Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

We know the white god shut down all the other afterlives which is why we'd need to ask for special permission in the first place.

As to why; when dealing with safety critical system you can't just assume things will go well if you don't spend time and money making them do so. I don't think it's a reasonable assumption that they'll go back, but more than that I don't think it's reasonable to assume anything with lethal consequences will end well by default in any context.
... That's wrong canonically. Like, Murphy went to Valhalla in canon. And in this quest Thousand Hells get regular new denizens.

We don't actually know that, and there's really nothing in Dresden Files to support that claim. The gods aren't actually completely disallowed on earth. They just aren't allowed to be there and be immortal. Odin himself is still gathering people to his afterlife. Hades might still be gathering people in to his afterlifes. We just don't know. We do know people are still passively ending up in the 1000 and regular hells though.

Not to mention the white God is essentially in charge of 2 of the largest afterlife destination. The celestial bureaucracy and the Silver City. While possibly operating the largest reincarnation engine as Brahma.

Never mind that it'd be really hypocritical. Given the near myopic Focus on free will they have to not let people choose their own afterlifes.

Actually the gods aren't even disallowed access to earth just making change if they're not risking themselves.

We are also told that belief and fame gives access to reality in some capacity.

I'm pretty sure they are also still can grant boons and blessings. They just can't do it with magical strings attached - though they are welcome to go down and do it themselves if they are again willing to risk it.

I addressed that though. If you want to get into an off brand afterlife you've got to get in a God's face about it. The Hades doesn't get new residents no matter how hard you pray to him. You've got to make your own way to his realm. All of Odin's modern chosen have be personally brought to his realm at some unnamed cost to the guy himself.

In the quest Yama Kings have to jump through hoops and take people who either make deals or die in very specific ways at very specific places.

There is no general allowance for people to go to the lands of their gods anymore just as the gods aren't allowed to personally intercede in the mortal world as they used to. Keeping a hand in requires significant new limits imposed by the white god.

We know the white god has other names, but not which big ones are the same guy. Remember that real world beliefs are only as relevant as they were known by and engaging to Butcher. Which is why Anansi the Spider is locked up in Mab's trophy garden for annoying her. Instead of that going as well as Elmer Fudd vs Bugs Bunny with realistic gore enabled.

Call him a hypocrite if you want, but it shouldn't be surprising that someone who appointed himself the final judge of everybody and nerfed everyone else out of the industry is enforcing his policies on people.

You have nothing substantiating that claim. There's also fact that's not what shutdown means. You said the white gods shut down the other afterlives but they are still functioning and people can still make their way to them, which means they are still active.

We've seen a grand total of two Gods that Historically have operated afterlives in Dresden files and both of them still have functioning afterlives with one of them still getting active participants in the form of Einjhar and valkyries. Which seems to be the exact opposite of what you said. If all you have to do to go to your god's place of rest is to turn away an angel and walk there. Then that place is still open for business. It just means it's not convenient to go there anymore.

No idea I don't think we've seen them do so but maybe they can. Also unsure how easily they can have scions.

As with outsiders they can't come into reality at all without invitation. While here their powers are crippled and they just can't act in the same capacity anymore. The Greek gods couldn't stop the conversion of their people despite their fame after the fact because they cannot use their powers that way anymore.

When Nicodemus sacrificed he daughter she was the first new soul in Hades since they got sidelined, old holdouts and neo-pagans weren't getting in.

There is a power level hierarchy here and the gods of earth were not peer powers to the entity behind the white god.

At one point the afterlives of the gods accepted worshippers under various large scale schemes. Now they cannot because the white god changed the rules. Personal intervention at the moment of death in the mortal world, dying in their domains, or nothing.

Everything we see pretty clearly shows that you don't get to say no to the white God's soul collectors. The white god puts you on a train and you go where he tells you.

I wouldn't call a few holdout loopholes staying in operation by any stretch of the term. It's the difference between going to KFC and showing up for dinner at Colonel Sanders house.

the whole point of the changes the white god made was to shut down every other operation on an institutional level and make the gods choose between leaving or not really getting to stay divine in the same way they used to be.

