A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

STAR WARS: THE CHOSEN ONE

EPISODE I
THE PHANTOM MENACE

Turmoil has engulfed the Galactic Republic. The taxation of trade routes to outlying star
systems is in dispute. Hoping to resolve the matter with a blockade of deadly battleships
the greedy Trade Federation has stopped all shipping to the small planet of Naboo.

While the Congress of the Republic endlessly debates this alarming chain of events, the
Supreme Chancellor has secretly dispatched two Jedi Knights, the guardians of peace and
justice in the galaxy, to settle the conflict.

The negotiations never take place. The Jedi Knights rescue the queen and escape the Trade
Federation, but have to make a crash landing on the planet of Tatooine. There, a young boy,
will decide all their fates...

The smell of change hung in the air. It cut through the sweat and grime on your body as you moved seamlessly through the Teras Kasi kata. Nobody else in your family could smell it. No one got the little inklings or hints of what was to come. No one else had the Force. You had learned much from the holocron of Sidrona Diath over the past year. The holocron had started with the Jedi Code. And it was that mantra which filled your mind as your body moved.

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

Your feelings toward the Jedi Code were:

Personality:
[] Respect: The Jedi code had guided the Jedi, and by proxy, the galaxy towards peace and enlightenment.
[] Resentment: The Jedi Code was naive and did not deal with the realities of life.
[] Distrust: The Jedi Code provide a way to live, but was it the best way to live for a force user?
[] Devotion: The Jedi Code guided the Jedi and so it guided you.

You were broken from your thoughts as a punch came flying towards your head. The fist was too quick for your to dodge or block and you went tumbling backwards. Master Zan shook her head and stern eyes glared down at you,

"How many time must I tell you, Anakin? You must focus on your actions, not whatever fanciful imaginations cross your mind. Teras Kasi requires the utmost concentration. Use your aggression to enhance your movements. Control and use your anger, child."

Master Zan was a harsh task-mistress, but you could not deny how much you had learned from her. Your skill in Teras Kasi had grown at a

reasonable rate. Master Zan stated that you might soon be ready for the next level of Teras Kasi training. That said, Master Zan's encouragement to use your aggression left you feeling,

Personality
[] Uneasy: According to the Holocron, Aggression was not the Jedi Way.
[] Focused: Learning Teras Kasi had given you self-control over your emotions and provided a way to let them out.
[] Powerful: To use your aggression strengthened you, and allowed you to dominate Owen in your spars...
[] Helpess: You never liked the feeling of rage coursing through you. It always felt so intense.
[] Write-in: Must be approved before vote.

"Sorry, Master Zan," You nodded. The woman looked at you inscrutably for a moment before asking,

"You seem uneasy today, young Skywalker. Why?"

"Erm," You paused before saying, "I just feel like something is going to change today. Its weird."

"Be mindful of your feelings, young Skywalker. It is impossible to control one's emotions unless one first knows what those emotions are," the elderly woman offered. She offered a rare smile at you, one you had come to associate with a feeling of fear and yet pride. It meant you had done something she approved of, "You have the potential to become the greatest Master of the art in generations. Do not let me down!"

The words left you feeling with a warm glow. Arden Zan rarely gave such encouragement. It meant a lot.

Thwack!

"Back to the kata!"

You deftly guided the speeder over the dunes. Today was market day and so you were driving Cliegg in a speeder to Mos Espa. Your skills as a pilot had grown and Cliegg had even let you take out the Sky-Hopper once or twice. It was such a thrill to be let loose in the sky. Cliegg had taken your gambling money from last year and put it into a savings account. With enough interest accumulating, you should have enough to purchase your own starship by the time you were sixteen!

COMPLETED! Become an Ace Pilot! Gain 5,000XP. Gain 1 Chosen point.
GM Note: I probably should have worked the numbers a bit better. This was too easy for so much XP...but I'm not gonna penalize you guys for it. Congrats :)

The speeder ride was short and soon you arrived in Mos Espa. Cliegg motioned for you to follow after him. The moisture evaporators had been acting one the fritz and you needed parts to rebuild several. You entered the shabby store of the best junk dealer on tatooine; at least...according to him.

