Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

So the wrecking ball in the team is now kiba instead of Jabari. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Also, interesting team choices.

[X] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.

Gotta be there for the bestie. Don't think we can do anything about the teams so looking to simply see how things play out. Worst comes to worst, most of us'll probably fail the Jounin tests and we can end up in a different team for the exams...
She was outright making seals and getting ready to use a Jutsu on us in the middle of a classroom. Considering we're ninja, that's basically like pulling out a Kunai, and getting ready to throw it. Was it going to be lethal? No. Would it have been horrifying or painful or traumatizing? Considering she's a Genjutsu User? Yeah probably.

When she's outright ready to attack us, for flicking chalk at her head, after she disrupts our presentation, and Iruka outright told the entire class to treat us with the same respect they give him, I'd consider that an enemy.

Plus, you know, seven entire years of aggressive antagonism against both us and our best friend who also happens to be her own cousin.

For the record, omakes had minimal impact on my decisions here. Teams have been set for a while, with fluctuations depending on things like RotY accounted for and charted. If you must be salty- feel free, it sustains me- make sure to keep it pointed in the proper direction, and not at people who just enjoy the quest.
Maybe either write a side story scene where the teams where discussed as a separate section or add it to the update? I think seeing the reasoning for the teams (or at least our team) would help a lot.

[X] There must be some mistake. Go talk to Iruka-sensei now, and try and change his mind! He's always listened to you in the past before. This time will be no different.

This was something we expected to have heal on its own but then someone had to put us literally into the same team... the girl has a screw loose when it comes to us and I fully expect her to stab us in the back in the middle of the night while we are out on a mission sleeping. There should be some kind of report we can file now that we are "genin" to anonymously have our team mate watched for sociopathic tendencies.

Besides the outright hostility she has displayed throughout the academy? We have not tried to provoke her but she goes out of her way to provoke us or Ino. And that has continued to this year (see our history presentation).
A teenager talking during a history presentation? The horror! Frankly her attitude to Daisuke has always seemed more "ugh fuck that guy" than "how can I make him miserable" to me.

I think he means "our biggest enemy to date". But she's irredeemable because she's hated us from the very start and put Ino(Her own cousin and likely future Clan Head!) on her shitlist just because Ino wanted to hang out with us as well/more than her. She's displayed outright hostility in every interaction we've had with her(Which I don't get how Iruka missed), and has not made a single attempt to reconcile or compromise with either us or Ino in any way. That's not someone we can trust to have our back at all.
Bigger than the guy who tried to kill us?

I would reread the chapter as she was starting to cast a jutsu at us (had formed a seal) until Iruka stepped in. That is a level of hostility that does not bode well to working as a team.

So you are saying that she should have abandoned her friends and fellow Jonins to take a beating and maybe die, or done nothing at all to at least distract him for a few seconds, or just stayed there and let him beat her without even trying anything at all, or tried to out kunai an Uchiha, cause that would have gone Way better than genjutsu, maybe she could try punching him as well, is not as if the Sharingan does anything at all again that as well, she certainly should not have tried her best techniques because they where the only things that had any chance of working at all, certainly not, I could keep going really.

She did the best she could in a really really shitty situation, and got outdone by what pretty much is a motherfucking master in the field, one that praised her for how well she actually did.

And all that as a newly minted a Jonin in a field that Konoha almost ignores.

She might not be the best option, with that I agree, but for heaven's sake and man, respect her at the very least.

No, I don't respect the retarded. If all she has is genjutsu, she shouldn't be a jounin, she would be a special jounin. Since she's a full jounin, she has other options and she didn't use them.

When fighting Kisame, you don't go throwing ninjutsu around willy nilly, because A) He's going to outlast you, and B) It only going to make him stronger.

So even if you're a ninjutsu type, you change you're approach.

It's the same concept here- you don't attack your enemy where they are stronger and that's exactly what she did. Her enemy acknowleging she has skills is irrelevant to the fact she got lolnoped by using the weakest route she could have gone.

It wasn't playing to her strengths, it was playing to her enemies strengths by not being tactically flexible.

As I said- shit tier.

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

Honestly probably fairly similiar in Daisuke's mind.

He knew Tokei for what, sevenish years, only for the guy who'd been mostly neutral to him suddenly try to outright murder him for wanting to be a ninja? The guy, who guarded him and his mother, protected both of them, and then tried to murder one of his charges and was willing to kill the second to do so?

Now, here comes Mariko, the girl he's also known for seven years, who has constantly and consistently made it clear that she hates him, she hates the people who associate with him, and was even willing to try and attack him in the middle of a classroom. Now, this woman who's shown nothing but aggression and hate for him, is supposed to be someone he trusts with his life?

Like you can see how this is a really fucked up reversal/mirror situation going on right? And how that could be fucking with Daisuke's head right now?

