleted troops.

[X] Send the entire Navy
[X] Send half of the Battle Psykers with Imperial Trust Fleet
[X] Send 80% of the Helguard
[X] Send 80% of the Helltroopers
[X] Keep all the PDF on Avernus

We need to ensure that the orks won't be able to reform and just come at us again, so we should go immediately.
The Imperial Guard goes out and kill things, the Planetary Defence Force defends planets. That's how the organisations are supposed to work.
Keeping half of the psykers with us because Chaos psykers can really fuck us up.
Sending only 80% of our IG so that if they all get lost on a warp storm, we retain the ability to bounce back from that loss.

Bad idea, Xavier we can loose, Tamia is not only our best researcher, she's also the only one who can progress us down the song weaving tree at the speed we're going at.
Xavier is our best bet for blowing up Roks, he's good at that.
Tamia can stay far behind the lines when attacking the Orks, no big risk. Besides, wasn't Ridcully our best researcher?

Nope Tamia's got 36 learning compared to Xaviers 18 and Ridcully's 21.

In terms of actual researcher its technically Tamia (who gets +5 to all psycic research rolls and a high bonus) , Xavier (Cause of Genius researcher) then Ridcully, but he's got such a high control that for things that use it he's really good.

And yes it is a risk we're sending them into an active warzone, send the person who can solo an army leave the one who can't home so she can continue to make us great discoveries.

We can deal with the Roks fine without Xavier.

@Durin I have some questions here.

1: Is this just the initial invasion target? Or is it the total list of invasion targets for this crusade?

2: If we want taking Garkill's Domain to be our eventual goal, then what planets should we target first?

3: If we want to take Danaan, which additional planets ought we take to create a more dependable supply line, and/or secure a better defensive posture for it?

3a: Is there a preferred order for taking these planets?

4: I assume that the ten regiments will be going as long as we send an Avernite General?

Those were my questions, thanks durin.

The rest of this post is going to be discussing the deployment options and my thoughts on the matter.

I'm pretty strongly in favor of sending the entire Navy.

Our defense monitors and orbital defenses ought to be able to defend the moon bases, while Avernus can stay dependent on it's superior land forces if we face any real threat (which is unlikely with Valinor crippled).

I'm pretty strongly in favor of sending 3/4 of the Battle Psykers, as a boost to the reputation of the Telepathica seems like a big deal to me.

Right now I'm leaning towards sending half the Helguard.

Leaning towards sending 1/2 the Helltroopers, but none of the Helltrooper Fighters (we lost 40% so I think we need to keep the ones we have, we can't keep on losing all our fighter pilots). At the least send no more than 1/3 of the fighters.

Leaning towards sending half the PDF with the invasion force. Particularly if we are going to be more aggressive in seizing territory than a single planet.

Since Syr is going, I'm leaning towards keeping Rotbart on Avernus. Plus with the damages done, I think we need his Admin skill on planet as well.

I'm seriously thinking that Ridcully is the most important person to send along. His divination skill would be enormously helpful to the invasion. Also leaning towards sending Xavier as well. We ought to send at least one of them no matter what though. We should also send Master Zhukov. Also, Elina Eads, Pyromancer/Biomancer (B), Colombo Ryers, Teleknetic (B), Marita Hobbs, Pyromancer (G), Andromeda Rattray - Pyromancer (D), 1 Diviner (G), 1 Pyromancer (G), 1 Telekinetic (G) (all from the list of Elite Primarus Psykers).

If we are staying on Avernus, then we should definitely send General Schwarz.

We should send Marshal Marija Paulson, as a sniper and vanguard leader will make for great force multiplier against Orks.
Marshal Lucina Eichel has bonuses to avoiding ambushes, so I think she would be a good leader to send.
Since the Azure Isles have no Ork threats, we definitely ought to send Marshal Paolo Donovan (plus he has proven very successful in all our previous of-world battles, so might as well keep up the tradition).

