Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

in fairness a lot of it is immediately verifiable. also gnerally if harry knew we had an intellectus I think its fair for him to assume we'd often know more things than he does as thats basically a normal thing for beings with said knowledge.
The trouble is that Harry has a lot of experience with good liars and manipulators.

His whole relationship with Lash is colored by the fact that he knows she's trying to make him more and more dependent on her every time she shares a piece of information. He's also aware that while she'll mostly tell the truth, it'll be presented in a way that pushes him where she wants to go even beyond the dependency thing, and if she does ever lie it'll be slipped in exactly where it needs to be to get the most of her one chance to do so.

The fey are infamously good at telling only the truth and still being deceptive enough to ruin your life.

He could buy that we have information, and what we've shared is true so far, but not that it's complete or that he hasn't missed the hook.

For all he knows the trick here is to manipulate a mortal into willingly put demons in everything they can reach. Demons which will definitely be loyal, except for some edge case we aren't aware of, on the one day they get off a century, or if a big enough devil escapes into the mortal world.

That's not true; but this whole thing looks like a free lunch, and DF doesn't do those with supernatural power.

Just to check, are we by ourselves on these expeditions or is Harry with us?

[] In Harry's car outside a quiet suburban carwash you cannot believe belongs to Marcone waiting to speak to the man himself about where he had gotten those bones from
The first step on our quest to learn TMA Chicago Gangster Style!

More seriously, a social off between us and Marcone sounds like great fun. Also we should probably ask about the bones.

[] In a small rural county so different from busy Chicago you could not believe it was only two and a half hours drive following up on a tip Harry got from some Wyldfae about a man who might know something about rage spirits and what it takes to bind them
Meeting a man who can bind rage spirits in the middle of nowhere in rural Chicago? What could possibly go wrong?

[] Still in his apartment, trying to make what you can of the bullet you had recovered from the gunman
-[] Write in question for Crown use
If we can figure out a good question this is probably the most productive option. Still sounds less fun than the other two ofc.

I generally assume harry would believe we know a lot just not that we know everything cause we have enough knowledge in our head now we could write a library amount of info on magic.

I think its not really gonna solidify in their heads we're the one in charge and the big scary evil until we have a demon kingdom in our soul with millions and a verifiable afterlife for those we slay.

If it goes well enough maybe we can buy some lore off this guy to help us with bigger summons. Hopefully we can at least raid his lab if he is hostile.

Yeah, but you were using that to make the case that we could convince Harry we know better than him on this at a base level.

He might buy the reality of Molly's mental library eventually, but getting him to treat it differently than the one Lash plays naughty librarian in is probably difficult enough that we're not going to manage it anytime soon.

Even then I don't think he'll just shrug and accept what we say, since knowledge isn't wisdom or experience. "In theory this should work flawlessly" has probably killed as many mortal magic users as the fey have over the years.

oh yeah no disagreement the library in our head isn't that hard to prove though we can just list off a whole bunch of random factoids about supernatural shit or fuck just write a book it wouldn't take nearly that long to write when you already know the contents. Not that I want to do that now or need the validation from harry at this moment just something to keep in mind. Now for wisdom absoposatively your correct exaltation does not grant wisdom otherwise so many different choices would of been made by past exalts and we'd likely still be ruled by solars in this quest. :p

I like the rural option though I'll note from mollys perspective she might want to actually fight some guys today to make sure the literal evil mage nazis and associates from doing horrible stuff as quickly as possible.

nice. Though, my fav sorcerer in DF is that one old guy in country Florida. He's a mosquitomancer. Specializes in making giant mosquitoes. Giant dog sized mosquitos. Whole swarms of them.

nice guy.

huh looked up some dresden files stuff and some people asked a few days ago who used to hold the gates. Well apparently the aesir did before the fae jim also said the year 1066 was very important in dresden files. Obviously no idea if its related fae had existed for centuries by then though maybe thats when they took up the handling of the outer gates and possibly some starborn related things. Very interesting though so yeah aesir used to hold the gates so thanks odin.

also apparently mabs not the original mab she used to be winter lady.

Lets get ourselves some crime friends.

Let's go meet the man who can negotiate as an equal with Mab

I'm inclined to meet with Marcone first. This is a good opportunity to lay the groundwork for establishing him as a contact. That alone would make the trip worthwhile, ignoring anything else we learn.

That said, I believe we should use the Crown to ask a question first. Just not sure what that question should be yet.

Haha, not even close to an equal, but at least he was able to earn a seat at the big monster table rather than remaining relegated to the muggle bench.

On one hand I want to mess with that sort of stuff at some point, on the other I don't really think we're ready.

It feels like the thread treats Molly like she's already lived up to her potential as an internal in a lot of ways that she hasn't yet. If we want to interact with a guy like Marcone on anything without being the exceedingly junior partner we need more money than Molly's allowance, more backup than literally calling her dad and his friends for help, and minions other than her phone.

I'm not interested in fishing for equal. Gun for hire? Occult expert for hire? Demon tech support for hire?

All that's grand.

I don't want to start playing the grand game just yet either, and I don't think most people want to.

But for our own means and for Rosie wealth and connections like he can supply isn't something to turn our nose up at.

Of the various questions to ask about the bullet, I guess the most obvious would be to learn the name of who fired it. There can't be that many trained sniper assassins in Chicago at any given time, and they're not likely dedicated to Gorfel's organization. Probably a freelancer someone had on retainer.

If we learn their identity, that's a good string to pull that might lead us to bigger fish and could allow us to tie up a loose end related to us and our abilities. It probably won't lead to anyone important, though, since the assassin knowing who actually hired them or sent them on the assignment would be really poor tradecraft.

So with that in mind...

[X] Still in his apartment, trying to make what you can of the bullet you had recovered from the gunman
-[X] "Who was ultimately responsible for sending the assassin who fired this bullet?" The intent here isn't necessarily to learn who picked up the phone and told the assassin where to go and who to shoot, but the person who made the decision that Gorfel needed to die and set the whole chain of events in motion.

Small note, if you start a question with Who you are likely to get a name, which may be one of the ones you already know.

While I'd prefer to actually be an equal first I don't really expect that in the immediate term either. I would like to actually stay independent and able to leave when we want to spread our wings though, and that's impacted on where we start.

There are degrees of employment and power differential here. Right now we have a lot of potential, but no proven history or external power base. It'd be very easy to get wrapped up in his games. Relying on our inherent sense of superiority as an exalted is an excellent way to get unpleasantly surprised.

Something like establishing a cyber devil spy network and selling information to people like Marcone would still put us in a junior position, but it'd be a very different one than effectively trading on the reputations of the people hanging out with us and the glimpse of Molly's nature his Valkyrie body guard saw.
