[X] [Alicent] "You have a place in my heart and that will never change. I will fight to keep you by my side."

[X] [Tarly] "My children will rule Dorne in time and they will be Dragons. Through blood, Dorne will be conquered."

Part of me wants to appeal to Tarly's sense of honor as a knight

Something like "if I were to face an opponent who upon realizing they could not defeat me yield, would you have me cut them down out of sheer bloodlust or let them surrender with honor?"

I really like the narrative of it. In other hand we learnt after cutting Arnold head, that Tarly really have a pragmatic view of Knighthood.

Does it feel to anyone else as if Rhaenyra got a bit blindsided by Alicent here? She was expecting to have a conversation like this if it was with both Alicent and Gwayne, but she wasn't really expecting it with just Alicent. It feels to me as if it would have been easier for her if it had been both of them, not just Alicent, though perhaps that's just me.

If Rhaenyra was seriously pursuing Gwayne as a marriage candidate then yes. As of now? No, he really does not have control over his sister's love life/future. Morally Alicent should be in control of that, practically Otto is.

Rhaenyra getting married very much has Alicent thinking about what future their relationship has and well, Gwayne does talk to his sister when we're not around.

I think it is just logical conclusion of Alicent and Gwayne having their own discussion.

I like the write-ins, it sells the warrior queen mentality I like in Rhaenyra
[X] [Tarly] Write-in (Subject to QM Approval) "Make no mistake, this is a conquest of Dorne, a submission of Sunspear to the Iron Throne. They will bow and they will bend. Or I will break them. "
[X] [Tarly] "Whatever the terms, Dorne yielded. Would you have me cut down a defeated, yielding enemy out of sheer bloodlust?"
[X] [Alicent] [Defiant] Tell her you will speak to her father and work out a deal to keep her by your side as long as she wishes.

[X] [Tarly] "I have final say on the terms of the marriage and I will not accept a deal I find too lenient to Dorne."

I've read the write in version of this and it feels like it'll be a hard sell to the thread overall. The leading vote, Conquering through blood, doesn't seem convincing in the least. Like, what does tarly care for conquests of blood?

Not much stake in the Alicent Romance so I won't be participating in that vote.

Perfectly logical and I certainly didn't mean it as a complaint, so apologies if it came across that way. It did feel to me as if it caught Rhaenyra unprepared, but other characters doing that from time to time is a good thing in my view. Them taking things in a different direction to what she expected makes them feel as if they have more agency independent of her and shows she isn't omniscient. I suspect a diplomacy focused Rhaenyra would have felt more prepared for this conversation than the romantic fighter we have.

Okay, i really like this idea.

With this, we appeal to Tarly honor, and also remind him that HE teached us what it means to be a knight.

To have honor and discipline, and be more than just a bandit in armor.

[X] [Tarly] Write-in (Subject to QM Approval) "Make no mistake, this is a conquest of Dorne, a submission of Sunspear to the Iron Throne. Dorne yielded. Would you have me cut down a defeated, yielding enemy out of sheer bloodlust? What type of knight i would be then? You taught me to be better than just a simple brute in armor."
[X] [Alicent] "I cannot claim i know what the future holds for us, but right here and right now you have a very special place in my heart, and i don't see that changing anytime soon. This is not just me "having fun", as your brother might think, i consider our relathionship something serious and i will fight to keep you by my side Alicent."

I love the idea of combining like this, it makes for a single, thematically unified, warrior princess knight sort of response. @Teen Spirit is that kosher?

It's allowed but it does stake your arguement on this being a conquest of sorts.

I mean, its not like we have to convince anybody beside Tarly that this is a conquest, or at least Dorne yielding before the might of the Iron Throne.

The only thing thst would plave doubt on this argument, is if Dorne got terms too good in the treaty.

We COULD try to appeal to Tarly ego and say "look, you trained me so well that the Dornish are too scared to even fight!".

But that would be a pretty weak attempt at manipulation, and feel out of character for Rhaenyra.

Our Ser Rhaenyra trying to appeal to Tarly honor as a knight makes more sense, especialy if she is framing Dorne as a defeated enemy.

i like the framing of these.
she wants Dorne pulled into the fold, if the marriage negotiations fall through then she will bring them in by force (or at least i'll vote for a dorne conquest if the marriage falls through).

i'm willing to bargain with Otto, just worried about how he'll cash his favor. most obvious ask is a marriage to our heir, but that's counting chickens before they hatch

At first I was leaning towards the "Fight to keep you at my side" option but the more I thought on it this one seems to give Alicent the greater agency in her fate. Working something out with Otto was inevitable even with the "Fight" option though this one doesn't have us outright declare how we view her place in our life.

Marrying your vanquished enemy into your line to merge claims is a time honored Westerosi tactic. Starks did it, Baratheons did it, Lannisters maybe did it. I'm pretty sure the Gardeners did it with the Hightowers. Tarly himself comments that the Dornish would rather break before they bend...so let's skip those steps and get to the consolidation so the Realm will be stronger when other foes appear. A warrior's touch will eventually be needed as is mentioned in the update...the Dornish have Marcher Lords too, not to mention those who feel they've been slighted by us.
