Black Kingdom Rising

The war between good and evil is a never-ending one. Without good, there is no evil. Without evil, there can be no good. Just as darkness needs light to cast a shadow upon the world, light needs darkness to shine brightly across the world.

And so in the modern age, nearly five centuries after the Great Battle, the war between good and evil is about to enter a new stage.

Unbeknownst to the forces of the light, the last broken fragments of the Ebon Emperor has found their way back into reality. Though weak and barely aware, The Ebon Emperor, the God-King of the Black Kingdom still holds power far beyond the imagining of mortal men. With this power, the Ebon Emperor has reached out into the world.

And it has found you.

Carving its power into your very being, you now serve the Ebon Emperor as its Ebon Lord. You have been given a singular task.

Forge anew the Black Kingdom and bring your master to their rightful place as the ruler of all that there is.

Those of the light that would threaten you still slumber. Those that would be your lord's rival have yet to stir.

The world that has forgotten the Great War must now be reminded.

So in the name of the Ebon Emperor and the Black Kingdom…

You rise.

…..

Choose your origin:

[ ] Last of the Black Blood

Hundreds of years ago, at the height of the Ebon Emperor's power, your ancestor held the favour of the one who ruled over the Black Kingdom. The power granted to that man was not insignificant and even after your family's bloodline has weakened in purity, a part of that power still remains in the blood that now flows within you. And though you are the last of your family that this power shows itself in, the call of the Ebon Emperor has restored the original magical strength that your ancestor once wielded. Just as your ancestor served, you too now serve the Black Kingdom.

Advantages:
Scion of a Fallen House: Your family, while it has lost much of its former wealth and influence, still holds a measure of power in the world. Your ancestral manor still stands along with a number of loyal servants and the coffers still hold enough coin to support the beginnings of the new Black Kingdom.

Power in the Blood: According to your family's history, your ancestor was capable of incredible feats of power, both of might and magic. The Call of the Ebon Emperor has reawakened the dormant power with your blood and now it is up to you to match or surpass your ancestor.

The Black Knight: Hidden deep within the catacombs of your family manor lies the resting place of your ancestor's most loyal and most powerful servant. Created by the Ebon Emperor and gifted to your ancestor, the Black Knight is a peerless warrior matched only by the Light's greatest warriors. And it sleeps, awaiting one who holds the Black King's favour.

Disadvantages:
Sibling Enmity: You are the youngest of your family. You were never meant to inherit anything save of the scraps that your older siblings that deigned themselves to give you. Everything that they had worked for, everything that they had done for the sake of becoming the next family head became meaningless for what greater achievement is there but to personally be chosen by the Ebon Emperor to be his herald and general. They hold enough influence and power that you cannot simply kill them else your plans will suffer greatly. Much effort and resource would be needed to remove these hindrances to your greatness.

Rival Clans and Family: Even within the light yet roused, your family had made many enemies throughout its long history. In fact, its current state is due to the machination of these rival families. Even with the blessing of the Ebon Emperor, you would do well not to take your enemies lightly for a number of them have a history just as long as your own family and perhaps even longer.

Mark of the Black King: The power that has been granted to you by the Ebon Emperor leaves its mark on you in ways that you cannot possibly hide. All that witness your coming will know instinctively that you have been chosen by the Black King. You cannot hide from the Light. You can only weather whatever storm they bring against you and strike back with greater force.

[ ] Dark Revenant

You were betrayed by one who you trusted with your life. Left dying in an ancient graveyard, you could only rage at the heavens at the unfairness of it all. As the last breath of life fade from you, your soul heard the call of the Black King. In exchange for giving you a chance at vengeance, you would serve as his general - his Ebon Lord. And so you were resurrected, your rebirth transforming the graveyard into the beginnings of the Black Kingdom. Now you burn with both power and purpose. You shall have your revenge and raise up the Black Kingdom in the name of the Ebon Emperor.

Advantages:
Ebon Netherlord: The might of the dead flows through your body and the dead themselves heeds your call and commands. The phantoms and spectres of the world are at your command. Dead men speak their tales without hesitation and the frost of the Nether Realms emanates from you, draining away the warmth of life. The fire of hell burns from within. That which is dead cannot be killed, such is what you are now.

Language Grave: Words have power and there are many words throughout the history of men that have long since been forgotten. Languages that only dead man speak, languages that the living no longer speak - you can speak and understand them all. And there are some dead languages that should never have been spoken in the first place. A single word from such a dead language can bring ruination upon the speaker...or their enemies.

Treasure of the Underworld: The wealth hidden deep beneath the Earth's surface lies deep underground. The realm of the dead is known as the Underworld - a world under the world. Perhaps a conceptual misunderstanding has occurred but regardless of the cause, you can call forth the wealth that lies deep below the world of the living.

Disadvantages:
Purification by the Light: Your nature as a being of death means that the Light burns you more harshly than it would the living. Though that which is dead cannot be killed, it can still be destroyed. As the Chosen of the Black King, you are resistant to such purifying light but those that heed your call are not so fortunate.

Reaper's Wrath: You should have died on those cold hard stones but the Ebon Emperor ripped you away from the grasp of the Reaper. The nature of your resurrection is an affront to the Reaper. You have defied the natural order and thus the Reaper desires that this be corrected. The Reaper does not often bend his own rules but for the sake of your death, the Reaper is willing to turn the other eye to the fate of your enemies.

A Hunger for Souls: Your Resurrection comes with a price. In order to maintain your continued existence, you must devour the souls of the living. The purer the soul, the stronger the soul, the better. The destruction of a soul is a heinous thing and something that the Light finds unforgivable. Even those on the side of evil do not take such an act lightly. Be wary and do not let others know of your hunger.

[ ] Unfortunate Accident

In their shattered state, the Ebon Emperor reached out for one that would be able to fulfil their desire. You were having a bad day, a very bad day that you would probably have recovered from easily enough. The negative emotions that you were feeling that day, however, were enough for the Ebon Emperor, in its broken state, to home in on you. Now gifted with power that you never asked for and drawn into a conflict beyond your imagination, you must fight for failure and refusal is not an option.

Advantages:
Overpowered and Unrestrained: The Ebon Emperor in its confused state granted you far more power than it had intended. In doing, the Ebon Emperor became dormant once more, leaving you with no orders or any sense of its goals. While the Black King will surely awaken again in the future, you have free reign to do as you please until then.

Creator of Monsters: You have been given the power to create beings that will do your bidding. Whether it is by creating them simply by shaping the dark energy that pours out from you, transforming an innocent creature into a mindless beast of destruction, or infusing a willing volunteer with power - You can create an army limited by only your own vast power.

The Black Treasury: The key to the fabled vaults of the Black King has been given to you. With it, you can enter the Ebon Treasury and bring forth wealth, artefacts of terrible power, and even old followers that the Black King took a liking to and kept in stasis within this vast vault. Careful though, the Black Treasury is an ever-shifting maze filled with monsters and traps that ruin your day.

Disadvantages:
Completely Mundane Background: Prior to your awakening as the Ebon Lord, you were completely and absolutely normal. Your family tree didn't have anyone closely connected to the forces of good or evil. None of your ancestors married a magical being. You have no knowledge of the world that exist beyond the mundane nor do you have any connections that can help you. You're on your own and even with your immense powers you might make the wrong enemy.

A True Hero is Your Childhood Friend: Fate must be laughing at you. Even if it is by complete accident that you became what is essentially an evil overlord, there was no way you could have possibly known that your childhood friend would turn out to be the reincarnation of a legendary hero of light. Destiny now pits you against one another and it is gonna suck. Also, they are really powerful and you really don't want to face them unprepared.

Honey? Are you doing evil in your room?: You live at home with your parents and siblings. You love them very much so it would be really really bad if they got caught up in all of this Ebon Lord Stuff you have to deal with. Not to mention that if your identity was to ever get out, they'll make the perfect hostages against you. You'll probably need a bigger place for all your evil scheming as well. Dang it!

