Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

It's worth eventually getting it to Simple, at least, so that we can blend in blandly when we want to.

Appearance not a dump stat in my opinion. None are really. All depends on priorities. Many people base things on how things look. The smart people don't but not a lot of that. First impressions go a long way and if you can follow it up you got a good head start with socializing them.

Yeah, but socialising shouldn't be a super big priority for us compared to survival, so we can safely ditch appearance for now after it reaches Simple.

Being good at social could gets more friends to watch our back. Social is important in a lot of scenarios. Be friendly and appearing the part could get more trainers to survive. Gai is a fighting beast but he isn't best at everything. Get connections too.

We can't rely on connections to be present and watch our back all the time. See the last few updates, where despite our connection with Gai, he couldn't stop Tokei from swording us because he wasn't there to protect us.

In fact, no ninja friends we make can actually be by us 100% of the time since they have missions and lives and shit. It's better to be able to take care of yourself.

Safety is built on first being powerful enough to escape when someone wants to kill you, at least.

If we really need connections, level the other social attributes like charisma or pay cash to get a ninja bodyguard assigned to us.

If there's one thing I have to give Vesvius props for is actually being able to write kids as, well, kids. Seriously, grasping the immature mentality of kids and being able to show that from their foolish pettiness, single-minded stubbornness, innocent rudeness and cruelty, and simple cuteness.

Little bummed that the socialization didn't work out the way we wanted. Instead of integrating ourselves in a group we seem to have isolated Ino. She's mature about it, but it still backfired. In hindsight, the warning about the 6 year old girls thinking we smell should have clued us in that we weren't going to be able to instantly work them over.

Kids are kids. This isn't a Song of Ice and Fire with major politicking. These are little girls who stil

Shyguy makes a convincing case. The old man is is basically walking history, and I'm suddenly reminded of that old Pig-Pen comic strip that had Charlie Brown commenting that the dust he carried could be so old that it could have came from Ancient Egypt in Cleopatra's age and that watching him leave a trail of dust was like watching history.

I'm not sure exactly how politics work in Konoha, but It would be funny to see if Iruka and Mizuki have the guts not to reward the project glorifying the villaige Dictaror Hokage.

Final exam test question:
Who is indisputably the most important person in Konoha: He who shelters us from foreign ninjas who would kill us, and to whom we owe everything we have, including our lives?

1. The Hokage
2. The Hokage
3. The Hokage
4. The Hokage

I OFFER AN OMAKE AS TRIBUTE. This one centered in the Land of Iron.

Kera had been having a rough day. Mom was away, and dad was nowhere to be found. His soup had been colder than normal, and the servants were too busy with something else to heat it back up for him! When it started snowing, the boy's normally upbeat mood had begun to wilt. The uncomfortable emotions he was having right now only served to make things worse. This was the end of the week! It was time when he didn't have those boring lessons! Mom and dad would take him out to do something fun like that time they visited the dogs Hiko had.

Instead all he could do was listen to the annoying quiet, waiting for something to happen. He'd pick up one of the books mom had gotten him, and wait for someone to notice how bored he was. Maybe Tokei would come by and tell him the fun stories about a samurai like his dad, because he was reading a book about them anyway. His stories were so much better than the boring pages, even if the pictures were really nice. As he reached the end of the book, something mom would be proud of, he put it into the shelf and pouted.

Where was everyone?! It wasn't fair that he couldn't do anything right now, and he was being reespons'bl, like mom kept saying he should! Why was it so boring? His eyes moved to the opened door in front of him, probably left like that by some one of the servants. A thought crossed his mind, and in seconds Kera was inside of the hallway, instead of his room. He moved forward, trying to see where mom and dad were. There were so many doors in his house, and some he hadn't even opened! He walked for minutes no, hours, trying to find somebody to play with.

Finally, after what seemed like forever, he heard someone. He plodded forward, coming into range of the voice. It was dad, he could recognize that from anywhere. Kera's pace slowed when he realized his father was yelling, but the thought of going back to his room, and being bored again, kept him moving. He walked to a big door, one mom always said was for the grown-ups only, that just happened to be opened just a little. He shuffled forward, until he could hear dad.

"-she know this is treason?!" Whatever that was, it sounded bad. Like something mom would take away desert for, or worse! Dad's face was scary. It looked like someone had taken his favorite toy, and thrown it in a blizzard. He continued to pace around a big table, trying his best not to look at something small in the middle.

"I would assume so, my lord. She had to sign her approval on the papers. If she didn't, she understands now. " Hey, Hiko's dad was here! He looked angry, too. Probably enough to make Hiko afraid to come over! If it wasn't because he was so bored, Kera might have left at that face, too! He turned to someone the boy couldn't quite see. "Your agent going rogue and trying to kill Manami instead of doing literally anything else to keep this from escalating made that very clear."

"He was meant to guard her, and act honorably. There was nothing else he could have done. Toishi's indulgence has once again come to bit-" The older man's voice was cut off by the sound of dad's fists slamming on the table.

