Hmmm, okay. What about the same, but only for deliberately releasing genjutsu? So a Kai would still give the game away, but Daisuke dropping the genjutsu after it's done its job and before the enemy realises there might be one would hide the fact that there had been one in the first place? It's a lot less combat-relevant, but still lets us subtly fuck with people.
I have already made my points about it earlier but I will reiterate them here. Taijutsu is a skill that works when all other options fail. If we are disarmed we can use Taijutsu to compliment our genjutsu. If we can't use genjutsu then it gives us additional options when forced to rely on Kenjutsu alone. It opens up opportunities to learn the gates and other techniques. Which can be a massive force multiplier when used correctly.
It gives us an edge that people are not expecting once we reveal just how skilled in Genjutsu we really are. It is one of the only skills the Sharingan can't replicate unless they have similar physical attributes. It also happens to be the first combat skill we really dedicated our focus too.
Seeing how that is can anyone with exp be willing to consider putting in another 50 exp? I believe that is all it would take to boost it to the next rank. Once we make it equal to our kenjutsu we can try to purchase the blending of styles perk which gives us a bonus for using both skills at the same time.
From that point, it should be able to be raised on its own since it is paired with kenjutsu. Meaning we can focus our experience into attributes to make both Ken and Taijutsu more potent as well as give ourselves another solid tool that pairs well with our genjutsu that we can use while being discreet.

Daisuke cooking for ino/manami/hana/Naruto/ichirakus
Daisuke as bunshin no Daisuke like Shisui was the shunsin no Shisui
POV of inoichi on daisuke's situation recently
"This is good tea, Satomura-san." Inoichi said, as he politely sipped on his tea.
"Thank you, Inoichi-san. I'm glad you approve. It's one of my favorites."
"Mm." They settled into an uncomfortable silence after that. They didn't really run in the same circles, but due to the close friendship of their offspring they had decided that they must surrender to the inevitable and spend time getting to know one another.
"So...read anything interesting lately?" She asked, grasping for appropriate topics.
"In fact, I have." He smiled. "A treaties on the political situation over the past generation in wave country."
"Ah." Not a topic that she had much to say on.
"You?" he recognized her lack of interest in the topic and reached to fill the soon to be void.
"That new romance book out of the capital is quite good."
"...Ah." They both sipped their tea in silence for a bit.
"Actually, you say it's good?"
"Surprisingly." she says, mildly curious as he chose to pick the topic back up.
He looks a bit sheepish. "I'm afraid I don't really connect with Ino's interest in such things. So I'll take that as an endorsement to procure it for her."
She nodded, a smile coming to her own features. Their children, of course! "Well, I've seen some of the other things that she read while her and Daisuke are relaxing. It should fit right in."
"They do...spend quite a bit of time together."
"Indeed."
"They spend more time around here than around my place. Have you noticed...is there anything I should be concerned with?"
She considered that for a few moments before realizing what he was asking and chuckled. "Oh, no no. Nothing like that. I wouldn't be worried about that for a few years, at least." A sip of tea. "I had Gai give him the talk."
He nearly chokes on his tea, exactly as she had timed. It takes a few minutes to get himself under control. "As a man, I can't say I approve...as a father, I must say that was a fantastic idea. Much to my dismay, I lacked such an...option for Ino's talk."
"She's a responsible young woman, you don't have anything to worry about there."
"Thank you very much, Satomura-san. You're own son is...a very driven young man."
She lets that sit for a moment before a glint enters her eye. "Driven hm. I suppose that's not inaccurate." Her look turns somewhat accusatory.
"Yes." he replies, not noticing the look. "Just like my Ino. He's a good influence there. I don't know if she'd be taking rookie of the year without him."
"She won't be taking it at all. It's clear that Daisuke is the best Genin in his class." She replies primly.
He snorts. "Best at hitting things with a stick, maybe. Ino's got him beat hands down when it comes to Ninjutsu."
"Oh, I'm sure she does. Not everyone can take the appropriate care of their bodies. All of those silly little diets she goes on, I'm surprised she has the energy to spar with Dai at all."
His teeth audibly grind as he sits his cup down firmly and leans in. "And I'm surprised your son finds any time at all in the day to train with all of those fan girls he has demanding his attention."
She sits her own cup down and leans in angery. "Oh, jealous he's more popular than Ino?"
"Hardly. I just don't know why my daughter wastes so much time on someone clearly not worth hers."