AN: Alright, so I really liked the Ebon Lord of the Black Kingdom option that I decided to make another quest following that route...sort of. This way, I can switch between seriousness and not-so-serious writing.

Here are some ground rules though.

1. Keep it civil and no flaming people.
2. If you think I messed something up, let me know. Also if you have ideas feel free to suggest them.
3. Omakes are always appreciated and can be considered canon if they're good/funny enough, you'll get a bonus to a roll of your choice (with a limit of two bonuses per roll) and Canon omakes might end up influencing the story.
4. The RNG giveth, and the RNG taketh away. Respect the Almighty Dice Gods and hopefully, they will bestow their favour unto you mortals. That or sacrifice a dozen or so goats and see what happens.

Advisors

Evetta Blackstone (Piety Advisor)

Martial
: 10+5+3: 18: You aren't particularly strong yourself but that's what your doll soldiers are for. You know how to lead an army of dolls to effectively crush an enemy though, if you didn't you wouldn't be the Dollmaster now, would you?

Stewardship: 12+3:15 You like being neat and tidy plus it takes some organisation skills to properly command your dolls as well as you do.

Learning: 12: You love reading books.

Yuudai (Intrigue Advisor)

A young man, who for a rogue ninja with a preference for black clothing, has an expression of a relaxed professional, and since being accepted by the Ebon Emperor, a bit more brooding, that hides a spark of hope and fanaticism towards the Black Kingdom, that's filling his thirst for vengence. Despite this, any expression of his can be hidden in a stoic face, that looks as still as a dolls mask, but can be as strong as the Ebon Lord's own emotions when his mental 'mask' comes off.

Martial: 17+3+5+3: 28 (46): Years of training and combat has made you into a skilled warrior and killer, and the power of Ebon has only made you more dangerous. The lessons of war and combat have long since been engraved into your body and soul.

Stewardship: 13+3: 16: You are an organized person. You have to be in order to make the money from your previous work last as long as possible without compromising combat effectiveness.

Diplomacy: 14+1+1+3: 19: A shinobi is trained to infiltrate and disguise themselves as all kinds of people. Being good at being sociable is a requirement to being a good ninja.

Intrigue: 23+5+1+2+3+2: 36: You are among the mortal masters of subtlety and stealth. Only superhumans and supernatural entities can hope to hide from you and obscure the truths that you would seek.

Learning: 19+3: 22. You are an intelligent man as befits a shinobi. For shinobi, knowledge is power for it opens up more path to take in life while wisdom guides you to the ideal path to take.

Piety: 18+5+3: 26. While not trained in magic, if you had been born a magician instead of a ninja, you would be definitely above average. For you though, it is a potential tool that you shall one day master.
Ninja - Chunin Rank: You are considered a journeyman professional shinobi. Though no longer a student, there is still a long way to go before you can call yourself a master. +3 Martial. +1 Diplomacy. +5 Intrigue.

Servant of the Ebon Emperor: The Black King has chosen you to serve them and in doing so has granted you powers beyond the ken of mortal men. +5 Martial. +5 Piety.

Sly: Thinking problems through, and going for the best, out-of-the-way solutions is a hobby of yours. You can even turn the tables in talking with others better… +10 to Intrigue Rolls. +1 Intrigue. +1 Diplomacy.

Stacked Deck: One who uses a pragmatic approach to combat need not concern themselves with fairness when seeking advantages. ½ Intrigue to Martial. +2 Intrigue.

Forged Body: A body forged in strife, a mind crafted by battle, constant warfare can turn a simple stone into an impressive jewel. Adversity merely makes you stronger. +3 to all Stats.

Sneaky: You are very good at hiding. +2 Intrigue.

0.2 - Trait Selection
[X] Unfortunate Accident

You cannot believe what had just happened yet you must since you can feel that evil power flowing through your every existence, right down to the soul – and you didn't even believe that the soul was a tangible existence until you witnessed the intoxicating corruption of your soul right before your very eyes. Mere minutes ago, you were venting out all the day's frustrations over every stupid little misfortune that had occurred when the world suddenly froze.

And in that frozen moment, something dragged to off to some dark and disturbing place. Your mind still burns from even trying to recall the abyss in which the remnants of your master, the Ebon Emperor, rest within. What your master did to you, what they said to you before giving you your powers, your mind simply refuses to comprehend.

Still, you have a vague understanding of what happened though. You are now the new Ebon Lord, the chosen of the Ebon Emperor and the one who shall create anew the Black Kingdom.

Now if only your master didn't overextend themselves and used too much power in empowering you to the point of falling back into dormancy, then you'd know what you should be doing.

All this power and you haven't been given a single directive beyond creating a new Black Kingdom. One might even say it was very reckless of your master to grant such immense power to some random person but since that person is now you, you're going to make the best of it. Already plans and ideas are surging up from the depths of your mind.

But first, you're going to need to sleep this post-empowerment sickness off.

Week 1
Week 1

The next morning is awkward to say the least. More for you than anything since you can feel this immense pool of power just floating around inside you, just crying out to be used. The problem however is that you have no idea how to use it. All you know that having all this crazy power has made your body stronger, faster, and tougher. It's quite fortunate that despite all this power, there's no discernible changes in your appearance. At least your family hasn't noticed anything off.

Like every other day, your mother is preparing breakfast while dad is reading the newspaper. A quick skim of the cover tells you that there's been another mysterious sighting of some vigilante that's been beating up criminals and leaving them in front of the police station. Your younger sister is testing away at her phone, probably planning a day out with her friends in middle school. Your younger brother is watching his Saturday morning cartoons.

And then there's you, who's now apparently the evil overlord general-type character that you'd normally see in one of those kids' superhero shows, like the magical girl show that your brother is watching. Not only that, your perception of the world has change with the revelation that Magic is actually a real thing. You can see things that no-one else seems to be able to see. Phantoms, ghost, spirits – you have no clue.

At any rate, you're thankful that a couple of days ago, there was an accident in your school's science lab forcing them to close the place for a week, leaving you the perfect opportunity to get a handle on your powers and everything else that came with it. There is a wellspring of power that's urging you to make use of it and you don't want to know what would happen if you just let it be.

You have 500 Ebon Power available for use.

There are ways to spend this power, you can feel it inside your mind. But it's going to take some experimenting. You just hope that you don't accidentally blow up anything while you're at it.

You don't want to waste your allowance and savings on having to buy new stuff.

You have $500 in your funds available.

Martial: One of the urges within you tells you that the easiest way to expend power is to create minions, subordinates or whatever they call themselves. According to what you've seen in your brother's cartoons, you'll need an army of monsters because a dark general without an army is just some dude. You'll keep things small at first since you don't really have much space at home that your family won't stumble upon by accident. Time for some experimental minion making! (Choose 1)

[ ] Creating From Nothing: You can draw out your power from your body and shape it. In some games, that's enough to make minions. See if you can make something that can think and follow your orders out of pure energy. Cost: 10 EP. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Create Minion Spell. Weak stupid Minions.

[ ] Making Something out of Something: You believe that you can shove a portion of your power into objects and get some kind of effect. It's quite common in magical girl shows for some random object to be used to create monsters so let's see if you can do something like that as well. Cost: 50 EP. Chance of Success: 70%. Reward: Intellectification Spell. Weak intelligent Minions.

[ ] Call Something to Serve: You've seen this in a lot of games and shows. One way of gaining minions is to summon like some boss minion and make a contract with them. At least that's what your powers are telling you. You don't know how something like that is meant to go so you're just gonna have to wing it. Cost: 50 EP. Chance of Success 50%. Reward: Summon Minion Spell. Future access to stronger minions. Minions.

