[X] Rare reagents (Begin Forgotten Elixir Quest, complete Part 1 of 4 immediately)

[X] Insight Sharing (+1 Isolation and Ending XP)

You know, watching the official map, the Cloud Nomads mountains and the Western Territories aren't really bordering.

Sun Shao is arriving to South, meaning Emerald Seas. That's why he has to coordinate with Shenhua and why he's mentioning pan-imperial efforts.

He'll arrive, make a nuisance of himself, wage a short Butcher Campaign, and whip up the Nomads into a frenzy, and leave the Emerald Seas to deal with them.

I don't think his power is tied to the jungle - Bai Fuxi ambushed him in Imperial Peaks afaik and Sun Shao killed them all still. And those were White Bai & support squad. But I wouldn't think he'd attempt an assassination by warning his target in advance about his arrival.

I thought they tried to jump him in the temple city?

Remember the huge patch of poison wasteland around the literal sunflower? thats the last stand of the Bai

Sun Shao's Simulacrum isn't heading to meet Lady Cai, instead the Count Lu will be.

this is such a mega-brain move from Sun Shao holy moly

Let's look at this line:
"Well, I guess we managed on our own, just like always,"

the Sun and other rebellious Bai Vassals feel that they must rely on their own power always. Just as the Bai were unable to protect their families. Just as the Throne was unwilling to protect the complacent Bai when push-came-to-shove. Just as the plans of the Throne and Sun Shao to contain the Bai diplomatically have fallen to pieces.

We were recently talking about the difficulties in the establishment of a Port in Red Garden, especially a Port that the Jin could access with relative safety. I suspect Sun Shao has seen the weakness of the coalition's will, and has decided instead to bolster his own strength rather than continue failing to find a connection with his Eastern Allies. If he's able to go through Emerald Seas, or launder movement from Throne to Red Garden as movement South to the new holdings of the Sun and Cai, then he can secure a land route which the Bai will be unable to contest without bumping into Shenhua's turf.

In addition, I suspect Sun Shao and some of his vassals will have no issue folding Cloud Tribe techniques into their cultivation styles. I say that Shenhua has seemingly done it by replacing beast-binding with binding each White Plume to a Weapon-Spirit. Who knows what Sun Shao's faction will do with access to Imperial, Red Garden, and Cloud Tribe styles to mix and match as he wills. Something tells me we'll see the return of those plant/animal/man fusion warriors of the old Red Garden within a century or two. But with Imperial Domination paradigms, wealth and manpower at their back.

Disturbing.

[X] Soil Studies (+10 bonus development rolls in fief)

These two seem worth 200 Green Stones. The insights, eh, could be a cool narrative but I don't think they're worth 200 Green Stones.

Something tells me that a guaranteed +10 on development rolls is excellent to get, while the Rare Reagents +1 is 25% of the Quest done instantly and that's awesome. Quests are cool and have cool rewards.

As for Ji Rong, yo the mans really wants to talk to us but he can't, oof. If we have an option to seek him out you know we should be seeking

here you go

Ling Qi nodded, looking back to her own work as she took up another jade slip. Threading qi through the formation, she peered at the information, and this time she paused.

"Heh, I know that look. Found something you like this time huh?" Sixiang chuckled.

"Maybe," Ling Qi said. The jade was partially locked, revealing only a few tantalizing bits of information, it was the a recipe for a potent breakthrough elixir meant to aid in achieving the fourth realm and the opening of the middle dantian. Heart's Dream elixir it was called.

But the information encoded within was clouded from her sight. It was going to take time to puzzle through, but even what scraps she could make out told her that it's ingredients would not be easy to acquire. It looked like she might have picked up a new long term project to be done with Suyin.

Rare reagents would be cool too, but stacking this with Zhengui already boosting agriculture should let us compete with more established clans in that arena.

"Right?" Sun Liling laughed. "Roads right, how do those work? How're a buncha meatheads supposed to know?"

Magnets! How do they work?! Motherfucking miracles!!!

Gah. Had to get that off my chest.

Edit:

[X] Rare reagents (Begin Forgotten Elixir Quest, complete Part 1 of 4 immediately)

I'm happy with either of these. That first one is a straight up degree of success, if I'm interpreting it right, and we may be still in the first half of green stage, but a complete cyan breakthrough elixir... Does that option mean that we'd be getting, not just the reagents, but the stuff to grow the reagents?? Because those are way different things.

"Have you now? So resourceful," Xia Lushen chuckled. "Yes, that would be within my power. I take it you already have a maker in mind?"

"I mean no insult," Ling Qi said humbly.

"No, it is good to develop your own networks," he dismissed.

I assume that this is implying that Ling Qi intends to rely on folks like Su Ling (she helped us out with pills before, right?) and Li Suyin. I'm down to see more of them, so skipping preliminary stages of that and getting into the meat of it has my vote. Plus isn't this something we could potentially share with friends? I assume the Cai would have something better, but less connected folks maybe?

These 200 GSS (in addtion to whatever we get from the auction) will allow us to repeatedly pick the pricier (read better) option and the open up options to support Yu Nuan

As tempting as having a nest egg to lavish on friends would be, I kinda doubt that's how the thread would end up using it.
