Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

...You do realize just how fragile Bunshins are right? Just a simple swish of a hand and it bursts. So if you're overlaying your bunshin over youself and doing different handsigns than the bunshin, that would pop the bunshin because of the different hand, wrist, and elbow movements, and then the enemy sees you in the middle of preparing a different technique and make the appropriate defensive action.
Oh yeah. Forgot about that. When I saw they were intangible in the wiki, I thought they'd be more useful than that.

Of course, standing still does cede advantage to Sasuke, and I know I probably don't remember all his beginning tricks or if he'd keep anything in reserve. A possible alternative might be to take advantage of his lack of knowledge on the Straw Men. Using a kawarimi to abruptly close distance isn't unheard of after all, but it is limited in that it needs to replace with an existing object. Objects that Sasuke is sure to keep aware of and not too close to. Too bad the Straw-men don't have to exist until they do. It may be a temporary surprise, but if we can 'replace' close enough to engage while Sasuke is still reacting to the unexpected manuver (or even better, looking to where conventional Kawarimi targets would be after he sees our hand-seals), then we can blitz up close and take him down before he can recover.
Honestly, I don't think we should underestimate him. Sure the fireball looked slow in the anime. But that's in comparison to a Jounin. We're at sasuke's level, so expecting letting him blast us and expecting us to come out of it unscathed is unwise I'd think.

There's also the fact that since we exist. We've been pushing Sasuke harder to excel and maintain his top spot. So we should probably tick his abilities to be 1 tier higher than canon to be safe.

If he's not as good. Great, but if he is, at least we'll be prepared for it.

Depending on how long we have to write I should be able to get another omake or two done. Though I have to wonder were to put the exp in for jutsu wise. Kawarmi for better use or endless sword for a lower cost of chakra. Either way saskue probably has the fireball jutsu mastered.

No, he didn't.

I don't want anything longer than a split second.

No, you're little *hint, hint* thing was showing you wanted full-on phantom limbs. That's just shifting goalposts.

I've long suspected that it's Tuberculosis, AKA the one true "Coughing up a lung" disease.

That was was the other theory mentioned in the comments, yeah. But a lot of the signs in Naruto showed it wasn't just TB.

Oh yeah. Forgot about that. When I saw they were intangible in the wiki, I thought they'd be more useful than that.

They're intangible in the sense that they're mostly see through unless you're really good at them and the fact that they're a thin shell of chakra filled with empty air. They're not intangible like Obito's Kamui bullshit.

[X] Plan Beta

Until someone comes up with a better plan, this one hits all the right notes when it comes to generally dealing with Sasuke... Though I would add a couple notes like mixing it up with Confusion, and maybe Nausea or Vertigo if we feel like being obvious, for personal preference. Inciting him to get angry and reckless is well and good (it's how we kicked his ass all those years ago) but instilling confusion will make him mess up even more, dulling his wits so he can't come up with counters properly.

[x] Plan Geedubs
- Use our Dummy-Summons as a way to move around the battlefield - dodging, moving into new positions, etc - via Kawarimi
- Endless Sword should be used only as a counter to Great Fireball/any other big jutsu Sasuke pulls out, or as a 'sure to hit, possibly finisher' move
- Fake ToD casting as some people suggested, mixed in with some real ToDs ocassionally - save our ability to cast ToD via things other than our fan for when its really needed and/or as a pseudo-trump card in the second half of the fight
- Try to keep in mid-range when its not possible to get in close so that, at the very least, Sasuke won't have the advantage when we don't have it
- Obviously, take full advantage of our taijutsu & kenjutsu giving us short-range superiority when we can

Alright, so apparently my cunning plan of using Bunshin as ToD decoys has the slight problem of actually being impossible No sweat, I got this!

I don't got this. Pop Goes the Weasel is a solid enough CQC plan, so mine would probably end up basically looking the same now. On the other hand, @Nalanaya has inspired me with his ideas. So here comes a completely different plan which turns this into more of a battle of attrition/skirmish.

[x] Plan: Skirmish
- Sasuke is an expert in trap-setting and almost certainly expects you to get all up in his face. Start off by playing to his expectations and getting all up in that grill. However, when he eventually disengages, rather than rushing back in, keep your distance. Focus on dodging his attacks while pelting him with the occasional shuriken or Tone of Discord (vertigo/confusion). Every once in a while, throw out a fake Tone of Discord without actually using chakra to try to get him to needlessly disrupt his. Keep him on his toes by regularly feinting in as though you're going to go all out to try to bait out his Great Fireball. If he doesn't contest you closing in on him, take the opportunity to punish him for it. Turn this into a battle of attrition and act more tired than you really are to try and bait him to attack you. If he refuses to come at you, wait until he's either tired or distracted, hit him with a vertigo tone, and surprise him with a Mr. Straw + Kawarimi combo to get into close range behind him out of nowhere and end the fight with an Endless Blade.