Stewardship: Right now, you're living with your parents and siblings. You've never heard of an evil overlord that lived with their parents and operated out from a nice family home. You're going to have to change that. (Choose 1)

[ ] Base of Operations: You know that the power within you will continue to grow. That means that soon you won't be able to hide your experiments in the privacy of your room. You need to find a place that offers both space and privacy to not only test your power but also to start up a base. Cost: $100. Chance of Success: 100%. Reward: A place to act as your base for the time being.

[ ] Get Rich Quick Scheme #1: You think you might be able to create stuff out of your power. What better way to test this than making valuable metals and gemstones. $500 - $100 = $400 Remaining

Martial
: One of the urges within you tells you that the easiest way to expend power is to create minions, subordinates or whatever they call themselves. According to what you've seen in your brother's cartoons, you'll need an army of monsters because a dark general without an army is just some dude. You'll keep things small at first since you don't really have much space at home that your family won't stumble upon by accident. Time for some experimental minion making! (Choose 1)

[X] Creating From Nothing: You can draw out your power from your body and shape it. In some games, that's enough to make minions. See if you can make something that can think and follow your orders out of pure energy. Cost: 10 EP. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Create Minion Spell. Weak stupid Minions.

Roll: 11

The power within you is unlike anything that you've ever seen or felt before. It whispers things to you if you concentrate. It wishes to be used, to be given form, to have purpose – all for the sake of the Ebon Emperor. Your thoughts and desires mould it like an artist shaping a lump of clay into an artwork.

You think hard about what you want but honestly, your thoughts are kind of all over the place. Despite this, however, you feel something snap into place within you. At that very moment, you release your power and watch as it twists and reshapes itself into a tangible form.

Unfortunately, the results are not what you were expecting.

"Bobobo~" Instead of something that can do minion stuff like move furniture and carry equipment or used as a meat shield, you end up with what appears to be a black baby slime thing with glowing yellow eyes, small body and big head. Despite its cute appearance, it is completely useless for what you wanted.

You attempt to try and make more of the slime thing bit nothing happens, not even your power responds. Seems like what had happened was a complete fluke. Looks like you gonna have to start from scratch and try something else.

You watch as the adorable thing moves around the room through no visible mean of locomotion, looking at everything with big curious eyes.

At least you got a neat pet out of it, you guess.

Reward: 1 Baby Slime Pet.

Stewardship
: Right now, you're living with your parents and siblings. You've never heard of an evil overlord that lived with their parents and operated out from a nice family home. You're going to have to change that. (Choose 1)

[X] Base of Operations: You know that the power within you will continue to grow. That means that soon you won't be able to hide your experiments in the privacy of your room. You need to find a place that offers both space and privacy to not only test your power but also to start up a base. Cost: $100. Chance of Success: 100%. Reward: A place to act as your base for the time being.

Roll: 90

It is by chance that you find it. While looking around, you'd gone into an alleyway to avoid a large group of people, only to find an old caravan in an empty lot. After some asking around, you found out that the owner of the caravan and the lot had died some time ago and the landlord hadn't figured out what to do with the lot.

After some…convincing, you were able to rent the caravan and the lot for a hundred dollars a week. That by itself was alright since it meant that you now had a private place to experiment and keep your results in. You couldn't keep a slime in your room forever, especially a curious one like the one you created.

However, once you'd gotten the keys, you noticed a hatch hidden amongst the grass. It was well hidden and you doubt you would have found it without being enhanced by your powers. It takes some finagling but you manage to get it open. You're disappointed at first to find a bunch of old tools and some other worthless junk but after removing them, you're excited to find stairs leading down into what is essentially an underground basement.

Better yet, a bit of exploring finds that the place still has water and electricity. It even has some furniture in here as well, albeit with a thick layer of dust on everything.

If anyone once lived here, they are long gone.

For a hundred dollars, you've found the perfect place to set up operations as an Evil Overlord or supervillain. Now if only you can get Wi-Fi down here then everything would be absolutely perfect.

Reward: A lot and caravan with a secret underground dungeon with free utilities to act as your secret base. No more experiments at home.

Diplomacy

Hopefully, you can find someone or something that can help you figure out this overlord with might and magic stuff. Cost: 150 EP. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: 3 Spy Unit – Phantom Seekers. Find supernatural groups.

Roll: 24

You decided that you needed spies, invisible sentries that would seek out and find anyone that could be a threat to you. After you failed attempt at making a minion out of nothing, you try this time to make minions out of spirits. You wanted to use ghosts but they were a rare sight and you wanted to be able to make more of these spying phantoms.

It takes some doing but you manage something that somewhat resembles what you were going for. It looks like a translucent thing made out of smoke. Like a ghost, it can move through walls, become invisible somehow, ping you on some mysterious magical wavelength that you can sense when they are in proximity of high concentration of magic, and most importantly, you transfer your sense to them. Oh, and they follow mental commands.

You let they roam the block and after a couple of days, one of them pings you. Connecting your sight to that one reveals to you that the owner of a nearby antique shop is practically overflowing with magic. However, when the Phantom Seeker attempts to follow the old man into the shop, it collides with some magical barrier and promptly explodes. Ouch.

Reward: 2 Phantom Seekers. One lost due to contact with a magical barrier. Magical Antique Shop Found.

Learning
: You have been infused with energy not of this world which you're calling Ebon Power for now. It's different to anything that you've ever seen. Time for some science! (Choose 1)

[X] Ebon Power and Science!: Through the methods of rationality, you shall seek out and uncover the true nature of your powers and see how the laws of physics work with them. Magic is but a different sort of science though you get the feeling that what's in you is not quite the same. Time to test things! Cost: 50 EP. Chance of Success: 50%. Rewards: Learn more about your Powers.

Roll: 88

After conducting a bevvy of various experiments, you are able to confirm several things about Ebon Power.

1. Ebon Power exists outside mundane scientific means of detection beyond human sight. You can detect it quite easily thanks to your newly acquired magical senses. Normal means, however, are useless for detecting the stuff so you can't really accurately record what Ebon Power does exactly.

2. It can mimic the properties of any substance with sustained concentration. It transforms completely into that substance if once a certain amount of time has passed. Ten units of Ebon Power can be transformed into approximately one hundred gram of any substance. You haven't quite figured out what the pattern in the time it takes for Ebon Power to transmute into another substance just yet. However, it's been noted that transmutation is faster when Ebon Power's current state of matter matches the desired substance's state of matter.

3. Ebon Power changes its state of matter upon mental commands. So far, you've managed to make it manifest and change into a liquid, a solid and a gas. You haven't tried plasma for fear of accidentally setting everything on fire. As a liquid, Ebon Power becomes something akin to viscous black oil that doesn't mix with other liquids. As a solid, it takes on the appearance of a black crystal that emanates a soft bluish glow. As a gas, it looks dark blue and is unaffected by gravity, simply hovering in place unless moved by an outside force such as a breeze.

4. Ebon Power if left alone and unaltered starts doing weird stuff to its surroundings. Colour tones become darker. Edges and points become sharper. Dangerous properties become slightly more dangerous. Strange eldritch patterns start appearing on shit. This phenomenon affects only non-living material. Living substance such as plants and insects are unaffected.

5. Ebon Power can be made lethal. In attempting to see if Ebon Power is capable of affecting living things, you discover that if you infuse it with what can be called 'Killing Intent', Ebon Power causes harm and kills off living things.

All in all, you've only really understood one thing about the power of the Ebon Emperor. It's fucking bullshit. It does, however, give you some ideas on how to utilise it.

Reward: Learn some stuff about the nature of Ebon Power. Also learnt that Ebon Power is bullshit. Various options have been unlocked.

Piety
: Magic is real, actually real. The stories about witches and wizards in myths have a grain of truth to them. The world is full of nature spirits, ghosts, and other mysterious forces. You yourself is a conduit of power born from a being of god-like power. You must learn to harness this power or face the consequences. (Choose 1)

[X] Magical Enchantment: You can infuse objects with Ebon Power. See if you can change the object to make them better or be able to do stuff. Enchantment and that kind of crap. Cost: 100 EP. Chance of Success: 100%. Rewards: Learn how to enchant objects.