Others to consider sending:

Marshal Hye Richards, one of the best tacticians, leader of the Helltroopers. She would be a major help to the invasion force, but maybe we want to keep her on Avernus to aid with cleaning out the Ork fortresses.
Marshal Tanner Pope, has the best Intrigue skills of our generals, has bonuses to stealth rolls, and is the best at leading scouts. He could benefit the invasion force a lot, but could we use him on Avernus?
Marshal Samanta Khol, one of our better generals (probably on the short list to advance to Schwarz's position), might be worth sending her to have her gain more experience fighting in co-operation with the Imperial Trust forces.
Marshal Tychon Rakes, leader of Duat forces. Definitely could use some more seasoning and experience.

I think we should send at least two of these four, and maybe three.

Leaning towards keeping Richards on Avernus to lead the battles against the Ork bases.

This seems like a good idea, asking Durin some questions to know exactly what this would be.
1. total invasion targets for this campaign
2. the two mentioned, they are the main sources of ship and Gargents respectively which are the main threats
3. Dooneeva and one other in between
3a. Sigard will decide operational details like that
4. yes
I think it's probably feasible to take both of the suggested worlds. @Durin:

1) What's the relative position of the two worlds?
2) If we take both Dooneeva and Danaan, can we secure a supply line and local space between the two?
1. on opposite sides of Garkill's Domain, with Dooneeva near you and Danaan near Dragon's Nest
2. you would want to take one more world between if possible

    1. How would it be viewed by our advisors and other planets?
    2. Would it leave the invasion force with an unbalanced composition?
1. not sure, have not taken the time to ork out what percentage of your forces saw combat, it would involve keeping almost all of your Light forces on Avernus for sure
1a. rather unweildy
1b. yes, very

[x] Per Prior Planning Plus
Invasion Target

[x] Target both Dooneva and Danaan for invasion
We have some extra force and will have more going forward - Dooneva is a high value target and forward base.
Stay on Avernus
[x] Ask for a bit of help- Delay the fleet leaving for a week so that the elites can assist on the ground and the fleet can provide fire support- This should be long enough to destroy any hordes on the ground and inflict some damage to the strongholds without sacrificing much of the initiative or losing much of the gathered forces.
The Trust came here to help and we've sustained a week of extra casualties to protect them. It also makes it politically and practially easier to send a sizable contribution - if there are no more Orks on the march then taking troops from the front, resting them, healing them, renewing their kit and embarking them all get simpler and our population will be happier about it.
Force Contribution
Navy

[x] Keep half the Navy at Avernus- strong protection to Avernite orbitals, little to no loss of reputation
Much more than we expected to be able to send, no need to take silly risks. Our light ships and SDF ships have been taking casualties and we will still have Ork fortresses to reduce when the fleet leaves.
Psykers
[x] Send three quarters of Battle Psykers with Imperial Trust Fleet- This will provide a major boost to the invasion force while leaving enough Battle Psykers on Avernus to train the students and deal with Chaos Psykers. Boost to Imperial Trust reputation and Adeptus Astra Telepathica reputation.
This is one area where we do have plenty to spare.
Helguard
[x] Keep half the Helguard on Avernus- good amount of Helguard on Avernus for offensive operations, provides some super-elites to Imperial Trust Guard, small boost to Avernus' military reputation
Much more than we expected to be able to send, no need to take silly risks. Still a warzone, heavy casualties among more mobile elements etc.
Helltroopers
[x] Keep half the Helltroopers on Avernus- good amount of front line troopers on Avernus , provides some elites to Imperial Trust Guard, small boost to Avernus' military reputation
Much more than we expected to be able to send, no need to take silly risks. Still a warzone, heavy casualties among more mobile elements etc.
PDF
[x]Write In: Keep three quarters of the PDF on Avernus- good amount of soldiers on Avernus, useful force for Imperial Trust Guard
PDF aren't really for offensive operations but they'll be real handy in the fortifying phase.
Heroes and Generals
[x] Send Syr, Xavier, Richards and Schwartz
[x] Accept Quartok contribution.

The war will still be happening in 6 months and we'll be in a better position to send more then.

I RETURN...

Aaaaaaaaand must go again :(. Still we should probably be voting for plans, cause I cannot be bothered to read that tally.

We should send as many psykers as possible, get their rep up.

Ditto for other forces; Conquering faster is generally better. Elites do it faster than regulars, so we should send Helguard and Heltroopers.
