Star Wars: The Chosen One (An Anakin Skywalker Quest)

Then Imma go for something more esoteric. Hapan, or maybe Manda'lor.

Twileki just does not appeal to me in the slightest.

Language Summary
So we can choose another language. I don´t know if everyone has the will to wookle (use wookipedia ^^) the languages, therefore I made the list with the advantages each language could have.

  1. Sith: The original speaker, the pureblooded sith , are nearly gone. The only known pure sith are on Tund as the sorcerers. The only vale of this language is for contact with them and for research. Sidious , Maul and later Vader were known to speak it fluently but I don´t see a big value anywhere except in research (holocrons ,tombs etc.)
  2. Bocce: Spacer language. Created by Baobab merchant fleet for communication between employer (pilots, crews etc.) with different racial background. I thought Basic was for that but this language apparently served the same purpose. I don´t see how it could be useful compared to the others.
  3. Dosh: Language of the Trandoshians, which are some reptilian humanoids (for uninformed people like me). They are slavers and a warlike species. Thing is it is expliciently stated that most of them are fluent in basic and their native language. This language could be useful and this race could be a major addition to "our forces" but their actions towards the wookie are despicable (enslaving some of them).
  4. Gamoran: Language of the "space orks". Their species is not capable of speaking basic, which means to udnerstandthem you need to either speak their language or have a translator. Warlike and literally made for close combat. They could be easily recruited by personally subjugating them (beating them up, without the force). If we want them their language would be useful but close combat is outdated for every non force user on the battlefield and ranged combat only against dishonourable foes could be a major restriction.
  5. Hapan: Language of the Hapan cluster. The Hapes Consortium, which is the ruling body of this cluster used this language. They were essentially an isolationist state, with some major firepower. Most of them do not speak basic , therefore knowing their language is a must if we want to contact or recruit them.
  6. Shyriwook (understand not speak): Wookie language. I mean everyone likes Cheewie and they were neutal at first, therefoe maybe they could be swayed to our side. I think they and the Trandoshians exclude each other. Wookie can´t normally speak basic , making knowing their language a must for communication without a translator (droid, talisman etc.)
  7. Pak Pak: Language of the Neimodians. Again for everyone not in the known these are the leaders of the Trade Federation. They can nearly all speak basic and are a canon member of the CIS. Interesting are the non verbal aspects of their language ,which may give us a better insight on their actions. I don´t see a big use for this language except improving our relationship with some of their species by using their language but that applies to every language.
  8. Sullustese: Language of the Sullustan. They are mainly pilots, navigators and most of the time budy at spaceports. They have members of their species in many coorparations. The coorparation that dominated their homeplanets economy supported the CIS and later the empire.
  9. Togruti: Spoke by the Togruta, the ones looking similar to Twileks but not being the same. Most of the are fluent in basic. Have that kind of social darwinist view that if someone can´t keep up he or she should be left behind. I don´t see any major bonus for knowing this language except getting a bonus to some relationships.
  10. Twilek'i: Language of the Twileks. Second most spoek language in the galaxy. Twileks are usually bilingual or trilingual but outside the republic an older form of this language was considered the commerce language. Most Twileks speak Lekku with each other, using their tail heads, therefore knowledge of this language doesn´t give us access to their "secret" conversations. Should be useful outside the republic and we are probably doing many things outside of it.
  11. Mando'a: Language of the Mandalorians. Our dear brother will definetly learn it ,becaue speaking it is one of the requirements for being one. The advantages should be obvious. Probalby improves our relationship with Jango Fett and other mandalorians. If we want to become a "Mandalor" we need to know it ,but I think Owen will go down that path making our knowledge of it not really nececarry in my opinion.
  12. Kaleesh: Languae of the Kaleesh, another race of reptilian humanoids. Original race of Grievous and warlike. They have a strong dislike for the Republic and supported the CIS during the Clone wars. Maybe Grievous will like us more if we can speak with him in his mother tongue.
  13. Geonosian: Last but not least the language of the Geonosians or how the star clone trooper like to call them bugs. Caste system, dislike other races and orchestrate major gladiator battles. Lovely people but they own a major droid factories and supported the CIS, building their massive droid army. Members of their race rarely get the chance to leave their planet but the ones that do quickly discard their rascism. Like every other language will give us probably some bonus to our relationship with them or increase our interactions with them.

