Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Just go down into the tunnels and start work, you'll deal with the vampires when they come for you
-[X] Fools rush where Angels fear to tread you think to yourself.

I'll add a stunt to my vote once someone writes one.

Not only is this a good chance to learn more about the Hunger, it's also the perfect opportunity to make a minionhood pitch at Thomas.

[X] Go talk to Thomas about the Hunger first
-[X] Write in stunt
I expect that the best method would not be trying to make a minionhood pitch. We tell him about our ability to help vampires manage their hunger. Of course he doesn't need any help with that but there are a bunch of vamps in undertown that do need help. Also incidentally we make our next set of diamonds before the meeting and ask Tomas if he can fence them.

The problem in that case is how to tell him without it sounding like a a pitch to be your minion. Stilling the hunger is not something Molly can do, it is something that happens when one of the White Court subordinates themselves to her.

We give him the gems to fence and just mention "Oh if your hunger ever gives you any problems focus on how you can get me a better price on those gems"

It will sound self serving at the time, but if he does it then it should work and then we can explain how it works.

Of course maybe ask him for advise on dealing with Wvamps in undertown since we are going to be going down there.

Then again maybe we should just skip Tomas and go to undertown. Our dealings with red court vampires make me feel like bullying a bunch of Wvamps that can't control themselves should be easy and if we can help them Tomas becomes easy to convince.

But Tomas would make a great lieutenant for commanding the undertown Wvamps. It really is chicken and egg.

Just bullying the whites into service would be the absolute easiest thing to do, thanks to Primacy.

It is not going to look pretty, tho.

Primary works on all social rolls not just intimidate. It's just that intimidate generally doesn't have to be tailored to the target. Threats are fairly universal and the easiest social to manage on hostiles.

[X] Go talk to Thomas about the Hunger first
-[X] Empathy excellency to understand him better

-[X] Stunt: Sitting in the caffe you agreed to meet Thomas in, you sip your coffee, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible: "So, I think I can imagine how I feel to you right now; sorry about this, it's not something I can turn off. I will be encountering a lot of White Court vampires soon, who were driven mad by their hunger. I think I might be able to help them, but to do so I need to understand what the hunger is, who the White Court are. So, please, could you enlighten me? In as much detail as possible, if you don't mind, I have a lot of time today. I need to know on whose toes I'll be stepping by helping your lost and forgotten brethren"

@DragonParadox would him explaining hunger to us quell his hunger for the duration of the explanation? Because if so, we have a reason to extend the explanation as much as possible, so he notices

@DragonParadox, if the effects of a Whampire's Hunger is suppressed, does that also suppress their weakness to the various emotional banes (True love, courage, hope, etc)? At least when they're not actively using the Hunger?

No, that is a different aspect of their nature.

Acts to carry out the Infernal's will, the various torments of its mutant state are held in abeyance

So things that constantly inflict pain and discomfort, like the need to feed are covered, but they are still cursed to be repelled by the opposite of their nature, so love to lust; hope to despair and courage to fear.

White vampires burn on touch
If you could get a white vamp couple points of agg.soak, that would make things a lot easier for Thomas and the like, probably. If there is a merit of something, that would be helpful. Even one point is prolly enough for safe brief contact.

Agg soak is extremely rare, Exalts have it, but Exalts are powers in and of themselves, weapons to fight a war for the Fate of All that Is. In any other context generalized Agg soak is like 'werewolf that can shake off silver' or 'vampire so deep in darkness that the light can no longer harm them'. It can happen, but it is not an easy effect to achieve by most mortal magics. Your best bet to make something like this is outright Exalted Crafting with the charm designed for it.

I disagree?

Vampires have Fortitude, and for most sorts of aggravated you can at least soak it with armor, if not naturally.

Werewolves have a harder time soaking Agrravated in general, but they can get Gifts to soak particular sorts, like Fire or Silver.
Edit: For example Luna's Armor is a Level 2 gift that allows soaking silver.
Edit 2: Also Werewolves can naturally soak Silver while in their Breed Form, which makes for a hard decision if you would rather be a murderblending Chrinos or able to soak silver right now, but it shows the effect is far from absolute.
Edit 3: Also Werewolves can always soak Fire damage normally, even though it is aggravated to them. It just heals slower, but doesn't pass through their unnatural toughness.