We see the opposite of that quite frequently every single ghost. That is a true spirit is an example of that. Never mind murphy, being able to Go to valhalla.

We know that's not true in Skin Game. He's still getting an influx of souls. A lot of them are from people who try to break into his vault admittedly, but he is still getting souls coming to his afterlife. In skin game, they say he's getting less than the amount he had before, but still an influx of souls. Which can only be neo pagans and holdouts.

A vast majority of ghosts aren't actually souls in the Dresden Files. You get sent directly to the afterlife. Murphy got direct special attention under the new rules. Hades and Odin didn't need to do this shit to collect mortals back in the day.

Based on what? The white god shut the other gods down. That was the entire point of what he did. Their faiths are dead because he evicted their pantheons from reality unless they'd agree to live as something other than classical divinities.

The only deviation we ever see is people personally giving their souls over to entities capable of meeting them in reality or jumping out of reality to stand in their domains.

This is also why the Yama Kings have to desecrate land on earth instead of just having anyone who worships religions that acknowledge their existence fall into their laps.

Butcher was not subtle about this; he has a preference and set up a rationale for why everyone else used to exist but has long since been removed and replaced by it.

None of this is true, however? Like, your argument is that Hades doesn't get people. Faith in Greek pantheon is very low, and faith that involves genuine involvement of said greek gods is even less. I am fairly sure (though not certain) that we don't have a statemnent directly saying "no one goes to alternative afterlives". Our people are deeply religious and have personal connection to us. If Murphy gets to go to Odin, then our people get to go to us.

@DragonParadox Errors in red.
Are you still yourself, he thought looking down at the young warden trapped in stone or is it already eating at your insides.
Forgot this one from last time. Should be a question mark.

Hall Pass
The others' footsteps soon vanish down a side tunnel while you, Carlos, Tiffany escort McCoy with a single War Weaver bringing up the rear,
Should have an "and" before Tiffany.

"We need to get to the Warden Baracks,

Echoes in the Dark
though from the way he's holding it it's clear he means to club them over the head with the pommel more than skewer them
Need period at the end.

you elaborate, though not going to far as to explain you 'ate' them.
I believe this was intended to be "so".

Thankfully the Warden Baracks isn't taken over, though it is almost empty since Warden Captain Luccio had send a good portion of those on duty into the city right before the attack.
These tunnels all connect right? You could send out a general message in the clear to draw back to the Warden Baraks and confirming there are traitors using glamors.

Of Stone and Bone
You run though the names in on your list,
This should say 2 essence. 10 remaining is correct you just hadn't changed the number from 3 to 2.

I'm not going to ask you how you know all those names misy
that that lead into a sort of domed antechamber like a cross between a classical temple and a really snazzy hank only instead of tellers the sides are manned by young wizards, too young, and the statues, wrought in the elegant shape of temple dogs built to titanic scale are alive and crowling at you
Also missing a comma after "titanic scale".

More than a head shorter than you and leading on her staff for more than affection, dresses in beautifully styled silk robes Ancient Mai, for who else could it be, looks up at the arriving company through rheumy eyes.
she motions for all of you to follow, though her gaze does linger for on Thunder's Silent Arrow for a moment as she does so.
It does not show itself openly, only to the Sight and it it dreadful beyond what the eyes of the children can bear.
but if all they wanted to to was show the horror of their being to ones who could not endure it...
Carlos whispers from beside yo, not from any fear that you might be overheard by enemies, but because he does not want Mai to hear.
Ahead of you in the Warden Baracks had been a diabolist, a desperate one at that, past tense because they had tried to summon something powerful and in succeeding too well become the sacrifice to their own final spell.
Did did guess? Or is this just a particularly greedy demon, let loose from Hell's chains by a foolish summoner, trying to strike the best bargain it can.
Also should be a question mark at the end.

A Working in Five Points
"You dare!" it roars with all the affront of a lord, a would-be-master betrayed
Missing period at the end.

He needs another and the demon's claw is already descending to ruin the first circle.

It never gets here, instead it stops mid air as though the air had suddenly become a shackle and it's only then, finally taking your eyes off the thing that you realize what McCoy had done:
Should be "there".

Wanna try for less than nothing."
Question mark.

