Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

What is Hagakko? What is it that would be given up?
just noticed this:

The Small Pond
Sure, you may not know how to throw fire or disguise yourself from your enemies. But you can do long division! And you know what the capital of the Land of Rice is! That's just as good! ...right?
Unlock Condition: Graduate from Hagakko
Reward: ???
Status: LOCKED

even the achievement isn't convinced of his worth :p

We have some updates on our character sheet. Right now our Willpower at Simple (410/800). We need to raise our two other mental stats to Simple to get the Armed in a Battle of Wits achievement. Also, our Constitution is at Simple (730/800) so we're about to hit Above Average.

I think we can get the achievement Academy Student (have 12 skills at 'Practiced', including Genjutsu, Ninjutsu, and Taijutsu) in the next year or so. Right now we have Taijutsu, perception, and perform at practiced and acrobatics, climb, sleight of hand, stealth, swim, linguistics, survival, bluff, and diplomacy at student. We need to get Genjustu and Ninjutsu to practiced and 7 of our skills at student to practiced.
Hey! That's my job! :p

More seriously, that set of skills would be the fastest way to unlock Academy Student Achievement. However, I would suggest working on kenjutsu and shurikenjutsu in order to make progress towards the Sworn in Steel Achievement. My personal preference for skills is kenjutsu, shurikenjutsu, acrobatics, climb, survival, stealth, and diplomacy.

We can work on kenjutsu and shurikenjutsu as well, but I want to get the reward for Academy Student as fast as possible. The reward we got for raising our physical stats was really beneficial for training longer. I suspect the Academy Student reward might help us learn skills faster or something like that.

[X] Yes. Becoming a Shinobi of Konoha?! That's the whole reason you're here! Of course!

Gai's the best hands down genuinely happy about him being our teacher.

GAI SENSEI WE'RE COMING

I don't go around talking to my friends like I was a diplomat, what you want is speech skills, not diplomatic skills. There is a difference between social skills and political skills, at least I assume as much.
Social
Beastmastery: Untrained (020/100)
Bluff: Student (100/200)
Diplomacy: Student (130/200)
Intimidate: Untrained (040/100)
Manipulation: Untrained (060/100)
Perform: Practiced (210/400)
Sense Motive: Untrained (060/100)
There is no speech skill, diplomacy is the closest match.

And the Eight Gates should have more potential than we were shown, they were invented from whole cloth by Gai's dad after all.
The Eight Gates were not invented by Duy - Madara recognises them post-resurrection, so it can be presumed that they were a thing when he was alive.

Also, isn't elevating Guy to the point he could solo Madara for several rounds good enough? The Eight Gates provide probably the biggest power multiplier in the series already. Imagine if we could combine them with Senjutsu and an implanted Sharingan...

I must admit that I'm curious...what would happen if someone used the Eight Gates to train? Like, instead of using the Eight Gates as a berserk mode, could you condition your body to accept being in that state constantly?
This is the process that is done to train to unlock high levels of the Eight Gates. Basically, you use them in battle like you're berserk, and when you privately train them it is like this.

It's noted that Guy's dad basically did this throughout his Academy days, which is why he could unlock all Eight Gates at all.

More seriously, that set of skills would be the fastest way to unlock Academy Student Achievement. I don't really want kenjutsu. It's basically another "hit things" skill, and we already have taijutsu (with a super good instructor) to learn to hit things.

Why not try for something more versatile? I'm willing to ditch the Sworn in Steel Achievement, since kenjutsu takes years to train and is incompatible with our hard-earned taijutsu.

Wait! Wouldn't inventing brand new techniques/jutsus result in unlocking Achievements? I'm unsure where to actually start though, since we don't even have any to use as a basis. Hmm... Would the "game system" acknowledge Fire/Wind/Lightning Clones as already being things?

Put me in the 'didn't realize not becoming a ninja was a possibility and now I'm intrigued' camp.

What can samurai do? Are there any cool samurai tricks that might have good synergies with ninja techniques? Have there been high level samurai who could challenge high level ninjas? From what little I remember of them, they were just cannon fodder against Sasuke.

Samurai basically only have chakra sword usage. Top level samurai are about as strong as a mid-tier S-rank (Mifune lost against Hanzo the Salamander, but Hanzo spared him cause he was impressed with his spirit).

However, they lack the versatility of a ninja and no samurai has been on the level of the truly high S-ranks like Nagato / Hashirama / Tobi.

Manipulation, Bluff, Perform. That combination sounds like a good start.
Diplomacy is the term used in many game systems to describe the skill of convincing people and making good impressions.

I kinda want to lean into the whole from the Land of Iron thing. Plus, a bunch of the Konoha 11 are taijutsu focused. Tenten uses weapons, but mostly of the thrown variety.

If you want to be unique, I'm sure there are better ways than becoming a stereotypical member of Daisuke's country of birth!

There are very few elemental ninjutsu specialists on the Konoha 11, and no Water or Earth specialists. Similarly, there are no genjutsu specialists (Hinata supposedly knows 'em, but doesn't really use 'em much).

There are a bunch of other, more useful things we can spec in to be unique and useful. Shroud our mighty fist in illusions, make the lands quake or whatnot.