"Why, you." She growls. "You should be thanking Daisuke for being so kind as to take your daughter under his wings rather than letting her just be another mediocre student."
"You...you harlot."
"Neanderthal!"
There's footsteps beyond the door leading outside, and they both quickly sit up straight, just barely getting themselves under control and resuming sipping their tea.
Ino and Daisuke walk in a moment later.
"Daddy, are you enjoying yourself?"
"Yes dear." He says with false cheer and a less than false smile. Ino just grins wide while
Daisuke looks briefly suspicious at the two of them. "Mother?"
"Everything is just fine, dear." She says, too coldly, but Ino misses it.
"Good, I'm glad you two are getting along so well together!" She clasps her hands in front of her. "We really should do this more often. How about you and Daisuke come over for dinner tomorrow?"
"Oh. Uh." Manami reaches.
"I'm afraid that won't be an option dear. I have...an important meeting to attend."
She tilts her head slightly to the side. "I didn't know about this."
"Yes, well. I just found about it earlier today. It hasn't come up yet."
She frowns lightly. "Well, ok. I guess Ms. Satomura can just come have tea with mom while me and Dai do some training."
"That..." Inonichi begins...
"Sounds like a wonderful idea dear." Manami replies cheerfully, hiding the smirk she tosses at Inoichi from the kids with her teacup. He barely holds back a frown in response.
"Yes. Wonderful." He sits his glass down. "Well, thank you for your hospitality, Ms. Satomura, but we really should be getting home."
"But daddy..."
"No buts, Ino. It's time to go home."
She pouts and sticks her tongue out at him, but follows along behind him to leave anyways.
Yeah, I honestly think we might be a peer or above to Kurenai in pure genjutsu skill, though she probably has more techniques. It was stated that she's a new jonin, so it's unlikely she has anything beyond Elite. She may not have anything Elite depending on what Elite is*?
It's not like Kurenai is very strong or anything, but it's still exciting to reach Elite in a skill. Our taijutsu is still laggardly, but at least we have a new source of power?
*I'm not sure what "Elite jonin" would be. Is it beginning Kakashi (experienced operator with a bunch of missions, but not Kage level) or something like Shippuden Neji (newly promoted jonin)? Kakashi and Zabuza are pretty much above the likes of Kurenai, but I wouldn't call them Kage level which is the next skill rank after Elite.
We're a peer to her in sheer skill, but not in experience or number of techniques. Hell, did we even learn how to break out of genjutsus? We probably don't have her level of perception either to really make or break genjutsus since the only one we have is pretty much a 1 person target, nothing like the genjutsu the mist kids pulled off against Team 7+Kabuto in the Chunin Exams(Though I doubt Kabuto the Master Spy was fooled for a second) for example.
And Elite Jounin is simply a Jounin who's been around for years and has truly mastered all or nearly all their skills. They're basically Jounin, but better. The Elite of the Jounin, hence the title, "Elite Jounin". Kurenai certainly wouldn't be Elite Jounin seeing as she's newly minted at the time of Canon, but she is the undisputed Genjutsu Mistress of Konoha, hence her skill at and genjutsus are on the Master Level.
Itachi was probably Master or Legendary, and Naruto was not able to dispel one of his not-sharingan illusions. Maybe an average chunin can't dispel them already.
When was that again? He couldn't even break through the false clone/hologram/whatever that was in the Gaara arc where Itachi and Kisame held both teams off for a few minutes to complete the extraction. He had to rely on Chiyo and Sakura to break him out.
Yeah, but Master is stated to be the level at which the Kages are at, and I really don't think Kurenai is Kage level anything.
Plus, she's a new jonin, and if she has Master Genjutsu Kakashi should be Master level in Ninjutsu at least, which he is not until Shippuden imo.
I know that skills don't reflect actual Rank, but I don't think Kurenai has any feats reflecting a level of skill that can match the Kage. It could be that the Leaf doesn't really specialise in genjutsu, which is why she's the best user around?
E: I know that a skill at that level doesn't mean overall strength at that level, but we still shouldn't hand around Master Ratings to just anyone. I don't think Mei or Ohnoki would exceed Master in ninjutsu, and those are probably the benchmark we should use.
More like she's a Master at Genjutsu in canon but her skills elsewhere were below where they should've been for a while, hence the newly minted Jounin part.
