Time of the Gods: Into the Amber Age

So the copper chunks are vaild? Though it's a huge distance and WAY secondary to the Moon Sphere.

Speaking of which, how are Holy Places and Confluences counted for the purpose of shrine quality?
Holy places are considered a free shrine for the purposes of extending your influence, and give you a cheaper ambrosia income alternative. Put a shrine on it and it's counted as a normal shrine in addition to that. Confluences provide other bonuses, but it's the shrine itself that benefits opulence, not the place it's dropped on.

Ah, so the Holy Place and Confluence doesn't grant or receive any quality modifiers on their own? Nor to the shrine capped on it?

Why would we put a shrine on a Holy Place anyway?

You don't particularly have to, a holy place is supposed to be a rare location you can expand your influence off of for free. There might be smaller benefits to enshrining them, but you'd be taking up a shrine slot.

Ah, okay. I was thinking that if we're putting the Moon Sphere at our Holy Place it'd probably count as bitchin Shrine Ornamentation, but on the other hand putting a shrine there would be redundant.

Moving the sphere to another shrine would also make it more vulnerable.

That moon sphere belongs in one of two places:
  1. Atop our Holy Place as proof of our power
  2. Atop our enemies as we crush them to death with it
An argument can be made for having it adorn the head of our favoured Monster, though.

Hmm, at present what kind of materials are our dudes working with? I got the impression wood is relatively scarce in this climate, most of them would be working with bone, clay, leather and shell?
I doubt they have clay either since aren't a lot of shallows to speak of and the shore is rather rocky. Something niggles me about the barren though, there's probably something valuable to mine there.

Can we make Holy Places holier though? Make them even better at what they do or make the look ornate/structured/complicated? Make it a better 'shrine' as it were without dropping a building on it?
It narrows out further inland.
You'd be pretty accurate on that. Pre-impact the area would have been a peninsula, so what happened has best parallels to a massive impact turning southern Italy into an island (though of course Italy is more than 30 miles wide).
You are somewhat closer to the middle of the two sides, and the parenthesis example is pretty accurate, though the curve is closer to a circle than an oblong.

Looking at that in my mind, the barren looks like a burn trail from meteor, but it's most likely a flare from the initial conflagration when it landed. Since this is a small map(not even 2 miles wide), I didn't particularly add a crescent shape in so much as remove the convex leaning. Go ahead and tell me if the crescent is more curved. I removed a lot of the shallows as well leaving only some few shallow waters. Since Gaerig has water affinities, I left the sea take up half the map and the fact that we don't really know anything that's on land so there's nothing else to fill it in with... With the Ice Shelf to the North and the Barrens to the west, our Little village is in a pretty isolated patch of land aren't they? Dregs of the Dregs indeed. Is the distance between villages correct? Is this better? Do you like it?

EDIT: Not really knowing the shape of the island, mind you but would this be how it happened on a larger scale?

Also, since there doesn't seem to be anymore arguments one way or the other...

Yes they are. Pretty much. I- Well yes, of course I do.

The concavity is fine. You've had a pretty impressive couple centuries since this event happened, and though the local pantheons and deities of the time may have really cut down on the potential debris kickup and sped up recovery, the area is only just recovering.

That is an example case of what you might have seen.

Not having a map was really bothering me. Before this, I had Veekie's map in my head, so when we were arguing about the Trick, I honestly thought that the Ice shelf was on Goegg and that it was only half-mile away:confused:! I'll try and update the map every ten turns or so(next would be turn 15) unless there is some major shifts in geography/politics. Either way this was fun to do and thank you for letting me play in your little world (*≧▽≦)

Not reliably.
Again, that's what a craft spirit is for. We currently have a sorceror/social build, so our problem solving method is to seduce someone into doing it for us.
Yet another reason to bring Saiga into the fold! We shall turn this fearsome warrior, into a meek househusband who pretties up the house(shrine) with artisan furniture and knickknacks(figurines)~ in return his beloved viking wife will reward him with gifts(pillaged materials and equipment) and kisses(further social domination).(◡‿◡✿)
That is actually a very natural demand. It would be slower than a divine's crafting, but you will generally upgrade shrine level by using materials (with better materials raising it faster and more cheaply), since otherwise you'd have to make up the difference with DE and ambrosia.
@veekie Could we add this to the plan? Since we're still at a low level Shrine, It can only help right?

I have returned! Behold.

YOTA, Goddess of Traffic
A 'biography'
Compiled By: Clearly Not a Supplicant of YOTA
For a long, long time, YOTA was not. She was a vague thing, something cursed when stopped on the 405 at 3 am on a Saturday, but not in more specific terms. Nameless, faceless, YOTA drifted between 'existence' and 'non-existence' for a long, long time, occasionally wreaking havoc, but usually taking credit for the work of other beings.

Then it happened. Cars inching along one stretch of the road crossed a whole mile and a half in two hours. A sign remained lit, but some of the letters were missing. Driver and passenger alike could read YOTA, blazing red in the midnight. And lo, did the people know their tormentor, and despair. The cause of the traffic jam remained unknown to those drivers and their passengers, but they cast the blame at YOTA, who delighted in existing.

