Time limits aren't a thing in the Pokémon games and I don't...remember if they're a thing in any of the adaptations I'm familiar with.

They actually are a thing in multiplayer matches. In fact, they even have two! One for the match length itself and one for how long you have to pick your move. If the move timer runs out, then your pokemon will just pick a random move to use.

Tyme would be a Rock/Ice type specialist.
So still somewhat of a problem for Drilbur, at least as much as the Water (Fighting), Grass (Rock), or Ice (Flying or Dragon) are.

I'd say Levincia or Alfornada then, although I'm side-eyeing the probably Fairy secondary on Alfornada. We'd be relying on Roland and his Ghost moves there and he's vulnerable to pink bullshit.

Ugh we did pick the Charmander starter for this region though. Too many gyms that are super effective against Dragon...although I guess there's several that aren't too. Definitely considering a second trip to the store for the Incinerate TR since I don't think Roland learns anything supereffective against Ice natively.

We know Renne can't unlock a new move from nor make a custom move from her Incinerate but could she help us make a TR from it instead, or would she need to master it first?

So two gym leaders of eight are Nobility? Honestly less than I expected with how full of them Paldea is.
There's definitely been hints that Geeta has been using her position within the Paldean League to put reformists into Gym Leader and Elite Four positions, most of whom are naturally going to be commoners. At the very least this seems to be the case with Larry and Katy, and frankly none of the rest would surprise me. Artazon has its own institutions that might keep a...strong personality like Brassius in power, though, and Montenevera is both wedged way up in the mountains and technically the domain of the Montenix family who are, if the Trails parallels show up, secretly old friends of the Chancellor and supportive of the liberal parts of her agenda.

Gym Specializations

Katie Aracelli: Bug/Normal
Brassius de Artazon: Grass/Rock
Iono Kissara: Electric/Ghost
Kofu Algaro: Water/Fighting
Larry Laureano: Normal/Flying
Tyme Quendella: Rock/Ice
Tulip Kihada: Psychic/Fairy
Grusha de Glaseado: Ice/Dragon
Hm. How do people feel about an electric or fighting type pokemon? In addition to just usually being good pokemon, they're also super effective against a few of these gym leaders. Pawmot anyone? I say that for role compression purposes. Both types, and a healer.

Of course, if you aren't feeling it there's always the separate options, for fighting I know people have been muttering about Mankey and an eventual Annihilape, and for electric I've always been fond of Toxtricity.

In terms of future roles I'm also thinking we should get a water type at some point, something that can swim, carry a passenger or two with it, and ideally be able to operate on or above land would be best. Once we have a more stacked party having a bit of dead weight won't be a problem, and thus I propose: Gyarados.

I feel that Mary should probably stay away from getting any Pokémon that are canonically on Nemona's second-year party until we know if that's going to go as canon did.

I'm definitely pulling for a Fighting type eventually. I'm fond of Makuhita, less for power and more for aesthetic, but there's a lot of good Fighting types out there. Electric I'm normally also a big fan of buuuut we did just pick up a Tera Electric Drilbur with access to Electric moves. I think that roles already been compressed.

Gyarados I'm all for though. As long as we teach it Earthquake.

I propose we don't try to focus on getting a specific Pokemon, and instead try to focus on a specific type or niche. After all, the last time we tried to focus on getting a specific Pokemon we got ambushed by a Drilbur.

OK then.

Since we passed up Nacli, a Tank and Healer is what I feel like we need.

What other Pokémon can fill that role, and where can we get them?

Let's not be so limited, I think it's ok to get a pokemon that a canon character has, so long as we get it first chronologically I mean. There's probably trainer etiquette about catching the same pokemon as someone else in your group.

Honestly as far as fighting types go I'm still holding a torch for that poor starter Machop, and would love a Machamp.

That's fair. So for right now we have (Remember to attach Speedy to all these) guerilla fighter and bombardment generalist with Roland the Dreepy, long range blaster and utility psychic shielder with Renne the Espurr, and now a dedicated physical attacker, digger, and possible future field manipulator with ??? the Drilbur.

Support, set-up, and/or tank would be good. Someone who can set up the field for their teammates and/or take a punch and get back up. Spikes, terrains, rooms, weather, that kind of thing. Or someone like the runner up Nacli.

There are two things I want to see from sword cat: us catching it to represent our growth in overcoming self hate, or Elise using the sword cat as a literal sword.

OK then.

People were swayed from Nacli by the thought of getting a Chansey, but I would not really bet all of my money on finding one. Maybe getting a chance for another Nacli another time?

I hear both, however; Croagunk/Toxicroak.

I like them.

