As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

By itself, its magic. Terrifying magic that would probably best be forgotten. I don't care if its manufactured with rituals that have the trappings of technology.

Hm. So here, past that, we have a miniature Doom. At least that is a working theory.
But our contact with magic, minor as it maybe is going to lead to interesting... consequences down the line. Consequences that I will not spill the beans to.
How many survivors are there total? Including inconsequential like chambermaids, guards, and what have you.
While rude to the common man... only about 50 people survived.

They will be dealing with... issues involving smoke inhalation... and magical bullshit.
Through since Ser Gerold is with us and we will be meeting our good old jolly uncle Yohn who is a absolute beast we probably can learn a thing or two from them while on the move, combat and commanding to be specific.

Who knows, now that we atleast have a idea that magic might be real Arstan could ask to take a closer look at the Royce runes?
For Learning to command... sorry, but experience is the best teacher, even if we're with some of the biggest badasses of the vale. They might not have time to personally teach us everything they know. We'll need to gleam what we can from meetings, strategies on the field, and on the ships.

As for the Runes... that is a secret I will not tell you about, mostly because of REASONS!
I'll vote for this... because our father is legitimately losing his composure.
Finding out your wife was murdered and it almost led to the death of your son tends to do that to you.
Our fury is that of a scalpel: A passing cold sensation and then the realization that you are now missing your favorite artery or tendon. A single inch of steel in the right place would bring down the Mountain himself.
That is going to be a good reason to NOT get in the way of dear old dad. He might not be a Baratheon rage master... he might be a cold-blooded predator like our sigil is. And that might lead to certain... difficulties to interact with him and get him to see other scenarios.
Maybe convince some sellswords to you know not keep fighting for the Brotherhood and if we are lucky convince them to work for us at least for a time.
Probobily not going to happen. These Sellswords have already Sacked Tyrosh and Sunspear.... They have a boatload of cash per each sellsword from the sacking. They ain't giving up shit, especially since we're coming to them.
I worry about putting the entire Vale leadership together but we're to one day lead these people.
While that is a worry, we've got Ser Gerold to protect us... We should be okay as long as we don't face Mayles, or the Lord of Battle... or the Red Priest.

Wouldn't that be more of a reason to you know convince some of the sellswords to just run or even backstab other sellswords on the way out? Can't use the cash if you're dead. We just need to convince one group to run and case damage to just make the others not trust each other.

Why would they run away from a group that can clearly win those kinds of battles though? Yeah they've got the forces of Westeros coming towards them, but they are confident that they could win.

Ask me again after you win a few battles.

Some could say they only got those sackings because the cities didn't think they would be attacked. This time its armies they'll face. Being confident doesn't mean they can win. Obviously they'll tell you what they want you to hear. Especially when the leaders are more at risk than the average sellsword is.

Hold your beans.

They aren't rolling around in the damn stuff so I can hope we don't see another Mantarys writ small. Still a good thing that the kids were so far along. Being the unholy fusion of Rhaegar and Jaime/Cersei they have enough to deal with. And poor Aerys sees shit anyway, and this stuff made us see shit.

We aren't going to be soft ourselves. He'll cut necks, we'll cut human souls.

We've used our words to try to make the world right, with limited success. Now let us see what happens when we use them to tear it apart.

No... No Mantarys bull shit. We just have to watch the rumors.

As for the unholy fusion... well their Targaryen... so them falling in love with each other might not raise too many eyebrows.:V

Well, I'd say something along the lines of Dune, but that would be a disservice to us.

Just as good? Consider the High Valyrian culture and the woman the girl is named after. While there is a stigma against a female monarch since the Dance, few eyelashes would bat at the woman picking up a sword. If she equaled her brother it would simply be divine providence.

I wonder if their next child shall be a dwarf. And also the nature of Tywin's future brood.

Pretty much.

I don't know, but if it's another girl, you can guarantee polygamy. or at very least a polyamorous relationship.
And also the nature of Tywin's future brood.
Tywin will be very happy with his brood... that's all I will say.

How much does the vale have in reserve? The Vale info sheet only tells us that we have a net profit of a little over 200,000 dragons last year.

close to 15 million is Reserves.

Edit: updated, but I hope that I did the math correctly.

I thought I missed something out because I remembered the 15 million figure from somewhere but couldn't find it. In that case, dad is filthy stinking rich, a 200,000 bounty is nothing to him.

3rd greatest economy in Westeros... lots of money, especially when we've been dealing with investments.

Something I'd like to point ou.

I hope people aren't looking at our Legendary Diplomacy skill and begin to think and plan along the lines that we will be using diplomacy only, talking our way out of every situation or something of that nature.

We are good with words, very good even but let's not hyper-specialize and invest everything on that. A good ruler is a balanced ruler.

When presented with a situation where we could talk our way out of something but another option that is more martial or intrigue inclined seems to be more logical or profitable in the long run we should be going for those instead.

Seen too many good quests ruined by the players focusing on only one skill instead of branching out.

Edit: also those bounties....yummy...huge potential for a lot of cash there.

well we migth need more martial ability and intrigue(you can never have enougth) but we are pretty good overall
after the war we need to work on centralising the vale and modernising it (if it is not already )
maybe fortify it a bit more and create more ships

I'm not sure why you think modernization is such a good idea, if you'd like to propose why?

Personaly I don't think it's even going to happen, we are not some Modern Age SI or OC inserted into Arstan. So we have no idea what 'modern' even is or what it entails, not that we would be able to do it anyway. I personaly dislike those types of stories where the MC is placed into a low/high fantasy medieval setting and immediately starts to modernize everything with no pushback from the local population for his 'for them' crazy and/or dangerous ideas.

Especially in ASoIaF stories. Do remember this is a world where technology, society and the culture in general has been stagnant for thousands of years. It's highly improbable that the peasants would accept it and the lords are more likely to try and assassinate you then allow you to impose a system on then that would see their power diminished.

The only modernization I could see us doing in the Vale is something that may already exist in the world somewhere in Essos like a Merchant-class, farming/mining technologies or something like that.

What we can certainly do however is create something like a non-religious Knightly Order which I agree Westeros is sorely lacking.