"DO NOT CONTINUE TO NEEDLE ME WITH MY ONE MISTAKE, MIFUNE!" He screamed it at the third man. It took all Kera had not to make a noise at the yelling, but he was smart. They'd find him if he said something, and then he'd be back in his boring room… "I understand more than you'd know how foolish it was, but do not dare disparage what Manami and I had." Dad stressed that word with clenched teeth. He seemed almost sad when he said that. "This isn't about what has happened, it is about what we should do from here."

"So we return to the beginning." Hiko's dad nodded with a grimace. "I would still suggest that we take the most expedient course of action that I have always put forward, and end this farce before it truly begins. All it will take is one word, and it shall be done. You will not have to worry about this becoming more of a problem than it is."

"That you would suggest to murder a child because he chose a better future for himself is something I will not stand." The third man responded with a sharp tone. "What Tokei did was understandable in the purview of his mission though I am glad, on some level, that he failed. I will not be any party to such an act. He is innocent of all this. Manami was the one who made a conscious choice, rather than a kid who had no idea what he was doing."

"I will not have a hair on her head harmed. She can live with her own mistake, until she learns what she forsook for her foolish attachment to that boy." Dad looked like he wanted to spit on the floor. "And the child will be, if he is not already, a member of the ninja academy. Attacking him now would only start a war." Hiko's dad shook his head.

"I could make it look like an accident, a robbery gone wrong. I know it is distasteful, but Manami and your son are our enemies. It would risk a war, but anything is better than a guaranteed succession crisis if Prince Imagawa's bastard brother." Kera froze at that last word. He had a brother?! But Hiko and Tokei kept telling him that only the coolest people had brothers. That meant he was as cool as them, yes! He was almost shaking at the news, but he kept quiet, trying to listen in.

"No. Mifune is right. We can't afford a war right now, and the thought of hurting her still hurts. That does not mean, however, that she will not be punished." Dad moved to the end of the table, and picked up a quill. "As of now, Manami and Daisuke will be officially banished from the Kingdom. Should they enter while I still draw breath, they shall be treated as enemies of the state, and killed on sight. She chose her path, and now she will learn to live with it. Hiro, send it to her in Konohagkure." Dad said it like he did when Kera asked for a puppy. Whatever this was, it was serious business. He started to walk back, burning the words in his mind.

Brother. Dai-su-ke. Ko-no-ha-ga-ku-re.

If Hiko and Tokei didn't believe his claims about having a brother, then he'd find him! He walked away, the thought of their jealous faces as he revealed his secret sibling adding a skip to his step.

He wished some days were half as exciting as this!

Okay, that was actually really good in terms of expanding the world and hopefully getting Daisuke to meet his brother.

I was really torn between this and the Hokage one, in the end though, anyone could choose to write about the Hokage, it's pretty much going to be the default choice for anybody who has no idea what to write, and while I am reasonably sure we could write the best assignment on the Hokage out of the whole class, I think we can do more than that, the story of the Uzumaki and their village is a legitimately important part of the village's history and if well done (which again I am sure we can manage) will probably give us the best grade, I am also interested in seeing Naruto's reaction to learning of his Clan and the butterflies that may come from it.

At least this shows unique thought and doesn't parrot the party line?

i changed my mind, for two reasons.

1) It's honestly hard to say which between this and the hokage is the better argument. It's mostly a traditional vs unexpected/unconventional choice i think, and any of the two could reasonably win if done well. And honestly i don't think we have much to worry from our competion.

Shino might make a good poster, but won't be that good at presenting it. Same for Sakura or Hinata, shy as they both are right now.
Shika simply won't make the effort. Sasuke might make a good one, but i don't think he'll be better than us.
Unless we get a surprise from the OCs, a decent topic from us has really high chances of winning, and both our main choices are decent.

2) I want to gift the poster to Gai, or make a copy of it for him. Even in the unlikely chance we lost, i think the reaction from it would be worth it. Add to this our recent taijutsu rank-up and this might push him to teach us some more advanced techniques,
Also, i think both Gai and his father deserve the recognition. Everyone knows and respect the Hokages. How many remember the humble genin mocked by everyone who, by himself, killed 3 of the 7 mist swordsmen and forced the remaining ones to escape, all while saving his son and his teammates?

The only reason i didn't vote for it in the beginning was that Gai is currently not in Konoha, so we can't ask for more info from him, but this makes it possible to surprise him! Imagine how happy he'd be if we won with his father's story!

Eh, so pretty much a dump stat. That's good, less things sucking our XP.

The way attributes affect interactions is still not 100 % clear, but I'm sure that Vesvius didn't put in a useless stat. I'm fairly certain appearance will have cool effects if we upgrade it.

An example of a high appearance stat, that I can think of, would probably be Sasuke.

Despite his poor attitude, he still had a ton of people fighting for the chance to get his attention and approval (girls most dramatically, but they weren't the only ones affected). That was in part because of his skills, but it was also largely based on his good looks. Not saying it's the best way to play, but I wanted to give one example of how a good appearance stat can allow you to charm others to your side.

For myself, I don't care much about that aspect. I do agree there are other attributes that can be more useful, though I'm not sure we should underestimate its usefulness.

At this point, I tend to view it as a good way to pay homage to mother. She is repeatedly noted to be incredibly attractive and the one mention of our father, notes him as good looking himself. Mostly, it feels like it is narratively appropriate/consistent for Daisuke to have an above avarage appearance.
