I don't think it's a good argument. The witch spawned near the hospital full of innocents (and Sayaka's favourite Kwijibo).
Retreat was not an option.

IC and OOC character knowledge here. IC all we know she died fighting a strong witch, and Sayaka was there, and Homura can somehow be blamed for this but probably not, and QB engineered it. Retreat would seem like a good idea IC.

OOC I'm hoping that other people with knowledge of the situation (Madoka and Homura) may point out Mami's other options (such as being more careful in general, freeing Homura, or retreating momentarily to ask either Sayaka or Madoka to contract and help. Especially as Madoka had just said she'd contract. Of course, we don't want that OOC, but it would have been an option).

Yeeah, sorry about that. Nevertheless, I feel actual sympathy to Homura right now.

If that's the level of emotional ineptitude she deals with on a regular basis, while also being a kuudere who cannot into feelings, then I'm a little surprised she's still ( relatively ) sane.

Also explains why Homura would go "Sayaka Miki is dead, you should forget about her" on Madoka. I mean, this level of... immaturity is downright lethal to a Magical Girl.

If the Witch doesn't get you, your feelings will.

So yeah, my instinct was sort of "punish this stupid behavior with ridicule so that she would shape up". I'll be the first to admit it is n unkind and maybe not the most effective course of action.

But goddamit, Sayaka. Why are you trying to die so very hard?

Think what you want, but I believe Sayaka practically requires someone pragmatic and reasonable who will smack her upside her head now and then.

I am very much against letting Madoka say what she's about to say. She's probably planning to say that she was in the labyrinth with Mami, and that she could have made a contract at any time, and that it's all her fault, waaaaaaah.

I was going to change the vote, but between letting Madoka talk (which guilt trip herself) and calling Sayaka dumb is very insensitive to do for the traumatized girl I can see two options:

Or making Yuma assert control by being cute. And I mean seriously, the idea is being disarming and letting Sayaka confront Mami's death

There's a point at which you have to accept you can't hug all problems into submission and we might have reached it. Let's keep hugging and see what happens.

tbh I find it a bit weird to talk about a series full of pre-teen and teenage at oldest girls who (with the exception of Hitomi potentially) all have a bundle of neuroses and inferiority complex and traumas, and it is the way that these neuroses and complexes and traumas display themselves and clash that really are a key driver of the plot, and criticize any of them in particular for their emotional immaturity.
