Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Like I know it's over ill note we aren't getting any immediately useful details now and are virtually guaranteed to get hunted soon. Gors knowledge could of given us actual locations and knowledge to hit and stuff to be wary for. Any actual white council members on said list well we won't see any results for at least weeks in character so well after any of the info we needed now will be useful. like we could of just asked this once we got literally any other member.

Arc 1 Post 21: Infernal Insight
Infernal Insight

9th of July 2006 A.D.

Cops are not your strong suit and bureaucracy is not something you can solve with Hell magic... "Oh glorious patron of the all-consuming flame it is very much within thy power to set asunder the workings of lesser authority which dare to strive against thine own," Usum swiftly points out. One more scary thing to think about when you are in bed staring at the ceiling. At this rate the night will not be long enough for sleeping.

"I did not mean to cause distress..."

"Not your fault," you reassure him as you get out to greet a bewildered and angry Harry trying to hide it. Apparently that had not been normal cop behavior. Maybe Greene is just an asshole. Or maybe he's an enemy, something within you whisperers and it knows all too well how to deal with enemies.

You shake the thought off, there is someone a lot more deserving of bearing the weight of your power here, Centering yourself you open eyes within eyes, within eyes, fleeting fractal understanding and in that moment you ask:

"What are the identities of Gorfel's brotherhood?"

Lost 1 Essence

The answer unfolds like a parchment before you, or maybe like a tapestry unfurling, each name a thread dipped in blood:

Dr. Hans Ulrich Speer, Bone Digger, Stone Breaker
Johann of Cleaves, Wizard, Pianist, Lover of Flames
Katrina Sigfriddotir, the Forsaken Sister
Lucian of Cephaloedium, the Thrice Betrayer, Namshiel's Bearer
Marcus Scribonius Libo Drusus, the Hollow Seer
Theodosius Cristos, the Broken Bridge

Six come to you, names and titles, some new as a fresh wound, some achingly old come rushing at you, a snapshot from eternity drawn, but one title in the middle stands out above the rest. Dad had made sure you would know their names.. all their names.

"Is he out?" you ask your dad. "Make sure he's out."

Dad, who had been talking to Harry about his license and offering the name of a lawyer if he needs it looks startled at your tone, but he does not question you aloud, mailing sure the sorcerer is not playing possum this time.

You open your mouth to speak, then remember that you are not alone with your dad and Harry. The monks are good at not drawing attention to themselves, perhaps intentionally so, but you remember that Harry had told you about the crown and you haven't known the three of them anywhere near long enough.

"I just realized something, a secret that may place me in danger in the knowing, I beg of your gracious conduct if it is not too much to ask that you should close your eyes and ears to it."

The elder monk nods gravely. "Some secrets are dangerous even in a friend's ear, but should you later need counsel do not hesitate to ask."

"Thank you,." Your bow is lower than when you had met them. One thing to try to make a good impression and another to know the other side is worth it. Once the door is closed you turn to Harry and explain.

"I asked who his friends were, you know so far as his like have them, his equals and his superiors basically," You take a deep breath. "One of them is a Denarian, Namshiel if that means anything. I have the host's name as well, apparently he is really good at treason, shocker. I don't recognize anyone else, although one of them has wizard and another one has seer in their titles. That does not mean none of the others can see the future or that that can't be wizards, just that destiny thinks of them that way." Dutifully you recount the whole names and titles, all six of them and you guess Gorfel makes seven.

One of them most likely ordered his killing, you realize and it's almost enough to make you feel a little sorry for him, but then you remember just what he is, what he chose to do with the gift he had been given. He made his bed now he has to lay in it, as your mother would say. "None of them are members of the Senior Council are they?"

"No..." Harry says obviously relieved. "He must have been lying about that."

"Ah... he wasn't lying." You hate to burst his bubble, but you would hate it more if he put himself in danger not knowing. "When I find out something about the supernatural, the occult, some secret steeped in magic that few know my power gets a little brighter, or more full maybe, like the secret is fuel to its fire. When Gorfel said that thing about Black Magic and the Senior Council it kindled with it."

"Stars and Stones," he curses, at least you think it is one from the tone. "This could be huge for hunting these people down before they can do more harm, for at least disarming Spinyboy if not getting rid of him."

"Spinyboy?" you ask faintly.

"Thorned Namshiel," your dad offers, not even trying to hold back a chuckle. Mouse barks in approval of this renaming of the Fallen.

"Right him, but if I just hand that list to the White Council they are going to want to know where I have it from. I don;t think it would be safe for them to know that you know things like that."

"So tell Ebenezar..." you start but he shakes his head. "Something this big would end up on the order of the day of the Senior Council and we just found out one of them is a warlock. I could tell him that as well, but at that point I don't know what he would do."

"Be very careful Molly," your dad says much to your surprise. "Secrets can't be unsaid." He wants to keep you safe more than he wants to spoke the wheels of the Fallen, you realize reading the lines of his face. What do you even say to that?

'I can handle it,' doesn't seem to cut it, but part of you does think you can handle it, that you can handle all this stuff, wizard, madman and Fallen Angels given enough time.

What do you do with the list of names and titles?

