Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Regarding PLR, I'm half-convinced that its primary purpose is to serve as training wheels to get a cultivator used to imprinting the intangible, like memories and dreams, into tangible reality.

The first couple of steps seem to focus on a wide area and learning to control those impressions in that area, but with the latest advancement, and possibly even future advancements, we seem to be combining the original steps while also moving to a more personal focus.

So yeah, after the update I am definitely in favor of being Su Ling's Liege and telling her to go forth into the empire and slay gribblies that threaten the common folk in our name.

Su Ling is a good.
Or we can encourage her to get together with Gan Flexington, there's no need for all this nigh impossible 'become a viscount in about a decade' stuff just to hang out with one of our friends.

Actually, regarding high level cultivation combat, wouldn't the least collateral damage come from a high spec assassin? I mean, as collateral damage would alert others and attract attention assassins would presumably have stuff to mitigate that beyond the whole death in a single blow thing. So if you're looking to kill a cyan without ruining things for the little folk in the surrounding area for years to come, wouldn't the best way be to gather resources and hire an assassin?

Then again, as a mountain production specialist with a spider friend traps and barriers that'd produce the same effects are also in the cards for Su Ling. As famous as Su Ling's mother is, she can probably gather the information to plan for and counter almost every eventuality.

Because barons cannot vassalise barons, and unless we adopt or marry her, we have to vassalise her to employ her with a relationship that makes sense in universe.
Didn't we have this whole big revelation about not needing to drag all of our friends around with us forever back during one of our moon dream vision things? Let's let her do what she wants instead of obsessing over this one basically impossible way to keep her close to us.

As much as I think Suyin is , like, in the top 3 characters, I am not the one lobbying for carrying her around. While I am also not lobbying against that, do note that all my replies explain what carrying her around would require, not endorsing nor judging it as a desire. Maybe you should quote-reply someone else, if you want to talk to someone actually trying to get a pet fox?

Do you have a source? It doesn't make sense to me that the only way to employ a green is to marry them or make them a vassal.

It requires digging into non threadmarked territory, but I remember yrsillar stating that barons cannot employ barons.

Mind you, we CAN employ greens... they just have to be greens that reached green after 17, and, as such, are not eligible for baronhood. Suyin just reached baronhood at 15 or 16, so she is peerage, thus unemployable by barons

Baron's can't have other baron's as vassals, but employing another baron for a task should be perfectly possible. After all it likely won't be only the viscounts that want to use Zhengui to help fertlize and boost their fields.

That is completely fair, but I am quite certain the people I was replying to at the beginning of this chain did not mean this kind of temporary employment for a service , but rather, a more involved relationship. In such a relationship, after all, we can't protect her, and she'll have to return to her own territory.

In such a situation, aiming for an alliance instead makes much better sense than employing her, at least for achieving the purposes of helping her and being close to her.

having another Green or higher in our clan is a terrible thing for us (at least in the near future). Why? Because then they will want to snort stones too. We can barely afford our own drugs, so spending money on someone elses cultivation is out of question until we can secure a higher income

Vote tally is really messy

I can't tell which one's approval voting and which one wants to get both (is speaking about the people who didn't vote in plan)

I don't see why we can't just have Su Ling on an indefinite groundskeeping or guard captain role, which at least for groundskeeping she surely wouldn't need to swear fealty to us for, you know, if that's what she wants.

I think it's too early and we know too little about her barely even a thing Way to guess what she will want to do in the future anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if she ended up going some kinda monster hunter protector of innocent sorta thing, in which case from an imperial point of view she would be more of a travelling mercenary or bounty hunter and would prob head wherever she's needed.

Personally hoping she stays with the sect, if she wants to kill her cyan(?) mother she's going to need decades of cultivation at her current pace, maybe a century or so depending on the mother (providing the legend of sword saint Su Ling doesn't give her a talent boost).

Hopefully we can take another gander at her just prior to leaving sect (hopefully she is inner sect next year too) and will have a better idea where she's going then.

I feel like it makes IC sense for Ling Qi to start learning about War, especially now that the Sect is under attack. I don't think she would go out to a battlefield, see dead civilians, then come back and try to learn how to make a pretty tea cozy.

Because she'll have her own land, the tending of which is, frankly, a full time job.

We could pay her to help us in an excursion, but full time employment would be setting her up to fail as a baron, and, more importantly to her, to fail her subjects. Assuming we can even pay her.

Then how could she stay in the sect? Surely she should already have left to go administrate her land, or is it just being delayed for the moment she's paid her debt?

Do we actually know how land is attributed to new Barons? The Empire seems to always be in need of new land and there's plenty around with all the untamed wilderness, but is it the case that the moment a Baron decides to leave a sect/military after paying their debt they get given a slot of land, told to go subjugate it and we'll be sending a couple hundred mortals over in a month or two?

I understand the Empire wants to tie cultivators into it's system, but this seems like it would result in those who don't want to administer causing horror stories, if not through malevolence through incompetence. Can you imagine if Ji Rong didn't get a crush on Liling and was just thrown out with a a new villages worth of people relying on him? It would be an absolute disaster. Perhaps this is offered with some big hints and benefits, but forcing it seems like a bad idea.

I'm sure there's got to be a grace period or something, and as long as they're working for the good of the Empire, which as an effectively professional monster hunter she definitely would be, I can't see any ministries or anything getting on her case about it.