After working through our choices for languages I personally prefer Twilek'i , Hapan and Shrywook. Twilek'i for its value at a language outside the borders of the republic and the two others for recruitment. We learn 3 languages through scholar and these would be my choices.

Personally speaking we are going for a diplomacy/charisma build with high int, therefore I think our time is better spent building more alliances and recruiting more member for the CIS then researching old sith tombs or relics.

Have 1 CP

I see little point in learning Twi'leki if they mostly speak Basic. Even the whole issue of them using the language to keep secrets is kind of obviated by Anakin's Telepathy.

Hapan fits very, very well with the 'nobleman' concept we're leaning towards so I'm all for that, they're a pretty powerful faction in contrast to the Wookies or Gamorans.

We don't know Telepathy. Even when we do, it's just simpler to know what the subtext from the lekku is than to try to invade someone's mind, possibly fail, and possibly turn them hostile against us. Even better, they probably won't expect a nobleman like us to know it, so we can possibly be privy to whole conversations that people otherwise wouldn't expect us to.

I don't suppose we can use the civilian choice to learn the sith language from the holocron?

[] [Civilian] Learn Sith language

And if this is approved how many times would it need to be taken to fully learn?

Not approved

You get Sith holocron stuff with story level ups

You will auto level up at the end of every year (until you're about 18)r in addition to XP level ups

[] [Language] Sith
[] [Language] Shyriwook (understand not speak)
[] [Language] Twilek'i

I'd prefer not to pick Sith because of the Sith holocron, as someone pointed out. If we're going to be travelling to Sith space, Dooku is likely going to be sanctioning Sith studies anyway, I'd think.

The other two are both useful and natural in character for Anakin, coming from his slave background and his recent thoughts on the slavery situation in the Outer Rim.

[] [Squirrel] Hovered the acorn to a location where the Squirrel would die.

I prefer this one for the reasons someone else pointed out earlier. Regarding the tyrannical king of the squirrels write-in, I think that approach would just feel rather anathema to Anakin, given his feelings of revulsion toward slavery. Consider Anakin's epiphany about his hatred for a system that allowed the strong to oppress the weak. I think the aforementioned reasons given by others provide enough justification for Anakin to kill the squirrel, in this case, but deliberately erecting a tyranny? Hm.

[] [Story] Go with the Girl (Requires a motivation check to overcome lawful alignment)

Let's have some fun! We have so much CP to survive battles that might erupt, and I think Anakin will feel bottled in by rules (see again epiphany about oppressive Republic system) and embittered by his failure to apologize to Padme. This can be a little attempt to escape.

[] [Combat] Makashi: Jar'kai
[] [Combat] Makashi: Dun Moch

Finish this Jar'kai level and then move down Dun Moch, as others have pointed out.

[] [Force] Shatterpoint

Only thing I'm sure I want to do. As usual Anakin's Force rolls are insane, and his natural aptitude for shatterpoints should keep him pushing further along with its mechanical benefits.

[] [Civilian] Teras Kasi

Debating between Scholar and Computer.

[] [Social] Hangout with Areth
[] [Social] Hangout with Gordon
[] [Social] Hangout with Carly
[] [Social] Visit the Forest

I prefer the latter two for now, but I think all are interesting. Spending time with Areth is useful in a mechanical sense, but I think it's also good for Anakin to continue to progress his emotional maturity since Areth tests Anakin so hard. It's also good to earn the respect of your super-assassin butler :V As for the forest, I think there might be some interesting things waiting for him in there. The sheer life in the forest should be very useful, either way, for helping Anakin develop his feel for life.

It's unfortunate that Anakin flubbed the Padme roll so badly, but it's a good reminder (again) that maintaining these relationships will take effort. Padme definitely didn't feel great about Anakin's lie, and waiting even longer wouldn't even have given us the chance to make amends. For those wanting to rekindle the friendship, I'd recommend waiting at least a few updates so Anakin can mature and reflect. It might be possible to start over again with a blank slate then.