"CLIEGG! My favorite moisture farmer eh!" Came the raspy voice of the Toydarian, "And my is that little Ani? You've grown!"

"So has your stomach, Watto!" You giggled. The Toydarian possessed a gruff exterior and was hardly the most honest shopkeeper, but he possessed a soft spot for you.

"Anakin..." Cliegg sighed at your insult, but Watto laughed, "That it has. That it has...and my wallet will keep growing as long as my favorite moisture Farmers are around eh? So what do you need?"

Cliegg shook his head in exasperation, but said nothing. The Lars family had patronized Watto's shop for years.

"Our b732 Evaporator is on the frizt, I need some hydraulic coils to fix them. Got any?"

"Cliegg...I'm offended. You should know by now I have EVERYTHING!"

"Then show me what you got."

The Toydarian nodded and looked at you, "Mind holding down the store front for me, Ani?"

You nodded with a smile and the two walked towards the back. You yawned and pulled yourself up onto the ledge of the counter. Your legs hung limply off the side. And then you felt...it. The Force shifted. Things were about to change. It lasted only for a moment and you looked into the interest and in entered:

1-5= The Tanned Face of a bounty-hunter wearing blue-tinged armor
5-10= A tattooed Zabrak in a black cloak.
11-15= A man wearing a grey poncho, an amphibious looking alien, and an Angel.
16-20= A Korun man wearing dark robes.

a wizened man wearing a greyish poncho, an amphibious looking alien, and the most beautiful girl you had ever seen. You swallowed hard and felt your palms grow sweaty. You barely registered the man ask you a question. You turned towards him,

"I'm sorry, sir, could you repeat that?"

"No problem, young one, I'm looking for the store owner?" You sensed something...off about the man. It took a moment,

but suddenly you realized, this man was a Jedi! You felt your palms grow sweatier, but you kept your voice steady,

"Watto is in the back, sir, with my father," you motioned towards the door which lead to the junkyard. The Jedi nodded at you and looked at the girl and amphibious creature,

"Stay here."

The girl glared at the Jedi, but he appeared not to notice and walked through the door to the junkyard. The amphibious creature had already begun to amuse himself with one of the droids on the shelf. The girl appeared somewhat frustrated and you wondered if there was anything you could say that would help. You

smiled at the girl and said,

"Hi! My name is Anakin. Who are you?"

The girl looked at you and her frustration seemed to fade away. She offered a small smile and offered,

"I'm Padme. It's nice to meet you Anakin. Do you work here?"

"Nope! My dad just buys a lot of stuff from Watto, so Watto lets me run the front desk sometimes."

"That's nice," Padme offered. She seemed lost in thought as if a heavy burden weighed down upon her. You could literally feel the pain flowing off of her. You wished there was something you could do to ease her pain.

She seemed to lighten suddenly and the same small, but beautiful smile lit up her face. You were about to tell her that her smile was beautiful, but Cliegg came out of the opening holding a box with numerous parts. He looked at you and Padme for a moment before saying,

"Sorry to interrupt, Ani, but we need to get this to the speeder..then you we need to do that list for your mom."

You nodded and hopped off counter. You offered Padme a smile and simply said,

"I don't know what's bothering you, but I promise you everything is going to be okay. It was nice to meet you, Padme!"

She seemed speechless and you rushed off after your step-father, not waiting to hear her reply.

Completed Ambition: To Meet an Angel! (750 Experience Points. 1 Chosen Points)

You examined the fruit carefully. There were few things that irritated your mother more than bruised fruit. Suddenly, you sensed the presence of the Jedi next to you. YOu glanced to your side and offered a smile. He had a worried look on his face.

"Hello again, I'm Anakin."

"Nice to meet you, Anakin," the Jedi smiled, "I'm Qui-gon Jinn. You seemed to make quite an impression on Padme. She was quiet for a whole thirty minutes after we left the shop."

