Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

I think we should consider who we're trying to make a statement to? Do we want to try to intimidate and worry a bunch of Buddhist monks and their allies?

Also, if there is a threat, so we want to lose any benefit of surprise and show up in gear that's clearly supernatural so that they know we're something they need to deal with.

First we are clearly supernatural, Knights of the Cross don't usually have "take your daughter to work"-days.

Second we want to intimidate not the monks, but the party that will likely disturb the deal and cause a fight.
If Michael expects a fight, he is most likely right after all.
Wether the people to be intimidated will be mobsters, fey or other forces will be revealed in good time.

This is pretty straightforward - we're a supernatural bruiser here to provide security, and we're ready for trouble.

If they're going to attack when there's a Knight of the Cross present, they're not going to be deterred by the presence of a teenager in supernatural chain mail, so there's not benefit there. We won't be socially interacting with them. It's the monks and their contacts that will be in a position to be intimidated and get a negative impression of Molly as a result.

And for the attackers, the circumstantial effects of the apparent non-combatant suddenly and unexpectedly kicking ass is likely to be greater than them knowing she's a threat and preparing accordingly, no matter how well made her armour is.

They won't know that Molly has been brought along to fight. If she looks like a bystander, or, even better given CCC, a potential hostage, then we're in a lot more advantageous tactical position. You want to throw away the information advantage for essentially no benefit along with potentially disturbing and getting a bad reputation with future allies.

This hursts us rather than helps us.

Part of the reason for my vote is that I want to go loud and proud into the supernatural world and an Infernal is very well-suited for doing so.

Yes, it's not subtle, but it's the start of our legend, which will only grow from here on.
Well, not quite the start, the vamp-action was also nice, but the only surviving witnesses are pretty discrete.

This is more a political statement than an attempt to intimidate someone. Think of it like wearing a suit to an interview. What you wear and how you wear it gives people an impression. The armor for instance screams 'I'm supernatural and I'm willing to fight.'

I also want Charity to see us in our new armor. No way she won't be around to see him off when Michael leaves on an official assignment, so not only will she know that we are getting into the supernatural danger-zone despite her best efforts, she'll see us in a skintight armored bodysuit of exquisite make beyond anything she could have produced for Michael on her best day. That will also rub in her face that she herself could have been making us armor, if she wasn't busy ignoring the issue and doing volunteer food delivery instead.

Yes, it's petty. Seems fitting for an angry and frustrated teenager still firmly in her rebellious phase.

It's a fun image, but it isn't Molly.
If she dressed goth even when for everday-stuff against her mother's wishes, why would she switch to prim and proper now that she can accentuate it with hellfire?
Because she doesnt know what she wants to be?
Because giving up an information advantage in the Dresdenverse is a good way to give your enemies a leg up on you?
Wizards and supernaturals hoard their secrets for a reason.

Edits done, you guys might want to look at the update again. Including the new vote option.
Nice.

[X] Wear your armor openly, that is bound to make a statement

Looking good I see.You can never have too much intimidate, especially when it comes to mobsters or demons.
If they think they can't beat you, you have already won.
Molly is a 17 year old Infernal with Appearance 1, Investigation 0, Streetwise 0, and no local connections in the criminal underworld or the magic society. She is already at an information disadvantage, and making her fucking unapproachable puts her in an even worse situation information-wise than she already is

True, I had not thought about that, and to be fair I think it makes sense for a teenager with the power of the Exalted in her hands not to think of her own mortality. That might be something for you guys to consider when voting though.
Its less than a week since she was hanging on a magic tree because she did some minor mental magic.
Less than a week since she was comtemplating the White Council coming for her head
That leaves an impression. Even on teens.
The kind of hotrods and custom motorcycles we can make are absolutely luxury goods, however.
We CAN make luxury goods if we choose to.
A refurbished Nissan Altima, OTOH, or a Honda bike, is not a luxury good.
And you're going to find a lot more wrecked Altimas and Hondas for repair than you'll find Shelby Cobras and hotrod bikes.

For everyone voting to Make A Statement, I am going to ask that you be very sure what that statement is and if its worth the price.

We are tough not invulnerable, and remain a baby Solaroid who is barely out of chargen.
There are a lot of people out there who know more about what an Infernal can do, and its weak points, than we do.
Going out loud and proud gives all of them warning that a Princess of Hell walks the earth again.

Just the Denarians alone have head angels who will recognize Molly's description on sight.

I mean, no, she can't.

You can't make armor in like one or two days, without being Exalted.
Obviously she wouldn't be finished with it by now, but she could have been making the effort. I don't hold it against her, and I doubt Molly would either, but I want her to be bothered by it.

The Denarians will find out about us very soon anyway.

The spymaster of hell, who can hear all secrets spoken in shadow, will certainly keep an ear out to the three (only three, in all the world) knights who keep foiling Denarian plots.

We didn't buy the Nickelheads as an Enemy-Backround because we think we can avoid their attention.

You are very mistaken.

Charity is one of Molly's 3 Intimacies. The woman went to Arctis Tor for her.
Do not mistake the fact that the two of them do not agree about lifestyle choices for an assumption that Molly thinks her mother would resent her for making good armor.

Charity is one of Molly's 3 Intimacies.
Yes, and the Intimacy is Love/Resentment.

There is love, but its not untainted. Especially right now.

Emotional and people who are emotionally hurt...may not act or think rationally.

Molly probably could if she wanted with WP9 and Int 4. But WP 9 may also just make her dig in.

[X] Wear your armor openly, that is bound to make a statement

I mean, seriously, in our profession this is the business suit. It shows a proper degree of professionalism, evidence that we aren't just some fuck being carted around for bring-your-daughter-to-work-day.

Despite our not necessarily needing tools... what is our potential for creating tools that act as time savers? Things that do things we could do but don't want to burn a day doing, things that we can let run in the background. Or which let us handle something more complex because we are offloading some of the burden away from our raw mojo. Or things that let us cheat in other ways like something that brings a closed area down to the temperature where you start getting dry ice?

Doesn't mean we should make it worse. We shouldn't do anything to hurt Charity more than is necessary to spread our own wings. She'll get hurt but it should be minimized.

We didnt buy the Denarians as an Enemy Background so that we could give them freebies on information either.

Only Anduriel can hear secrets spoken in shadow, which means only those working directly with Nicky know about Molly right now, assuming that Nicky told them.
And most of them dont work with Nicky, except on special occasions; last time, only four or five Denarians were in Chicago.

Going out openly means they ALL know.

Uh, there isn't anything anyone is voting to make it worse, other than wearing the armour openly, which you are also voting for.
Not in the vote now, certainly. But in previous ones we had a few strong voices moving to lash out in one way or another. Right here all we have to do is not flaunt it in front of one specific person and, hell, we'd probably be wearing a jacket on the way to the site just to keep ourselves from getting looked at askance by passing cops or whatever.

Mostly I don't want the thought that having a mixed feelings intimacy, or our feeling wronged, makes it a good idea to push back unless its specifically useful.

I probably jumped on the thought harder than I should have though.
