Variant on the dread math cabal template for this turn. FSS scrunching planned for this turn removed and this AP plus the AP intended for modding HDW or doing an exploration action, I have added in training Storm Enduring Seedling (SES) which will complete the art, and narratively fits in well with us working to create a garden with Zhengui.

SES isn't the most amazing art in our repertoire, but it does have one hugely important facet which I don't want us to loose access to - persisting techniques after dispels. Given Ling Qi's dependence on persistent techniques both for offence and defence, I do not feel that we can afford to loose access to such a technique in the long term, and the more arts we complete the more likely we will be locked out of this ideology as our way becomes ever more defined.

Longer term we will need to decide on what our first created art should be, and I feel that the thematics from SES (endurance, resilience, music, wood, growth) have great hooks both to Ling Qi (her ability to endure and stubborn-ness) and virtually uniquely all three spirits (Zhengui - plant growth, endurance, resilience, ) Sixiang (music, growth, resilience - a role that she typically plays in supporting Ling Qi) and Hanyi (music). Hanyi's ties to SES are unquestionably weak, but for our created art adding in themes of winter and endings would tie her in more securely.

Yrsillar has pointed out in the past that a cultivator's first created art is very significant, as it is their first statement defining themselves, and I feel that one of the fundamental aspects of Ling Qi is her ability to endure hardships and resilience in adversity are the sort of positives we should be looking to emphasise in that first art, and I feel SES offers useful thematics and art guidance regarding dispelled art persistance that we need to secure.

This plan is not without cost - we are delaying FSS meridian scrunching which means we will be loosing a free AP from the future to accomodate this, and readjust the timing of FSS+ creation somewhat to account for this (I would see T13 having 3 FSS+ creation actions, with the meridian opening going there and Turn 15 losing the AP with 3 FSS+ make actions there to complete the art creation as scheduled then), but I do feel that it gives us a thematically characterful option either for our first created art, or for future created arts which I fear will not be available in the future if we don't take it now due to a combination of AP restrictions and our way narrowing to exclude SES.

Just to note that completing SES doesn't mandate our accepting an insight from it for us to be able to use it in the future - any art we complete is permenantly an aspect of us even if we don't take an insight from it.

Thanks for reading this long.

Between our new talisman, high resist, and, most importantly, Winter Hearth Resounding, enemies must successfully (which is iffy with our Resist, which is high now) dispel each technique twice, plus another 3 overall to pierce the talisman. And all of this while taking two attacks from BKSD every time they attempt it.

Honestly, if a peer is willing to waste at least two techniques worth of Qi and actions, probably more like four, and tank twice that number of BKSD attacks to get rid of one of ours... I will gladly take that trade and promptly reactivate it. Non-peers take several more techniques and will probably die from BKSD or run out of Qi before succeeding. We don't really need more resist arts.

SES isn't detrimental to have, obviously, but using it in addition to our current loadout would require opening several more meridians. Five, to be precise. And we can't open many more meridians at this point, because we're closing in on the 54 jump. And if we're spending that many actions on meridians to fit in another art, there are better options. (Also, you cut a meridian action to put it in.)

That is aside the disadvantages of dropping a meridian action this turn, which I don't want to analyze just now.

I wouldn't mind finishing it! Thank you for the post! :DD

I would say though, that SES has such synergy with our narrative themes and personality that I sincerely doubt we'll ever be unable to master it.

We recently replaced SES with WHR, and I think that SES is a good candidate for successor. It was quite the workhorse for us for a long while, and as you stated we have a lot of personal relation to it's themes.

If I remember right we'll have like, 9 successors and 1 or two custom arts by the time we hit Cyan? The majority of book 2 of Green is going to be about that stuff. Partly as a differentiation from book 1 as green but also because that's how Green works as a tier? It builds up to Cyan by increasingly being about what you incorporate into your Way and making your personal mark on the world and Arts you use. I think SES is a worthy contender, and I understand wanting to level it here.

I don't think it's being suggested that we go back to using it, I think it's just mastering it for the ability to mod or successor it later.

Huh, this sounds familiar, but I can't recall the details. Care to clarify?
In Forge of Destiny chapter 'week 41, Part 2', Ling Qi took a sect job to cleanse a location of spirits as tournament preparations. As she was cleansing them she had an idle fancy of them combining into an Angst Titan. The thread was amused with the idea. This year's spirits will probably have some angsty feelings in regards to Ling Qi. Perhaps if she gets an Angst Titan it could exist in her domain as a phantasm, like Meizhen's terror spirit exists as her shadow. Or maybe Ling Qi feeds the spirits to her dress.

@naths I see what confused me. I thought each side of the "<->" on the Upkeep line was considered its own group that would be switched between based on the situation, with HDW as one group, and MSS, RME, LFWT, and WHR as another. I thought it was strange that they'd be split like this, but I realize now that I had just read it wrong.

I was always a bit confused by the idea that Ling Qi would get the angst titan. I mean, out of the main and secondary cast, there's only one broody revenge-seeker with a dark past and a blood-related archrival with a history of awful crimes.

Ling Qi should present the spirit to Su Ling and use that exact explanation for why. That should be just what we need for Rank 4 in the social link. The logic is flawless.

I mean, I always liked it because for all we call it an Angst Titan, it's really about all the fear and anxiety the disciples feel at the tournament. Capturing it as much about mastering the fear and anxiety that plagued Ling Qi on the streets as it about being edgy.

And a fair bit of Ling Qi's kit sort of peripherally touches up on inflicting isolation, dreams turned nightmarish, and revelry becoming some scarier. It's not about powering up off of our own anxiety, it about inflicting anxiety and the like.

That is, I think he took the lesson of being chain cced by first, the worms then the dancers and went, oh, I bet I could win if I can't be cced in that way. So now, he can no longer be constrained or contained by the dancers in that way.
I am something like 90% sure that the assorted CC measures we laid down on Ji Rong during our match in the tournament were only a small part of his ending up with an anti-caging facet of his domain. Not when Ji Rong getting imprisoned/trapped was a repeating theme of his time in the Outer Sect.

IIRC he first got trapped in time for a month or more by turtleboi, was exiled to being cooped up (how he described it) in that fortress Sun Liling built, and then after the big fight was locked up in a prison for several weeks before Sun got him out in order to train like mad for the tournament. Heck, Ji Rong even started out in prison for killing that one noble - he only got out because he had enough talent for the Ministry to want to guarantee he cultivated with the Imperial system rather than whatever his talent and luck would cook up.

Ji Rong had a long history of being locked up for this or that and several painful lessons on just how much being locked up could cost him - overcoming all that to the point that triumph features prominently in his domain has at least as much narrative weight (if not more) as Ling Qi's own issues causing her to long for freedom.

Watch in Rong's Nega-Quest they first arrive in the murder jungle and he promptly get's eaten by a plant he can't punch his way out of with Liling looking at him in disappointment since its a baby plant.
The rage and salt the questers have will be delicious :V
