...seeing that this choice is rather important, let me try my hand on a few paragraphs.
The choice here, as far as I see it, is pragmatism versus morals.
Do keep in mind that this girl is currently an existence living in constant, mind-shattering agony and would continue to do so. Usually it would have been hundreds of years such a sacrifice saves, but her time is running out already.
One is to leave her be as is; Cerys is obviously not happy with doing so, but would do it to gain a little bit more time. This is not about honouring her sacrifice because Cerys does not think that way; if she does, it will just be a justification for her to stand by and let this girl continue to suffer for very little gain. A girl who she ended up respecting from just hearing about the decision she made.
The other is to put her to rest, to exchange a tiny bit of time for peace of mind and the knowledge this girl got to rest after most of her work was done.
While neither is objectively worse for various reasons, people that vote to walk away should keep in mind that there is nothing honourable in leaving someone just like Cerys to suffer in agony.
Those that vote to end her here have to be aware that it will have consequences also; I am not sure how dire they will be just yet, though there would still be time.
I do remember some people complaining about Cerys having so little compassion to others. Are those the same people voting to suppress her morals right now as well? (Honestly not sure, I did not keep tabs on who says what)
Also, do keep in mind that Gaia must have anticipated something like this to happen. Which means that if she let it come to this, she would obviously be fine with either choice. Assuming that Cerys would bring disaster upon Earth by making the barrier fall early is therefore not a viable counter to this.
tl;dr: Leaving her be would be being pragmatic, mercy-killing her would be doing what is right.