A blush rose to your cheeks and you felt embarrassment stir in your gut. The man simply chuckled and looked at the fruit. You tilted your head at him,

"She seemed troubled...as do you? Is there anyway I can help."

Qui-gon looked at you for several moments as if in deep thought before shaking his head, "I'm afraid not Anakin. We need a great deal of money to fix our ship."

You frowned and thought of the money Cliegg had in your savings account. It did you no good there. Maybe you should offer it to the Jedi? Suddenly, a fierce wind began to pick up and you frowned. A sandstorm would be coming soon. You needed to get back to the Speeder.

"How far is your ship? Do you have a place to stay?" You asked in concern, "A sandstorm is coming."

Qui-gon's lips pursed in thought for a moment before saying, "It's several Klicks east on the outskirts."

"You'll never make it to the Outskirts in time...Come with me and my dad! You can take shelter at our place!"

Your step-father appeared stunned when you approached the speeder with Qui-Gon, Padme, R2D2, and the Amphibious Creature who's name you learned was Jar-Jar. He shook his head and sighed, but finally smiled and agreed to let them stay at the farm for the night.

Dinner that evening was the most eventful the Lars family had had in a while. It was only your family there that night, everyone else who worked on the farm had headed home hours ago.

"You're a Jedi, aren't you?"

Your question silenced the dinner and your parents looked at you in concern. You had made no secret of your desire to one day become a Jedi, but they had always viewed it as a childish fancy. Qui-gon looked at you with an amused smirk upon his face,

"What make you think that?"

"I just.." you paused, "I just sense it. The Force I mean."

Qui-gon raised his brow, but the smirk did not leave his face.

"I can see there is no fooling you, Anakin. I am a Jedi."

You could feel the glare of Padme towards Qui-gon from across the table, but could not sense why she would be so angry over this reveal. YOu decided to probe further.

"Are you on some sort of mission?"
"Indeed we are, but our ship has crash landed here and Watto will not accept our currency to purchase the parts we need. It appears we are stranded here for the time being."

Cliegg had remained silent for this conversation, but finally spoke up after this,

"Can't you contact your Jedi Temple and ask them to send you the money needed?"

"We could, but I'm afraid doing so would open us to being tracked by the very people we are escaping from. We do not have a secure channel to reach them. And even if we did, that would take time. There is no telling what could happen between now and receiving the funds necessary to purchase the parts we need."

Cliegg rubbed his beard for a moment before asking,
"And what if I was to tell you I had a secure line to a friend on Coruscant who could get you in contact with the Jedi Temple?"

"Cliegg?" your mother looked at him in confusion. Your step father smiled and said, "I have several friends from my time off-world who live on Coruscant. It wouldn't be any trouble to call them up and they could patch you to the Jedi Temple."

Qui-gon tilted his head for a moment before saying, "It still would be a decent amount of time before the money arrived to an account we could access on planet. But it appears we do not really have an option. I would gladly take you up on the offer."

At this point you had been considering the 135 Gold peggats that sat in your savings account. You

Meh, I have every intention of leaving the Jedi after they have taught us everything they can. But I have some doubts that the thread will agree with me.

We should leave right before we're knighted. Not before so we can get as much knowledge from them and to fulfill the ambition.

edit: new update made me do a double take!!!

I kinda want to write something in for the Jedi code vote. The denial of emotion always sat wrong with me personally, and all the current options just don't seem like trying to take a more nuanced view on everything.

Personality
[] Respect: The Jedi code had guided the Jedi, and by proxy, the galaxy towards peace and enlightenment.
[] Resentment: The Jedi Code was naive and did not deal with the realities of life.
[] Distrust: The Jedi Code provide a way to live, but was it the best way to live for a force user?
[] Devotion: The Jedi Code guided the Jedi and so it guided you.
[] Write In: Must be approve before vote is allowed.

Personally I don't like the current Jedi Code, the old code is a much better thing I believe.

Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force.

Because the old code acknowledges the existence of emotion, passion, ignorance, chaos, and death, but still emphasizes the importance of the counter balancing ideas/ideals.

