Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

-[X] Empathy excellency to impress the danger of confronting it without scaring her too much.
-[X] STUNT: You scratch the back of your head, looking embarrassed and apologetic: "Yeah, about that..." you shift your posture, this time looking serious: "I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there is one in the city right now. Has been for months, it seems. It's called a naagloshii, and it's something you literally nuke the site from orbit to deal with, for it's the only way to be sure. Unless you have Navajo medicine men in the force, or can call one from another department that is. Then I'd appreciate backup"

Because there might be a reservation police force with a particularly reckless medicine man that Dresden wouldn't know to contact.

Don't actually want her too scared. No exalancy.

Modified my vote to use the excellency to thread the needle - both impress how grave the danger is and prevent her from being too scared.

Thanks for the feedback.

COMMENTARY
Interesting. Three months since Splattercon and Arctis Tor, and Murphy is still lieutenant.
Looks like the Special Collections Division, or someone else, pulled some strings on her behalf.
Good.

It just occurred to me that this is the first time we have seen Lydia's last name used.
Lydia Rhi. Appropriately Welsh.
We just need to find out what Izzy and Alex's last names are as well.

He didnt tell Murphy about Shagnasty being about?
Hmm. I can follow the decisionmaking process here, between trying to avoid empowering the critter with fear, and hoping to get a solution first. Coupled with a dash of trying to avoid bringing her into more trouble so soon after Arctis Tor.

However, the fact that it was involved in a plot targeting him means that some of his reasoning is faulty.
Because she is a known associate who lives alone and has no supernatural empowerment.
So some advance warning might help.

This requires a writein.

Nice rolls.
Harrys protagnist syndrome has probably gotten more peolle killed than his magic has.
Lets share the information.
1)That isnt true. Im reasonably sure noone has died.

Furthermore, its less than four months since she risked her life to follow him into Arctis Tor for a quick in and out raid and came back a week later, with subsequent major career consequences. Most people would feel some kinda way about involving their friends in more supernatural shit after almost getting them fired.

2)Its a naagloshii. A sadistic unbound minor god angel.
Native American tribes allegedly dont talk about stories of them IRL for fear of drawing their attention.
Note how every fucking shaman he has written to has politely declined to come to Chicago.

In this setting, they draw power from people being afraid of them. Just like Eldest Fetch did.

It isnt extraordinary for Harry to default to the policy of keeping mum, and its generally the right policy, both because of the risk of fear empowering it, and to avoid the risk of supernatural escalation by involving mortals.
It just happens to be wrong in this case, because Murphy is in the line of fire.

There are actually legitimate reasons not to talk about a skinwalker. They are empowered by general fear. We really shouldn't have told Green.
We know how energetic emotions are, i remember that one time dresden used anger to spice up his fire beam. Its not that much it was a stronger spell but nothing ground breaking. A single persons fear is hardly going to make a big difference. And the fear would be consumed shortly, especially since its not even here to feed on it directly.

Only if they are stupid and don't realise that other people like have agency in their own life and don't like being lied to through omission. Dresden doesn't get to make the descision for other people.

Its fine, if she encounters it then knowing its abilities is a boon, if she doesn't than it doesn't matter. A single persons fear is hardly that impactful as a power source.

Its genuinely not. Ignorance is not infact bliss.

Uh, thats a foundational element of the setting.
Its Dresden's job and calling to make the decision for a lot of other people.

The fact that it is the wrong call here doesnt actually invalidate the principle

That isnt true.
The tribes who are most familiar with the subject appear to disagree in-story, and as they are the experts on the subject, who actually told Dresden about their SOP, its wise to listen to them.

The fact that Molly is a fuckmothering Exalt doesnt mean that other people get to ignore the rules without consequence.

Its genuinely not. Ignorance is not infact bliss.
This is the Dresdenverse.
Ignorance CAN be bliss, and is often explicitly protective to mortals.

Thats the whole point of the Oblivion War, which Thomas has never mentioned to his brother. Its true about knowledge of the Thousand Hells; we explicitly had to censor the Book of Yomi Wan so as not to harm readers. Its true about the Outer Gates; Dresden canonically doesnt find out that the Outer Gates are a real place for another five years.

Dont attempt to make decisions with RL logic here. It will lead you astray.

-[X]STUNT: "Harry" you interrupt, elbows on the table between you. "Look. I understand the reasoning. I do. Im not even disputing that its sometimes necessary. Its just that in this case, you're not thinking this through. This...critter" you avoid using the name, "is aimed at you, and as both Chicago's spookyside cop and a known associate of yours for several years, that puts her in the line of fire. I mean, she went to Arctis Tor." You let that statement hang for a moment then continue "The preponderance of evidence suggests she has need to know, even if only so she knows when to tell her people to run away."You pause as another Burger King patron walks past your table, waiting until they are out of earshot before continuing. "Besides, think of how you'd feel if I'd said nothing to you when I figured it out." As he begins to look conflicted, you press your rehetorical advantage. "You trusted her enough to have your back when you came into the heart of Winter's power for my dumbass. Trust that she isnt dumb enough to go looking for an immortal spectre of terror."

RATIONALE
What it says. Talk Harry into telling Murphy by pointing out that she is probably at risk as well, whether he chooses to tell her or not.
And telling her might improve her chances of survival.
And those of her department.

Activate guilt trip.

Also, she knows and trusts Dresden's judgement and threat assessment much more than she does ours.
His telling her will be taken a lot more seriously than Molly doing so.

EDIT
Remember that if you think your friend is fucking up? Making a mistake?
First, you talk to your friend.
You dont throw them under the bus with no warning.

We donactually know that it's targeting Harry. It has used its powers to arrange Harry to be detained at a critical moment, and to generally inconvenience him once. For a spirit of sadism that very, very mild. It is more likely that Harry himself is not the target, but Harry's actions might work against naagloshii's goals.

I'd also like to point out that we aren't throwing Harry under the bus. My stunt doesn't mention him at all. We were the ones to inform Harry, and very recently too. He has no reason to believe the danger is immediate - naagloshii has been in Chicaho for months now, and kept it's head low.

Edit: hell, did we tell Lydia about it? I don't think so, and she's in far more danger than SI. Our family too, for that matter (or at least our father and mother).

We could have called Murphy ourselves. This isn't Harry's fuckup, it's ours.

Yes, I did not show you do it because it could get repetitive, but Molly did tell the other exalt in the city about the shapeshifting monstrosity involved in the conflict which she took no small part in herself.

Also fun fact, hiring civil servants for off duty work isn't just for the police! I know of at least one case in my area where a big business owner got spooked about a protest turning into something that'd wreck their stuff and arranged for a fire crew with ladder truck and EMTs to hang out for a few hours. Don't know the exact details, but seems like it was considered an opt-in overtime thing, similar to having EMTs/similar on standby for weekend festivals and stuff.
