hades growing annoyance with us because he kept sending zombies to watch over us when we were smol and we keep sending them away/killing them
Your first week at camp is pretty much just getting back up to speed. You didn't exactly get many chances to practice with your weapon, or a bow, or on a rock-climbing wall with added lava. There's also the changes that camp has gone through since the last time you were here. The oldest people have vanished, off to do their own thing somewhere else, like Jordan, or the head counselor of the Hephaestus cabin. You note that while Justin continues to lead his cabin every day, Willow and Lily seem to trade off between them.
"Well, the idea of actually teaching the next counselor what your jobs are is pretty novel, I think, or at least if it was ever practiced at any point in time, it's not anymore. It's something Justin and I came up with when we were both thrust into the role with essentially no experience or knowledge of what we were supposed to do."
"So why isn't Justin doing what you do and handing off control to his second in command for certain days?"
"I guess it's because we have different styles. That or Justin doesn't think that Nichols is ready yet."
"So are you the head counselor right now, or is Willow?"
"Technically, I'm still the head counselor for now, but I'm planning on making Willow the official one before the end of the summer, maybe at the end of July?"
"That sounds good. Willow is only going to be head counselor for a year after this, right? Didn't you say the average was three?"
"For a cabin our size, three is the norm, yeah, though, for larger cabins, it's shorter, usually two or even one year, since the next oldest person is often getting ready to leave. I've just been lucky that pretty much every year after I came to camp, Mom claimed one of us. This is the largest group the cabin has had that I know of. I was the fourth person in the cabin when I joined, but now we have half the bunks occupied!"
"What about after Willow?"
"That'll be up to her, of course, though I suspect she'll pick Violet."
"Not Kalina?"
"Well, Kalina's the same age as Violet, and she hasn't been at camp as long." Lily shrugs, "Unless there's some other reason to pick one over the other, that's normally how it goes. That reminds me though, I need to go check up on her archery and make sure it hasn't deteriorated over the year, want to come?"
"Sorry, Chiron wanted to see me around now, so I should probably go. See you at dinner?"
"Yup," she says cheerfully as she leaves to go find your other half-sister.
Walking through the cabins towards the big house, there's one other thing you notice. A couple of people who should be here, aren't. You didn't know any of them, but you were pretty sure they weren't old enough to strike out on their own just yet. Nobody comments on their absence, however, and you aren't sure whether that's to leave up the vague hope that maybe they left rather than assume that they're dead, or for some other reason. You aren't particularly sure you want to find out. As it is, it's simply another reminder that even though you haven't had too many close calls, the life you're living is fraught with danger.
When you do see Chiron, he looks faintly troubled. Well, you think he looks faintly troubled, but you're not sure, and Chiron is probably pretty good at hiding his true feelings since he's got a few millennia on you in terms of experience.
"Sam, it's good to see you again. How was your first year away from camp?"
"It was largely uneventful, which was pretty surprising to me."
Chiron nods as if you've confirmed something. "I see." He considers some more. "I have decided to step up your weapon training regimen. You are proficient enough with plants to take down any threat you could reasonably encounter, but outside of that you are very vulnerable."
"Why?" That 'Why?' encompasses many questions you have. 'Why me in particular?' 'Why now?', 'Why do I need to sure up my weaknesses?', etc. but you think that the single word question conveys your sentiment well enough.
Chiron's expression turns weary full of nostalgia and regret. "I am afraid I cannot tell you just yet. You will know in due time, I promise."
That's not an answer you like, but you're pretty sure Chiron has your best interests at heart, and he's definitely got tons more experience on the supernatural side of things, so you don't push the issue.
"Ok, where and with who?"
"Justin will teach you how to wield your… weapon in melee combat each morning, and I will tutor you in the bow right after. "
That's… a pretty big deal. As far as you know, which is admittedly little due to your small experience, Chiron has never tutored anyone one on one before. Sure, he occasionally holds advanced lessons, you know because Lily goes to them, but doing one-on-one training for you is… unusual to say the least.
Thus, your first week ends up being quite busy. Between your two extra training sessions in the morning and the mandatory cabin activities like ensuring the stables are well-maintained and keeping the strawberry fields growing, you have little time to do anything on your own.
"So, did Chiron tell you why you're training me?" you ask. You are currently with Justin, taking a short break at the end of one of your training sessions. Justin trounced you as usual, but you feel like you're starting to get the hang of some of the tricks that he taught you. Some of them don't work because of the unique shape of your weapon, but the others work just fine, and you think that one day if you get skilled enough, you can probably come up with your own tricks using the hook of the scythe.
"No. I didn't ask either. I figured that hanging out with you a bit more before I leave for good would be fun. You're an interesting kid, you know?'
"Yeah, I know."
Justin chuckles. "I'm not sure your weapon is right for you," he says, becoming serious.
"It's not?"
"Well, the kind of specialized weapon you've got on your hip depends a lot on the skill of the wielder. You work hard during our sessions, but you're no prodigy when it comes to swords or scythes. If Chiron is asking me to train you specifically, I'd guess that he thinks you're going to be in danger soon. Assuming that, you'd be better suited to swapping out for a sword or spear since they're easier to use."
On the night of Thursday, July 13th, 2000, you are woken up late at night.
"Sam. Sam, wake up."
You grumble a bit before sitting up and seeing a frowning Lily kneeling by your bed.
"What's going on?" you mumble.
"I need to take you to the Big House, it's important, get dressed."
The words, 'Big House' snap you out of your stupor and you change as quickly as you can before hurrying out towards the Big House with Lily. As you approach the steps, you can already hear someone, you think it's Sean, arguing loudly.
"You can't seriously be thinking of sending her? She's not fit for combat, and even regular quests aren't a walk in the park, not to mention ones where the prophecy explicitly states that someone is going to die!"
As you approach the door to the meeting room, Chiron's voice becomes clear. "-one who received the prophecy, and therefore she must go. Additionally, the prophecy did not explicitly speak of death."
"I might not be the best at interpreting prophecy, but flowers and curses together generally either mean death or turning into a plant, permanently, which isn't all that different," Sean retorts.
Lily opens the door and leads you inside, causing Sean to whirl onto you. "And him! Sam might be a capable combatant, but he's ten for Christ's sake." You find it faintly amusing that invokes Jesus despite being a Greek demigod. Also, wow, he thinks you're a 'capable combatant.' "He's only a kid, he deserves a couple more years to train and grow before we throw him into the monsters' pit." All the head counselors are inside the room, though some of them are different from the previous set. For example, Raj is here instead of the other Hephaestus Cabin head. In addition, there is Chiron, Mr. D and… Blossom.
"The rules are quite clear," another counselor interjects. She's Jordan's replacement, you were introduced, her name was… Anne? She has the signature grey eyes of Athena's children, and blonde hair so pale that it's almost white. "Blossom decides who she will invite on her quest, and it's up to Sam whether or not he accepts." She turns to you with a piercing gaze. "So? Do you?"
"You can't just ask him before he even knows what's happening!" Lily says defensively.
"Lily is right," Chiron interjects before a full-blown argument can begin. "Sam. Blossom has been given a quest and she has invited you to come along with her. You must decide, not tonight, but soon, whether you will join her, but before you go, I will tell you the prophecy she has been given.
You shall seek springtime's basket,
Your fate determined, cure or casket,
A mother's gift shall be your guide,
Gratitude, Cheer, Faith, and Purity coincide,
The golden sea shall three traverse
And one shall succumb to the flowers' curse.
"
You have gained 4 EXP in Archery and 2 EXP in War-Scythe-Wielding.