Roll: 99

If you think about Ebon Power as something magical, you get much less of a headache than you do when trying to fit it into a scientific mindset. You're also quite sure that Ebon Power isn't actually magic but simply mimics it in an instant. You haven't got enough real magic stuff to confirm that yet but it is a sound hypothesis.

What you do know is that when you tried to enchant an object, you enchanted it. Just like that. All you had to do was think real hard about what kind of enchantment you wanted on the object, stuff it full of Ebon Power and it would be applied just like that. More complex and more potent enchantments needed more Ebon Power while simple temporary ones were quick and cost virtually nothing to create.

You could even freely alter how the enchantment would look like. You could make it so that symbols that looked like runes would appear engraved into the object's surface. You could make it so that the enchantment also made the object glow. You could even change the appearance of an enchanted object in a way that was appropriate for said enchantment.

And all it cost was a chunk of your Ebon Power.

You are very certain that enchanting stuff should be nowhere as easy as this.

Reward: You discover that either you're an absolute genius at enchanting stuff or Ebon Power is extremely useful for enchanting stuff. You now have a box full of magical knick-knacks.

Personal
: You have quite a bit of free time with school closed for the week. Might as well catch up on your video game backlog. (Choose 1)

[X] Meditate: You've noticed that despite being imbued with immense powers of darkness or Ebon or whatever, you're surprisingly calm about the whole thing. Something's up and you feel that looking deep within yourself will provide some answers. Cost: 0. Chance of Success: 90% Reward: 60 or greater, Lose Hidden Trait. Remember meeting with Ebon Emperor. Understand what you have become even at the cost of your peace of mind.

Roll: 99

You'd meditated before, back when you were still part of a Martial Arts Dojo. It helped you calm down after a stressful day of school and training and it did wonders for your once uncontrollable temper. Now, you hope that some meditation will help ease this sense of unease that you're feeling.

Emptying your mind is harder than it was before since you're still thinking so much about what Ebon Power could do and the possibilities it presented. Eventually, you slowly direct your thoughts towards your actions and everything you've done since awakening to your power.

You haven't been questioning why you got this power. You haven't been thinking about the consequences of becoming an evil overlord. You never even thought of not becoming an evil overlord. It just seemed like the right thing to do when you decided that you were now the Ebon Lord and thus the chosen Dark General of the Ebon Emperor.

You understand now that you weren't given completely free reign over your actions. Every action you've taken has been directed towards gaining power and setting up the foundation of the New Black Kingdom.

Memories well up from the abyss of your mind and you remember.

The broken face of the Black King and its last words to you.

As sudden as it came, your memories of your master's face disappears but their last words before they fell back into dormancy remained.

Forge a new Black Kingdom.

Rebuild the Black Army.

...

Save me.

Those were the last words of the Ebon Emperor. They were not a command. They were not a request. They were not a negotiation. They were not a directive.

They were a plea

You understand now.

The Ebon Emperor will not awaken to command you.

You haven't been given power in order to take over the world.

You haven't been given power in order to crush the forces of light.

You've been given power in order to save the Ebon Emperor.

And when someone asks you for help with the last of their strength...

You're gonna give it to them.

Reward:

[Hidden Trait: Herald of the Ebon Emperor] Lost.

[Trait: Saviour of the Ebon] Gained.

[Trait: Driven] Gained.

[Primary Objective Gained: Save the Ebon Emperor.]

Week 1 Interlude - Friends
Week 1 - Interlude

It's the weekend and you're chilling at home, having done all the experiments you can do without burning down the house. Your parents are out shopping and your siblings are hanging out with their friends, leaving the house to yourself. You've spent this break from school doing weird shit so you're gonna spend the last day doing jack.

Count Cuddles, the slime you created, is blowing bubbles while riding on the Roomba. You'd be taking photos and posting them online if it wasn't for the fact that Count Cuddles was a slime made out of bullshit energy that you generate. There's some cooking show on TV but it's a re-run and you've already eaten your snacks.

Just a blissfully boring day.

Then someone ruins it by ringing the doorbell.

With great reluctance, you get off the couch and drag yourself to the door. The first thing you see when you open the door are the soles of two shoes right before they slam right into your face. As a testament of your empowered body, you don't even flinch and instead, you watch as your would-be assailant pays for trying to defy gravity and slams her head against the cold hard ground.

"GYAH!" You watch with amusement as the girl rolls on the ground, holding the back of her head in pain. "DAMN YOU GRAVITY!"

The short girl rolling before you has her red hair tied into twin tails with black ribbons. She is wearing a black shirt with a red heart design with the word "KILL" beneath it, a denim miniskirt, and a cute red vest. She is also your one of your few friends, Roselyn Kumiko Summers.

If she's here that means -

"Jacob! Where have you been all week? We were worried about you!" Your best friend Ando Hiroyuki walks into view. He's wearing a brown jacket over a white shirt with black jeans. He carefully walks around Roselyn and gives you a playful punch on the arm. "Looks like you're doing alright. How you been?"

You tell your bro that everything's been alright. You'd already gotten over what happened a week ago so you're good. You don't tell him about how you're now a dark lord though - that would be stupid.

"Hey you assholes! Don't ignore me!" Roselyn had gotten back up and looks pissed. "And god, what are you made of, Jay? You didn't even flinch!"

You graciously inform her that most people usually do dropkick other people in the face. That and you're awesome and she needs more training if she wishes to topple the grand tower of Jacob that is you.

It's strange how you find it hard to even politely talk with other people yet with your friends you can joke and muck around with them without trouble.

Roselyn opens her mouth to retort when someone interrupts.

"Oh! Everyone's here! Did everyone decide to visit Jacob as well? How wonderful!" A sweet voice chirped. Everyone turned to see Christina Bellino, everyone's sweetheart. Even the prickly Roselyn held her tongue around the gentle girl. The black haired girl was wearing an elegant white one-piece dress with complementing sandles. "How have you been, Jacob? It's been awhile since we last talked hasn't it?"

"Well, Duh. Jay here practically vanished off the face of the Earth the whole week. Hmph." Roselyn huffed.

"She has you there, bro. You did kinda just vanish for the whole week. No-one knew where you went and you weren't answering our texts either." Ando informs you with a slight edge in his voice.

Crap. You were so busy doing experiments that you'd completely forgotten about everyone.

You tell your friends that you were busy with stuff and you needed some time alone to get your thoughts into order, especially after what happened last week. While Roselyn doesn't seem to fully believe you, the others bought it.

"Well, that's good to hear. Now are you gonna invite us in or not?" Ando asked.

You nod and step back to let your friends into the house.

"Were you playing with bubbles earlier, Jacob?" Christina asks.

You freeze as you remember who you left on the Roomba.

"Bobobo bobobo bobobobo bobo!" And right on cue, the Roomba comes crawling out from under the table with Count Cuddles happily blowing bubbles while singing some random tune.

"Eh?"

"What."

"Ah!"

Your friends freeze at the sight of the little black slime and your mind races for a way to fix the situation when Roselyn and Christina both let out squeals of adoration.

"EEEEEEEEE! WHAT IS THIS CUTE LITTLE CREATURE!?"

"SOOOO CUTE!"

"BOBO!"

"Dude, what the fuck?"

You can only facepalm as the girls quickly gather around what is technically your first minion.

"Bo-Bo-o"

"So let me get this straight. The real reason why you've cut all communications between us is because of...Count Cuddles?"

You nod.

"And you say that you just found it wandering around. Am I right?"

You nod again.

"...You've got to be kidding me..." Ando mutters darkly as he watched the girls feed Count Cuddles. Interesting fact, Count Cuddles can eat anything organic but prefers sweets or meat.

"Say ah!"

"Bo!"

