There Was A Different Idea: An MCU Producer Quest

I'm not going to vote since it's already decisive.

Now about DC
so far, we know there was a Green Lantern movie in early April and that Chris Hemsworth has signed on to play a role in an unreleased one. That one could be Aquaman which would be funny.

The Director option was always meant to give you a greater chance to get the Directors you wanted for your movies, as what would usually happen is that, when we begin the Planning Sessions, I would make a roll, and depending on the resultI would give you a selection of Directors you would have to choose from for the movie in question.

...But at the very beginning of the quest you got 2 Natural 100s!!! which pretty much gave you a Director selection for all the movies in Phase 1, save for Avengers, which meant we could not make use of it.

This means that the Avengers movie will be the first time we will get to roll to see which Directors are interested.

You can always suggest some Directors as well, they may make the cut when rolling.

And you can certainly bet that Joss Whedon will be an option, the man's been waiting for a chance like this.

Mmm...

*Rolls dice*

Ok, you can choose between Michael Bay and Quentin Tarantino. Do you prefer the bad guys to explode in fountains of blood or to just explode?

Edgar Wright

We know he's got a love of comics, and his pacing he brings with editing and perfect cuts could very well be what we need to seamlessly bridge multiple perspectives in a grand battle together without inducing headaches to viewers.

He was known to be tough to work with regarding Ant-Man because he and Feige had creative differences

However
  • There might not be creative differences between his view of Avengers and our view of Avengers
  • If he goes in knowing he's doing an ensemble movie with established characters he may be coming in with a mindset more open to collaboration
    • Especially since we have a reputation of creative collaboration
  • We've already shown our comedic chops with Wonder Man rather than being one-note

I really don't want us to pick Whedon again. He did a good job with the first Avengers movie, but his formula got stale pretty quickly, and several other MCU films lost emotional weight and storytelling effectiveness because they were trying to imitate his quippy, bathos-y style.

Wouldn't this be simply avoided by just not repeating his formula? It doesn't seem that hard to do on paper, I must admit. :V

[X] Plan Yes, I'm doing this
-[X] [Steve] Chris Evans - He played Johnny Storm in the... less than beloved Fantastic Four movies. He's displayed some clear talent back then and ever since. Not to mention that he certainly looks how you picture Cap.
-[X] [Bucky] Kit Harington – Currently has no previous experience, though there are rumors about a TV show to be aired, still he's really new to this.
-[X] [Carter] Hayley Atwell – She's been making waves due to her appearances in The Duchess and The Pillars of Earth. Something tells you she'd be great for the role.
-[X] [Red Skull] Mark Strong – Better known for playing cold, calculating villains, this British actor can also speak fluent German.
-[X] [Zemo] Christoph Waltz – Also applying for this role, Waltz feels he can work in either role, and frankly so do you.
-[X] Focus on smoothing any obstacles for the Technical Aspects of the production and filming of the movie (Costs all 3 actions)

Yes but if the movie is hugely successful and thus influences the public image of what a Marvel movie is, then other directors and especially the executives would want to copy the formula.

I think it's probably better to just ignore Whedon.

Let's blame the lazy writers trying to copy a great film and not the great film.

Even better let's blame Disney for their complete lack of vision. Avengers was good. Do that again. Just not as well. Hello marvel sludge.

We did typical superhero movie with Ironman and Hulk, period piece with Captain America, comedy with Wonderman, spy thriller with Hawkeye and high fantasy with Thor. I think we can safely assume that won't happen.

[X] Plan CAPitalise on good rolls
-[X] [Steve] Chris Evans - He played Johnny Storm in the... less than beloved Fantastic Four movies. He's displayed some clear talent back then and ever since. Not to mention that he certainly looks how you picture Cap.
-[X] [Bucky] Sebastian Stan – He auditioned for this part as well. That's very realistic of him, and you have to admit he does seem to fit this role more than the previous one.
-[X] [Zemo] Daniel Bruhl – Has worked in German films, and is fluent in Catalan, Spanish, French, English and German…You feel dumb all of a sudden
-[X] Network with Ike Perlmutter (Roll)
-[X] Network with Marvel Executives (Roll)
-[X] Participate in interviews and events in order to hype future movies. (Roll)

A new year, a new headache to deal with. If it wasn't enough having to deal with a seemingly never ending production for Wonder Man, or the requests from Michael to give him another try at the script for War Machine then it was having to deal with the headache of balancing the schedules for your actors so that their previous commitments don't bite you in the ass.

Kit Harington was already proving to be a hassle. Not that it was his fault…okay partially it was his fault. When he applied for the role of Bucky he was also already contracted for a TV series that was going to be released soon. Nothing in his contract prevented him from taking other jobs so he didn't think that there would be that much of a problem.