He's bluffing, you realize, not about being willing to die in the line of duty, but about the notion that he can hold if he dies. No wizard knows until the last how long their will will last in the face of death.
Missing "it" in between hold and if.

"Until the last" what?

Then and there, knowing you might not be fast enough to kill it before the backlash from the broken binding can kill fear freezes to spite in the depths of your soul, a curse upon the demon's eyes, its will and its courage snuffed out in its own shadow.
Seems like there should be a comma after "kill".

Planting the Staff
Ancient May says as another tremor hits, hard enough to unbalance a few of the younger wizards.
How likely is that."

"Before today I would have said imposibile," Ancient May says.
The first period should be a question mark.

A poor aproximation of a vampire attack,

Breath of the Unquiet
When the False Dragon had tries to open tear the city asunder by the power of his broken stewardship,
About thirty feet in front of them the floor fell away into a jagged pit whose far edge was a of ancient stone and black bazaltic foundations.
Basaltic*

"Warden Morgan, are any wizards burried in the Halls themselves?"

As with outsiders they can't come into reality at all without invitation. While here their powers are crippled and they just can't act in the same capacity anymore. What's that got to do with what I said I was just disabusing the statement they can't come to earth. Also they don't need invitation they can come and go freely and while it's not defined fame and belief just gives some level of ease of access to reality. They can't do much of any importance but they can freely come and go.

Also while butcher is catholic he's not exactly hostile to other religions I doubt he's basically said all other religions are wrong or inferior or something in Dresden files.

The afterlife is also kept deliberately vague in Dresden files.

Edit: if he's able to go down saying something in universe like a Hindu tree can be holy I don't really see why the possible afterlife stuff is any different. It also doesn't matter how it's portrayed in canon because afterlives are kept deliberately vague as a greater mystery kind of thing. How shit operates is also kept vague probably as a beyond mortals kind of deal I'd be utterly unsurprised if Uriel had other names in the stuff he does aside from the Christian ones.

Arc 14 Interlude 8: Death's Swift Wings
Death's Swift Wings

18th of February 2007 A.D.

Lydia Rhys was 'pissed off', an expression she only knew because of Daniel. Never in her life had she gotten an offer more insulting to her character, her honor and her wits. Even if the first part was true, even if Father did plan to use Kemmler like that it did not mean it was her destiny. The Fates' weave frayed long ago and she would not be their puppet, much less His.

"No honor among warlocks, is there, Wizard Peabody?" A needle of silver radiance, sharp as the point of her rage struck the revenant standing farthest back in the eye socket and into the hollowness that animated it. For a moment, for a flash of an instant the skull leered back at her, its eyes filled with silver fire, with her fire, and Lydia saw herself the way He had shown her she could have been. Then it gave a hacking scream and stumbled back, the illusion broken, though it wasn't.

Lydia loses 2 Essence -> Jade Talisman at 1/3 (Excellency and Aggregated Damage)
Revenant Four 'Breath Thief' takes 4 Damage -> Now at 3/7

In the confusion, even she barely saw Sophia move, her friend was just there, right behind the head traitor. His eyes widened with shock and his back coiled like his spine had been transmuted into a live snake, twisting his body in ways the human body had never been meant to move, and he was fast, oh so fast. No mortal man could match him. Alas for him the one he faced today was not mortal. Shifting the grip at the last moment the ornate pommel of Sophia's sword struck the wizard in the ribs at the last moment, then as he was trying to catch his breath again squarely under the jaw. That the blow didn't shatter his jaw and take the skull with it was entirely down to Sophia checking it.

Samuel Peabody, wizard, warlock, traitor, collapsed to the floor in a rapidly expanding pool of his own blood as a roar of victory filled all who heard it with new life and purpose.

Samuel Peabody takes 7 points of Bashing Damage -> Unconscious

It is not your time. To Lydia it was a soothing balm, to the sorceress who had been crushed and thrown against the wall it was a second lease on life. She rose from the ruin of her armor whole, augmented eyes glowing with faith in the aspect of her goddess near at hand.

