Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

We need to break the illusion, or whatever this is, but pumping Chakra into it isn't working. Attacking 'Tokei' is pretty clearly also a horrible idea. So ... plans, anyone?
[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your tongue hard.

Let's keep it simple and act like a smart cookie for a change.

Ignore what we see, concentrate inwards, try to sense and control your chakra and if all else fails there's a second way to dispel genjutsu.

You are welcome.

[] This is still an illusion! You know it! You just need to break it! Pump even more chakra into your dispelling technique and escape it!

Good idea, let's do the exact same thing a fourth time.
It take it more of a choice of mindset try to escape what we know is a illusion or try to potentaly sword down a illusion (it all but invites us to try to do it) possibly still moving in real world. (Unlikely) It probably is variant of hell viewing it gives us our trauma/fear.

We are certainly gonna attack our teammates if we choose to attack.

[X] Plan: Calm Analytics
-[X] You know this is a genjutsu. You know that Kurenai is a mistress of genjutsu, so it is no surprise that you can't escape it. Calm yourself, you know this is all a fake.
-[X] You are not the little boy that was helpless back then, be confident in what you accomplished, and try to endure the trauma.
-[X] The quest log only confirms that Kurenai has started to attack your group, and it tells you to survive, not fight or win. So the winning condition is to last long enough.
-[X] Try to break the genjutsu with more Chakra, but otherwise, trust in your teammates to break it for you, and don't panic.
-[X] Go into an unarmed defense only to ward off attacks from Tokei, but limit yourself so that you aren't attacking your teammates.

Genjutsu: Elite (3250/5000) (Reward XP Invested: 2750)
Senses: Simple (490/800) (Reward XP Invested: 40)
Intelligence: Superhuman (1450/2000) (Reward XP Invested: 380)
Willpower: Superhuman (1300/2000) (Rewad XP Invested: 270)
Wits: Superhuman (1360/2000) (Reward XP Invested: 570)
Both doable. Accepted.

Both given options are non-ideal.

Given the obvious nature of the genjutsu, brute-force attempts at dispelling it are almost certainly expected. Which means that simply putting more chakra into dispelling is likely not going to work because Kurenai would have accounted for it and made it impossible to break that way.

We've already tried dispelling it ourselves - continuing to try to dispel it isn't going to change anything because it's obvious she's already accounted for that and dispelling it with chakra does nothing. To do something we've already proven isn't working is insane. Especially because it leaves us open to Tokei's Phantasm.

On the other hand, retaliating against the Phantasm might be bad if we're still mobile in the real-world. We might end up hurting one of our teammates - or ourselves - if we fight Tokei directly.

Still, it feels like facing our inner demons might be the point of the genjutsu, so we can't just ignore Tokei, but we also have to be wary that we might still be moving in the real world.

And as to DerHeese's write-in, if we're stuck inside our mind and disconnected from actually moving our body (which might explain why chakra-pulsing to dispell didn't work - we're trapped in our head and can't actually control our body), then biting our tongue won't do anything because our body won't actually bite our tongue in the real world to provide the pain to jolt us out of the illusion.

Basically, we don't know enough about the illusion. What we do know implies that the most obvious answers are also possible traps given our lack of information. So, more chakra isn't a good answer because it's obvious the illusion accounts for it and ignores such attempts. Fighting Tokei isn't a good answer because we might still be mobile in the real world. Biting our tongue to introduce pain isn't a good answer because we might not be connected to the real-world, and any pain will be a mental aspect of the illusion...

For me this feels like dumb and dumber.

Daisuke a very smart young man with a gift for gen-jutsu.
Intelligence: Superhuman (1450/2000) (Reward XP Invested: 380)
Willpower: Superhuman (1300/2000) (Rewad XP Invested: 270)
Wits: Superhuman (1360/2000) (Reward XP Invested: 570)

Genjutsu: Elite (3250/5000) (Reward XP Invested: 2750)

And yet people are voting for the option of playing along in an obvious illusion while holding a sword, or do the exact same stupid thing a fucking fourth time.

He should know that pain, that isn't inflicted in in the illusion itself breaks the genjutsu.

I mean, come on...

Edit: This is a simple test for genins straight out of the academy, let's not make this bigger than it needs to be.

[X] Try and plug your nose with what ever you have to hand, in the meanwhile defend yourself from Tokei, when you have a moment that won't risk you getting skewered by Tokei try and break the illusion again, using a combination of Chakra and pain.

@Vesvius Is this allowed?

[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your tongue hard.

As long as we don't hurt the others, everything's good enough. Still, we should at least try the most basic genjutsu braking methods. I believe this is next on the list.

Edit: It is true that if the genjutsu is only happening inside our head and our body is sleeping, the pain method does nothing. Still, in that scenario we can't do anything but endure anyways, and our method of doing so would largely be a matter of taste. Struggling to escape seems more like Daisuke than just zen-like acceptance and waiting.

[X] This moment has haunted you the last seven years. Hidden from thought, its shadow clings to you. Is it any wonder how you move here, foolish as it may be? Attempt to disarm him and knock him unconscious.

The correct option is probably to try to break the illsion. Not through brute force though, even with our reserves, we are still going up against Kurenai. No doubt what we're supposed to do is stab ourself to wake up or something, or perhaps induce an extreme emotional state in ourself to get out, or if we're being really tricky, attempt to modify the genjutsu somehow. Perhaps, trusting that this is not real, we're meant to escape by entering a meditative state or something.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, I'm putting all of that to the side because I can see this being a real character moment, so I wanna play along. A bit different from the base option though.

[X] Duel this mad figment of the worst moment of your life. Before you were barely able to hold a sword, now you've become an Expert at Kenjutsu. Focus on making sure he can't harm you and ignore his words.

@Vesvius ?

Well, this is an odd feeling. Knowing what boars are like IRL this hurts my brain, but on the other hand ninja.

Oh no, she really DOES have a Dai shrine.

Doable. Accepted,

I'm sorry everyone... i already like Mariko.

I mean, she's a board game nerd! I CAN'T NOT LIKE HER!

by the way, we already saw how dispelling this genjutsu the normal way probably won't work. Pain might work, but as others said only if we are really moving outside of the illusion. And this might even NOT be a normal Genjutsu, but some kind of super hallucinogen (which would be brilliant, who would suspect the Genjutsu mistress of NOT using genjutsu?).

Our objective is to survive. Not to win. We shouldn't try to overdo it. It's possible our teammates are facing something different (for example an apprenticeship offer for Mariko) and we just have to hold on long enough for them to free us.

So
Quest Acquired: Party Till I Die!
Kurenai-sensei has made it clear that if her party tonight is not a success then she will be taking your headbands and with then, your ranks as shinobi. This cannot be allowed!
Success Condition One: Bring the correct thing to the party!
Success Condition Two: ???
Success Condtion Three: ???
Skills: Diplomacy, Perception
On Success: Genin Rank Confirmed! Gain achievement 'Down On Day One'!
On Failure: Loss of headband, ???

Assuming Condition Two is escape the city genjutsu, what's condition 3?

It is likely what we see is Tokei is a teammate. It is also likely that our teammate sees us as an enemy as well in the genjutsu. Attacking is likely a bad idea because of this. Doing nothing is also bad since it would get us hurt by our teammate. We should go on the defense.

could do this?:
