While we're on this update, I just wanted to say that I just realized that Rei's origin as a Kamen rider has absolutely no chill compared to the recent shows.

Aruto (zero one) gets some time to read the manual. (Yes, really) Ace (Geats) is already an extremely experienced Kamen Rider by the time the series starts, and Houtarou (Gotchard) gets a cool driver and cards from this dude and then just starts kicking.

Rei? She gets SHOT, watches her friends get kidnapped AND SHE GETS TOSSED INTO THE VOID. And yes, this is the way it has to be due to plot reasons.

The only guy who I think had it worse was Takeru, Kamen Rider Ghost. As a reminder, he actually just died.

Well we are a Pseudo rider not a normal Kamen Rider, so we get the tenser call to arms. Although Rei probably would have preffered a more calm intro.

[III] Have Rei actually die and get revived by an Earthbound Immortal or something I don't know

[X] Masked HERO Dark Law

Can we just have one normal aspect to our main characters, instead of trying to be clever and subversive and stuff? I just want to play a Kamen Rider and Meguca running around punching villains.

Yugioh is just a smogishboard of eldrich horrors, gods, evil gods, wicked gods and over powered beings... Dark lords, Darkworlds, terra and sofia, FUCKING SHADDOLS, evil/steelswarm, the light of destruction, the entities, the gentle darkness, whatever the barians are... we really have no shortage of potential "evil benefactors" (big quotation marks here) to choose from, and a lot of them fit the Way more powerful than me quota that is goimg to be our conterparts mentor.

To be honest, I'm disappointed that both of the protagonists are female. Which is a staple in SV these days. But at least Kaneko's mentor is male, there's that.

whatever the barians are...
Basically just a faction that was exiled from an ancient extremely advanced and very spiritual alien civilization. They just happen to have advanced to the point of having energy bodies very compatible with channeling the cosmic force tied to emotional energy. There's a bit more to it than that, mostly stuff related to the hows and whys of the exiling and why they're at war with the Astrals.

So you're telling me they fit in just fine with Kamen Rider.

But keeping it in all seriousness, no characters from the YGO animes will be appearing in this quest, and the only YGO representatives will be the Duel Spirits helping out Rei and fueling her powers, and the certain cooler characters from the sky striker lore.

And, I'm going to shut this down before it gets everyone's speculations way off track, the entity that gave Akemi her wish is NOT one of the many, many eldritch abominations Yugioh has churned out. Though, I'm not too opposed to having them appear as background.

The reason why I chose to make the OCs the main focus is twofold: one, I don't want people to feel like they need to read a wiki page to keep up, and two, the world vote asked for OCs and I plan to deliver.

As for that, well, I've only been on this site for about two years now and I made my account maybe a year ago, but here's my two cents. Bear in mind I'm only one author, so I might be wrong.

Think for a second about what the three biggest audiences for quests are on this site. Fantasy, anime (usually shonen), and wargaming universes, such as Warhammer. Now I'm going to have to have you picture how many female protagonists you can count from these types of media.

Unless you're really deep into all three of those scenes, I sincerely doubt that anyone could get that list over ten.

I guess is that when it comes to creating quest protagonists, SV is is populated by a sort of niche of people that really wants to see those badass and well written female protagonists, and when you have the extremely open ended process of quest character creation, you just naturally start seeing more female protags.

Heck, even I've got to be aware of the niches present in this quest. I've got some people here for Riders, some people here for magical girls, some people who want to see magical boys, and I've got to balance this universe out where all of them should get to share equal screen time.

Don't worry though, there are definitely a few magical boys coming up in your future, if Rei looks in the right places.

To illustrate my earlier statement about having a baseline form that isn't frail... we know that health is calculated as Physical + the higher stat between Magic or Tech divided by 2 from Character Generation 0.3 (the Armor-related flaw had the health formula listed near it):
  • Rei's health in Dark Law form: 52 (Rei's Physical stat + Dark Law's Physical boost) + 8.5 (Both Magic and Tech are at 17; 17 / 2 = 8.5) = 60.5 (which becomes a 61, since QM just clarified that the value is rounded up);
  • Rei's health in Atry form: 40 (Rei's Physical stat + Atry's Physical boost) + 8.5 (Both Magic and Tech are at 17; 17 / 2 = 8.5) = 48.5 (which becomes a 49, since QM just clarified that the value is rounded up);
  • Rei's health in Cartesia form: 12 (Rei's Physical stat) + 26 (Rei's Magic stat + Cartesia's Magic boost; 17 + 35 = 52; 52 / 2 = 26) = 38.
As seen above, Cartesia is the frailest out of the three potential starter forms, having 11 less Health than the baseline form for Emblema, Atry, which in turn has 12 less health than Dark Law. Unless Cartesia has access to some measure of defensive buffs and/or healing, we won't be lasting long in that form and we won't always be in a position to end fights quickly enough to mitigate that frailty. Even Dark Law would be more preferable than Cartesia, inspite of the fact it drops our Mental, since it would actually be tanky enough to be a reliable baseline form (that said, I still feel like Emblema is the best baseline form, since it has no problematic weaknesses and Atry is tanky enough to buy us the time needed to get to the stronger forms from that set). Also, since we don't know when we are going to get another form, Cartesia's focus on magical damage might be problematic if we ever encounter foes who resist magic damage (while we have the silenced pistol to fall back on, which works well with Cartesia since it rolls Mental for attack and Cartesia buffs Mental, that isn't a foolproof solution).

All correct, though I'd like to note that all health is rounded up.

So... First and foremost, the exact same thing can be said about Physical focus vs Physical resistant foes. However, a mage tends to have more versatility, and thus, more ways to work past Magical resistances than a warrior has to work past Physical resistances; as a warrior, we'd have to basically rely on our Magical Girl counterpart or whatever other magic-using allies happen to be in the area. As a mage, we can either use a different element vs elemental resistances/immunities, use environmental damage (ie, collapsing a building on our opponent) vs general magic resistance, use summons capable of handling physical tasks for us, or of course, relying on allies just as a warrior build can.

Cartesia's specializations of Light, Dark, and raw Magic should be enough variety to handle elemental resistances, though they're not particularly good at environmental stuff (someone with Earth and Fire might be able to set up Dust Explosions and similar, for example) beyond brute force stuff like aforementioned building collapses. However, they are noted as having both buffs and summons as strengths, which can help us be a bit more well-rounded and enhance our allies when we have any.
