I will just say again that it would be nice to have the MC devote his attention to a field he truly enjoys, one he shares with his girlfriend. It will also keep him from becoming arrogant :V

It'll be fun for Drake to be highly skilled in naval combat. None of the Primarchs were noted to be particularly talented, for Primarchs, at naval warfare, as they all seemed to have a ground combat focus/specialty they excelled in.

Combine that with us being able to produce top tier ships and none of our brothers will be able to reasonably match us in the void.

Honestly I'm mad we didn't pick up the teleportation tech. Could have had our marines specialize in boarding actions and been able to insert them into enemy ships via teleport.

Approval voting it is.

By the way, these choices won't lock you in or be set in stone. You'll have the opportunity to either learn new things or build upon your existing expertise during turns, but it will just be at a slower rate. Like one area per a turn while you start off with three areas because I want to give you a boost at the start.

I intend for Drake to be the Primarch who specialised in naval warfare. Mainly because it was the Battlefleet Gothic games that inspired me to start this quest, but also, because as you mentioned, it is an unfulfilled niche in canon.

[X]Plan Supreme Commander

It's Warhammer, being able to fight is important. Don't want to end up like Lorgar relying on their primarch physique but getting his arse kicked when fighting other Primarchs.

Edit: Also the idea of a swashbuckling Primarch sounds fun.

Drake is already going to be good at fighting, just as he's going to naturally be good at everything else. This is closing what skills our character focuses on even more, and if we're going to be primarily a fleet based Primarch, then a boost to personal combat isn't nearly as useful. (Besides, if we wanted him to be top tier at Personal Combat, we picked the wrong origin.)

I'd argue otherwise, personal combat is useful for boarding actions or duels with other Primarchs. The idea of a Primarch abandoning a broken ship by launching himself from a metal tube into another ship to board and take it over? Cool and fun as hell.
Not to mention fighting other Primarchs and Daemons. Warp and various Primarch abilities mean Drake will at some point have to engage in personal combat.

As mentioned, yes the base Primarch traits will make him proficient, but if you're fighting other Primarchs that's probably won't be enough. Plus the aesthetic of a naval Primarch with a sword in one hand and a laspistol in another is fun.

You know, I'm surprised nobody has commented on this part of the update yet:
I mean, it's pretty clear it's an indication that they're aware, at least vaguely, of the Chaos Gods. Specifically Slannesh. Which is nice as if they are aware of them and haven't already fallen then they are at least capable of warding off or compensating for the passive corruption such knowledge entails.

Also, question, where do you fall on the timing of Slannesh's "birth"? Cause I've seen that she/he/it was born and was the cause of the Time of Strife but also sometimes that it was born and the creation of the eye of terror ended the ToS.

So, beginning or end of the Time of Strife?

Drake will be more knightly adventure in space than swashbuckling.

So, beginning or end of the Time of Strife?
The process began at the start of the end of strife and then came to a conclusion at the end of the Age of Strife and the Fall of the Eldar. Because the birth of Slaanesh wasn't a single instance, but a prolonged process that started in 25k and came to a head in 30k.
compensating for the passive corruption such knowledge entails.
I don't agree that there is inherent passive corruption for similarly know about them. Sure being exposed to the warp and direct contact with Chaos is corrupting, but similarly knowing that they exist is inherently corruptive. Even then there are degrees of corruption and it is possible to naturally recover from mild exposure to Chaos. Making it so mere knowledge will corrupt you and being corrupted is irreversible feels too much like GW overpowering Chaos as their pet faction.
