Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Letting any hint about the crown of eyes power out is something we have been warned against by everybody.
Are you talking about my plan? If so, I'm not sure how we could be more ambiguous and still explain how we tracked the car.

Thaumaturgy is a common and well known type of magic in the DF setting, one Harry makes frequent use of to locate people and objects. Us being able to track the car but not it's occupants doesn't need further explanation, as it would make sense to anyone with sufficient Occult knowledge to assume we had established a thaumaturgic link of some sort to it.

people are going to get we have some kind of divination eventually or ways to acquire information just by the fact we're going to be at places we shouldn't and telling things we shouldn't know. Lots of dresden files characters are smart enough to determine we have ways just by the fact we're arriving soon towards wherever we are attacking the valkyrie.

I already gave a perfectly good explanation that we bugged her car. True and doesn't give away anything.

Like with a technological bug? I missed that post.

Admitting to having a basic level of divination talent, something common among even minor practioners in DF, is going to make much more sense to Gard than us having sophisticated tracking and surveillance technology which isn't overly vulnerable to mortal magic exposure. Something we just happened to be carrying with us when we stumbled into Katrina.

We're 17 and not from an affluent family. In 2006 that kind of stuff existed, but it was expensive and not exactly sold at Wal-Mart.

Anybody with a chance can easily hack a cars computer and have its gps report it's location to them. Physical access makes security a joke to hackers

That's even less likely than us carrying around a bunch of sophisticated surveillance gear in our trunk to bug cars as necessary.
Not really lookup how easy it is for a hacker to take over a car sometime.
yeah passively they've got trapped spirits with them as far as I know so I don't see why they would work well around them not to mention she could have other wizards with her later or sorcerers.
Spirits are not humans tech bane is strictly a human thing. All supernatural don't have that problem at all.

Sure, it can be done. It cannot, however, be done casually at a moment's notice to a car in 2006 that doesn't have the engine running or power going to the GPS or onboard computer. Gard would have to be even more ignorant of technology than Harry to believe Molly could accomplish something like that in any sort of reasonable timeframe without Katrina discovering her attempting to tamper with the car. Since she doesn't have to worry about techbane at all and is an active employee of a private security company, I'm not going to assume she's so clueless.

Might as well just tell her we hacked it with our brain, it would be more believable than trying to pretend we actually remotely accessed the car's GPS so easily without preparation or being discovered.

Lowering her voice a little further, she continues."I carry a magic sword that has been able to hurt anything I've hit with it so far, whether fae, Red Court vampire or Outs....spirit, and I can make it hit even harder. -[X]Katrina: Known capabilities and weaknesses if any. Known backup/associates. What did she betray, if relevant?
-[X]Gard: If she knows or has met the current Eldest Ankou in Chicago; Choosers and related lines of work because they are both retired psychopomps. If she has heard of a Black Feast or the Capriocorpus. If she will back us up, short Cliff Notes of what she feels is relevant to her combat capabilities
-[X]Valkyries: Any chance of backup from any of her sisters in the next couple hours?
-[X]Monoc Security: And just what does Odin One-Eye do these days in his retirement/new line of work?

Added your questions to my plan, but keeping the sharing of information as I had it. I don't think we should even hint that we can trivially harm Outsiders, nor does it seem worthwhile to share with her that we can do anything with spirits.

A 17 year old high schooler with no money and 2006 tech is not bugging anybody's car
Much less a thousand year plus necromancer's hundred thousand dollar plus luxury car, with all the security of cars in that orice range, and the capabilities necessary to evade the attention of Odin's personal posse. When

It does not ring true.
To survive the homicidal attentions of Odin's surviving crew, you need to be very very good at personal security.

This.

Yeah, I like this better, after the changes goldfish made to his. It states everything relevant while still massively understating our capabilities.

And I don't mind people knowing we can hurt Outsiders. It makes us useful to those who hate them (which is most people), the Blackstaff already knows, and it was a big factor in his backing us up to the White Council, and people won't necessarily think it's a threat to them. Well, except the Outsiders, and they'll figure it out pretty quickly, anyway.

If a car has power steering then anybody can just drive it off the road. And if it was made after the 80s it has a computer on it. Car are super easy to hack and take over. They have basicly no secruity, and all the parts are networked so a single security flaw means you have full access to everything. Also GPS are a very common bit of tech even then. Any decent hacker would have a dozen programs that would hack it pretty much instantly.

🤷
The Outsiders already know we can hurt them.
And as far as I recall, Outsiders are only immune to most magic, not physical damage.

Spirits is necessary IMO bc we are going to have to explain how we get info without a magic ritual, and having her assume that Molly is having a spirit whisper in her ear is a lot more conventional than having to refuse to answer if/when she asks. Besides, calling spirits is not that big a thing in the Dresdenverse; any moderately informed schmuck with the right rituals can call up spirits.

The unique thing is HOW Molly does it, at any device within range of her senses, not that she can do it.
And that their loyalty is essential.y hardcoded.
And we have no intention of explaining that bit.

Again why give away information about our abilities at all. We know where she is that is all she needs to know. Nobody offers up details about how they know something.

I'm not a computer hacker by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm pretty damned sure this is a gross exaggeration.

Just because something can be done doesn't mean it can be done easily, or in a reasonable amount of time, and there are conditions that have to be met before it becomes possible at all. There wasn't a person on this planet in 2006 that could do what you're describing with the technology that was available, not to a car that is powered down, and certainly not in the timeframe we had to work with.

This is basic info spec misled and redirect. Send her down the wrong path of thinking is good for us. Let people waste energy on things we can bypass with demons, or just ignore as its not something we do.

Do the Outsiders really know that, though? Nothing escaped that alley alive, except possibly the lesser Outsider servitors that the Reds brought with them. They might have withdrawn their tentacles or tongues or whatever parts of themselves that were extruded into our reality, or we might have obliterated them. They might have survived but could lack the necessary sentience to pass on to more intelligent Outsiders what they actually experienced.

If there is even a slight chance they aren't aware it was us who so easily dispatched them, I really don't think we should go out of our way to advertise the ability. Even if the Outsiders are aware of us, this is still valuable information to keep to ourselves if only to avoid drawing more attention than we're ready to deal with.

I disagree about the necessity of explaining our use of spirits. It's non-relevant information that Gard simply doesn't need.

Obfuscating the truth somewhat or simply withholding information is better than outright lying in this situation, IMO. Assuming Gard is ignorant of modern technology, computers and cars included, is a mistake. She's old, but she lives in 2006 and easily blends in without standing out as someone born 1,000+ years ago. She doesn't have to deal with the techbane effect, and that alone means she could be quite computer savvy through basic cultural osmosis.

As an employee of Monoc Securities, it would not be a reach to assume she's had at least a small amount of training in the field of electronic surveillance, computer-based espionage and information gathering, etc., if only to prevent clients from falling victim to such tactics.
