Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Also, hmm... This actually works, I think. @DragonParadox is this a valid splendor?

The Splendor takes the form of something otherworldly. It may be a religious symbol, an overtly
magical object such as a wand or pentacle, or a strange haze. It may be an inchoate thing of
coalesced light which can be held and touched. This Element defines the Splendor's physical
form and gives it a character, and that character is aligned with the power of the Spirit World.
Other Elements may draw upon this fact.
The Splendor can be summoned directly into the Umbra when made to manifest, if its owner
desires. As the basis for an Adornment, it grants its user the ability to see and interact with spirits
on the other side of the Gauntlet. As the basis for a Fascination, it can interact with both the
physical world and the Spirit World.
The Splendor manifests in the world as an enchantment embedded in a specific person present at
the time of its summoning, chosen by its owner. If it has no other Form Element, then it appears
as a mark like a tattoo somewhere on the infected individual's body. Wherever they go, so too
goes the Splendor. If it has a physical Form Element, then it appears in the infected individual's
possession, and will always return to them at the beginning of each scene even if thrown away,
left behind, or given away. If its physical Form is something immobile like a tree, then the
targeted individual is going to find that tree wherever they go for the duration of the Splendor's
manifestation.
If the Splendor is an Adornment, then this Element allows its benefits to be enjoyed by the
person to whom the Splendor is attached, even if they're not its owner and not attuned to it. Even
if they're not Exalted at all.
This Splendor changes a person's Nature.
As part of an Adornment, it grants its user a different Nature while in use. This Nature is chosen
when the Splendor is designed.
As part of a Fascination, the Nature it bestows is based on criteria defined when the Splendor is
designed. This might be eternally fixed (simply creating Bon Vivants, for example) or it might
be contextual (changing a target's Nature to its polar opposite, or causing the target's Nature to
match their Demeanor). If the Splendor doesn't contain a condition under which the target may
revert to their original Nature, or the target fails to satisfy that condition, then they return to
normal after one day for a 1-2 dot Splendor, one week for a 3-dot Splendor, one month for a 4-
dot Splendor, and one year for a 5-dot Splendor.
This Element can only be part of an Adornment.
The Splendor stokes the fires of the Exalt's Essence whenever she affirms her innermost self.
When she regains Willpower from fulfilling her Nature, she also refills her Essence pool.
The Splendor's outward trappings may be modified to reflect the aesthetics of an ancient sorcery
spell that the creator knows. For example, a Splendor that uses Scourge the World and Form of
Graceful Winds to create a deadly ice storm might instead create a swirling rain of obsidian
butterflies, or a downpour of venomous spiders.
The Splendor causes a transformation in accordance with its character, as defined by Form
Elements such as Form of Graceful Air. The nature of the transformation depends on the Form or
Forms in play, but might include transformation into things like a sparrow (air), pig (earth), a
living flame (fire), a fish (water), a stag (wood), a walking corpse (death), a semitranslucent
spirit (spirit), or a fantastic beast such as a sphinx (dreams). These are meant to be examples, and
not an all-inclusive list.
As an Adornment, this Splendor requires a point of Willpower and a turn spent in transformation
to either assume the characteristic form or return to the user's native form.
As part of a Fascination the maximum duration of the transformation (assuming it isn't cut short
earlier by fulfilling some criteria built into the Splendor) is one day for a 1-2 dot Splendor, one
week for a 3-dot Splendor, one month for a 4-dot Splendor, and one year for a 5-dot Splendor.

Great Sorcerous working, anchored to Reality by the indestructible might of Molly Carpenter's exaltation, the Paladin's Oath takes a form of a prayer and an oath. It was first depicted in an undying classical horror movie "Blood Stopping Oath", and has, since then been spread through the world by word of mouth. When a person afflicted with a supernatural malady, such as a half-red vampire, or a young ghoul utters the words on the Oath, even if they do so without serious expectation of fullfilment, Creation hears. From this point on, they fall under the aegis of the Radiant Pearl of Sorcery Pure and Impure, and few indeed are those that can dare dream to breach it. As long as they remain faithful in fullfilling its precepts, their curse is leashed and turned to their own, and their ladies' benefit. They suffer from insatiable hunger or unnatural, uncontrollable urges no longer, and instead gain the full benefits of their conditions, powered fully through their commitment. This pact is sealed in ancient script, written across their own heart, unseen by anyone but their mistress or a skilled enough surgeon.