Only it turns out there is, because filming has yet to finish and having to move between sets is already causing issues with the filming and production for both of them. You swear if you hear another call from whatever Podunk little show Kit is also working on you are going to burst!

Game of Thrones…yeah right, like that's ever going to make as big an impact as the MCU.

You give them a season tops.

Well, you can at least say that the rest of the cast handles like a dream. Mark Strong and Christoph Waltz are already rehearsing their lines together and the interaction between them has already been the talk of the filming crew; Mark, as the strong, calculating and stoic Red Skull melds perfectly with Christoph's more cheery, charismatic yet utterly ruthless take on Zemo. Alone they are great, together they are perfect!

Hayley Atwell, what can you say about her that others haven't? Talented, driven, and a quick study into the mind and mannerisms of Peggy Carter. You see a bright future for her, perhaps even in Marvel if you can play your cards right. It would be a shame to lose such a talent after only one film.

And Evans…when you first saw the Fantastic Four film you felt appalled at what they had done, you felt disgusted at how they had butchered the characters, and you had sworn in your heart of hearts that you'd somehow have retribution for this travesty!

Doom deserved better than that!

But any small ember of resentment was washed away when you saw him take on the role of Steve Rogers, and somehow elevate the character to a level you'd not seen since Robert Downey Jr.'s first take on Iron Man.

For the second time in your life, you've seen an actor play a role they were born for.

With your team all complete it was time for you to do your part. This production will need to be perfect and shine like it has ¡never done before. You need to make sure to beat what Fox; Sony and DC will be delivering after all.

Starting with a catchy name!

Do not vote until this post is one hour old. This will give time for additional casting suggestions. Casting suggestions are appreciated.

Casting Corporal Timothy "Dum-Dum" Dugan:
One of the candidates for the Super-Soldier program. While not very smart, and also grim looking, Dugan is a very friendly person once you get to know him.
[] [Dugan] Michael Cudlitz – He's had experience playing a soldier before from his previous role in Band of Brothers.

[] [Dugan] Neal McDonough – Another Band of Brothers actor, though he's also made some appearances in DC adaptations…as a voice actor.

[] [Dugan] Anthony Michael Hall – You mostly remember him as Johnny Smith from The Dead Zone. Man you loved that show!

[] [Dugan] I'm thinking of Someone Else (Write In)

Casting Private Jim Morita: A sarcastic but well-meaning man, Morita enlisted due to patriotism only to see his family be sent to an internment camp. He's had some disciplinary problems since, but is determined to still do the right thing.
[] [Morita] Kenneth Choi – The man has a passion for acting, and has made stunning performances in both TV and film.

[] [Morita] John Cho – He is Korean, but he has talent as shown in his previous performances in the American Pie franchise, and the more recent Star Trek reboot.

[] [Morita] Osric Chau – You think you remember him from 2012, aside from that he's been in some foreign productions as well.

[] [Morita] I'm thinking of Someone Else (Write In)

Casting Private Gabriel Jones: An old friend of Bucky and Steve. Gabriel joined the army before the war, and there is some jealousy as he sees how his friends have climbed higher in such a short time.
[] [Gabriel] Orlando Jones – You loved his performance as Vox in The Time Machine. He could bring the jokes and the seriousness when needed.

[] [Gabriel] Will Smith – It's Will Freaking Smith! What else do you need to say! You might have to worry about him stealing the show though.

[] [Gabriel] Anthony Mackie – A hard worker and he has made his presence in both film and media. He's excited about appearing in a Marvel film, this might be his chance.

[] [Gabriel] I'm Thinking of Someone Else (Write In)

Casting Count Niccolo Nefaria: Luchino's grandfather and an actual exiled Count. His hatred for the Fascists is only topped by his hatred for Zemo. He is rescued by the released prisoners once he claims to know about HYDRA's final plan.
[] [Niccolo] Riccardo Scarmacio – An actual italian actor. His experience might veer more to romance but he speaks the language.

[] [Niccolo] Antonio Banderas – Spanish is close to Italian, right? Anyways, besides portraying Zorro he also has a long history of performances.

[] [Niccolo] Brendan Fraser – You could very well cut the middleman and have Brendan play the role. You'd need to age him some as well.

[] [Niccolo] I'm thinking of Someone Else (Write In)

Casting Colonel Chester Phillips: The man in charge of training and selecting the future candidates for the Super-Soldier Serum. While not initially on board with Steve, in time he warms up to him /though he will never admit it).
[] [Phillips] J. K. Simmons – Oh you would have heads turning with this one! Simmons does have the look of an angry and overbearing officer.

[] [Phillips] Tommy Lee Jones – Well, his performance is not bad, though he seems more stoic than anything else.

[] [Phillips] R. Lee Ermey - Former member of the USMC and also appeared in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He can be authoritarian and overbearing like no one's business.

Would R. Lee Ermey be a viable pick for Chester Phillips? Because he can play angry and overbearing.