"And here you go!"

"Omph!"

"Kyah! So cute!"

"Eurgh, seriously. This is weird."

You completely agree. A black slime thing was weird as hell.

"What? Oh yeah, that too but I was talking about Roselyn. It's like high-level weirdness seeing her act so girly."

"I heard that!"

"Yikes!"

"Bobobo!"

"Awww, who's the cutest blob in the world?"

Actually, you now had to agree with Ando on Roselyn. It was just plain weird seeing her act so girly.

Ando lets out a sigh and smiles. "Geezes man, was there a reason why you couldn't tell us that you now had a pet slime?"

There were lots of perfectly good reason for not telling your friends that you currently have trouble remembering. Yes, totally. Ando chuckles at that and takes a sip of his tea.

"Well, I'm glad you're doing okay. Don't worry about a thing. None of us is gonna let out that you've got an actual slime monster as a pet."

And you're grateful for that.

"Heh, so...I take you've heard what happened at school?" Ando suddenly asks. You raise an eyebrow in confusion and shake your head. You were busy so you didn't pay any attention to what was going on. "Seriously? Our break got extended."

Woah, really? Awesome! Wait, why?

"The Science Labs exploded again."

Ah, that would do it.

"So that means we get yet another week off from school while they fix everything." Ando seemed pleased with the development and so were you. This meant more time for you to practice your awesome dark powers of Ebon. "Now since we got another free week, wanna hang out later this week?"

You say sure. You don't want to be doing experiments all the time. Though you still needed to find a way to help the Ebon Emperor, you only just started and without knowledge, you were stuck. With a Phantom Seeker by your side, you could hang out with your friends while looking for hidden magical places in the city.

"Great! Now...help me separate the girls from your new buddy. I wanna hang out with the little guy too."

"Bobo!"

Truly the cuteness of Count Cuddles was a thing to be feared.

Week 2
Week 2

You're on your way back from cleaning up the underground complex beneath the lot that you've rented. It was kinda freaky that such a place existed in the first place. What purpose did that place have and who built it?

At any rate, your thoughts turn to the events of yesterday when one of your secrets were exposed.

Your friends promised to keep Count Cuddles' existence among themselves. Having seen the positive reaction from your friends though, you took a chance and introduced Count Cuddles to your family as well. Their reactions were mostly positive except for your sister who didn't like Count Cuddles at all. At least now you don't have to keep Count Cuddles hidden in your room.

You also got your weekly allowance as well. $50 allowance gained.

There has been something that's been bothering you though.

You used up more than half your Ebon Power reserves experimenting last week and you can only feel a relatively small amount of Ebon Power returning. At the rate you're using up Ebon Power, you'll be out by the end of this week. 50 Ebon Power Generation.

"Someone help!"

A cry for help cut through your thoughts. Immediately, you start running towards the source of the cry. You barely notice yourself running up walls and jumping over buildings as you run. Within seconds, you arrive at the entrance of an alleyway. At the end of the alley, you see three men looming over an unconscious teenage girl on the ground. Two of the men are holding the girl down while the third one has his hands on her clothes. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what's going on here.

What happens next can only be described as brutal. Three mundane men with no real fighting skills against a superpowered ex-street fighter. They never stood a chance. In less than a minute, the three men are broken and bleeding around you.

Shit. The moment you saw what the men were doing, you'd snapped and destroyed them. The only good thing here is that the girl is unharmed. However, these scum have seen your face. You can't let them go. Your existence must not be known, not yet, not now.

You're gonna have to erase them.

Picking up the groaning bodies of the three men, you head back to your secret dungeon. There's an area that you can use as a makeshift jail cell and these men are in no condition to escape.

Even if you're meant to be something of an Evil Overlord, there are some evils in the world that you won't stand for.

In any case, you now have some human test subjects to experiment with.

3 Human Captives Gained.

240 Ebon Power available.

$400 fund available.

Martial
: You are an Evil Overlord General without an army to lead. In order for the Black Kingdom to become strong, you need an army. With the power of Ebon, you can forge one. And with an army, you can start fulfilling your role as the Ebon Lord. The question is merely how you shall do it. (Choose 1)

[ ] Born From Power: Your attempts to create minions from nothing but Ebon Power result in failure with the exception of Count Cuddles. You probably weren't using enough power. It's time to give it another shot and hopefully this time, with a bit more oomph, you'll get minions that can be of actual use. Cost: 20 EP: Chance of Success: 85%. Reward: Ability to create minions out of Ebon Power.

[ ] Life to the Lifeless: Your experiments in enchantment has given you insight on how you might be able to turn inanimate objects into living beings that will do your bidding. You'll need to give them wisdom and intelligence, a form that will allow them to move and act and finally, you need to instil a loyalty that can't be broken. Cost: 30 EP. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Ability to create minions out of Objects.

[ ] Summon Me Some Minions: The magic born from Ebon Power can be used for many things, you understand that now. So why don't you call up some otherworldly being to be your servant? With your powers, it shouldn't be too hard to contain what you summon and strike up an adequate contract. Cost: 40 EP. Chance of Success: 60%. Reward: Ability to outsource minions from various sources.

[ ] Mortal to Monster: In a number of shows, the monsters that the heroes fight are often transformed humans. You should be able to do something like that with the guys you've captured. Time to see if you can turn this human scum into productive monster minions of the Black Kingdom. Cost: 50 EP, 1 Human Captive. Chance of Success: 50%. Reward: Ability to turn people into monsters minions.

Stewardship
: Your generation rate of Ebon Power is nowhere near enough to keep up with your power expenditures from what you can tell. You need a way to secure a way to obtain more Ebon Power and you have a few ideas on how to do it. (Choose 1)

[ ] Human Resources: In a lot of magical girl and tokusatsu shows, the villains are often going around draining people of their "life force" to sustain themselves or for some nefarious plan. As an evil overlord that wouldn't look out of place on such shows, you should be able to do the same. Luckily for you, you have three guinea pigs to try this on. Cost: 10 EP, 1 Human Captive. Chance of Success: 100% Reward: Gain the ability to Drain people of their ??? and convert it into Ebon Power.

[ ] Base Renovation: You have an underground complex that's been abandoned for who knows how long. In order for you to make the most of it, you should really clean it up. There are some areas that you weren't able to check out so there might be secrets hidden within. After all, there being jail cells means that someone or something was kept captive here long before you showed up. Cost: $50 (For cleaning supplies). Chance of Success: 100%. Reward: Clean Base of Operations. Base Secrets revealed.

[ ] Get Rich Quick Scheme #1: You can create any kind of substance through the transmutation of Ebon Power. What better use than making valuable metals and gemstones. With better control, it shouldn't take too much power. Let's hope there are no laws against selling gold and gemstones made out of dark energy at the pawnshop. Cost: 50 EP. Chance of Success: 100%. Reward: Variable Income Gain.

Diplomacy
: You have only one lead on the supernatural world. Should you go and make contact?

[ ] Atticus Antiques: You know about a magical antique shop where one of your Phantom Seekers met their demise. It's an old antique shop that's been around for a few years now according to digital records. However, you have a niggling suspicious that it's been around for so much longer. Right now, it's your only lead on the world beyond the ordinary. Let's hope that the power within you won't trigger any alarms of hostility from whoever owns the shop. Cost: $200, a box of magical knick-knacks. Chance of Success: 40%. Reward: Information on Supernatural World.

[ ] Don't investigate. There is surely better sources and lead that are just waiting to be found out there. If anything, you don't know how the supernatural world would see someone such as yourself and meeting with a purveyor of old and magical artifacts might be a bad idea.

