As An Eagle Flies (A House Arryn Quest)

@Magoose Who else is swearing this oath?Because unless Tywin and Aerys swear this oath with us there is no point binding ourselves to this ball and chain.

The path of Nothing is the best choice as it allows us to keep our options open.

Our Father is obviously a diplomat, and following him along that path is only wise if we think he is going to die. Do we expect the old bird being close to death? No.

Tywin is unlikely to swear the oath but will clearly be an administrator; the best Westeros has ever seen. Going the Steward route is only good if we want to be Aerys' first Hand of the King. Also note that only ourselves, Rhaella and Steffon are keep an Aerys sanity in check. This is why Tywin and his King's relationship crashed and burned after Steffon died.

Steffon will likely be a diplomat or warrior. Nymeria is going spy master and will obviously swear the oath.
Joanna is a complete unknown but is likely to swear the blood oath.
Aerys will only swear the blood oath if Steffon, Rhaella and we do.

Ultimately our choice comes down to this: do we expect war in our future or peace? If we expect war, we should be going the Warrior path or the Nothing path. If we expect peace we should do the Administrator path, Spy Master path, or the Diplomat path.

[X] Plan Talking Good
-[X]Swear the Oath: I Arstan of House Arryn, do swear this oath. (If you do, you will have access to Nymeria's buddling spy network)
-[X]The Path of the Diplomat: The Same path as your father, you will use your words and your mind to win the coming battles that may occur. (For the Remainder of your time in King's Landing, you will Master the Art of Diplomacy.)

Aerys will swear the oath, Steffon, Raehlla, and Nymeria will sign up as well. Joanna and Tywin are on the fence because they will decide with you...

They are more likely to join if you join.

That is entirely up to you. But the Blackfyre nine penny wars are coming.

We have a war coming up, the Blackfyre rebellion is imminent, probably get into full swing when we come of age, we need to up our combat skill.

Thing is we are gonna train to fight no matter the choice we make here. Ask to squire next turn while learning another skill is my thought process here.

Well. Damn those dice rolls.

[X] Plan Talking Good

I don't think we're ereally fit for sreiaght skull bashing or intrigue, but generally intelligence, the ability to Diplomance and following in Dads footsteps are good. Honestly, I think being able to talk people around helps with the "true knight" trait more than straight combat skill

Was tempted by Steward, but that's not a great fit for the Arryns based on how the Fulltown cousins are seen. If we get Diplancer skills, we can talk one around though and change perception.

In regards to my previous breakdown I present this. With Aerys being the one to propose this oath it's not all bad tying ourselves to it. Our skills and inate friendship should allow us to bind Tywin and Steffon to this oath as well.

[X]Plan Jack of all Trades
-[X]Swear the Oath: I Arstan of House Arryn, do swear this oath. (If you do, you will have access to Nymeria's buddling spy network)
-[X]The Path of Nothing: You will not suffer the path chosen before you, you will learn all there is to learn, all there is to see, and more. (For the Remainder of your time in King's Landing, you will Master nothing, and every turn, you will need to study by yourself to gain mastery. However, you gain a +10 to learn all skills because you are the one dedicating your time to it.)

Why would we go for administrator over diplomat? I am aware that being well versed in finance is a great skill to have, especially when dealing with Bravossi. However, we have a trait that could make us the best diplomat that Westeros has ever seen. "The Child of Bonds" trait gives us a 50/50 for making friends.

Use this properly and we can leverage plenty of aid for both the Vale and Westeros as a whole. Besides, our father is both a Master Diplomat and a Master Administrator. We can always try and learn the latter should we really desire to.

Though while we are in King's Landing I want to make the most of it. Tywin and Steffon are the foundation, holding up the ideas Areys comes up with via Stewardship and Martial ability. Nymeria and potentially Joanna keeping watch with Intrigue, and us, Arstan, being the glue to hold it all together.

So anyone want to know what's going on with the Starks?

Cause in a few days we might be learning about the boys up North... and their problems.

[X]Plan Nothing is True

Are the Braavosi mad? Why do a fraud like this. Stealing tax money from kings is a proven way to get killed.
Well... it's been going on for awhile at this point in time, the reputation of the iron bank protecting most anyone who asks any questions and the faceless men can be bought if need be.

Come on this is two of the most powerful institutions in the world, who basically control the Narrow sea with their navy.

As for why Westeros? Easy: it's a backwater with almost no industry, no identity and one move away from fragmenting into seven kingdoms (as we see in the books and game of thrones mod). If it shatters into seven kingdoms or Bravos (or any other free city for that matter) negotiates even more draconian trade treaties or loans, I guarantee you that Westeros will lose money with even selling goods to them.

Which is why (now at least) a few people in power (Tytos, Aegon, Jon, Jahareyes) are doing all this escapade/ James Bond shit

They might be able to turn Westeros into a rival to Essos, and a more powerful one at that, because of the continents manpower and resources.

In summery: Essos, for all their blister and wealth, are Scared shitless of a unified Westeros. All it needs is one or two good kings, no civil wars, and a few geniuses on the small council to get the Economy of Westeros booming. And with that boom, they might be able to outlaw slavery Dany style.

(Or at least stop slavers from even thinking about coming to Westeros)

It might not be the renaissance of our world where Westeros will become a global power by the sea, but one where the other powers of the world will respect it.

Guys we have great traits that would help us greatly if only we increase ours ability to talk. Fighting and learning numbers will be easier to learn with being a squire and just ruling the lands with our father.

"The Child of Bonds: You desire nothing more than friends and comrades, and that desire draws others to you. Older, or younger, male, female, it does not matter. You bring people together, with their bonds with you. (You have an aura that draws people towards you and make them your friend. If you meet someone new, there is a 50/50 chance they might become a friend. With your friends, you have a +20 to all rolls during events. With your friends, you will not suffer any debuffs in a relationship from differing religion)"

Christ, I forgot about this trait. Seriously guys we really should take Diplomat to synergize here. We are a fuedal lord. Spending more time with the accounting books than socializing with our vassals is a huge mistake. There's a reason why you take Grey Eminance in CKII and use it to poach a good Stewardship guy. If we keep our heads on sreiaght we can delegate the serious accounting to others while having good enough social chops to determine if they really are loyal/not lying to us (no just assuming based on our wife's words or that a minor noble would be "grateful" obviously)

You seem forget this is a low fantasy medieval scenario. How our vassals perceive us is partially dependent on how good a fighter we are.

I'm tired of these diplomatic, "talk through every problem even when it's detrimental to our cause" Characters. Realistically should we go for a diplo focused character it would only end up biting us in the ass.

This is a feudal monarchist world with few values and even fewer morals. We would be shafted the very moment we try and go for a pacifistic and "White Knight" route. Honestly the reason why I dislike 90% of the quests of this type on this site is that everyone tries to impose their modern values and morals on a fantasy and ahistorical setting even when its freaking obvious that it would never work out.

Fact is, Westerosi respect Martial might and it's a VERY important aspect of being a lord in a society like Weteros. A diplomacy focused character who from my experience and going by the route y'all seem to be trying to take this is the typical naive good guy, we probably won't survive up to our early adult years. IF we somehow miraculously do then that's probably due to lucky rolls or the world bending to fit the players.

Y'all know what became of Eddard Stark, dont be Eddard Stark.

I thought that the schemer route would be the most interesting story wise. Swearing the oath will bring us in the circle of trust.

-[]The Path of the Courtier: You will study the way of court, how to spy, and counter spy, how to play the game of thrones… And win. (For the Remainder of your time in King's Landing, you will Master the Art of Intrigue and subterfuge)
