Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

How the hell did they get a guy with that rolls over max mortal max for firearms. Mortals with max stats are blond rare, at most under a 100 in the world and that is for only some skills, admittedly firearms is one of them.

[X] Run for cover with the others, you did promise your dad not to take as many risks
-[X]Stunt: This is your life now. "Sniper! Twelve o clock high" you bark, as with a eyebending twist your blade returns from wherever it goes, cutting a second bullet out of the air. A quick, measuring glance of the distances, the vulnerability of the car, and you make up your mind. "Dad, we're running to the house. Go!" you continue, falling back to put yourself between the rear of the party and the distant marksman. Once, twice, three times your sword moves during the short rush, deflecting riflefire before you can even hear the shot. A snatching motion of your offhand grabs the last bullet out of the air as it deflects off your sword. Souvenir.

Well this is concerning; what the hell do these guys get up to that they need the ability to drop snipers on people at the drop of a hat?

A gang of nazi thugs working for some older occultists is one thing, but you don't go to the trouble of being able to do stuff like this unless you're getting something out of the effort.

As an aside, it's kind of hilarious that we're basically speed running giving Dresden the treatment he gives everyone else when running an investigation.

The only difference is that we're showing up with an eclectic mix of supernatural related people, concerning magical relics, and bullet wounds while raving about something that sounds insane ("the nazi sorcerers sent a sniper when their werewolf hit squad failed. Call the enigmatic global wizard government and let them know we need some WW2 vets from their death squads!") on day one instead of waiting a week for the crazy to pile up.

They did not, they got a guy with four perception and time to aim

V20 page 277

• Aiming: The attacker adds one die to her attack dice pool on a single shot for each turn spent aiming. The maximum number of dice that can be added in this way is equal to the character's Perception, and a character must have Firearms 1 or better to use this maneuver. A scope adds two more dice to the attacker's pool in the first turn of aiming (in addition to those added for Perception). The attacker may do nothing
but aim during this time. Additionally, it isn't possible to aim at a target that is moving faster than a walk.

The timing is worrisome, but not completely crazy. The sniper doesn't appear to be too skilled if they can miss so badly and Chicago traffic being what it is, we probably didn't get to Harry's at breakneck speed. All it takes is one traitor in Marcone's organization (or a good wiretap/bug) to pass the word of our destination. From there, getting a sniper, or more likely just a nearby associate with a scoped hunting rifle, into position wouldn't be too difficult.

Prepared snipers are nasty. Only thing worse is thaumaturgist with a good quality link and freedom to trampoline up the power.

The sniper is good, he just rolled terribly.
At least Perception 4 means a big natural talent, in addition to his skill with firearms, which should be 2 I think.

Luck is the purview of big-G God and he is stacking the deck just a little bit right now. Its the only reason to explain that miss.

Thank you, God, for being a bro.

The sniper was just unlucky. It happens.
Dude was throwing a hell of a lot of dice at the problem.
RNG Jesus just hates him.

The opposition has to deal with the same traffic we do. And they're trying to avoid Marcone's notice in his city.

Finding a good sniper hide is not something you do at short notice in a city. You're carrying a scoped rifle and trying to find an appropriate spot without being noticed and getting the cops on you. Thats very, very difficult, unless you have previously invested preptime in picking one out, ensuring its safe, and possibly have concealment magic to help as well.

And thats before you factor in that potential sniper positions around a wizard's home might be under surveillance or boobytrapped.

The Za-Lord's Guard has been a thing since Summer Knight, and Lea had the Nevernever adjacent to Dresden's apartment boobytrapped against intruders ever since he started living there.
Getting shanked by a swarm of pixies with small blades is a very real possibility. Or you could just fall from that height.
Given that the base vote is running and the stunt is 'block' you are fine on that.
The reaction of the brothers to Mouse and vice versa should be interesting.

This situation seems as good an example as any of why we need a ranger option. Even if we had the speed charm setup done it'd still be risky to move out of position. We don't know who else they could have moved into the area for this ambush after all.

I think getting some dots in firearms would be more helpful since we don't need to wait until we've built up enough exp for a multi dot charm. We can buy the first dot just to get good enough to not hurt ourselves and try making up the difference with craft nonsense.

We don't need to be perfect, just good enough that people feel the need to duck when we point a gun at them. Which shouldn't be too hard if we can use transcendent anathema to make out bullets do agg damage.

As @uju32 being able to do that isn't easy to set up. At the very least it'd be expensive to keep a sniper worth having on call for this sort of thing.

So either they've got money to burn on contingency plans, or they actively make use of this sort of trick regularly enough that it isn't a waste of a valuable resource.

It is Dresden place, odds are everybody has a list of sniper setup places for the entire block. He has a rep and a known location.
Like you said, its Dresden's place.

Dude is protected, in often pretty subtle ways; he lives with a part-spirit familar, his spirit of knowledge goes out regularly to look around, his godmother is Mab's handmaiden, and he has angels correcting his homework. There's a reason he hasnt been popped despite his multiplicity of enemies, and Ariana being willing to drop two million dollars for his head.

A dude who has an intelligence network of wyldfae is not a person whose home you want to stake out with a gun.