Intrigue: There's a hidden world out there and you have no idea how to properly introduce yourself to it. However, you won't let that stop you from finding out what things are like. But first, there's a bunch of other stuff that needs to be done before you can properly get into being the manipulative mastermind gig. (Choose 1)

[ ] Phantom Seekers: You currently have two Phantom Seekers looking for the supernatural out there. Unfortunately, you've quickly discovered some design flaws. They're weak so they are easily torn apart by magical defences. They're slow so they can only really home in on stationary targets. They also can't see past concealments spells since that antique shop doesn't ping the other seekers so you assume there's that kind of spell as well. Plus you only have two. Time to make Phantom Seeker Version 2. Cost: 50 EP. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Improved Phantom Seekers. More Information on local supernatural elements.

[ ] Enter the Vault: You have access to the Treasure Vault of Black Kingdom. Time to go spelunking into the depths of the Vault for treasure beyond your wildest imagining. Cost: 30 EP. Chance of Success: 90%. Reward: Random Loot.

[ ] Need for a Disguise: The main reason you kidnapped those thugs was because your face was seen and you did not want anyone looking for you. You need a proper disguise. A facade so that you can do your Ebon Lord stuff without fear of your identity being revealed. Your parents would be very disappointed if they knew what you were now. Cost: 40 EP. Chance of Success: 90%. Reward: Glamour Spell.

Learning
: You have been infused with energy not of this world which you're calling Ebon Power for now. It's different to anything that you've ever seen. Time for some science! (Choose 1)

[ ] Ebon Power Substitution: The Power of the Ebon Emperor is incredibly malleable. With effort, it changes according to your thoughts. Could you recharge a phone with it? Can you use it as nourishment instead of actual food? And you fire Ebon Power instead of lead out of a gun? Just what can you do with this? Cost 50 EP. Chance of Success: 50%. Rewards: Learn how to replicate mundane energies.

[ ] Ebon Power and Technology: The power of the Ebon Emperor is a strange one. Though you know how it interacts somewhat with the material world, you're curious to see if you can do stuff on the digital plane using the power of Ebon. It's honestly kinda silly since you know that technology doesn't work that way but you're sure that Ebon Power doesn't know that. Cost: 10 EP. Chance of Success: 50%. Reward: Learn how to affect electronics with Ebon Power.

[ ] Ebon Material Testing: Ebon Power can be made into a solid form, a black crystal full of bluish purplish lightning. Who knows what something like this is capable of. Can it be made into armour? Can it be used as a power source? You must do science! Cost: 40 EP. Chance of Success: 40%. Reward: Learn how to use Ebon Power as a material for crafting.

Piety
: Ebon Power is not magic but it can be transformed into magic in an instant. In this way, the power of Ebon allows you to do any kind of magic, theoretically. You just need to do to figure out what magic is out there and what you can do with magic born from Ebon Power. (Choose 1)

[ ] Searching for Spirits: With the creation of the Phantom Seekers, you realise that Ebon Power can interact with spirits. In order to see how Ebon Power affect spiritual beings, you need to capture some yourself. The world is actually full of spirits but most are either short-lived, incredibly weak, or very hard to find. With the Power of Ebon, it shouldn't be a problem. Cost: 20. Chance of Success: 60%. Reward: Learn to control spirits with Ebon Power.

[ ] Healing and Harm: Ebon Power can transform into any substance. By that notion, it can also become human flesh and poison. With magical enchantments, you can make healing waters and drinkable curses as well. Time to test how well Ebon Power can be used to heal others and you got some test subjects to try it out on. Cost: 40 EP, 1 Human Captive. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Learn how to heal and harm others using Ebon Power.

[ ] Power Over the Mind: One common power that the bad guys had in those shows is the ability to mind control people. You...aren't really comfortable with something like this but you feel that it is something that would be of great help to you in the future. Being able to alter memories, forcing people to go somewhere out of the way, making criminal scumbags turn themselves in. Yeah, you could do with something like that. Cost: 100EP, 1 Human Captive. Chance of Success 30%. Reward: Basic Mental Manipulation.

Personal
: With school still closed, you got plenty of free time. What are you gonna do with all this time though? (Choose 1)

[ ] Ebon Meditation: From a source unknown, the power of Ebon flows into you. It is a great and powerful thing but the flow is small. Weak. You need more than what is being given to you and you know if you can widen the gates even by a little, you'll be able to draw upon so much more Ebon Power. What you simply need is a clear mind and to see the flow. Cost: 0. Chance of Success: 10%. Reward: Increased Ebon Power Generation.

[ ] Training: No sense in slacking off your training. Even with all this power in your body, you still need to sharpen the skills needed to fully harness said power. When the whole world is against you saving a dark god-like thing from death, the only thing you can truly rely on is your own body. Cost: 0. Chance of Success: 50% Reward: 1 Martial. Greater than 80 gets two Martial.

[ ] Friends and Family: You made your friends and family worry about you last week. You should put some effort into spending some time with them. The last thing you want is for your friends to come snooping around wondering what the hell you're doing that's so important that you're completely ignoring them. Cost: $50. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Increased Relationship with Friends and family.

[ ] My Little Slime: You've got a pet slime of magical ebon-fueled origins. Cuddles seems capable of eating anything organic and it can blow bubbles. It is also technically your first minion. Spend some time with it. Get to know it better. Build up your bond with the little fellow. Cute is justice and nothing's cuter than Count Cuddles. Cost: 10EP, $20. Chance of Success: 80%. Rewards: Increased Relationship with Count Cuddles. ???

Week 2 - Results
Week 2 – Results

240 - 150 = 90 EP Remaining

$400 – $150 = $250 Remaining

Martial
: You are an Evil Overlord General without an army to lead. In order for the Black Kingdom to become strong, you need an army. With the power of Ebon, you can forge one. And with an army, you can start fulfilling your role as the Ebon Lord. The question is merely how you shall do it. (Choose 1)

[X] Born From Power
: Your attempts to create minions from nothing but Ebon Power result in failure with the exception of Count Cuddles. You probably weren't using enough power. It's time to give it another shot and hopefully this time, with a bit more oomph, you'll get minions that can be of actual use. Cost: 20 EP: Chance of Success: 85%. Reward: Ability to create minions out of Ebon Power.

Roll: 10 + 10 (Saviour of The Ebon): 20

Your second set of attempt at creating minions out of simply Ebon Power gets off to a rough start.

This time around, your first try results in a small gurgling pile of jiggling black sludge that didn't even last a minute before collapsing on itself and dissolving into black smoke. Thank god your underground base is somehow ventilated.

Your second attempt ends up with you covered in an ink-like substance after you managed to create a bigger blob that actually had something resembling arms and legs before it tried to attack you, forcing you to put an immediate end to its short life with a well-placed kick.

After cleaning up, your third attempt makes the phrase, third time's the charm seem like a real thing when you finally get something that isn't some hostile sludge like thing.

It has a vaguely humanoid body structure. It has a round spherical head with circular, glowing yellow eyes. It also has two long, twisted antennae sprouting from the top of its head. Each of its hands has three clawed fingers, and its feet are large and lack any discernible digits. With the exceptions of its eyes, its body is completely black.

You sense no aggression or hostility from the thing as it looks up at you with blank yellow eyes. Tentatively, you give it a wave and it waves back.

Okay, you think you're getting somewhere.

Further attempts result in more of the same creature. By the time you've finished confirming that your new ability works and isn't a fluke, you have five of these new creatures idly standing around. You can tell that these things aren't very strong individually plus they aren't very smart either. You think a child could easily beat one up without much problem.

However, as your first minions, they work just fine. They know no fear, are completely loyal to you and they cost virtually nothing to maintain their existence. And with enough of them, they could easily overwhelm a grown man.

They can also flatten themselves against the ground, making themselves look like shadows.

You've made what are essentially Shadows from Kingdom Hearts, haven't you?

Eh, whatever. Not like Disney can sue you for copyright.

There's one thing that is bothering you though. Appearance-wise, Count Cuddles could be considered an infantile version of these Shadow Minions but what you sense from Count Cuddles is completely different from your new minions.

Just what is Count Cuddles then?

