Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Charity doesn't want to do murderhobo things. Her ambitions start and end with taking care of her family.
Charity makes Michael's armor, likely using True Faith bonuses. And wields a warhammer. If she exalts, she'll pretty much be Molly 2.0 - craft+melee combat. MInus sorcery and possibly minus socials.
.... Are we sure Charity aint an Exalt?
At this point of her life, I'm not sure she's a good fit for any of those. Though teenager!Charity exalting as a lunar and taking Syriothrax's heartblood at the moment of her exaltation could have been a fun story. Hell, lore for this quest almost works for this. You just have the lunar shard in Syriothrax's hoard instead of the underwater dragon's belly, and teen!Charity fits a lunar shard to a tee.

Okay.. I don't see the point in speculating on what it'd be used for if she doesn't have the mentality to make the most of it.

White Court eats people. They are supernatural predators and known as such. We have white court minions, go to Lara's parties, and order her brother around. To a person on the supernatural street, we are allies. That we aren't actually providing her with weapons is inconsequential, as you say. To a common outside observer on the street, we are an ally of White Court, or at least someone they negotiate with. TO an even less informed observer, we are a supernatural monster in charge of supernatural monsters - someone to command ghouls, vampires of various kinds, including those never seen before
The common person on the street doesn't know that much, and the people who do have that information also have a better idea of the score. It helps that we had Ordo connections first, and that the Jade Dogs are a mixed background type of organization.

For our level of association with Lara to matter in the same way we'd need to be actively expanding their interests; sending demon armies to fight their battles or similar. Instead we attended their party openly and repeatedly announcing that we were there to kill whamps for touching mortals under our protection.

I'd also like to emphasize again that moral equivalency is so completely irrelevant in this context that mentioning it is a waste of page space. Nobody is going to go "well this problem that is actively happening is only about as evil as we suspected she had the potential to be, so it's fine". By that argument we could act like the Yama King Molly is mistaken for and similarly face no consequences.

A newly manifested problem is something that people have to deal with and address rather than a potential fear.

On the political end the fact that it is mundane crime is noteworthy as well. It doesn't matter that it isn't as bad as the other stuff, it's the part that's known to many parties who will not be read in on the rest of it. You're tying the masquerade into a noose and making our mortal affiliates wear it.

This is pretty much how all the governments started. We are just doing the natural work of making this banding stationary, basically.

It worked throughout pretty much whole history.
Are you claiming that the government is untrustworthy, so we should make a shadow government out of violent criminals solely answerable to Molly - to the degree that she has time to monitor them - instead? Further, that this won't even in the best case scenario set up a serious conflict with the existing system that our enemies could trivially exploit?

The most blindingly obvious consequence of this course of action is negative factions like the current leaders of Daedalus gaining more power and doing the things you deride the Feds as being untrustworthy for.

You aren't building a defense system, you're building a sociopolitical pipe bomb.

So, somewhat related to the current situation - I can see Charity's parents thinking Michael is not fit for Charity (yes, despite Charity being an adult, and having seven kids with him). Who do you think will get to them first in case they try something? Like, there are so many options.

What common person on what common street? Serious question. Define the population you are talking about. Are they supernaturally aware? Are they human or a changeling or a whampire spawn? Are they a wizard-grade talent or a path sorcerer? What is your definition of "common person on the street"? Because Ordo members absolutely know what whampires are and know that they are prey to said whampires.

I am claiming that parts of the government don't exist, cannot exist under the current governmental framework in at least certain parts, and those roles can be filled by people like Marcone, and, in the post-masquerade world, those parts can and should be united.

OOC: Given that Tiffany had done her own investigating and spent considerably more time on it there was no reason to do the Awakened Eye of the Dragon trick for now. What she already had is the maximum you coul get through a streetwise roll.
Huh... Ok. A bit of a shame, since that's a month-long bonus, and would have been a good opportunity to test out and show off our new spell, but this works.

[] Appeal to his loyalty to his own people, no matter how good he is as long as he's just another criminal they are going to be exposed to danger, with your help he could become so much more and so coould they

[] Appeal to his pride, contrast his own efforts to make Chicago safer from supernatural threats to Daedalus' bungling, point out that he can do far more good for the city when he'd not organizing drug deals on the side

[] Get access to his army file to try and see just what the origin of his distrust in the government is
-[] Officially, one more thing to ask of the Library
-[] Unofficially, steal it
So, I'll assume for now that we don't have any more foci for Marcone (he's not magical at all at this point, so he doesn't generate foci a lot). @DragonParadox would it be possible for Murphy to access Marcone's organized crime casefile (I assume it exists) without arousing suspicion?

In any case, for now, for the moment, I'll vote for

[X] Appeal to his loyalty to his own people, no matter how good he is as long as he's just another criminal they are going to be exposed to danger, with your help he could become so much more and so coould they

We don't want him in confrontation with the government.

I assume that the pride argument is easier.

If we're going to encourage some part of him, then this is the part to do so. Building off of his sense of loyalty to his people would likely be better for him to build off of going forward than his pride. Also, if we're interacting with him going forward than his loyalty is more something that we can cooperate with him on realizing than his pride is. Helping out is something we are willing to go out of our way for, but we're not going to minimize how much we accomplish or help other groups accomplish for the sake of his pride.

Criminals as much as honest people have reasons for doing things and while you don't believe there are good reasons to do the sorts of things the 'Baron of Chicago' has done, that doesn't mean you can't use the knowledge, can't change his mind.
Baron of Chicago, he hasn't officially achieved that yet, right? I know that we disrupted how he would have gotten it in canon. He didn't manage something offscreen, right? He's still just a guy with a goal?

While I think appealing to his loyalty to his own people is the best of the currently available options, I think it's going to need to be paired with some practicality.

