In the Discord server, link here if ya wanna join (lotta cool stuff, omake ideas and background information), I've compiled four different plans to deal with the threats here.
The Maelstrom crusade is paused and we have three big threats, one of which is so unknown that we don't even know if they're Astartes or Chaos or both or something entirely different mistaken for Astartes while the other two are so deadly that it might very well take the full focus of the Legion to beat them.
Sidenote: while I won't write it down here in case a different idea comes about (and it's been confirmed we can write it in later) the current plan for whatever it is we pick is to call Corvus Corax and ask him to burn a favour with the Eldar he has to net us the services of a Phoenix Lord to help deal with Epsilon-354. Current main candidate is Karandras of the Striking Scorpions, due to them being an absolute master of stealth and thus perfect to bring back Solarus safe and sound, although Fuegan of the Fire Dragons is also viable if we wanna focus on the combat aspect. Eldrad Ulthran is also possible, although they're very busy and would probably cost more to get their support.
For reference, the traits of all three:
(Karandras meeting Kesar can also help inspire, i.e. boost, the Rune of Subtlety.)
[] Plan: Clean up the Maelstrom.
-[] Unidentified Hostile 02-02-FF
--[] 23000 Eternal Wardens, Maticus Ventamedes, Baldur Voluspa, Lares, Aurelian.
-[] Abominable Intelligence Epsilon-354
--[] 40000 Eternal Wardens, 25000 Iron Warriors, Kesar Dorlin, Durante and Vergil, Dantioch, Bodin, Scotty, Vigilance, Legio Deicio.
-[] Lahrens
--[] 32000 Eternal Wardens, Oriacarius Gielux, Doom Slayer, Crescum Auro, the Triquetra, Aengus, Gabriel, Abdul, Knight House Hermetika.
-[] Domain Policing
--[] 5000 Eternal Wardens, Night Watch, Everyone else (Proto-heroes/Named).
Reasoning: This plan should reasonable be enough to deal with the current threat we have. Maticus is a good duelist and can fight any ship boarders for the Astartes threat (such as what was mentioned to happen to the initial Imperial Army scouts) or if he boards them in turn, and if they can be talked to (if they are Astartes and not Chaos) then Baldur can help with that. Epsilon has nearly the 75k Astartes recommendation, but with the heroes sent and a potential Phoenix Lord it should be enough. The Eldar have divination but with Oriacarius to outwit them, Doom Slayer to mince their armies, Crescum Auro to counter-ritual them and the rest just hitting hard it should be enough.
[] Plan: Kesar to Eldar, Oriacarius to Epsilon.
-[] Unidentified Hostile 02-02-FF
--[] 25000 Eternal Wardens, Maticus Ventamdes, Baldur Voluspa, Lares, Aurelian.
-[] Abominable Intelligence Epsilon-354
--[] 43000 Eternal Wardens, 25000 Iron Warriors, Oriacarius Gielux, Crescum Auro, Durante and Vergil, Dantioch, Bodin, Scotty, Vigilance, Legio Deicio.
-[] Lahrens
--[] 27000 Eternal Wardens, Kesar Dorlin, Doom Slayer, Triquetra, Aengus, Gabriel, Abdul, Knight House Hermetika.
-[] Domain Policing
--[] 5000 Eternal Wardens, Night Watch, Everyone else (Proto-heroes/Named).
Reasoning: Oriacarius is the absolute best at command for the Legion, he has countless contingencies for everything and he can even command forces while in a duel (something Kesar can't), and his rerolls can be a life-saver against this AI. Kesar's main psychic ability is to cut off everyone around him from the Warp, which would devastate any and all Eldar he faces and he is our best at duelling too.
[] Plan: Oriacarius to 'Astartes', Maticus to Lahrens.
-[] Unidentified Hostile 02-02-FF

-[] Domain Policing
--[] 5000 Eternal Wardens, Night Watch, Everyone else (Proto-heroes/Named).
Reasoning: We have no idea what the 'Unknown Astartes' threat is, but whatever it is Oriacarius has contingencies for it and whether it becomes a boarding event or a naval battle or whatever else it can become he can handle it. Maticus can meanwhile duel the Eldar and likely be able to best them in combat, possesses a relic that helps him at sneaking which could massively help against divination if it works like that, and he's experienced at culling psykers.
[] Plan: All on Epsilon and Eldar.
-[] Abominable Intelligence Epsilon-354
--[] 62500 Eternal Wardens, 25000 Iron Warriors, Kesar Dorlin, Durante and Vergil, Dantioch, Aurelian, Bodin, Scotty, Vigilance, Legio Deicio.

-[] Domain Policing
--[] 5000 Eternal Wardens, Baldur Voluspa, Night Watch, Everyone else (Proto-heroes/Named).
-[] Purgatorio cleansing
--[] 500 Eternal Wardens, Crescum Auro.
Reasoning: Epsilon and Lahrens are insanely powerful threats. The Eldar can channel divine energy and are supported by Squat and advanced technology, the AI is comparable to Oriacarius while having extremely advanced technology across the board and a highly defended location. We need to ensure both of these threats are dealt with and especially for Epsilon that we guarantee a clean a victory as possible, both to recover Solarus and take as much technology and data we can from that AI. You remember all that tech Epsilon was reported to have in this update, not to mention the stasis tech designed for daemon capture? Imagine having all of that and more.
For Purgatorio, that was the one Maelstrom world that Perturabo did his amazing act right at the start of the big war to banish the Maelstrom rift. Turned the daemonworld into a half-daemonworld, and it's now a place where Perturabo is doing a lot of important experiments including AI research. Crescum Auro's Tier 4 Daemonsbane requirement is cleansing a daemonworld. If we do this then Perturabo will owe us a favour or two according to DaemonHunter, Crescum Auro will gain the hammer that Perturabo used to half-daemonworld this place (which boosts future daemonworld purifying rituals, and some other anti-daemon stuff). And it'll let Perturabo research AI easier.
Personally, I'm leaning towards All on Epsilon and Eldar for what we should do.