(This is a joke in part, because I realize after this vote that there are chances of upsets like shadowphyre mentions aha)

Well it seems the discussion for now is names for our new mole and potential types for the future.
Welp, Trainer SolarGemX would like to battle! Solar gem X throws out Wall of text!

Name wise ive seen some good sugestions including Dorothy or Tita, or as a few are to believe Trails plus R. So we Riisha, Rieve and Rosine (Rosine -> Rose -> Rose quartz -> Quartz? Are we gaining mystical crystals that lets us control the elements? Nope.... but.... *Looks at the various Tera shards* )....hmmmm. Wait, what was i saying oh right names. *ahem*.
Other name suggestions were based on minerals/gems/ crystals soo maybe Rainbow Garnet (oh hey Team RR), Beryl, Remondite (Remona?), Rhodizite (Rhosy? Rhose? Wait no thats galar), Rhodolite (Rhodes?), Rhyolite (Ryo?), Roeblingite (Roe? Tired of r names yet?), Amber (oh! Something new!), Rosatite (nvm back to R's), Ruby (Red like roses anyone?), Rubelite, Realgar (the heck is this), Reidite (Rei? Raye?), Richterite (...nah), Rossmanite (Omanite cousin confirmed?). Thats all i got, but personally I would call her Agate (Not the trails one, The Xenoblade chronicles 2 one, kinda fits not gonna lie, she even had a mineral hunting quest).

Future mons ive seen have been volcarona (if were ABSURDLY lucky) Toxtricity and maybe a water or fighting type. *stares at HDecidueye and Samurott* oh if only..... but hmmmm, yeah some good water mons could be Gyarados, Dondonzo, Palafin, the Quaxly line (not likely), as for fighting types.... hmm Someone said Hariyama, also theres Breloom, Heracross (mega!?), Gallade (another mega)
, medicham (lots of fighting megas huh?), Lucario, Falinks, Hawlucha and of course Ahnialape oooorrr if yeah wanna be fancy (or very suicidal) *looks at Great tusk and Iron Valiant* hmm yeah no Mary would probably bolt if she saw a paradox mon.
Welp, that was a thing sorry for anyone that dares read my mad ramblings.

Wall of text fainted!
Trainer SolarGemX has no pokemon left.... They white out!

I think a gyrados would be a great pick considering it isn't water locked and fills our flying and swimming roles in 1, plus the fact it can mega evolve is huge as always. Of course the only downside to gyrados is the frustration of evolving a magikarp or taming a wild gyrados which I imagine would be equally difficult. But imho the effort would be worth it in the long run. Deff feel like it's worth thinking about as our fourth or fifth member

If we're naming someone Rosine I want to save it for a healer or a Fairy-type. She's a sister of the church, after all.

(I realize this same justification applies to Ries but Rosine's more into it, tbh).

Anyway, I'm gonna take specific Pokémon as they come. Fighting, Flying, and Water types are certainly on my shortlist for the remaining three, although I'll probably vote for the next available Tinkatink out of sympathy if nothing else.

And Paldean Wooper gets +10 priority over everything.

I do actually think that a trainer's most iconic Pokemon should actually be left alone.

Pawmot is the Pokemon primarily associated with Nemona, or at least the Pawmot line is. It's the Pokemon that official Pokemon merchandise associates with her; it's the Pokemon she synchs with in Masters EX, it's one of her Pokemon in the manga, it's the Pokemon in the artwork for her TCG appearances, it's one of the two Pokemon on her sleeves designed for the TCG, it's one of the three Pokemon obviously hers in Biri-Biri, it's her only known Pokemon in the anime so far, etc.

I generally think that if a Pokemon is that heavily associated with a character, it can probably just be left to that character.
OK then.

Since we passed up Nacli, a Tank and Healer is what I feel like we need.

This isn't an MMO. Trainers don't need Pokemon to fill out the trinity of Tank, Healer and DPS.

A trainer totally can run an entire team of tricky Pokemon with strategies that wear down opponents over time. That's an entirely valid thing Mary could go for here, and the way Pokemon is set up won't punish her for it.

I don't think she particularly needs a healer in the party. A bulky Pokemon might be nice, but I'd want to look into something really bulky, both physically and 'special'-wise, so that it can play out the role of the Pokemon who actually stalls out while the DoT's do their job, not just any old bulky Pokemon.

There are two things I want to see from sword cat: us catching it to represent our growth in overcoming self hate, or Elise using the sword cat as a literal sword.
If Elise gets the sword cat I propose we go for the funny fish instead. I'd love a set of earrings or a necklace that means we can set fire to things with our mind.