Honestly, I don't know if we CAN change Iruka's mind, the guys got serious blindspots when it comes to his student interactions, and I don't doubt that colored his reports to the Hokage and Jonin Sensei. He probably thought Mariko and our problem was some petty classroom thing we'll grow out of in the field, he doesn't get that Mariko legit fucking hates us, and I don't think we can make him see that. I don't care though, we should atleast try, because frankly this team is either going to outright fail anykind of Team Test, or someone's going to wind up dead on a mission.

Yeah, I get you.

You know who I feel sorry for right now? Kiba. He didn't deserve or ask for any of this. Either he'll be dumped into the Genin Pool or he'll have to deal with Mariko trying to attack us constantly and all(and maybe play mediator) through no fault of his own beyond helping us with out History presentation.

On over hand... why not? Katsuragi repeatedly pick choices what directly fuck up thread choices. I d say they have a reason to complain.

I think Kastu's biggest mistake might've been pushing genjutsu as hard as he did, but every other choice he made didn't actually effect us much and you were all cheering him on when he did.

Bigger than the guy who tried to kill us?

Yes. Considering Tokei was doing his job as a Samurai, that's explainable from a Meta and OOC perspective. Try explaining Mariko's unjustified hatred and overreactions to our presence and the fact that she was willing to cast a jutsu/genjutsu on us in the middle of class and on a prospective fellow Konoha-nin from a Meta/OOC perspective. As such, she's a much bigger threat to us. Plus, Tokei is dead and can't bother us for the rest of our genin days unlike Mariko who can and will if we're stuck in the team with Kurenai, provided we pass her test. I wouldn't trust my back to her in the field right now.

Is the GM want to get us kill with Kurenai as teacher?
I don't think much about Mariko even Sasuke can getting killed if you have Kurenai as teacher.

First off, we are a ninja now. Not some whiny, snot nosed kid that can go to his teacher and tell him they are wrong and to put us on a different team. We need to suck it up and try to make it work. As a ninja of Konoha we won't always have the luxury of liking those we work with. That comes with any job. That goes for Ino too. She is our friend, but Shika and Choji will take care of her. And going to Iruka won't change anything but him telling us the obvious, to suck it up because the Hokage and the other Jounin and Academy staff approved of these team placements.

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

Now, regarding this

She also only just became a jounin, making her one of the worst to teach us. She's also so fucking stupid she tries genjutsu not only on an Uchiha with an active Sharingan, but Itachi uchiha.

Frankly, she's shit tier.

We just got fucking robbed.

So we get screwed over with the least competent jonin who is only competent in the area we need the least help...whelp that blows.

Ves already cleared this up before.

Quick note on this: in VesQuest, to be a jounin, at least a Konoha Jounin, you have to be more then good. 'Good' is for SpecJo. A full-fledged Jounin is a master of many skills, a leader of the village, and is such a certified badass that they have an actual certificate that they have to keep nailed to a wall less it try and fight other, lesser paperwork. Any Jounin is incredible. If one's known as a Genjutsu specialist, that just means their Genjutsu is terrifying, not that any of their other skills are less so.

So expect Kurenai to be more than she was depicted in the anime and manga. She is going to have great skills in all areas of being a ninja, with a specialty in Genjutsu. She isn't a bad teacher. Her taijutsu and genjutsu are still leagues above our own. These arguments seemed to be based on a different interpretation of what Ves views a Jounin as.

Yeah but I don't like her specialty, or... ours for that matter, because of you.

...really.

If it's not a spoiler, would it be possible to get an interlude showcasing the reasoning behind Daisuke's team makeup?

A not so gentle reminder to people who seem to not read.

The apparent competence of whoever chooses the teams has apparently reached shit-tier if they think someone that attempting to attack us in the classroom with a jutsu is considered a good fit for a team. We need to report this, it needs to be on record that she attempted to attack us in class, and that we feel we cannot trust her with our life in the field because of her actions. Even if it wont change anything we need to make sure our concerns are noted as being legitimate concerns and not just childish, 'but we don't like her' which they would rightly tell us to suck up.

Throwing chalk at someone's head might not be an actual attack, but it isn't really something you should do to someone whom you know doesn't like you without expecting them to retaliate.

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.
To live, one has to adapt. Bad team dynamics might actually lead to death, so getting right into the correct mindset is needed here for self protection if nothing else.

.
There is a difference between disliking someone and worrying abut them stabbing you in the back. One can still work with them the other is asking to have your throat slit in the middle of the night as you sleep.

Well, this put a major damper on my excitement... I genuinely don't find either of our teammates interesting as characters, or am all that excited for our jonin. Still, gonna stick around and see if maybe Ves can make something out of this.

I didn't know that Ves was Kishimoto? What does Kishimoto's interpretation of Kurenai have to do with Ves', who we haven't seen?