Believe it or not, but Genjutsu is the most demanding style and art of the 3 main ones(Fuinjutsu being the esoteric option). You have to have incredibly good eyesight, senses, and perception to be able to catch a whole entire scene at a glance at least in order to replicate it properly, you've got to be able to think of how things will look from the enemy's POV(Hard thing to do since you never really sure what they notice and what they don't), you've got to pt the genjutsu on them stealthily(Also hard because some people are sensors, which are somewhat rare but still a worry, and some just can tell when they've fallen into a genjutsu by invading chakra), you've got to choose the appropriate genjutsu, etc... and sometimes sheer instinct/dumb luck will make it all for naught.
It's that demanding, so I would have no problems in believing that she dedicated most of her career to genjutsu and became a Master of genjutsu at Chunin and then forcibly dragged the rest of her skills up to the minimum Jounin level in canon just in time to become newly minted and Team 8's sensei.
Also, I noticed you said that Mei and Oonoki aren't ninjutsu masters(What, A is? Or Gaara, whose ninjutsu is literally all about the sand and nothing else?). They're Kages with limited screen time man. And they're Kages. Of course they are. Plus, Oonoki survived against Madara in his youth. They're simply best at using their Kekkei Genkai/Kekkei Tota respectively.
He can mass cast it over the whole stadium even in part 1, and in part 2 when he massively powered up he caught Edo Itachi and Sasuke in one that they had to spend significant effort breaking (though Itachi is the overall superior user of genjutsu; he was able to mind control Kabuto right back even as an Edo Tensei).
Comparing how Kabuto was able to trap both Edo Itachi and Sasuke in a genjutsu while Kurenai didn't approach Itachi at all, I think that it's more likely she's Elite and Kabuto is Master.
You do know that genjutsu was an AOE genjutsu, right? Not Kabuto stretching a single person genjutsu into an AOE one right? And it was only really effective against the civilians and the genins? And Kabuto cheated by integrating Tayuya's DNA(Just like he did with Orochimaru for Sage Mode) in order to pull off that genjutsu and playing the flute constantly since the Sharingan doesn't work against auditory illusions. Shikamaru won the same way by getting Tayuya to stop playing the flute and then coming closer to finish him off. Kabuto certainly knows how to use Genjutsus, but it's not his highest level. That would be his medic skill in body modification and the like, which enables him to take advantage of his other skills better.
Well, vote wasn't close, and I wanted to get this update out. So.... vote closed. And here!

"I think," you say slowly and carefully, picking each word the same way you would pick a kunai from a discount vendor, "that we're not ready to fight or steal anything important yet. And we definitely will not get anything time sensitive until we're more seasoned. But it'd be silly not to use us where we're best."
"So….?" Ino drawls, nudging you in the side. "What're you thinking?"
You shrug. "I"m not sure. Maybe there's this, I don't know, war beast? Something big and dangerous that the village needs captured. And we have to get it!" Despite your reserve, you can feel your imagination running away with you. You can see it in your mind's eye: you and your team- Ino and Jabari of course- hunting down a beast of war that looks just like a dinosaur for some reason and subduing it with your powerful skills. "And after we get it, we'll have to present it directly to the Daimyo! Only he would know how to best utilize such a weapon, right?"
Your friends nod in agreement, but perhaps no one is as solemn in their nod as Ino's mom. She's looking at you all with the a very serious expression that only comes into being when the person wearing it is trying very hard not to laugh. You're not sure why; sure, you may be hyping it up a little too much in your head, but the idea itself is sound!
...why does it still feel like you're forgetting something annoying?
But you can't dwell on it for too long. With the emergency over, Inoichi is back at the restaurant in minutes, and the party wraps up soon after. You're all sent on your seperate ways with a reminder to still show up to turn in your official paperwork before Monday, when you'll be meeting at the Academy for team assignments.
As always, the day ends with you walking Ino home. She throws her arm over your shoulder like normal and almost skips as she walks. "Thanks for coming tonight!" she says. "It still would've been great if you hadn't, but you coming made it way better."
You nod in response. "It was fun," you answer. "After I was done carrying things of course."
Ino chuckles and blows a strand of hair out of her eyes. "Please," she jibes. "You know you love it. And if you don't, I'll make you soon. You're going to be carrying all sorts of things on missions for me after all!"
A shrug is all you can answer with. "Maybe by the time we're on missions together you'll be more willing to carry your own things."