[5 dot upgrade] And in the fullness of time , as they progress upon their path, the benediction of the Radiant Pearl will warp their curse, molding it in her image. [/5 dot upgrade]
The bakemono [5 dot upgrade] or mortal [/5 dot upgrade] makes an oath and a ritual offering (enough to qualify them for Mercy in Servitude) to the Radiant Pearl of Sorcery Pure and Impure. They can be made aware of the contents of the oath either by watching the movie it is depicted in, by word of mouth, or through any other means. This provides them the following benefits:
1) Benefits of Mercy in Servitude, as long as they keep to their oath
2) Instinctive awareness of attempting to break the oath (I am using Dreaming a New Dream for this)
3) Regaining full "energy pool" of whatever they need to feed their supernatural abilities by actively fulfilling their oath (Essence-Stoking Spirit)
4) Counting as being within hearing range of the Radiant Pearl (Molly Carpenter) for the purposes of Prayer Eating disciplines and Verdant Emptiness Empowerment no matter where they actually are
[5 dot upgrade] 5) Ability to buy Brass Court abilities and remove their own supernatural template abilities with XP slowly transforming them into a Brass Court member. Has to be done willingly, with their own XP [/5 dot upgrade]

If they break their oath, the benefits are null and void, and cannot be reobtained for a year and a day, and without Radiant Pearl's express agreement. Any abilities bought via this Splendor are sealed, though the curses removed are not reapplied.

You... might want to talk to some angels before you try to do something this wide ranging. Salina is would give you a pat on the back for that one.

4 dot version doesn't seem to be that gamechanging / grand? It builds on what is already there:
1) It can only target bakemono, so it doesn't grant any new magical abilities
2) It allows us to hear prayers regardless of distance, but it piggybacks on Mercy in Servitude to do so, only targeting those under its effects. And MiS has no range or number of servants limitations
3) It generates energy for our servants. Now, yes, this is a big one. But it only does so for active fulfillment of their oaths. It essentially recreates the effects of Prayer Eating, only instead of the Essence flowing to the Exalt, it goes to those praying themselves. I can agree and see us needing to buy up to Prayer Eating in order to fit that feature in.

it's very good for it's target demographic, but it's not game changing globally. Would break Red Court and a number of ghoul families, though. I'm not sure we would need to involve angels in this.

Now, 5 dot version, yeah, we'll want to talk to angels first. Because it would, in essence, establish a new "vampire" court. With memetic propagation mechanism. I can see how it would upset a lot, and I mean a lot of people.

Also, politics aside, are those mechanically possible?

You are effectively granting a loophole to several ongoing curses on a scale beyond some of your charms, which are all infernal grade charms mind. That is pretty grand.

True. What if I remove the Essence-Stocking Spirit? So the first / basic version of the Oath only grants instinctive awareness of said oath, and allows us to hear prayers regardless of distance? We can put that into the movie, and go up from there in the sequels, after we do some politics. Also, there's a perfect canon Exalted quote for the ritual text of the oath:
Once, there was a maiden...
... who fled a shadow, in the company of a friend.
They travelled through strange places, and among strange people.
"How can you trust me," he asked, "with such horror behind you?"
"Love endures," she said.

Not really? MiS-coding would have three main target categories: unwillingly turned half-reds, normal mundane people targeted for vampirization by rhampires, and (as a bonus) teenage ghouls having super puberty from hell. Maybe some other human-originating people too (I think it might benefit people possessed by ghosts?). Ie people who are unlikely to be fully aware of the supernatural.

Also the Jade Court and their dhamphyr children get lots of benefits from MiS.

Arc 15 Interlude 6: Not Quite Wonderland New
Not Quite Wonderland

11th of March 2007 A.D.