How would Marcone's reformed organization earn its income? Are we giving him a budget, or some independent source of money? Cause if he can't continue to provide for his subordinates, then any appeal to their best interests is worthless.

As a legacy Mafia there are probably tens of in family businesses(I.e family businesses, retired membership (To injured/old and loyal), Fronts) that can launder pretty much any resource we give him as payment.

When it comes down to it we can literally just pay him in gold and he can through his connections get that turned into cash and then through his businesses get that turned into legitimate taxable income.

Replace gold with any number of things/resources and then as yog has essentially made this turn the turn we are getting our businesses off the ground when we do we can literally pay him as a subcontractor at that point as well because the things yog has put into motion are insanely lucrative.

Getting him to make the turn is the most important part we can literally do a large variety of things to actually pay him probably more than he was getting from the drug trade all things considered.

Let's think. As @Degorium said, he should have a ton of semi-legitimate businesses that can be fallen back on, and which we could help.

We could, in principle, institute a bounty system for warlocks, and monsters. Something along the lines of "X cash for a minor talent identified, 3X cash for a changeling who hasn't made a choice identified, 6X cash for a ghoul, 10X cash for a lawbreaker found and brought in dead, 20X cash for bringing them in alive, 100X cash for a rhampire brought in" (numbers are completely made up, this will need to be workshopped by both players and in-story by Molly based on rolls to understand dangers and economics).

Longer term, it's easy to just magic him and his people money.
Lucky Money (3 pt. Root Element)
The Splendor causes fortune to find its target. Upon summoning the Splendor, roll Wits +
Finance against difficulty 6. Each success grants the target one dot of Resources, up to a maximum rating of (Splendor's rating). The money comes to her thanks to a variety of unrelated
events.
If the Splendor is an Adornment, it grants these Resources to its user, and they become suddenly
unavailable for various reasons as soon as the Splendor is removed.
If the Splendor is a Fascination, these dots last for one day for a 1-2 dot Splendor, one week for a
3-dot Splendor, one month for a 4-dot Splendor, and one year for a 5-dot Splendor.

a 3 dot splendor that grants a 2-3 dot Resources for a month after use, where the use condition for using it is to have worked for protection of the community for the last month is easy. Resources background is as follows:

• Sufficient. You can maintain a typical
residence in the style of the working
class with stability, even if spending
sprees come seldom.
•• Moderate. You can display yourself
as a member in good standing of the
middle class, with the occasional gift
and indulgence seemly for a person
of even higher station. You can
maintain a servant or hire specific
help as necessary. A fraction of your
resources are available in cash,
readily portable property (like jewelry
or furniture), and other valuables
(such as a car or modest home) that
let you maintain a standard of living
at the one-dot level wherever you
happen to be, for up to six months.
••• Comfortable. You are a prominent
and established member of your
community, with land and an owned
dwelling, and you have a reputation
that lets you draw on credit at very
generous terms. You likely have more
tied up in equity and property than
you do in ready cash. You can
maintain a one-dot quality of
existence wherever you are without
difficulty, for as long as you choose.
•••• Wealthy. You rarely touch cash, as
most of your assets exist in tangible
forms that are themselves more
valuable and stable than paper
money. You hold more wealth than
many of your local peers (if they can
be called such a thing). When
earning your Resources doesn't
enjoy your usual degree of attention,
you can maintain a three-dot
existence for up to a year, and a two-
dot existence indefinitely.
••••• Extremely Wealthy. You are the
model to which others strive to
achieve, at least in the popular mind.
Television shows, magazine spreads,
and gossip websites speculate about
your clothing, the appointments of
your numerous homes, and the luxury
of your modes of transportation. You
have vast and widely distributed
assets, perhaps tied to the fates of
nations, each with huge staffs and
connections to every level of
society through a region. You
travel with a minimum of three-dot
comforts, more with a little effort.
Corporations and governments
sometimes come to you to buy into
stocks or bond programs.
I have to run, but I'll make a build today. There is something poetic about bending Fate to make sure that good work is rewarded.

Yeah, if we're trying to talk him around into this major a change, then an empathy excellency is definitely called for.

A lot of things that are quick and dirty roads to money, like the drug trade, are kind of a sucker's game. Slash and burn agriculture. Lasting power is in what goes past protection rackets and into investments, corporations and governments being stained in blood and shit up to their armpits but building something in the meantime. He has enough money and influence that he can buy into something big from the ground floor.

He wants money? We have a gateway to a place other and alien and we have plans to trickle things through. A vial of heroin has value due to artificial scarcity but anything we have has no other source at all. I have to wonder what is on our list that we wouldn't mind getting out but which we would want distributed under the table rather than over.

Counting morality? Medicine. We almost certainly have medicine in the Courts that doesn't exist on Earth. FDA approval takes a lot of time, the infrastructure and logistics for medicine distribution should resemble that for drug distribution, and since we know for a fact the medicine works, there's no moral quandary. It seems like the most logical way to coopt drug trade.

Following that, and depending on how complex things are, cybernetics might be possible too, in some ways at least. During our introduction instant implant patches for our paralyzed friends were a possibility, so field implantation is likely possible. Go full cyberpunk with Ripperdocs basically.

If that's too much Court exposure in terms of technology, there's always value in exotics. Exotic food, exotic plants, exotic clothes, exotic pets.

We know that the medicine works for aliens. Are the humans of the Five Courts biologically the same as those on earth?
At least some of them are, as I understand it. They are of different ethnicities, obviously, and a number of them has non-human ancestry, but humans were intended to exist in Fivefold Courts. If we want to be ultra-safe, we can do medical testing, up to and including using Crown questions and Tiffany to monitor what the medicines do to a person's body, in the Courts. This should be significantly faster than getting FDA approval.
