We could do an Advanced Battle to get Roland to 2 Badge level then have the other be Exploration. I think the next one was the Knightly Order investigation? Could combi well if we end up looking for a Tinkatink during the Exercise.
EDIT: Nope, looks like third is the Cathedral and fourth is the Knights.
Looking through our bond level with class VII, the only ones who we haven't reach level 1 yet is leaf, Jacinto and manuel. Out of those three, only Manuel is available due to the actions we took this week, so for next weeks bonding event how about we take manuel's?
We might get a bond increase with Leaf from the President stuff?
I'm gonna suggest some heresy and that we don't do Phantasmal Feline next week. For one, Leaf isn't around with Missy to supervise so she'll probably forbid it, but it also only leaves us only one real AP the week before a gym challenge where we want to be extra prepared.
I think we have Bond 1 with her now? So I'd be on board with that.

Unless Advanced Battle's returns suddenly go up, one AB will not get Roland to 2-Badge. Even if the Trainer Card doesn't have this week's XP yet, we'd be 200 short.

Unless you mean do 1 AB and one other thing and the level him up on the FE, which is fair but feels a bit too much like spreading ourselves thin and hoping for my tastes.

Alright, since I don't think getting Roland to 2-Badge level is possible before the FE, perhaps we should pivot towards finding a third pokemon.
It is completely possible to get Roland to badge 2 level next week, even with only two actions.

We need 900 Pokemon XP; Advanced battle gives us 600 at the higher end (since that relies on money and we now have plenty of that), then You Can't Run from a Trainer Battle gives 200-400 XP depending on our roll. We only need the first DC of 20 to get enough to level up, which really doesn't feel like a big risk.

I see the confusion here - the Week 2 Advanced Battle gave 400-600 XP, and the Week 3 Advanced Battle gave 400 flat, without a DC for bonus XP. I can't see any other difference between the two other than running into Theodora one week and Elise the next, so I don't know what's up with that or which version will appear next week.

Notably, though, even if the version with the bonuses appears, we would need the high roll to hit the bonuses on both Advanced Battle and Trainer Battle to get more than 900 Poké XP..

It's mentioned in the action description. Since we didn't have much money this week the action was less effective (which is why it also wasn't worth taking).

Okay it helps if I scroll all the way down the bullet points, yes.

So we can hit Badge 2 with Roland, on about a 20.25% of hitting both SKLL DC 24s for the higher result.

Wait is Advanced Battle a roll or do we just pay more for more XP? If it's the latter we're running at 45% of leveling up Roland.

Do we have any specific types of pokemon we want for our 3rd pokemon. Since Dreepy and Espurr are so offense focused I think a defensive pokemon would work well together and steel types are the best defense pokemons generally, also steel types are just cool. Some pokemon I think that would work for our team is:

1. Tinkaton
2. Mega Mawile
3. Corviknight

Steel/Fairy is a very good typing with 11 resistances and Steel/Flying has 10 resistances and both only have 2 weakness.

Can't be too hard to get a Tinkatink or Rookidee (If we join the Knight Chapter we might get a Tinkatink, and if we ask Jacinto for help then a Rookidee will be pretty easy as well) but Mawile might be difficult. But in general I think a steel type pokemon would round out our team nicely.

You're right, that's me mixing up Roland's XP with our Skill XP. The latter should get us to Level 13 with the increased Adv. Battle gains from having more money, and I don't care as much for getting him to 2 Badge level over just getting a second Pokémon.

In terms of Steel types, a Magnemite is also very solid and probably reasonable to find inside a big city.

Edit:
The line also probably has more defensive utility here than in the games because despite not having the Levitate Ability, it's probably really difficult to actually hit them with most Ground attacks.

I think the thread could probably stand to see what Pokemon are offered up and what narrative contexts surround them before starting to plan out what Pokemon they'd like to see next.

Other people have good points, but I will say that if we roll a Rookidee, I'm probably voting for it. I'm more hoping for our third to be a Flying type, just because...I dunno, even in a post-HM02 world, I feel like every playthrough team needs some kinda bird, and Paldea has a bunch of nice ones in the early game like the aformentioned Rookidee, Fletchling, and Starly.

You know, as much as I like Corviknight, I wouldn't feel safe having one in Paldea, I feel like there's a decent chance the local Tinkaton population is working towards their extinction. I'm also a little worried about any other non-Tinkaton steel type tbh but wouldn't mind it.

Personally, I think I'd like a pokemon that can take a hit and hit back, something with stamina, something bulky. Our two pokemon could be blown away by a stiff breeze, something like a Rhyhorn or something could be nice.

I've seen talk about Roland's growth, but what about Mary's? I mean, 880 KNOW XP, which may only be available for the upcoming turn? That kind of opportunity can't have slid past you guys.

@ArvisPresley I have a question about bond level 2, would we get a bonding event option with that specific person if we were to take the option that has their bond 2 benefit? Lets use Erika for example, lets say the actions we take next week do not have her included as a potential social encounter in any of them including studying at the library, but we take that option so we get the extra KNOW gain, would she be added to the next bonding event?

I'm just saying, you're describing a Corviknight.

Paldea's pool of steel types: G. Meowth, Magnamite, Fortress, Scizor, Bronzor, Lucario, Pawniard, Kelfki, Corvinight, Cufant, Tinkatink, Varoom, Orthworm, and Gholdengo.

I left out the Area Zero and DLC lines, for obvious reasons.

... Although we could potentially get a Solgaleo if we maxed out our cooking.

Maybe this isn't something we want to do next turn, but we did get a bunch of cash so it might be worth looking in the market for vitamins and held items. Also based of the chargen, there's something called a pokefood regimen which will also make our Pokémon stronger.

Wait, Paldea has Scizor? It's one of my favs!

I know what to hope for now lol

It also occurred to me that it's usually worth loading up on new equipment before going on a Field Exercise (farm, farm, farm the Old Schoolhouse), so I was thinking about this earlier.

It also got me thinking about how vitamins and food (which could reasonably either equate to vitamins or sandwich-cooking in the games) would work, and it got me wondering if it's rolled into Badge Level, along with actual level. See, in the games, vitamins give you EVs (up to a certain point, or unncapped in more recent generations), increasing your Pokémon's base stats. You also get EVs from battling though, just like you get experience, with specific species of Pokémon giving specific EV boosts - EV stands for Effort Value, after all, and vitamin supplements are just a way to smoothly get there. That makes me wonder if in-quest, Vitamins are just a way in which the wealthier (or more supported) backgrounds can get Poké XP faster, since we're not really delineating base stats, let alone the various means to minmax those like vitamins and specific EV training.

Technically you're correct.

However that's not gonna stop people from cheering for their favourite Pokémon aha. Spiritomb will be ours!

Huge fan of Fortress for some reason. I always liked it's design. But the idea of giving Mariana a Gimmighoul is very fun too. Just a lil guy who hangs around, steals peoples coins, has a chest they call home, evolves into the Menace of Smogon. Fun!