[x] Try to get up close and personal with Sasuke and use your superior kenjutsu skills to deny him the breathing room he needs for his more complex techniques. If he does manage to escape you and make some distance, use Tone of Discord with a vertigo effect, then a dummy+kawarimi combo to get back in his face from an unexpected direction. If/when Sasuke loses sight of you, summon a bunshin and hide it, and have it occasionally mimic the noise of your Tone of Discord to get him to disrupt his chakra unnecessarily. Be on the lookout for traps, ninja wire, shuriken tricks, and the Great Fireball. Steadily wear Sasuke down until an opportunity arises, then go all in and try to end the fight decisively.

So, I've seen a lot on plans to try and close distance to Sasuke or the equivalent...but do we have too? Sure Sasuke can bombard freely...until he runs out of ammunition and chakra. And while he and Daisuke probably have similar chakra reserves, and while the Great Fireball is less costly then our Endless Sword, it's still not particularly cheap, nor has Sasuke really pushed it's speed/power/range. More close-to-medium distance, and too slow to get carry out if we can see it and close to disrupt or reverse to dodge. His projectile skill, while superior in quality (and probably more numerous in ammo then normal students would have)...also isn't particularly special. He doesn't have any fancy jutsu to combo it with yet, and his wire skills are still in development and more useful when he has time to set up or a distraction...which won't work in this context or against us respectively (unlike say, Naruto).

Since it's a limited-area spar he can't act with stealth (at least not with a near-peer opponent like us) for an ambush manuver, and his projectiles all have greatly reduced effectiveness (because we can see him, and c + reaction time is much faster then time to hurl a projectile and for it too reach the target at our level).

The biggest problem I can see us having is Daisuke being poor at projectile parrying/dodging even with his focus on CQC since it's not a specific skill we've developed...and I feel that weakness is mitigated somewhat just by the skill all Shinobi show with deflecting 'standard' projectiles and our hidden armor.

Non-standard aren't readily available to Sasuke (doesn't know the jutsu, and doesn't have the right context for wire trickery), leaving only use as a distraction for closing, evading, or Ninjutsu. The former is a bad idea for him, the latter is limited by our sparring area, and the only Ninjutsu he has, the Fireball, isn't quite fast enough to take advantage of an opponent like Daisuke (i.e. one used to Gai training speeds) before we can do the aforementioned close/dodge/nullify.

And in a battle of attrition? Of physical stamina? Sasuke is at a severe disadvantage...one he may not be aware of the full extent of (doesn't see us spar with Gai after all, or the morning 'games', only the lack of exhaustion in basic Academy exercises he himself is above).

All this leaves genjutsu, or blitz tactics...the former of which Daisuke has shown no especial resistance too (though to be frank, I don't know that we actually have any resistance or that Sasuke knows any), while the latter suffers from the same disadvantages of a skilled, armored, only-slightly slower opponent being able to see everything you do and react in far less time.

Of course, standing still does cede advantage to Sasuke, and I know I probably don't remember all his beginning tricks or if he'd keep anything in reserve. A possible alternative might be to take advantage of his lack of knowledge on the Straw Men. Using a kawarimi to abruptly close distance isn't unheard of after all, but it is limited in that it needs to replace with an existing object. can you condense this into a plan

Endless Sword should be used only as a counter to Great Fireball/any other big jutsu Sasuke pulls out

How is the Endless Sword a counter to a Great Fireball?

[X] Plan A
- Try to keep Sasuke in close combat range. Use Kawarimi and Mr Straw if you have to, it will only surprise him once though. Use Tone of Discord when he tries to move out of close combat range. Use Mr Wood if you need to block a fireball, in that case use it in such a way that Sasuke believes that he's hit you and use the opportunity to surprise him. Use the Endless Sword when you think you have a chance to end the fight.

Hana's Ikebana by Dr_Caduceus (canon)
I call this one Hana's Ikebana
Please be gentle

***

Hana considered herself a fair woman. She wasn't one to take advantage of others or put them in awkward positions. But she happened to have an academy student owe her a full day of chores. It was a fair deal and his idea to boot, so when she found herself short handed in the clinic one day she sent Kibas classmate a message telling him to report to her office in clothes he wouldn't mind getting dirty.

He arrived punctually with another bouquet of flowers in hand, the cheeky brat. She still took them though, the place could always use a bit more colour. Not that she didn't plan on teasing him for the gesture though. "Flowers huh? I thought those were just to make my little brother jealous?"