Not sure about Mages actually soaking passivly (Maybe with high-tier Life/Matter for a stoneskin-effect?) but they can definitly deflect most aggravated effects with Forces as easily as lethal ones.

If we get black court minions would they be able to walk in sunlight? I don't know if that counts as a torment or a bane. It is fairly constant.

Hmm... I had forgotten about Fortitude, not the most flashy of vampiric powers but certainly one that is often taken and for this very reason. On the other hand in Dresden Files we do not really see supernaural nasties shrug off their bane and the Dresden Files RPG does not have a mechanism for it other than removing that 'catch' altogether. I'll have to think about this for a bit.

So slow progress on the MA stuff, really make me think we should get the
MARTIAL ARTS
SWALLOWING THE LOTUS ROOT
Cost: —; Mins: Martial Arts 5, Essence 2;
Type: Permanent
Keywords: None
Duration: Permanent
Prerequisite Charms: None
The greatest among the Exalted find it no great feat to master the arts of their subordinates. The experience cost of Terrestrial Martial Arts Charms is reduced to 4xp, or 5xp if Martial Arts is not a Caste or Favored Ability (or if the character has no Favored Abilities, as in the case of Alchemicals), and their training time is halved. During character creation, Terrestrial Martial Arts Charms cost half as much as native Charms, meaning that each starting Charm (or Charm purchased with bonus points) allocated to such a style provides two Charms instead. As a final benefit, the character no longer needs to pay a surcharge when using elementally aspected Terrestrial Martial Arts styles. Should a character who already knows Terrestrial Martial Arts learn this Charm, the experience cost of those Charms is retroactively lowered
and the character is refunded the difference. This is a stand-alone Celestial Martial Arts Charm,
which may only be learned by Celestial Exalted and akuma. Non-Solar Exalted know the Charm by different names; Abyssals call it Blood-Soaked Lotus Roots, while the Green Sun Princes know it as Roots of the Brass Lotus and Sidereals have dubbed it Perfected Lotus Mastery. Lunar Exalted know the Charm as Terrestrial Bloodline Integration
To pick them up fast.

Keep in mind that things being resistant to specific forms of aggravated damage does not immunize them to all of it.

A Vampire with Fortitude can stand in the sunlight and only take damage in one of three rounds or so, but he still dies within minutes.
A Werewolf might soak Silver with the right gift, but 3 extra soak from the gift don''t mean much when a guy with a Grand Klaive and serious strenght hacks away at them.

There are many ways to get some extra soak against specific banes, but none that I know that make you immune or even allow you to use your full soak on them, outside of some Thaumaturgical rituals from V20 that both take time to cast, don't last long, and take a price in damage or blood.

I was just nitpicking; DF really is a different setting, and various "immunity to vulnerability" powers do not really seem to be all that common over there.

Like, DF is a setting where a Faerie Queen, for all her awesome power, could get impaled on a piece of rebar and need some help to get it out. Very different setting sensibilities.

Red court vampires flesh masks are just about a industrialized method for red court to deal with their sunlight torment.

Of course the fact that in DF immunity is basically impossible does make DF nasties much more aggressive in protecting against their banes. Vampires actively sow disinformation about their weaknesses and the black court's weakness coming out was the cause of their fall from being the most powerful of the vampire courts. Fey make bringing iron to the never-never illegal. White court actively try and shape media to discourage the idea of true love.

Do we have Martial Arts 5? Or is that just another way to say melee?
This is a E2 charm, very different system. Martial Arts skill doesn't exist for us. Also charms in ExWoD very rarely have pre-reqs, Holden made a focused effort to move away from "Needs Z, which Needs Y, which Needs X" types of charmtrees.
If DP is fine with it, we could write a port, I guess. I am not sure if this charm translates well to ExWoD system/charmbuilding sensibilities, tho. I wonder what other people think.

XP discount charms don't really seem to be a thing in this edition, but there is a charm that improves our ability to do Ancient Sorcery by reducing the essence cost by 1 (minimum 1) and reducing the difficulty of the roll. A charm to reduce the difficulty of activation rolls of various MAs, or even one for Path abilities, doesn't seem out of the question.

Actually, reducing the difficulty of Mo Kung charms would be really useful, since we have a big enough willpower pool that even small changes in difficulty adds successes to our average roll and improves our boosted Attributes. And I don't think I have to tell anyone why reducing the difficulty of Path rolls would be really good.
