I would like Ling Qi to dwell more on this line of thought.
But maybe that was the wrong way to be thinking of things. Violence was… fundamental to winter, and her ice arts. Maybe she had been focused so much on diplomatic pursuits, she had been failing to sharpen her blade properly.
Winter was a thing that killed, it was the season of endings, even if those endings were for the purpose of priming new creation. What came after didn't change the fundamental truth of the now.
This is something I have said since the first Water/Purification vote when we created FFS. While I like the concept of Winter and Endings as a catalyst for change and new beginnings, that doesn't change the fact that Cold is inherently lethal. And by extension FFS should be a mainly offensive art.
While having some support components is fine, especially if they are based in a "stronger effects the more enemies are hurt or killed by FFS" mechanic, too much focus has been given to that aspect.
Conceptually, I would say too much emphasis has been placed on the end of winter, rather than the depths of it. Focusing on the new life that cames with spring while ignoring the life that died on the cold night.
This isn't something new. This was pointed out on the very first FFS's project, the one where we sang/debated with Jaromilla.
LQ had already realized back then that she was forcing her art to be too wide, to cover the spring's arrival on her song as well, blurring its identity as her-winter song.
It's high time for LQ to pull through with that conclusion, and refine FFS into the cold blade that she uses to impart End to her enemies.