Putting that thought aside, for the time being, you end up creating a total of twenty shadows over the week in between your other experiments.

Reward: Create Shadow Ability gained. 20 Shadow Minions gained. More will be automatically be made every turn.

Shadow Minion
– Looks and functions like the Shadows from the Kingdom Hearts series. Weak combat strength but capable of flattening itself and moving through small gaps. Upkeep cost. 1EP per Shadow.

Stewardship: Your generation rate of Ebon Power is nowhere near enough to keep up with your power expenditures from what you can tell. You need a way to secure a way to obtain more Ebon Power and you have a few ideas on how to do it. (Choose 1)

[X] Human Resources
: In a lot of magical girl and tokusatsu shows, the villains are often going around draining people of their "life force" to sustain themselves or for some nefarious plan.

Roll: 44 + 10 (Saviour of The Ebon): 54

With your new minions in tow, you head to the cells where your prisoners await their fate. They're frankly in bad shape. Not surprising since you hadn't held back much when you beat the crap out of them. Fortunately, you beat them up in a way that there was little chance of them dying from their injuries. They just really hurt.

You enter the cell of the biggest guy and he groans when he sees you approach.

"Motherfu – ", you don't give him a chance to finish his sentence. Moving faster than the human eye can see, you grasp the man's face and reach out with Ebon Power to see what you can draw out from the man. With Ebon Power, you can feel several different 'pools' within the man that gives off an energy source kind of feel. Now aware of these pools of possible energy, you begin your experiment.

The largest pool reveals itself to what is closest to the concept of life energy. The man gasps as you start draining his life force. Interestingly, the drain energy simply pools up within you as a separate entity instead of being added to your own life force which you can now also sense. When an unhealthy pallor appears on the man's skin, you cut off the draining. The man slumps against the wall, breathing heavily as though he had been through a very intensive marathon or suffering significant fatigue.

Ignoring your test subject, you try and get a feel for the life energy that's being held within you. You try adding it to your own pool and feel a slight burst of energy when you add a little. Nice. However, that's not the purpose of this experiment. Next, you try converting it into Ebon Power. A chunk of life energy immediately converges into a smaller pool of Ebon Power.

Damn, if you had to estimate, ten units of life energy just turned into a single unit of Ebon Power. Not very efficient but judging by your own pool, you can safely say that life energy can regenerate with rest and food.

Right then, time for source number two.

Grabbing the man again, Ebon Power reaches out towards a much smaller but denser pool of energy. As you begin drawing upon this smaller pool of power, you instantly recognise it for what it is. Magic Power.

The magic power you draw is much denser than life energy but the amount available is tiny compared to Life Energy. You end up accidentally draining the man dry of the stuff. Fortunately, you don't see any adverse effects from being emptied of magic on the man.

Again, you repeat what you did with the man's life energy with that man's magic power. You can easily add it to your own much larger pool of Magic Power and when converting it into Ebon Power, the exchange rate is about the same. A unit of magic power becomes a unit of Ebon Power.

Nice.

You decide to finish the experiment by draining one of the weirdly fluctuating pools of energy in the man. The effects are near instantaneous. The expression of rage and despair on the man's face lessens as you drain the pool. You realise what is happening and up the draining. The anger and despair faded from the man's face to be replaced by a vague cheerfulness. Tentatively, you try adding a tiny bit of this energy to your own relevant pool.

You feel a surge of anxiety, anger, and other negative emotions for a few seconds before you forcibly suppress it and rip it out from yourself. It's painful when you do that but you now know the risks. Questioning the man, you find that while he knows he should be angry or terrified at being kidnapped and beaten up, he's vaguely happy that he's still alive and that someone will eventually realise that he's gone missing and come looking for him.

The rather disturbing smile on the man's face prompts you into draining the other fluctuating pool of energy. A quick check confirms that you can also drain positive emotions. The effect this has on the man is obvious as he becomes expressionless and his tone of voice becomes mechanical. There's no emotion in his voice but there does still seem to be a sense of self-preservation in your test subject so that's something.

Converting emotional energy into Ebon Power gives you much more than life energy but less than magic power. You estimate a two to one conversion rate for emotional energy to Ebon Power.

There are still more pools of energy for you to drain but for some reason, you can't grab hold of them. It seems like you're lacking the necessary skill or experience to try draining the remaining pools of power. Unfortunate but you've learnt enough that you could probably start some kind of energy draining operation in the near future.

You leave the man to recover from your experimental draining and force feed him some food and water to keep him alive.

After a couple of days, you give the man's energy pools an examination. His life energy has almost greatly recovered though not to how it was before. You suspect that his current condition is affecting his life energy capacity.

His magic power has barely recovered that you think it's more like a normal person has a slow magical regeneration rate or something like that.

His emotional energy is a bit better. You observe that he can feel emotions again but they're muted and stifled. It looks like without enough emotional energy, a person can't feel intense emotions.

After failing to drain the remaining pools of energy, you decide to see if your minions can drain energy as well.

You order them to drain the man dry of his emotional energy, magic power and finally his life energy, in that order.

Observing as your Shadows swarm the man, you note that they have a low capacity for holding foreign energy. They need to return to you in order to transfer the collected energy back to you or forcibly expel it as a quickly disappearing puff of energy. The man suffers the most as his life energy drains away.

First time around, you had drained the man of about a quarter of his life energy, resulting in exhaustion. At half way, the man's body has begun to show signs of starvation. At three-quarters, the man has withered away into a wrinkly old man. The moment his life force is fully drained, however, the man turns to dust.

Huh. You just killed a man.

You were expecting to feel guilt or something along those lines but frankly, as far as you can tell, there's absolutely nothing special about killing a person. Maybe if you knew them or something you would have felt something but these strangers elicit absolutely no emotion except disappointment.

Or maybe this is what being an Ebon Lord feels like.

No matter. With this, you've solved your Ebon Power shortage.

Reward: Gained ability to drain a person of their life energy, magic power, and emotions. Ability to sense life energy gained. 200 EP gained. You pop your murder cherry. You killed a person.

From observation, People have an average capacity of 500 LE (Life Energy), a 10 MP (Magic Power), and 200 combined PE and NE (positive and negative emotional energy).

Life Energy exact nature is difficult to describe. It seems to be something of a spiritual fuel that runs the body and mind. At a low level of draining, symptoms of exhaustion appear. At a medium level of draining, physical impairment and degradation start occurring. At a high level of draining, symptoms of extreme ageing appear on the body. Full draining causes the target to crumble to dust.

Magic Power is used for magic. You don't actually know much about it but it seems to react to belief and mental concentration. Possibly self-hypnosis as well. Not enough knowledge. No visible effects of draining on a normal person. A normal person normally has a small pool of magic power. Magic power regenerates very slowly in normal humans.

Emotional Energy exists in an emotional balance. Moods are dependent on whether there is more positive or negative energy. Draining a person completely of emotional energy results in an inability to feel emotions. Emotional energy regenerates at a steady pace. The normal amount of Positive and Negative Emotional energy is required to feel intense emotions.

10 Life Energy = 1 Ebon Power

1 Magic Power = 1 Ebon Power

2 Emotional Energy = 1 Ebon Power

Ebon Shadows can only hold about 50 points of any energy.

Diplomacy
: You have only one lead on the supernatural world. Should you go and make contact?

[X] Don't investigate. There is surely better sources and lead that are just waiting to be found out there. If anything, you don't know how the supernatural world would see someone such as yourself and meeting with a purveyor of old and magical artifacts might be a bad idea.

You decide that you don't know enough or have enough backup plans to risk checking out the place.

Intrigue: There's a hidden world out there and you have no idea how to properly introduce yourself to it. However, you won't let that stop you from finding out what things are like. But first, there's a bunch of other stuff that needs to be done before you can properly get into being the manipulative mastermind gig. (Choose 1)

[X] Need for a Disguise
: The main reason you kidnapped those thugs was because your face was seen and you did not want anyone looking for you. You need a proper disguise. A facade so that you can do your Ebon Lord stuff without fear of your identity being revealed. Your parents would be very disappointed if they knew what you were now. Cost: 40 EP. Chance of Success: 90%. Reward: Glamour Spell.