[] Keep it for Harry alone, he will try to investigate it until he has some other source to quote to the Council

[] Offer it to Ebeneezer, you trust the canny old man even on such short acquaintance

[] Offer it freely to the Senior Council, prove that you can be an asset they cannot deny and dare not move against

OOC: Rolls will be up tomorrow, the potato laptop struggles to load links and its really late for me.

Would Ego-Infused Pattern Primacy also work?
Since its basically an Anti-Shaping Charm for us.
It will probably protect us from being directly affected, but it wont necessarily prevent the curse reaching out and using other people to attack us. It wont make it safe to sell cursed dragon gold/loot to other people.
Or even to just have around other people.

Think of the Wagnerian Ring Cycle.
Or how the One Ring can reach out and twist people who arent even touching it. Or what Glaurung did to Turin Turambar.
Dragon curses are bad mojo.

Basically, we need something to dispell any curses first. Whether its a Charm or Exalted Sorcery.
It's as good a place as any to start. Sounds like a great adventure for Dresden to use his full detective-skills on.
And in the unlikely even that the name of a Senior Council member does drop (I don't think so), it would get Ebeneezer involved.
We're playing Molly, not Harry.
We wont have access to Harry's resources, reputation and connections, nor do we make his ingame decisions.
Let alone those of Ebenezer.

Handing that off is turning something over to an NPC with their own priorities and seeing what the dice rolls turn up.
It might work out, it might blow up in everyone's faces.
Keep that in mind.

I admit that I don't have a good grip at the character yet.
He might be petty and stubborn enough to pursue Dresden further without outside pressure or he might not.
🤷
Fair.

Eh, I like Infernals feeling a bit more unique in terms of Charms from the two main-Solaroids.
So I'd rather convert more fitting Infernal Charms from E2 Exalted, than adapt non-Infernal Charms from ExWoD.
My priority is minimizing work for the QM so we get more story rather than their expending that effort porting charms and game systems. In the light of that, I suspect that ripping off a Solar or Abyssal charm is less work than porting over an Infernal charm from Ex2 and trying to balance it to fit in the setting.

Under the hood, they're all Solaroids.

Note in the future guys if we asked every white council member who uses black magic Mccoy Will ping. Heck if we asked every member whose ever used black magic dresden would ping I think he briefly had to use some level of it to make a dinosaur work and has done other stuff very very rarely though.
How you think we should phrase that in the future cause it's definitely something we will eventually ask?

dresden was literally under the doom.

@DragonParadox would looking at Little Chicago allow us to ask a question like "what are the mystically significant locations of Chicago?" or "what are the addresses of currently unoccupied mystically powerful locations of Chicago best for establishing a base of operations?". Would such questions work off a map?

And would a question "How to summon / bind / make loyal Genius Loci of Chicago?" be valid?
I mean we've got literal confirmation some are using black magic in the senior council lol.
Yes. But there's an argument to be made that we (the side of good / White Council / Molly) gain more by making all the White Council be aware of this, even if it leads to the warlock among them learning that we know. In fact, we could burn the question on each of them, asking "what is all the black magic X has ever performed?". Swear an oath that the question will be such and that you won't lie when revealing the results, and I think the White Council will agree to get looked into by the Crown, save probably Ebeneezer and maybe Rashid. After all, it makes them immune to further Crown use.

Harry doesn't have the resources or time to do these investigations safely, not with the other shit he's already dealing with regularly, Greene included. Ebeneezer might not have the time, given his other duties, but he definitely has the resources, and his position on the Council gives him the kind of clout to get shit done that Harry could only wish for.

Giving the information freely to the Senior Council isn't even worth considering, IMO. The White Council is infiltrated by at least one Black Council member, not to mention the security risk posed by Peabody.

this is the old man's job to strike out warlocks and he is the best one at it

Harry, you should have faith in your teacher's choices and not seek to control his actions. Do you think that his ignorance will lead to better outcomes? Do you think that his is so foolish, or yourself so mighty and wise, that the warlock-on-council problem is better handled by you alone?

In case it comes up: If Ebeneezer inquires as to how we know, we can tell him that Harry can validate our accuracy on this, but otherwise flat out refuse to explain further.
It's one thing for Ebeneezer to know Molly "evidently knows (some) things, somehow" but it's very much another for him to learn any specifics.

WE dont know Ebenezer. HE does.
Ebenezer was his teacher. He lived with him on his farm for between eighteen months and three years. Dude defends him in Council. His staff is carved from a branch of a tree on his farm.

He loves and respects the man, even though he doesnt know they're related.
If he still has doubts about what Ebenezer would do, then maybe we should pay attention to the opinions of the only person who actually knows the man.

they can guess intellectus even intellectus has lots of limitations depending on the users type though and white council possibly even has wards against this shit normally which doesn't work on the ocp. So it is a leap for him to immediately think intellectus.

The thing is - Ebenezer already met Molly, and he isn't stupid. He had to suspect she had some serious powers, which is probably at least part of why he let Molly off so easily - yeah, morality and Michael played into it, but if you think a part of him wasn't calculating how valuable a favor from Captain Molly of the Starship Hellfire was you're a bit naive.

Ebenezer has too many irons in the fire to try to enslave something that escaped Mab out of pure greed.