Well then, we can learn sith at level up and probably mando from Owen at some point then. :)

Kinda want to pick up shyriwook then.

Beyond the Hapans being an Isolationist state, they're also descended from raiders, and have an internal political structure that any Byzantine Emperor would find familiar, in generalities if not in specifics. One of the main reasons to learn Hapan and recruit the Hapes Imperium is that if we can get them to start messing with Republican merchant shipping, we're going to shove salt in the wound of the Republic.

One of the groups we're hoping to recruit, and according to Arthellion have a good chance of recruiting, is Corellia. If we get them, the easy route for most of the Republican Core towards the Galactic South East, South, and South West is cut off. The Hapes Cluster is positioned ideally to raid two of the major remaining hyper routes available to the Core, the Perlimian and Trellen Trade Routes. The Perlimian is in fact one of the main routes that Kuat utilizes to reach the Outer Rim in the Galactic North East.

Also, Ta'a Chume, the present ruler of Hapes is a eugenically bred woman so physically attractive that Luke goddamn Skywalker was attracted to her when she was at least in her late 40s. She's ruthless, vicious, dislikes the Jedi, and places the well being of her people and Hapes as whole above all other concers. What's not to love? :p

[] [Squirrel] Hovered the acorn to a location where the Squirrel would become your emissary to squirrel-kind, and you become King of the Squirrels

Figure we could due this with shatterpoints and animal empathy. Our Squirrels will be our ears...

Don't the Hapans also speak Basic?

Trade languages are pretty nice, since they aren't limited to a single species or polity which means they should be useful in more cases. Sy Bisti and Minnisiat would allow us to talk with Chiss even if we don't know Cheunh.

The "well-being of her people" often ends up being the well-being of Ta'a Chume herself. Almost as if....

Ta'a Chume
As a person, Ta'a Chume was a true sociopath and described as manipulative, ruthless, arrogant, and would not tolerate the defiance of those who crossed her.[2]

Being the Queen Mother of a matriarchal society, Ta'a Chume was disappointed when her consort fathered sons.[4] Having no daughter by blood to rule in her stead, Ta'a Chume took it upon herself to manipulate events to choose her successor. Due to this, her firstborn son Kalen, her younger son's fiancée Elliar and daughter-in-law Teneniel Djo all met their ends due to Ta'a Chume's manipulations to choose a "proper" successor. Seeking to produce a daughter, she had several affairs which unfortunately-from her point of view-produced several other sons.[4][2] An attempt on the life of Leia Organa was enacted because, again, she felt Organa to be an unworthy successor[3][4], while her attempt on her great-granddaughter Allana was enacted because she felt that as the child of two Jedi, the child would eventually turn the Hapes Consortium into a Jedi dynasty.[11]

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Ta'a Chume had hatched a scheme to replace the current Queen Mother Teneniel Djo with the Jedi Knight Jaina Solo.[2] Although Ta'a Chume despised Jedi and other Force-users,[3][11] she apparently saw no problem in replacing a Dathomiri Witch with a Jedi (albeit one that was sliding into the dark side at the time). This was most likely due to the fact that she felt Jaina Solo was young, easy to manipulate, and would eventually be the path to Ta'a Chume's own return to power. The failure of the plot was her downfall, as she was placed under house arrest for the murder of Teneniel Djo and no closer to the throne she so coveted.[11]

Even shortly before she was rendered comatose, Ta'a Chume displayed no remorse for the deaths she had arranged, and even believed that as long as she was alive, there would be no attempts on the life of Tenel Ka. Her concern for Tenel Ka wasn't due to grandmotherly love, however, but a desire to reclaim the throne from her granddaughter when she was in a good position to do so. In a move some would call poetic justice, Jacen Solo used the Force to incapacitate her with a brain hemorrhage, putting an end to her lust for power.[11]
Lovely woman. I'm sure she won't stab us in the back as soon as possible whenever it's convenient for her.
