Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I should have been clearer, I just meant going to get one that could, on the assumption that if we had time to get Carlos we also had time for that. We never really referred to spirits as subsouls before, just the clones, so it didn't occur to me that there was another way to read it.

Should have actually named Sophia.

Sorry. I should have asked what kind of subsoul, technically all Sanctuary spirits are, they are just not Second Circle subsouls. I just saw the solution and went for it. I'll be more careful about that in the future.

Do you want me to do a re-write? It feels a bit jarring, but I don't want you guys to feel like you messed up because of a mix up with the vote.

How did everyone else read it?

Doesn't seem reasonable to basically get a free redo if I meant what I wrote one way and everyone else read it the other when voting for it.

I mean, I didn't vote here but I do know we have never used the term subsoul to refer to anything else than our clones in this thread when it comes to Molly's. I doubt anyone read it differently than how Bronze intended it.

I didn't vote for your plan, but I assumed it was talking about one of the Molly clones.

EDIT: That said, I'm fine with keeping things as they are and just dealing with it.

OK looks like most people thought you were asking Sophia to use her Gifts which would have worked better, for the sake of fairness I will be using the same storm calling roll and only rolling extra dice.

Well at least it gives us the opportunity to just gently refuse and make another plan. Thanks for the edit!
We probably could have talked them down. TLF should have activated. Arguably CCC too, but definitely TLF and BSM. 6 successes would have been doable.

Anyway,

Not sure what else to offer.

Edits done, an overall much better result for you guys, the spirits are trying to bargain instead of fighting from the get go, but you did still fail the roll so complications remain.
Glad I went back and reread that chapter. That wasn't just a different result, but almost a complete rewrite. Thanks, DP.

--[X] We have no issue with granting them 400 square miles of the surrounding lands, but we cannot secure such a large parcel to their requested standards within a short timeframe. Ask that they agree to a much smaller area initially, but which gradually expands as our resources allow for it.

Molly <broadcasting worldwide via hacked communication satellites>: "Greeting, Earthlings, I am Molly, Queen of the Planet of Sanctuary. On behalf of my people, I welcome you to the greater multiverse."

Might be easier and more palatable to play it all off as aliens and extradimensional invaders rather than supernatural and mythological shit creeping out of the shadows they've been tucked away in for centuries or millennium.

Rhampires? Parasitic aliens from Planet X. They've come for your blood!

Whampires? Spiritual parasites from Planet Y. They've come for your women! Or men! Possibly both!

Blampires? We don't know where the fuck they came from, but they wear Human corpses as meatsuits and are bad news so everyone should keep killing them.

Faeries? Cousins from the "5th dimension". Long history of interaction with Earth, hence the extensive, if heavily garbled and inaccurate "Faerie" tales, and intermingled bloodlines. Possible angle for a new business; DNA testing for Fey gene markers?

Five Fold Court of Fate? Benevolent explorers here to uplift their fellow sentients with the secrets of the universe, medicines to cure what ails you and fantastical technology seemingly plucked from science fiction. We come in peace!

And so on.

The reason for the sudden rise of invaders and visitors? Might as well blame the Americans, and everyone else who detonated nuclear weapons in the past 60 years. They "thinned the walls between dimensions" and made "<insert Star Trek-style techno babble> noise" which attracted them. What was once a relative handful of criminals and raiders, explorers and refugees who wandered to Earth throughout history is now a flood, and they cannot be hidden or ignored any longer. Think of the children!

It's all BS, of course, and plenty of people would know that from the outset or disbelieve for one reason or another, but the vast, overwhelming majority? They would eat this crap up and ask for more. A century of media in every possible format has been prepping modern civilization for contact with extraterrestrial life, for good or ill, whereas centuries of concerted effort have been invested in convincing everyone that the supernatural is merely superstitious nonsense.

The lie doesn't need to last forever, or even a decade, but just a few years would be enough to reach a new normal.
That might actually work. Or something like it. We should seriously consider it.

400 square miles is only, what, 20 miles by 20 miles? That's not too big a place to patrol and keep safe from pollution.

Sure it'll be difficult asking a sovereign country to give up clay, but maybe we could try and get then to make it a natural preserve or something? Just a fig leaf of decency so it doesn't look like we're intending to conquer the place (are we intending that???)

They want something permanent in exchange for temporary assistance?

Seems more equitable to trade permanent help for permanent help. We keep the land clean of human pollution and they keep it free of unauthorized supernatural predators.

-[X] Stunt: "Less is More" you say, the weight of truth in your voice no lesser than Mab's own when she pronounces the coldness of Winter.
--[X] "The larger the territory I claim, the more attention it attracts of men who claim to own it, the less security I can guarantee, and the easier it is for Red leeches to devour us all for daring to exist under the sun that they are hated by. Let us get to know each other over the course of days to come, and we shall come to new and more fruitful agreements without the hastings of mortals"
---[X] "And as proof of my intentions, let me offer this - bring me the bones of a species gone, and I shall endevour to see them returned to the realm of Earth"

@DragonParadox would this be OK? I am using SCCP for one sentence and one sentence only, and afterwards talk and expect to be talked to in mortal language. the charm text says "allows to speak... for a scene", so it doesn't force us to speak in Primordial.

For my opinion on the masquerade.

Breaking the masquerade is a complete no go, so long as any mortal with internet could look up how to summon outsiders, fey, and all sorts of other dark powers. The walls of reality are tissue paper thin. We an handle closing 1-2 maybe even 3 incursions at a time, but if the outsiders went public they could be attacking from a hundred different places at once.

Thing is Molly does have the potential to shore up reality, and fortify it properly, that why the outsiders are trying to break the masquerade, so they swarm in a thousand agents, before Molly block their easy entrance. Best way to kill an exalted is to send an army of weak foes, then hit them with more powerful stuff Not to mention the countless people that will get screwed up from fey and other creatures out their if their existence was common knowledge.

How would they gain information on summoning outsiders? And how does existence of masquerade prevent such information from being put on the internet?
Lovecraft's work is very explicitly called out as a functioning methodology for understanding the old gods and they are in some way aligned with The Outsiders. Nemesis very specifically in this Quest had essentially an antinatalism campaign going. People knowing magic is real and agents of Outsiders putting functional rituals online means people attempt to summon Outsiders.

There being functioning rituals online at the moment if someone sees thet just say oh that's an interesting kind of fucked up thing on the internet. As people don't know magic is real yet.

The other sides to summoning are a complete non-issue as far as reality security goes the fey can just exist in the real world if anyone had any magical information it could just find them. Same goes for demon summoning because they don't want to destroy reality though there would be way more of it after people know magic is real.
