Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

I think this is the better plan you have at the moment. Only problem I have is the reference to the will of fire. I don't think we even know what that is right now. We live in a household with people that are not native to Konoha so they are not likely to mention it either. Better to make a speech about how we will get Mr. Straw back or something along those lines.

Other than that, I think the idea to look for someplace to maybe herd him to that would give us a better reach is a good idea.
Steal and/or edit the original as you wish. Though the mention of the will of fire is deliberately meant to be unexpected and hopefully shocking.

Protag has prior knowledge of Naruto after all, so it's not impossible.

[X] Take the challenge. Treat him like Mr. Straw, analyzing and attacking to strike solid blows instead of flailing ineffectually. Remember to strike and block though, this Mr. Straw fights back. Finally, don't give up. This guy stole Mr. Straw, so he can be Mr. Straw! AND MR. STRAW WANTS TO DIE!

@Hangwind you fool! Have you forgotten Batman's one rule so easily?

This guy has put a lot of effort in helping us, and seems to want to continue helping us. Also, we are ~6 years old, with no education or fighting experience. Our mentor thus shouldn't expect us to show anything like actual combat smarts, yet alone fancy psychological shenanigans. I'm guessing he's looking for us to show something like the following things:
  • Courage
  • Appreciation for his guidance
  • Intelligence enough to apply our work with Mr. Straw to this spar
  • Perseverance
Essentially, qualities that a master would really appreciate in a normal student. No need for prodigy-level stuff, especially since we aren't one. Sure we can try something creative as well, or try to fool him, but I think those are extra, and we should focus on the listed basics.

We are doing pretty good on appreciation and perseverance already. I fully expect him to show us stances that he put Mr. Straw in, so we should probably work to recognize those. Doing that, throwing something creative in, and just honestly working our ass to the ground while not getting depressed or scared, should win us the day.

I started writing this before reading Hangwind's proposal, but with Da Boyz's refinement it seems to fill all these criteria. Maybe add a "thank you" there somewhere.

Man, I can't believe that it was Konoha Batman all along.

Love this update. I like that we can't identify this guy. Adds suspense.

Maybe the extra killing intent will help in this test.

inb4 he's Orochimaru ;)

Anyway, we should consider a strategy for attempting this instead of putting Daisuke on autopilot.

My impulse is to latch on to his legs and not let go - that way, the very large speed / strength difference between us will matter less, as he won't be able to hit us that hard. Ideally we should grab an arm, but that may be too hard. The best moment seems to be when he'd come and attack us.

[X] Try to grapple his leg when he gets close to attack. After this, pinch or tickle him as best as you can to cause a reaction.

[X] you've been taught basic Taijutsu, but some of your more advanced lessons have been about thinking outside the box, using your environment and the like.
-[X] Buy time. Distract Konoha Batman with a speech, maybe toss in a reference to the will of fire for brownie points.
--[X] Use that time to scan your surroundings and look for anything you can use to your advantage. Weapons, unstable ground, openings you can fit through and he can't, etc. Put ALL your lessons to the test, not just direct combat.

[X] Go home. You are undeserving of Mr. Straw, today.

We definitely need to thank this guy though. He spent months training us and monitoring our progress.

I think this might also count as our combat tutorial.

[x] Make a wild guess. Unmasking somebody you've never met before is pointless, so you must be expected to know their face! Maybe?
-[x] The only faces you might recognize here are Tokei and...
--[x] "Sarutobi-sama! Thank you for teaching me, but your disguise needs work!"
---[x] If it's not the transformed girl, the only other face you might recognize is the hokage's! And they share the same name, how convenient for your bluff!
----[x] Right or wrong, hopefully they'll be surprised. Dash in for the first strike!