"Why would I do that?" Ino asks. She seems perplexed. "I mean, it's not like I'm going to get tired of you carrying my stuff over the weekend!"
"Over the weekend?"
"Yeah. I mean, team assignments are Monday. And we're obviously going to be put on the same team! So get used to carrying my bags, Dai old buddy old pal!"
You give her a long look. "Um, Ino?" you ask. "I'm actually pretty certain we're not going to be on the same team."
Ino stops short. "What?!" she almost yelps. "That's insane! Why wouldn't we be on the same team?!"
"Well," you say slowly. "We're two of the top three students in class. If they're trying to balance the teams it would make a lot more sense for us both to get weaker teammates." There are more reasons, but none that you really want to say while Ino has her arm over your shoulder. It's a position that can easily change into a headlock if she's displeased by something.
"All the more reason for us to get teamed up!" Ino fires back. "They could put us on harder missions right away! And we work like really well together! Like scary good! It'd be stupid for them not to put us together!"
You're pretty sure she's wrong. "It'd be awesome," you allow. "But just don't get your hopes up, alright?"
Ino shakes her head, slapping you upside the face with her ponytail. "It's not getting my hopes up! It's just common sense! Now hurry up and take me home! The faster I get to sleep, the faster I get my paperwork done! And the faster that's done the faster we can get to doing awesome missions!"
You sigh, but do as she asks, walking her to her door and bidding goodnight to the Yamanakas in short order before making your way home. You spend the next few days doing something you don't do too much of: taking it easy. Sure, you take the time to fill out your official registration paperwork and turn it in at the Tower, but aside from that you don't do much that's strenuous at all. Just some light training, focusing mainly on your draw speed, and a few tweaks to Endless Sword that take up about seventeen hours. Barely anything at all.
Monday morning finds you back at the Academy, sitting in your usual seat between Ino and Yui, waiting for the rest of the class to trickle in. They do so slowly, by themselves, in groups, or in pairs. Each newcomer gets a greeting and another round of congratulations by Iruka-sensei- who is not looking good. It looks like he got into a fight with a trio of weed whackers in between Friday and today. And he's alone, which is strange in and of itself. Mizuki-sensei's normally lounging around somewhere. You wouldn't have thought he would miss this for anything.
But that's not the only strange thing. No, what's more bizarre is that sitting in the back row of the class is one Uzumaki Naruto, bouncing up and down eagerly. Huh. You had thought he'd failed. You've got a few other memories about him being an actual ninja, so you knew he'd pass somehow, but it's still a surprise to see him there- with a headband proudly displayed on his forehead to boot.
You don't comment on it, but you're not the only one who noticed. To your surprise it's Shikamaru who takes the initiative. He comes in, spots Naruto, and trudges over to him. "Yo Uzumaki," you hear him say. "You do know this is only for students who graduated, right?"
In answer Naruto snaps his thumb against his headband, causing a clang to echo through the room. "Yeah!" he says. "And I graduated! See?"
Shikamaru waits for more, but when Naruto doesn't say anything else, he just shrugs. "Whatever," he replies, and drops into his seat between Naruto and Chouji.
"Huh. So he graduated," Sakura mutters to Jabari. "How did that happen?"
Whatever Jabari's answer would have been, you don't get a chance to hear it. Iruka-sensei stands up and calls for your attention. "Once again," he states, "I would like to congratulate you all on passing your final exams and becoming full fledged shinobi of Konoha! It's not an easy task to accomplish, but each and every one of you sitting here did it!"
"But," he continues. "Graduation is only the beginning! Now that you're all officially genin, you will be assigned in teams of three to a Jounin Instructor who will serve as your team leader and further your education as ninja! Treat your Jounin as you would treat me! Each and every one of them is one of Konoha's best, and they will do their best to make you one as well!"
"Now, when you hear your name, find your teammates! After all teams are announced you'll be given some time to eat and talk with your new team. Eat quickly though! Your time ends when your sensei arrives to collect you!"
"Now, let's begin. Team One: Tao Itsuo, Eguichi Fuki, Ito Tobio! Your sensei is Tenmondai Kabemori! Dismissed!"
On and on Iruka-sensei goes, listing your classmates and dismissing them. With each group, the room gets less and less crowded but somehow more and more tense as those still waiting get closer and closer to the edge of their seats.
It's not till Team Seven that things get interesting. "Team Seven: Uchiha Sasuke, Hyuuga Hinata, Uzumaki Naruto! Your sensei is Hatake Kakashi! Dismissed!"