Roll: 4 + 10 (Saviour of The Ebon): 14

Your attempt at changing your appearance meets little success. So far, you've managed to change your hair and eye colour but that's about all. What you need is something that can hide your true appearance no matter what.

With that in mind, you experiment with various means of disguising yourself with your powers. Most of them fail.

Eventually, you manage something.

An attempt at trying to change your clothes to something else results in you finding yourself wearing a black coat with magenta flame designs decorating the sleeves and coattails. Your face is completely hidden in the deep black shadow of the hood with only two red eyes peering from the darkness.

Eh, not what you had in mind but this is good enough. Conspicuous but it works good enough for your plans, you guess.

Reward: Ability to appear as a hooded figure with an awesome coat gained.

Learning
: You have been infused with energy, not of this world which you're calling Ebon Power for now. It's different to anything that you've ever seen. Time for some science! (Choose 1)

[X] Ebon Material Testing
: Ebon Power can be made into a solid form, a black crystal full of bluish purplish lightning. Who knows what something like this is capable of. Can it be made into armour? Can it be used as a power source? You must do science! Cost: 40 EP. Chance of Success: 40%. Reward: Learn how to use Ebon Power as a material for crafting.

Roll: 98 + 10 (Saviour of The Ebon): 108. Crit Roll: 60 + 8: 68

You're starting to believe that Ebon Power is actively overwriting the laws of physics to do what it can do.

As a solid, you discover that it can become three things - a source of electricity, very tough and durable armour or a very sharp blade.

Its default form as a black crystal with lightning inside could be used to power a machine by coiling wires around it and connect those to the right connectors. It didn't matter how much power the machine needed to run, a single ten unit piece of Ebon Shard (You're calling the solid form of EP Ebon Shards) the size of an AA battery could be used to power a house with no problems what so ever. Except there was a problem - lifespan.

Ebon Shards used this way lasted about four hours of running time per ten unit of Ebon Power it took to create it. So creating an Ebon Shard to power something for an entire day would require sixty units of Ebon Power. Something to take into account if you wanted to use Ebon Shards to power your stuff. Incidentally, you can charge you phone almost instantaneously with a one unit shard, just remember to disconnect after charging or the shard dissipates in about half an hour.

With a mental twist, you could remake an Ebon Shard into a metal-like material that you decide to call Ebon Steel. With a weight that changes on your mental command, it can become as light as a feather or become heavy enough that not even you could lift it and with your enhanced power, you can easily lift a truck over your head like it was nothing. In terms of toughness, you don't know. It's extremely tough though, only yielding to your grip when you willed it to. Attempts to break it in its normal state resulted in a number of broken hammers and tools, each leaving not even a scratch. The only thing that seemed to affect it on any scale was pure magical power or Ebon Power. A magic-infused fist left a small dent in the material. Ebon Power infused fist smashed through it like it was nothing.

Finally, after mentally reshaping it into an edge, Ebon Steel was ludicrously sharp. You think you managed to create an actual monomolecular blade. Of course, you don't have the equipment to test this but so far the only thing it can't cut is Ebon Steel.

There was something else you found out by accident. You discovered that Ebon Power in its liquid and solid form can be transformed into an edible food substance, you haven't thought of a name yet so you've just been calling it ebon food. With your mind, you can change the texture, taste, and even appearance of this edible form of Ebon Power. Experiments with the prisoners revealed that normal people could eat it without problems and that it somehow converted itself into Life Energy to nourish the body. Meaning you could eat as much Ebon Food as you wanted and never get fat.

That wasn't the craziest thing about it. You could also convert Life Energy, Magic Power, and Emotional Energy into Ebon Food as well. Doing so allowed you to make food that could replenish these three energies. You could make real mana potions, health-restoring food, and even drinks that made people happy.

...

You realise that you could use positive emotion energy to create happiness drugs. You need to experiment to see what the effects of excessive amounts of happiness would do to a person. That and refine your ability to drain emotional energy to selectively choose between different positive emotions.

Reward: Learnt the properties of Ebon Shards, Ebon Steel, and Ebon Food. Able to create Ebon Shards, Steel, and Food. Ebon Power is bullshit.

Piety
: Ebon Power is not magic but it can be transformed into magic in an instant. In this way, the power of Ebon allows you to do any kind of magic, theoretically. You just need to do to figure out what magic is out there and what you can do with magic born from Ebon Power. (Choose 1)

[X] Healing and Harm
: Ebon Power can transform into any substance.

Roll: 7 + 10 (Saviour of The Ebon) + 10 (bioticgrunt omake bonus): 27

Your attempts to make Ebon Power replicate the flesh of your subject fails terribly. You also can't transform it into some healing energy type thing. Rather than an inability to do so, it's more that you lack the knowledge and samples to learn from to do so.

You do however find a roundabout for it. By converting Ebon Power into Life energy, you can fill a person beyond their normal life energy capacity and supercharge the body's natural healing ability. Useless in a combat situation but life-saving outside of it. Still, it's a waste of Ebon Power to use it this way so you hope that you can find a better way to heal people with Ebon Power.

Reward: You can now heal by converting Ebon Power into Life Energy and filling a person up reserve beyond their normal limits to enhance their natural healing ability.

Personal
: With school still closed, you got plenty of free time. What are you gonna do with all this time though? (Choose 1)

[X] Friends and Family
: You made your friends and family worry about you last week. You should put some effort into spending some time with them. The last thing you want is for your friends to come snooping around wondering what the hell you're doing that's so important that you're completely ignoring them. Cost: $50. Chance of Success: 80%. Reward: Increased Relationship with Friends and family.

Roll: 44 + 10 (Saviour of The Ebon): 54

You didn't stay underground the whole break. You remembered to take some time off to hang out with your friends and family. Your siblings are a bit jealous that you've been given free time while the school gets fixed up while your parents have been concerned that you'll be behind in your studies because of this. Fortunately, your school made preparations and you've been doing your schoolwork online.

You also have been getting homework as well.

"Why do you torture me so, algebra…" Roselyn grumbled as she worked through her math homework. Roselyn was ahead in her homework. However, when it came to math outside the most basic, she started having major difficulties. For someone that could move people to tears with her English work, she was hopeless with numbers.

"At least you don't have the write a report on world war 2 and the reasons why there was one in the first place," Ando muttered darkly. Ando was about average in most of his grade except for gym which he excelled at. He was no means a musclehead but he preferred working the body over working the mind.

"Jacob, could you help me with my science homework, I'm having a hard time understanding this part," Christina asked you, showing which part she was having trouble with. Christina, despite being rich in money and kindness, was doing the worst in her studies. Something of an airhead, she was often the person in your circle of friends that needed help not failing her exams.

It's sad that you're the most intelligent person amongst your group of friends.

"Eurgh, pass me Count Cuddles, Jay. I need a pick-me-up." Roselyn requested, reaching out towards your pet slime buddy.

"Bo. Bobobo! Bo." Count Cuddles said with the tone of someone rich in wisdom. Or maybe he was just hungry.

No matter what, schoolwork was the bane of fun times.

There is just one thing that concerns you though.

Having obtained the ability to perceive the life energy, magic power, and emotional energy within people, you are surprise to see that the energy pools in your friends are out of the norm for the average person. Ando's life energy is incredibly dense, something that could only happen if he had a ridiculous amount of it. Roselyn's magic power is big, bigger than yours by a significant amount. Christina's Positive emotional energy pretty much eclipses her negative emotional energy.

Your friends are something special.

Reward: Got your homework done along with your friends. Family and friends have zero suspicion about you. Improved relations with family and friends.
