The running theory is currently that the ??? means spy, which would make our parents spies from Iwa, Konoha's enemy.

That is way cooler than dumb katana memes.

Why not beat them with our magic? No ninja worth their salt bothers using a blade too much - Sasuke uses ninjutsu for real trump cards, I don't think Kakashi seriously used his sword much, etc.

Kenjutsu is best, combine Kenjutsu with Taijutsu. We aren't from a clan, so our best bet is to be the lovechild of Maito Gai and Gekko Hayate.

I'm not really into swords this time. Don't think we can be as cool as Sasuke with it, so it will look pretentious. OTOH, there is no (almost none) good Earth Release user in Leaf's junior ninja. Why not carve a niche for ourselves there? Hell, the main twelve don't use elemental ninjutsu all that much except Sasuke, so we might try and use multiple elements like Kakashi or Hiruzen (who is pretty badass with his staff too).

Besides, top tier taijutsu like the Eight Gates is superior to kenjutsu users like Kisame*, so why not focus all efforts on taijutsu or ninjutsu alone?

*Kisame remains competitive not because his sword skills are good, but because his chakra capacity (unrelated to swords) is off the charts and Samehada is a good toy. Guy fights Madara with nothing but Taijutsu.

Because Ninjutsu requires some serious reserves, and I don't know if you noticed, but we're not really from a prominent clan...

So, Taijutsu and Kenjutsu combined will obviously be the best. It's what Killer B does.

There's no restriction like that. Clan members don't generally have more chakra than other people (see Shikamaru, or how Ino appears to have same chakra level as Sakura).

Besides, Jiraiya, Orochimaru, Hanzo the Salamander, Konan and a large number of non-clan ninjutsu users show us that one can indeed use ninjutsu at S-rank or higher levels without being a clan member. It really doesn't matter that much whether you're clan born.

You're aiming high if you think we can compete at that level on the first life. We'll see how it goes, but I wanna learn Kenjutsu from Gekko Hayate. Dude is a badass even though he's terminally ill, like Kimimaro except with Kenjutsu.

I personally think it's obvious that those guys are from a clan, just not a known one. Orochimaru's features have to be from a clan, otherwise you'd see tons of abnormal people walking the streets of Konoha.

There are still lots of ninjutsu users even at average levels. Zabuza* uses a lot of ninjutsu like Hiding in Mist technique and Water Dragon, the three genin from Orochimaru's village all use their unique ninjutsu like the sound wave one, Kurenai uses genjutsu etc.

As for Orochimaru being from a clan - if something like Sakura's hair can be a non-clan feature, I don't see why pale skin can't be a non-clan feature. The other stuff like his tongue is probably the Snake Sage's body alterations, like Jiraiya's eyemarks / warts are due to he Toads.

I mean, come on. Ninjutsu is a very basic ninja art, not something exclusive to Ye Olde Aristocracie and people with big cocks good pedigree. There were literally thousands of ninjas who joined to spam Earth Walls and Fireballs and such in the fight with Madara.

*he's pretty much a chump considering high rank Naruto characters. If we can't get to his level by Shippuden despite having the broken Gamer ability character should commit suicide with a block of tofu, since he likely won't survive Ten Tails / Madara / Kaguya with that little power.

It ain't just his paleskin, it's his snakelike features. He has a snake summons, looks like a snake and has many snake themed jutsu.

We'll die waaaay before we get to the Ten-Tails, no matter what. It's bound to happen, the NG+ will let us learn other things, so I say focus on Taijutsu and Kenjutsu.

They're harder to master than Ninjutsu.

He looks like that because he has done several experiments on his body. He looks like a snake because he went and made a deal with a big snake, not because he was born like that. See this.

If they're both harder to master, doesn't it make simple sense to take the "easier" topic of ninjutsu first and gain power? Power will make us have a better chance to survive, and ninjutsu is way more versatile than Ken / Tai jutsu.

Looked at it, didn't see any mentions of it changing his body's appearance.