Huh. You're pretty sure that Hinata wasn't on Team Seven back in the original story. So how did she end up there this time? Maybe your existence knocked her grades down a little? Whatever the case, the girls seems to be near fainting, as per usual. Naruto looks outraged to be on Sasuke's team- dodged a bullet there- and Sasuke looks… Sasuke-ish.
"Team Eight," Iruka-sensei continues, "Aburame Shino, Haruno Sakura, Hiruma Jabari! Your sensei is Inuzuka Gaku! Dismissed!" And that's definitely new. Who the fuck is Inuzuka Gaku? At least Sakura and Jabari seem happy enough with their placement.
"Team Nine! Koizumi Shinsuke, Shirai Kairi, Yoneda Unagi! Your sensei is Shimizu Akon! Dismissed!" No real thought on that one. Good thing you avoided Kairi though. You're not sure you could have handled her watching you at all times.
But the pool of teammates is getting dangerously small. There are only three teams left to be announced by your count, most of your friends and some people you'd rather avoid still in the running. You're starting to get a little nervous.
"Team Ten! Akimichi Chouji, Yamanaka Ino, Nara Shikamaru! Your sensei is Sarutobi Asuma! Dis-"
Iruka-sensei's words are cut off by Ino's angry yell. "The FUCK?!" she roars. "How- why- I- No! That doesn't make any sense!"
Iruka-sensei shakes his head in disappointment. "Ino-chan, you should know that you won't always get put on assignments with your very best friends. Instead you'll get put where your skills are most useful. And that's-"
"Bullshit! My skills are-"
"Yamanaka Ino," Iruka-sensei intones. "These teams were composed by your academy teachers, ratified by the jounin instructors, and approved by Hokage-sama himself. Do you think you know better than Hokage-sama?"
There's really no way to answer that. Ino just sputters, and you take the opportunity to pull her back down to her seat. "It'll be alright," you mutter. "It could be much worse. I mean, Shikamaru and Chouji are solid guys! And at least you weren't-"
Iruka-sensei takes advantage of the interruption by speeding through the rest of the teams. "Team Eleven: Satomura Daisuke, Yokota Mariko, Inuzuka Kiba! Your instructor is Yuuhi Kurenai! Team Twelve: Shinsato Ren, Hazakura Yui, Fujiwara Hibachi! Your instructor is Nara Reina! Dismissed!"
His words are rushed, as if he knows what they're about to unleash. And sure enough, Ino's cry is echoed."The FUCK?!"
It comes from you. It comes from Yui. It comes from Jabari, and Sakura, and Ino again. And most especially, it comes from Mariko, who is purpling with rage. "I am not going to be on a team with that guy!" she roars.
Iruka gives her a level look. "Do I need to remind you who made these teams once again?"
Again, the protests die. But this time the class doesn't remain in it's seats. Ino storms off, not meeting anyone's eyes. Mariko sits in the back of the room, glaring daggers at the back of your head. Shikamaru… well, he looks like nothing of note has happened. And as for you…
Fucking Mariko. On your team.
How does Daisuke handle this news?
[] There must be some mistake. Go talk to Iruka-sensei now, and try and change his mind! He's always listened to you in the past before. This time will be no different.
[] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.
[] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

Daisuke's war on squirrels may have faded as he entered the Academy, but it will never end. Today, he plots his greatest attack: a strike on their central tree!
Naihara Umo, personal secretary to the Daimyo of Iron and his personal lady of whispers, has a file on one Satomura Daisuke. It's time for her to review it once more.
Uchiha Sasuke lost a fair fight. He's... not entirely sure how to handle that.
The last edition of this year's student newspaper is about to be published. Secret Head Editor Shirai Kairi wants to make sure it's one to remember.
This was everyone's graduation night, and so everyone celebrated. But not everyone had a party and shopping spree. How did others in Daisuke's class celebrate their new advancement?
Jabari and Sakura are familiar with each other by now. But Shino? He's a complete unknown. This teambuilding thing is going to be hard.
Yui expected many things from her team. Ren was not one of them.
Why were these teams constructed? The Hokage has his reasons.

This is not a good luck for teams, two people that will not get along with one of them (Mariko) that is actively pushing it. I get why Kurenai, our genjutsu is very good, so this mess up is at the feet of @Katsuragi
