Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

[X] Caution has served you well so far
-[X] It would not do to underestimate a Sword that can kill a really big, capital-D Dragon, despite looking like a regular sword. You will parry with all the care you would bring up if that Sword was hellfire and you a snowman. Use your full skill, draw deep on your Essence and fight like this is a matter of life and death.

should we deploy the shield as well?

Yes!

From DP's description of it when Molly finished the crafting, I imagine it's almost like the shield version of this:

@DragonParadox Why are we training right now? Is it to learn our limits, to show our dad that we can fight, to show enough of our skills to reassure our mom, to prove something to ourselves or perhaps to others, or a different reason entirely?

Partly it is to figure out what you can do, but it will certainly help with calming Charity some. Also Molly is seventeen and newly come to phenomenal cosmic power so she also wants to show off.

It really is a pity Harry is likely to be skittish around infernal wishes because... you could grant something like this:

This might help with all the totally not his fault fires that seem to happen around him.

-[X] This is the time to, unironically put your trust in god. Right now you're training as safe as you can get with live blades, and this sword you face is a manifestation of god's will. Don't go all out, but let your soul shine as you fight and perhaps against this blade and this person you'll learn something important. That's ultimately what you're about isn't it?

Well if we are in this to figure out what we can do, then clearly we need to do all we can (safely), and since that will conveniently involve both showing off and playing into our desire for knowledge...

So, a bit of long-term thinking. Should Molly attend university, and, if so, which one?

I would argue that yes, she should aim for a prestigious university. There are several reasons to do so. Yes, Molly can buy knowledge via XP. However, we could also learn like normal people do. Prestigious universities are also a way to network with future best and brightest of humanity. It should be a good place to recruit minions, if nothing else. And mundane world is no less important than magical one (hence the masquerade).

Which university to go to would depend on Molly's access to Ways (and other methods of fast transportation), as well as what she is aiming for. From "future ruler of her domain" politics, economics or something like that might be best. The alternative route could be to get an engineering degree (we could make something and use it as a project to win a free admission in some competition). We could model Molly's public persona as a sort of Tony Stark, really. That's a viable route with her charms, and a way to get money legitimately and productively.

By the time we get to that decision we propably have a Hell to rule.

I'd rather immerse Molly fully into the supernatural world instead of spending time and effort on a "normal" persona due to that factor.
Simply because we will have two major lifes anyway, our Hell and the magical setting of the Dresden Files, a third seems too much.

I believe this is a mistake because normal humanity is both a resource and a power that has to be either worked around, or utilized to its potential. We could use minions, we could use resources of normal humanity, as they are not inconsiderable.
A university would frankly be a waste of time. We have other things to do, and any contacts we'd make there aren't worth what we'll be doing.
For education yes, probably. For social actions, getting human minions and establishing ourselves in the mundane world, I don't think so.

The question is "do we want Molly to run from mortal world, or do we want her to affect it?". Yes, she will have her kingdom, but do you guys want this to be just one more small fae-like realm? I want to leave a mark on the world's history. I want not to just preserve humanity from predation of monsters. I want to make it better.

If we need to gather minions and establish ourselves we just need to setup a business. For that matter, if we need contacts in the mortal world, that's what social events like the church is for.

A university does none of those things. It'd be bragging rights of having a totally irrelevant degree. The contacts we'd make would be totally mundane people who at best have a career a few years after graduating. This is worthless for an exalt.

In the same space of time it'd take to graduate the university, we'd likely have traveled around the world, fought in Africa, made a few contacts with various people, and likely made a small factory from scratch.

These ressources kinda are inconsiderable, when compared to the workforce and ressource of an entire nation.
Which our Hell can be.

And we have to invest time and effort to make use of our hell as well, since it won't serve us unconditionally.

We can always delay university attendance for a few years, until after we're well established, if we want to social experience. Or rather than going as full time students, we could just take one or two courses per semester.

Either way, I would prefer to spend at least the next couple years focused on power growth rather than muggle education.

Not sure how college helps with that.

Most of the people we'll encounter will likely take a significant amount of time to get any power, and most won't do it at all.

The supernatural world is intertwined with the mortal one on multiple levels, with the right leverage power in one can become power in the other.

Running a successful faction can become money, connections, and influence across the world.

This is basically the supernatural version of leaving school to start google.

Fixed a minor grammar error that was bugging me, because there is a difference between a god and God, and it's pretty clear which one the vote is referring to. Just me being OCD maybe, but still.

Canonically the masquerades gonna break in quest not so much. There will be no blending in.

Heads up guys, I just had a pretty significant change of plans which means that there might not be an update or much time online for me over the next two days but I'll get back to things on Wednesday.

That whole plot is orchestrated by a goddess with the emotional and strategic depth of a kiddie pool. If we can't kill her dead and make a fancy hat out of her corpse by the time she's relevant we should hang up the exaltation and go home.
No it's not there's other shit that's gonna end it she didn't even end it in canon okay maybe large parts of Chicago not the masquerade as a whole though

Edit: heck ending it wasn't even a plan of hers humans were almost a non factor for her she wanted to harden up the supernatural for some reason.