All Allies Heal Up to 7 Damage (Howl of Healing)
Sophia loses 1 Willpower -> Fount of Power now at 3/5

"I had hoped to speak to the heir of Her not this pale facsimile," the voice was oddly composed in the midst of the battle, its diction precise, its volume conversational, more than loud enough since it seemed to be speaking in Lydia's ear, in everyone's ears.

Both the remaining walking corpses had stopped their rite, no longer violating the earth with their magic. Instead they looked with ruined faces at Sophia-Molly and spoke with a voice far off, with His voice, the one Molly called the Hollow Man.

"If you are done breaking my tools for the sake of a system even more broken..."

He never got to finish the sentence as the jade and black War Weaver hanging from the dome of the crypt unleashed a dozen magnetically guided shells into the corpse's rib cage. Bones harder than iron withstood the first blast and the second, but the third proved too much. The body broke and with it the connection. Given what she had just gone through Lydia was indeed glad of it.

Revenant Three ('Void Shadow') Takes 2 Damage -> Destroyed

As the last of the four armed warriors turned their attention upon the final corpse the thing proved the truth of Lydia's words again as it dragged in a hissing inhalation, ripping blood through the pores of one of its own living allies. It's not enough, nowhere near enough. It too is dust, leaving behind nothing but damned and desperate souls. Lydia remembered how good her friend was in convincing people and she called out the best offer she could still make: "Give up your lives and I'll escort your souls myself!"

Warlock One (Half-Hand) takes 1 Damage -> Now at 6/7
Revenant Four 'Breath Thief' Heals 1 Damage... and takes 5 -> Destroyed

One dropped his staff with a clatter, another lay his hand on the stone floor.

"Traitors!" a cold-eyed woman with a long knotted scar across her face called. Apparently somewhere along the way irony had also been killed.

Instead of hurling some spell at Lydia or one of her allies she tossed what looked like a vial of ink at the ground. It spread in the blink of an eye until the stain, the gate was large enough for a person to step though. Step she did with her last remaining ally attempting to mirror her, but the Wardens of the White Council knew well their grisly work. Wardens Morgan and Zadock closed and they cut, wards failing before thrice enchanted steel. Now there was only one.

Warlocks One and Three awaiting execution in the hopes of Lydia preserving their souls
Warlock Two Attempting to Escape into the Spirit World
Warlock Four takes 8 Damage -> Killed

"Non... non," the old Seeress said the words in the tone of governess chiding a unruly ward, but under her will the whirlpool of darkness became more like a puddle again, ankle deep.

She died in the crosshairs of two War Weavers, the body incinerated no less thoroughly than those of the dead.

"Well..." Lydia dusted herself off as the halls shook one last time, the Earth finding her balance. "That went about as well as it could have."

Before anyone else could answer Sophia got that far off look in her eyes she has when she was 'calling home', though focus swiftly changed to something more serious.

"Thorned Namshiel is down here, trawling troubled waters. The traitors let him in."

OOC: And there's the fight. Hope it worked. Personally I was a lot more happy with this than the last fight in the Wicked City, people almost died, Dresden got a brand new source of trauma, horrors man was not meant to know were faced and secrets were uncovered (even if not yet on screen...)

Well, it's good to have it made damn clear that they'd have been fucked without Molly weighing in at least.

it did not mean it was ger destiny.
Should be 'her'
No apostrophe, just 'Fates'
the skull leered back at her, its eyes filled with silver fire, with her fire[,] and Lydia saw herself
Insert comma: 'with her fire,'
His eyed widened with shock
Should be 'eyes'
Alas for him the one she faced today
Should be 'he', referring to Peabody
in the ribs at the last moment then, as he was trying to catch his breath
Comma before 'then': should be 'at the last moment, then as'
whole, augmented eyes glowing with faith
Capital w, should be 'Whole'
the one Molly called the Hollow man.
Capital 'm', should be 'Hollow Man'
Should be 'was'
Step she did with her attempting to mirror her,
Confusing phrasing
Now where was only one.
Should be 'there'
the old Seeres said the words in the tone of [a] governess chiding a unruly ward,
Should be 'Seeress' until that's her name, Insert 'a' in front of 'governess'

@DragonParadox Shouldn't the Howl only heal one level of damage?