Since her birth, YOTA has adored the misery of her constituents, and occasionally goes out of her way to screw with individual people. Most of these people do not survive the occasion. Such focus occasionally results in a lack of complications elsewhere, but she's usually not paying enough attention to notice.

It does a population good to keep guessing, and sometimes she outright blesses freeways or individuals for clear roads or clement passage. This usually doesn't last long, but it doesn't need to - such a blessing results in not being behind the Tanker Truck that just spun sideways, overturned, and caught on fire.

On the other hand, perhaps it was supposed to be a curse. The individual in question is uncertain, but considering that this person is still alive to be made more miserable? Who can tell?

YOTA only rarely interacts directly with her fearful, but some blame her for the difficulty and expense of great public works, including pretty much anything with the word 'Train' or 'Public Transportation' in it. After all, if there are fewer people driving cars, there are fewer people that she can make miserable, right? Right. Unfortunately this has led to a feud with the rather powerful God of Trains, who's network extends across the globe (after subsuming/devouring other Train Gods, of course). Fortunately, he's become a bit of nerd, and is easily distracted by her own plentiful... tracts of land. (Trains is believed to have branched out into Particle Physics, for some reason). As pretty much every other God/dess of Travel is Faith-based, they don't compete quite so much as they would otherwise.

YOTA likes cars. Nay, she adores cars, for without cars, there would be a different kind of traffic (and she's pretty sure that God of Trains has that all sewn up). She likes fast cars, slow cars, noisy cars, quiet cars; the car in the fast lane going 50 on a downhill; electric cars, hybrid cars, gas cars, diesel cars, and trucks, especially the really big ones. Construction vehicles are meh, unless they're actively working on a freeway. Self-driving cars give her headaches - they're much harder to distract and she lacks the knowledge of how - but she tentatively likes them. After all, it is a car, not a bicycle. Motorcycles are awesome in her boat - much messier when things go wrong, as she is intent on doing.

The flipside of this coin is that she's not particularly well versed in actually making cars. Her focus is on the roads they travel on, and making said roads even more awesome - usually by increasing the number of lanes, and thus the number of cars stuck in traffic jams, so she's stuck relying on others to make new cars.

She has no interest in Art or Magic, and has yet to figure out these things called 'Computers'. Her temples are as awesome as they are mostly due to size, and she's uncertain what to think of the various artwork that adorns a few of them. She dislikes things that fly, swim, or walk, and is not particularly fond of Bicycles. If she could be questioned on the subject of Bicycles, 'Not Enough Engine' would be her most likely answer - on the other subjects, if it's a method of transportation that doesn't involve cars, she's against it.

Despite the dreary ol' everyday traffic jam losing its flavor several decades ago, she still gets a decent chunk of DE just by doing nothing and letting traffic go as it wills. More spectacular events - Forest Fires, Earthquakes, Rain, etc - are generally out of her control, though she likes exacerbating those problems when she can. She doesn't want to cause so much damage that her infrastructure goes down in flames, after all, so she's somewhat limited in what she can do.

Fortunately, her supplicants keep building new roads and new freeways, or maintaining already existing ones, so she's not likely to run out of DE anytime soon. She's also looking into branching out - expanding beyond SoCal - but other Gods of Travel are successfully keeping her contained, for now.

Tier: 3, Regional God (Southern California)

Attributes:
Fear 4. Everybody who drives a car in Southern California is aware of Yota, if not by name then by deed.
Avatar 3. Generally a gorgeous female, when she bothers to manifest. A little wiggle and suddenly, cars crash, and her work is done.
Influence 10. Has an absurd number of shrines over a very large area.
Shrine 10. Every Freeway Interchange is considered a Grand Temple to Yota, with more elaborate ones providing an even greater effect. Freeway overpasses, underpasses, and onramps are rarely Temples. Major stoplights and stop signs are Shrines.

Holy Places: None, none of the freeways in question have been around long enough for them to coalesce as such (though a few may be getting close).
Confluences: Probably has one.

Traits:
Lesser God of Mischief
God of Misfortune
God of Travel
Aspect of Humanity
Capricious One
Spirit of Rage
???

Skills:
Craft (Engineering) 6
Perform (Trickery) 8
Perform (Dance) 5
Innovation 5
???

Likes: Freeways, Highways, Roads, Cars, Trucks, The Olympics, Road Construction.
Dislikes: 'Public Transportation', Ships, Airplanes, Bicycles, Pedestrians.

*-*-*-*

Not sure how to mechanically represent her flavor, so any suggestions are welcome. I'm also not totally pleased with my representation of YOTA, may she continue to smile in other directions, but I'm not sure how to improve it without writing interactions (Which I think I'll save for later).

My understanding was that Local Gods got up to like 15 for maxes and regional presumably another 5 beyond? Been a long time, so I could be misremembering...