Alicia Carpenter was a very clever girl, her family said so and unlike some people's families, she was pretty sure hers were being honest, but even so compared to an honest-to-Asimov AI like Wraith she still felt like a Neanderthal sometimes which was to say kind of slow and with the sneaking suspicion that she was being used as an anthropology subject. Worth it though, how many regular l people had access to the back end of the magical internet? Well OK, magical internet may be overstating things a bit for what was effectively a series of internet forums and chat rooms moderated by a bunch of college kids over at the university of Chicago, but it was going to be big, she was sure of it. Before that when she thought about magic Alicia had figured it was all chanting and incense and all that jazz, maybe a little like Church only not as polite to the stuff you called on since it wasn't God, but it wasn't really the Devil either, it just annoyed Mom a lot. Then her sister fell head first into the whole magic thing during an incident she still had to piece together and now it seemed like every other month she was having Serious Talks with Mom and Dad.

It was one thing to have the odd mysterious disappearance, Alicia thought, but when Molly had started doing mysterious appearances to the point where she had a large but indeterminate array of Mollies... things were getting a wee bit weird which was when she and Wraith started digging. The thing about Wraith was he was a big boss spirit, kinda since he had been called up by Molly personally and Leech herself was the sister of 'the Queen', which wasn't like Queen Elizabeth over in England, more like Cleopatra Queen of Egypt so it wasn't that hard to go snooping and figure out what her sister had been doing over the past two months, at least the broad strokes.

What she found out shook the girl enough that she slammed the laptop and started praying. Vampires and ghouls and faeries and things that made those look human, things as alien to this reality as the heart of a black hole reaching out into the dreams and twisting people into monsters, offering dark blessings to some of those other monsters. The reason there was even a magical internet was that some of the least-bad-vampires-turned-really-bad had been hunting those people in some kind of weird generational plan to breed out the magic.

It could perhaps be said that was about the point where Alicia put aside vague hopes of maybe learning magic herself, Mom had let Daniel to it and he was Daniel, but that didn't mean she wasn't still interested in that other world. In fact it looked like they were going to need a lot of tech support going forward. If I'm going to help change the world this is probably even bigger than Google.

Wait what was that? Molly wanted to make a TV series with bat monster vampires with the studio she inherited off the serial-killer-vampire? She probably shouldn't be on this channel, but she was only twelve and a little sister, this was too good a point to moment to pass up.

Leech1995: Need some VFX help? I'm not good enough to do it directly yet, but I can consult?

What do you answer?

[] Refuse, dear God no, she has school

[] Accept. Also how the hell is she on this channel?

[] Write in

OOC: So here's a riddle for you, what does one do when the Creator's little sister (or as the case may be her SUTRA assistent) starts asking for access to sensitive data? Do you A) refuse on the grounds that she is 12 or B) let her in beause the God-Queen works in mysterious ways, also you are used to precocious youngsters because that is how reincarnation looks like when the person goes to the City of Fountains to forget large parts of ther past lives.

[x] Accept. Also how the hell is she on this channel?

