[X] Orbital Bombardment. Autarch Oraranel advocates for a swift and decisive end to the threat by bombarding all ritual locations. Unfortunately those locations are all in major cities and the imprecise nature of orbital firesupport combined with lacking accurate coordinates means you are looking at excessive collateral damage.

It'll probably won't turn planet into a demon world, but the chances are there that they could be planning a warp storm, landlocking a primarch on a world that will be choke full with cultists and daemons

[X] Strike Teams. Bel and Yas both wish to send strike teams to the ritual locations to eliminate it at the source and deal with the ritual without extreme loss of innocent life. However, doing so is riskier and potentially more dangerous than a quick end to the ritual.

I know people think that the bombardment is a safe risk-free option but it's not

people are forgetting that the Jens can and have Leroy Jenkins it into enemy lines for sh!t and giggles before does no one remember that time they guided a teleportation strike out the standard range of a Teleportarium with their power so they could be a part of the boarding action? That was for fun and it could've probably killed them
now imagine what they will do with a billion lives on the line . . .

there's a genuine chance that they'll say to hell with it and go down there themselves with or without us and our traits passive bonus and risk themselves

I know people don't want to take the riskier option because of our luck with rolls in the past
but with the luck we've been having I wouldn't be surprised
if they decided to gather up all the soldiers who don't want to watch the death of AT LEAST a billion people and head down to the planet to try and stop it themselves

Also We're not the imperium
we're not perturabo
we're not the lion
and we're not the emperor
we were raised in the federation and were taught to genuinely give a damn about human life
and not just say we do like the imperium does well burning civilization after civilization to the ground

the strike team option might be risky but there is genuine chance that it could succeed and I'd rather not watch Drake slowly lose touch with his humanity and become like Big e and the rest of his so-called brothers

besides it's literally not even the first time we've charged head first into a demonic horde remember how we got the little anathema trait in the first place?

Let's not do war crimes with our army of indentured clone soldiers please.

Also, lets consider what going through with the bombardment would reflect on us:

It would show us to be a person who is willing to kill billions for the chance a chaos related incident happens.

Do you guys think our bosses and the general population (whose opinion actually matters since we are a democracy), who live in a planet with an active warp rift would not be alarmed by our actions?

It would be very reasonable if they thought "that guy is a threat, we should deal with him before he decides to do the same with us". Like, if the leadership of our planet feels as if we are willing to do such a thing, I can see us being stripped of our position if we are lucky, or have them demand the Jens and our brother put us down.

So its not an option without risks, as one could think of it being. Remember, we are not the Imperium, our leadership is not like Emps or the High Lords in Terra. They probably wouldn't be very understanding of that decision.

Yep. Living in a democracy means we have to actually pay attention to the people of the polity we're working for. We can't just rule by fiat, unless we want to do a military coup, and considering that there would be basically no advantages to that besides being able to commit genocide against people possibly infected by Chaos, and many, many disadvantages, I wouldn't really be in favor.

This is an orbital bombardmemt not an exterminatus we only target the contaiminated part not the whole planet and even they would agree that with the threat of chaos containment there is no choice but demolishing the infestation before it spread all over the world.
We're not 'only targeting the contaminated part'

We're deploying WMD scale weapons pretty much indiscriminately against major cities filled with people who just happened to be in the area.

And no, we very much do have a choice. We can bomb the cities or we can go down and disrupt the rituals in person. That is very much a choice we are currently making

Two reasons,
Firstly i dont trust our bonuses to keep us safe once the strike force option inevitably goes to shit.

And secondly i find the assertion that these people are innocent to be questionable, they've been living under a slaaneshi regime for many years at this point, even if we were to spare them im pretty sure we cant cure chaotic corruption, so they'd likely just end up dead anyways.

I just don't like this Aeldari. Does Drake know what a Mon'Keigh is?