He had the good grace to seem bashful but didn't make a move to retract the gift.

With a small smile he said, "My mother would be most displeased if I came to a woman's house without a gift. In addition, I spend enough time around the Yamanaka flower shop to have picked up a thing or two. Daffodils to demonstrate my respect for your skills and profession and Bluebells for gratitude over you aid."

His voice was smooth and melodic and with those cheekbones Hana knew that he'd be a heart breaker in a few years; if he didn't already have half the girls in his class pining after him. Again she regretted him being so young, she might just blow off today's work all together and take him drinking, but she'd have to settle for making him clean up after animals and fetching supplies for a day.

"Well brat, you may be a smooth talker, but all the talk in the world isn't going to get this work done. So chop chop! You've got chores to do!"

And who knows, if he didn't complain she might even feed him before sending him home. Wouldn't that be a sight for Kiba to see.

***

The sun was setting as Hana locked up her office for the night. Honestly, the kid did alright considering he had clearly never worked with animals before. He was diligent, didn't seem to mind menial tasks, and even seem to have enough first-aid experience to recognize what supplies he was supposed to be getting without much direction. Still, he did a good job and felt that deal or no, it deserved a reward. So before sending him on his way, she gave him a bentou with some rice balls to take home and a peck on the cheek. That Kiba had just come in from training for the day and saw the exchange was a hilarious bonus.

So after watching her little brother chase away her assistant and supposed suitor, Hana decided to find a nice glass of water to put the flowers in. Wouldn't want Kiba to forget the whole thing any time soon after all. As she placed the bouquet in its new home, she noticed something strange. The Daffodils were there in the center surrounded by the Bluebells, just as he'd said, but hidden underneath some of the petals she spied something else. Brushing aside the others, Hana found a White Camellia nestled in the middle of the arrangement.

It'd had been a while since she'd taken an Ikebana class, so it took her a few minutes to place the meaning. When the answer came to her she couldn't help laughing out loud. Forget cheek, the kid had guts to give her this, that's for sure. Placing the flowers on a shelf, she gave the flowers one last glance.

Daffodils for respect, Bluebells for gratitude, and a single White Camellia.

Waiting.

who would be next? We got the same age, now we got older, next is younger? Hanabi?

If you think about it, it's all Ves's fault. He inspired me with the prompt of bringing Hana flowers as revenge over Kiba's mom thing. I just went where the muse took me.

[] Use the sound of snapping your fan closed to induce extreme nausia on those behind Sauske. When they vomit on him, use the distraction to knock him out.

The Fireball itself is fast, but the hand-seals extra-large inhalation, and coned exhalation? Quite a bit slower. While the GFB has been Sasuke's primary focus prior to graduation, he's no where near the limits of it's potential (cutting speed by reducing seals, increasing duration, increasing volume, etc. Plus also him currently having obscured vision while breathing ATM and being left out of breath immediately afterwards), and the only field Daisuke has actually pushed him in is Taijutsu...which he's already leaning away from.

Sure the Uchiha have their own style and advantages in hand-to-hand, but it's heavily tied in to the Sharingan, and Sasuke is clearly a trick/blitz build with Taijutsu being used for finishers or delay tactics. Having a Taijutsu rival might push the Ol' Uchiha pride button, but then again Sasuke is rather distracted by his obsession at this point in time, and the fact that his build is still the same doesn't point to us changing that much. As for his other strengths...we weren't really there until recently. Projectiles are clearly his, as are traps/wires, and Daisuke has only just obtained a non-standard Ninjutsu. Genjutsu he's supposed to be competent in...but he never actually seems to pursue that route (like Itachi did) until the 'awakening' of his Sharingan made it too ease to not make use of.

can you condense this into a plan
Maybe? I was mostly just posting thoughts for the thread. I guess the two plans possible from that spiel would dumb down to something like 'stay on the defensive until Sasuke exhausts himself or changes tactics, react to a GFB by closing or dodging as appreciate unless an Endless Blade is required, then...something? IDK really.'

OR

'Straw-Kawairimi close to Sasuke, preferbly out of his LoS, then close to engage aggressively with our sword to keep him on the defensive, maybe surprise-deflect a (kunai) blow with concealed Kote of the Watchman to set up a finisher'.

I guess those would the points? Maybe some more to include our Sound of Discord, or bluffing it with normal strikes, same for hand-seals (bluffs that is, Sasuke is no sensor and has no chakra-detecting Sharingan. Just forming a handseal with no actual chakra could be a great distraction/bluff, properly timed).

I kinda suck at plan formatting though, so feel free to take anything.

It seems to be green on the quest log. A slightly different shade of green to be sure though. Weird.