It going in places/ I don't know what places. But it's going somewhere

First of all, sorry about this. I had to get this out of my head, after the idea came to me, inspired by the Oath mechanics.
The Splendor takes the form of something that is evocative of the fantastic. It might be a child's
toy, a brightly-decorated banner, a monster or carnival mask, or a treasure chest. It might be a
kaleidoscope, or a bundle of bright balloons. This Element defines the Splendor's physical form
and gives it a character, and that character is aligned with the power of the Dreaming. Other
Elements may draw upon this fact.
The Splendor stands out as a powerful work of magic when seen with chimerical eyes or mystic
scrutiny, but it seems nigh-impossible to credit it with any specific significance if observed with
purely mundane senses. Even when presented with compelling evidence that there's something
weird about the object, anyone who hasn't made a magical survey of the Splendor must make a
Willpower roll against difficulty (4 + Splendor's rating) to accept such a conclusion.
As an Adornment, it raises the difficulty to affect the user with hostile works of Glamour by one.
As the basis for a Fascination, it may have one minor impossible feature such as floating in
defiance of gravity, reflecting people's true selves when looked into, or aging backwards in time.
This Splendor manifests the resources of a Background, chosen at the time of the Splendor's
creation. The Background is either Arsenal or Library (see M20, p. 318).
As an Adornment, the character may spend a turn and a point of Willpower to simply manifest
whatever equipment or research materials they desire from their Arsenal or Library. They have
an effective rating in the Background equal to the Splendor's rating while wearing it.
As a Fascination, Panoply of Wonders requires that the Splendor also have a location-type Form
Element such as Form of the Hearth. The chosen Background has a dot rating equal to the
Splendor's rating, and manifests throughout the affected area.
The Splendor is shrouded in a psychic ward that makes it unthinkable to even consider harming
it in any way. Anyone attempting to do so must succeed at a Willpower roll against difficulty (4
+ Splendor's rating) and then spend a Willpower point on each turn in which they attempt to do
harm to the Splendor.
One of the Splendor's snares or benefits is particularly wicked or potent. Modify one roll
associated with the Splendor by increasing or decreasing its difficulty by two, or modify one
value associated with activating or resisting its effects (such as the number of points of
Willpower that must be spent to shake off a Beautiful Lie) by two.
The Splendor is loathe to relinquish its hold on those it claims. Select one Element of the
Splendor whose effects last for a limited time. That Element's maximum duration is increased by
one category (from one scene to one day, one day to one week, etc). If the duration is already
"one year," the Element can be rendered permanent.
First of all, I am sorry. I know this is literal trash, and we should be better. But I cannot get it out of my head after designing the Oath.

From the minds that brought you Blood Cursed Oath! The most expansive, complex and engaging online RPG ever - NeverNever Online!

Create your own stories by engaging with our infinitely adaptive Storyteller system, rewarding both combat and role playing!

Planned expansion packs include:
Changeling: the Legacy. Awaken the inheritance sleeping in your blood, and explore both the power, and obligations it carries.
Thousand Hells: The Hopeful Revolution. Swim up from the bottomless depths of the Hell of Burning Oil, or dodge the the cybernetic patrols of the lord of Wicked City. Nurture the seed of Hope so you can truly escape the hells.
Moonlit Sanctuary: We Come in Peace. Find alien allies against the darkness and explore the unforgivingly harsh Wastes of the alien Sanctuary in order to earn favor, and blessings of the Radiant Pearl herself.

And upon reaching max level, awaken and do it all in the real world, armed with your knowledge and powers!
The splendor takes form of an online videogame "NeverNever online", which uses Storyteller RPG system. The players take on the role of a human who was "awakened" to the supernatural world, which closely resembles that of Dresden Files. They progress through the game, slowly raising their essence level. The game is run by cybernetic spirits who procedurally generate quests, interact with players via NPCs, etc, all guided to instill in the players certain understandings of how the supernatural works, what to avoid doing, etc. Once the player passes Essence 3, the limit for mortals, which involves a long series of personalized quests, and should take roughly 2 thousand hours in the game (or ~ 2 years of gameplay) and ascend to divinity, the Transformation part of the splendor takes place.

The player is transformed into their ascendant character as they were at chargen, complete with a character sheet they can call upon, to track their progress and allocate XPю
At chargen you choose 3 psychic phenomena, which you get at 1 dot as innate powers.
You can spend XP on merits, subject to GM's approval, but not backgrounds.
So, yeah. I made the LitRPG system. Sorry about that.

[X] Talk to mom and dad. Be supportive of Leech's desire to help, but don't push. It could be a valuable experience, useful in mundane world.

Charity is Leech's mom. So, talk to mom. And dad. Make use of that Mentor 5.

I now really want to see what we can do using Splendors to hack the parts of the Wan Xian/Kuei's ascension trials that are part of Molly's soul.

On the subject of the vote - I am in favor of Leech participating. It's actual practical and useful work experience. Not combat. Not magic per se. Not murderhoboing adventuring. Doing VFX is an actual respectable high tech profession. And yes, Leech is likely going to be using Sanctuary tech, but that's just getting ahead of the curve. The only controversy here is the genre of the movie, which isn't all that appropriate for her. We need to tell mom, definitely, but I am supportive.

It should be noted Leech currently knows what an Outsider is and has some insight into the kind of horrifying murder cults they set up. It was bad enough she started praying. On the other hand she is a Carpenter so her next reaction was to open the laptop again and keep reading