@Arthellion is this a valid write in?

Guarded Respect: The code guided the Jedi and served them well over thousands of years, but it may or may not be for you.

I like Focused. Learning self control and discipline while also realizing having an outlet for your emotions is invaluable. Whether we go Dark or Light or find Balance, such self discipline will be essential.

[] Remained silent. It would be better to keep your gold and wait for the funds to reach Qui-gon.
[] Offer them your money to purchase the parts.

I think this is a no brainer, give them the money, they get the hell off of Tatooine.

Maybe we should strive to be the absolute worst Jedi to ever live. Ignore all the 'controlling your emotions' shit, just master the lightsaber, learn some Force tricks and just waltz on out to go do our own thing.

Or go follow the old Jedi Code.

I'll actually vote for a plan that has a walk with Padme or some focus with her. At this point if we still want to do a romance route with her I rather we actually take a lot more detailed work with making that relationship viable.

You know, actually make a foundation for romantic interest like any sane person. :p

It'sworth noting that those types of story perks offer chances for more skills/XP/quests/ etc.

They aren't just story fluff

Or go follow the old Jedi Code.

Yeah but with the current base of knowledge we have there'd be absolutely no way to know that right now, so it shouldn't really be considered for Anakin's IC reaction.

Efit: Derp, nvm the last bit.

Nor do I think he's likely going to realistically find it within the story unless we explicitely go for the balance quest.

Sounds like a plan to me :) we don't have to be a Jedi to be light or Sith to be Dark, lets forge our own path in this Galaxy!

Cool. Thank you.

So, I'd advocate for:

Personality
[] Guarded Respect: The code guided the Jedi and served them well over thousands of years, but it may or may not be for you.

Personality
[] Focused: Learning Teras Kasi had given you self-control over your emotions and provided a way to let them out.

Story:
[] Offer them your money to purchase the parts.

Ambition
[] To leave Tatooine: You wish to leave the planet. (500 XP) NEW!
[] To Visit Naboo: You wish to visit the Planet Padme comes from (500 XP) NEW!

Level UP
[] Plan: Vision, Stats, Training
-[] Prophesy of the Force (1 Points): You receive a dream unveiling your true destiny (beginning of The Balance questline)
-[]Apprentice Speaker: +4 Charisma
-[]Novice Athlete: +2 Dexterity
-[]Novice Brute: +2 Strength
-[] One last (?) training with Master Zan

Total Cost: 7 Pts, 2 points saved

So, not set on the ambition, but the others I think we should take.

Guarded Respect, so that Anakin won't be blind to other choices in terms of philosophy to look into, while still respecting the Jedi Code for what it is (a source of stability and pillar of the Jedi Order for thousands of years). But since we are probably going to be trying to reform the Jedi to get their heads out of their collective asses we need to be able to keep in mind that it'll be working against thousands of years of tradition.

Focused, because being able to control and master his emotions will be important for Anakin. And being able to realize that bottling up emotions is bad (and that you need a constructive outlet for your emotions) is going to be a very positive thing for Anakin.

Money: We pretty much took the Gambling in order to get the money to buy the part, so might as well spend it.

Ambitions: Easy exp pretty much.

Level up: Getting started on the Balance quest. Improving Anakin's strengths (Charisma and DEX) plus shoring up his weaknesses (Strength). And getting more training in martial arts to improve Anakin over all. Who knows, if we get lucky we might see Master Zan accompany us.

@aceraptor I agree with what you put out there, except for him funding the Jedi. Perhaps a loan through his family? Talk to Cliegg and have him lend the money to the Jedi. We want to have some resources to fall back on. Perhaps as a write in?

I also agree broadly about being the worst Jedi ever. It would be hilarious. If they kick us out, we can go do our own thing after we get training.

Until the Gm gets back on and answers the question I'll default to the choices we have right now. If the GM says its okay I'll change my vote.

In this story vote...I'm not allowing write-ins for it. Only the two choices there are allowed....for reasons.

And now going to sleep for realzies. lol
