So here is my attempt at the vote.

[X] Try to persuade Matthews to turn the tables in Katrina, you can find Cindy afterwards with the Crown (Charisma+Empath Excelency still in effect)
-[X] STUNT: You steel yourself, your determination to end the threat, for she was a threat, awakening something within you. You do not fight it even as you take in her position and yours. You assess her appearance and danger even as you feel the Nuclear fire filling your veins, changing you. You smile at her, with a smile that promises violence. It was time to put her down. So you make your plea and give your minion its orders.
-[X] Regardless what Matthews decides to do, have the car distract her by ramming her throughout the fight distracting her while you transform.
-[X] Transform into the Shintai Form and go hard on her.
-[X] Use a Melee Excellency and By Rage Recast but otherwise conserve Essence. See if you can limit the power use to that.
-[X] Assess the situation and use Green Sun Nimbus Flare as a finishing move or if a good opportunity presents itself in the form of Matthews or the car or any other ally.

I'd personally go down the minimalist route. Something like "No." She rejected this, she rejected everything about this. This kidnapping, this necromancy. Everything about it was wrong and she would fight it.

Have the only thing she says be 'no' and have that speak for itself.

So if he underestimates us maybe we should start with Shintai to reveal our infernal glory.

Because, as soon as the Valkyrie is dead, we are the only option to save his granddaughter.
So we have to make him believe we can do that, by words or by showing off.

There's a child involved. Im not seeing how a fight here frees her.

QUESTION
1)Is the child in the car? I dont think so, but I need to confirm
2)Do we have any way of knowing where the child is right now without using Crown of Eyes?

  2. Well you could also try to steal Katrina's phone and put a demon in it and by steal I mean beat her up and take it. Molly is not a good sneak thief.

If we use Crown of Eyes here, that counts as the 4th Essence in a scene, and our anima will flare.
Same if we attempt to use an Excellency to persuade Old Man Mathews.

There's a child that has been kidnapped. There's a second child in the house in blast radius.
An awesome sword kungfu fight does not help us with rescuing Cindy, and endangers her sister and her grandfather, who must count as a bystander and hostage so far in the festivities.

And with his grandchild kidnapped and hostage, Old Man Mathews would be coerced to back Katrina up in any fight here, so WE would be suffering the debuff of the wards and house defenses.

Worse, even if we win, we are now
  • Out of Essence,
  • Have either a dead body or a prisoner to handle, possibly more than one if we catch any of the Mathews in the blast radius
  • Will have to stage another assault to rescue a child against unknown defenses and defenders before they decide Mathews betrayed them and kill the child in revenge
Pass.
Im going to vote to listen to Mathews, go back to Chicago, and pull reinforcements.
This is not an opportune battlefield.

Lemme see if I can find a stunt that helps.

QUESTION
1) Will a handful of grass/handful of earth from the Mathews property be a sufficient arcane focus for Crown of Eyes locating the children who walk on it/live on it?
2) Does Cindy's current location count as a secret for Essence regen?

Why would you assume the other child is in the house?
She wasn't present at our last visit.

To get to that part, once we eliminate Kattrin, particularly if we manage it quickly with Matthews' help, we can go and save his grandchild.
He is neither a bystander nor a hostage, he is a mage on his prepared ground.

We used Man + Empathy on Katrina.
We would have to use Charisma + Empathy on Mathews, which is a different roll.
I would expect that needs another Excellency.

I would be pleased to be wrong.

Regardless, Shintai activation requires 2 Essence and 2 WP.
Melee Excellency requires another Essence.
You're burning at least 3 Essence and 2 WP to start a fight in Shintai form, not counting any other uses.

If one of your grandchildren was abducted, where would you put your other grandchild?
Roaming the streets, or behind your magic defenses?

Besides, its an early Saturday morning.
We left home around 5am, and its a 2.5 hour trip here to Merominee.
Assuming we spent an hour in the town proper canvassing evidence its roughly 8.30 to 9 am now.

The only way the other grandchild would not be here would be if she didnt sleep at home.

I admit, the fight won't be cheap.

For the following rescue Matthews support will be vital.
But he is a prepper who has fourty years worth ofbound spirits for a case like this, I'm optimistic that if we take out the boss-battle here, he can carry a lot of weight during hhe follow-up.

I am averse to assuming that he would come in on our side.

His grandkid is abducted.
He has very strong Intimacies pushing him to prioritize her safety over siding with us.
We have seen with Charity just how much Intimacies can matter in social combat.

He's an old man who by his own telling and Dresden's confirmation has done nothing in almost forty years.

I am confident of his potency on his own estate.
I am much less sanguine about his being backup on a hostage rescue mission when we're low on Essence, possibly injured and have no idea what the defenses around the hostage are like.

This is going to be one of those votes again isn't it?

I am honestly conflicted on fighting her, not because of getting mot tapped as that is going to happen if we fight her anyway.

The reason I ultimately wanted to fight here is because we have a potential ally in Mathews and we would not have that in the middle of the road if she tracks us down. Same with motes as we would not have recovered enough for it to matter.

But ultimately, I would not mind if either option wins.