Votes for the next chapter:
Please note that the current year is 2000, and according to the Timeline of this quest (There's a whole post about it in Informational) Thalia shows up in 2001, which is next year.
Also, next chapter will be about preparation if you decide to go and if you do decide to switch to a sword or spear, some of your skill will carry over, but not all of it.
Spring baskets are old things, decorated with the bounty of springtime; namely flowers. It is likely we are searching for an artifact if a deity associated with flowers.
My first thought was that Charm speak would feature heavily on this mission but that doesn't make any sense as the skill cant guide anyone anywhere unless Aphrodite herself plans to hold her hand the entire time.
Virtues aplenty.
In the language of flowers they stand for Hydrangeas, Anthurium and Arum, with Arum standing for both faith and purity. I think this will be relevant due to the apparent springnflower theme.
We should get a jar of caterpillars and name them each "One". Then we can have them eat some of the flowers and succumb to the curse AND fulfill the prophecy.

I'm having some thoughts like this:
Line 1: Unless this is some reference to farms/the Midwest, it's beyond me.
Line 2: It's probably something to do with Blossom's legs. Probably.
Line 3: Either charmspeak/beauty might be used to help find their way/get help. Or Sam/third's mother's power helping, I bet.
Line 4: Not really sure about this, but tho it could be flowers - it might also have something to do with Sam's Concepts. Maybe.
Line 5: Golden sea I think might mean one of three places: the Mojave, the Midwest, and/or the Underworld fields (might be a stretch).
Line 6: This seems like either: the lotus, Thalia's tree-ification deal (except, maybe someone not Thalia), poison from some flower, or the curse of the Underworld.

Also, I don't really understand the idea of swapping to a sword or spear. Our current weapon is just a specialized polearm, and since we control the wood of the polearm we can shrink it down into a sword if we've got the time and focus for it anyways. It's the best of both worlds, and since it's pretty similar to a spear it should be really easy to accrue experience in it since the Spear is the third simplest weapon in the history of man. (The Club is the simplest, the heavy rock is the second)

Just found this quest it is an interesting look at Percy Jackson. When we can inwoupdn't mind if we learn architecture since we can influence the growth of plants and maybe be able to grow living wood buildings later on or possibly build a palisade around Camp Halfblood in the long term. Also,
