Iiiiiiiiiiiit's back~

And with a really interesting chapter that sets up a load of plot threads while being a 'mere' 11k shorter than my longest fic...

Other possibility is that the entity in the comb is simply using Emma for its/her own gain.

Heavy implication it's going to teach her magic.

"Of course dear. Anyone would love to be your friend," the comb woman said with a smile, "I'm sure everything between you can be made right with just a little bit of magic."

I mean, it's possible the comb woman thing doesn't understand what it's really up against. But that seems unlikely.

With her focus on magic I think that the "corset woman" may be Hecate.

... I hadn't considered that. A quick google search doesn't turn up any associations with combs or haircare in general for Hecate... But she does turn up as symbology / the design for a lot of, presumably handcrafted or handcraft style, combs.

Oh shit, been a while since I read this. Happy to see it return

I think I remember the intro, some power testing with sleeping on clouds and stuff, opening a portal in her room to show Vicky around, Emma and Sophia sneaking in after and taking stuff, Lisa being saved from Coil, a little on deciding Taylor's costume, her accidentally debuting early and doing her water shackles, Taylor's trident showing up and never making it to her, aaaand not much else, gonna have to reread some.

Anyway really happy to see this again!

A new chapter! I as rereading this and got to what I thought was the last chapter only for there to be another one! Thanks for the chapter!

The mention of a British accent makes me think the comb lady's fae of some sort. Which doesn't narrow things down much, considering just how many groups and varieties of them there were...

I did a bit of a search and found Medb who was noted to be highly promiscuous and whose symbol was a comb. I'm wondering if the Goddess of the Sea is Taylor. Also, anyone have any idea what the cat may be? Since it was speaking Greek? And the thing that Sophia fought... my first thought was that it was a Formorion.

Edit: corrected my tentative ID of the entity Sophia fought.

To quote myself from SB:

Back the fuck up was that Mother Fucking Deep Ones that Sophia was fighting?... well Fuck All Kinds of Duck With a Rusty Spoon, quick someone get me my Flammenwerfer... no not that one the Schwerer Flammenwerfer!

Also welcome back @Grounders10 you magnificent Canadian Kitsune.

Also I see Lisa's Powers wants to touch fluffy tail!

Raijū - Wikipedia

Raijū

The Raijū is a creature with origins in Japanese Mythology. In myth, the Raijū is the pet and companion of Raijin, the kami of lightning and thunder. The Raijū's appearance varies from story to story, but all agree that it is in the form of a beast made of lightning. One form is that of a blue...

I've got a tentative id for the cat to be a Raiju, as according to at least wikipedia Raiju can have the characteristics of many different animals, including cats.

Conclusion: Mrs. Nakamura is Taylor Hebert's mother.

HAHA! More like distant cousin

"Warn the Queen of the Sea. The To Vathý are free again."

Fish monsters that stink and have a name that can mean 'Deep'? bad news if I'm right

Sophia batted at her new tail with a hand as it swung into sight. Yes, it was very catlike behaviour, but she was bloody bored out of her mind.

the youkai cat gave it's life to save her and pass on the warning?

The frog guy started doing that freaky language that made my ears bleed

Servants of the Old Ones all but confirmed

"How?" Emma asked. She needed to fix herself.

Be very careful with what you agree to from the woman.

and he learned magic.

Gekkou_Yoko: It was almost three times.
I would've given it the third check and a few more, @Gekkou_Yoko .
With disjoint groans, the three twitched and collapsed, small spasms running through their muscles for several moments.
Disjointed.
"Not on the clock, so not Coretine at the moment," Taylor said with a shrug.
Missing the first N.
"But either way, it's a good store to start our shopping spree. "And besides, she still gets something from you for wearing them."
Rogue quotation mark here...
Think you're being dramatic again.
Thinks.
Conclusion: Mrs. Nakamura is Taylor Hebert's mother.
[Negotiator] messes up its assessment...
… Taylor Hebert is not related to Mrs. Nakamura. Mrs. Nakamura lacks natural perfection.
...and probably would have facepalmed if it had the requisite anatomy.
"Take a few minutes to collect yourself. We shall talk more this evening.
...and a quotation mark is missing here.
The cat's evasive actions were slowly it down, however, and she was starting to gain on them.
Slowing.
a girl with the power to run away and you can't even fight the courage to fight me face to face?
Find.
She was going to have to clear it when she got home…
Clean.
"Shorry…" she said again, her tongue having trouble forming the word. The cat meowed and though her vision was getting dark at the edges it was like the cat was glowing… She blinked and darkness fell again, only to be blasted away as something warm exploded within her chest. It forced away the cold and she sat up gasping for breath.
And the kitty mew mew pulls a Nail, fusing with someone else since it's mortally wounded.
It feasted on me, burned by flesh from within and nearly erased the man within.
My.

Damn. 25k words is a new record for the length of your chapters!

Cat, teal fur, stars in the ears and at the end of the tail, electrical powers? Sounds like a shinx to me.

And I was just rereading, too. A teal cat? Have you been watching RWBY, Grounders?

Anyway, good to see the plot get moving. Shadow Stalker tried to be a hero, and for her trouble was transformed into a catgirl who may or may not have access to magical powers, Emma is learning magic and believes that she can manipulate Taylor into liking her again, that Nazi discovered a little too much truth and went rather crazy. But then, too much truth will make anybody crazy. And there's a lot more of that going around than there used to be, both truth and crazy. The cat told Sophia to warn 'the queen of the ocean' - which would be Taylor - about these fish people, which implies that they're a lot more dangerous than we've been shown, which stands to reason. And Lisa has been introduced properly to the Kitsune café owner and been informed that Taylor isn't human any more.

Whether whatever Emma's learning would work... I'm kind of skeptical. But then, I don't actually know who that woman is or what she's capable of. Hm. Too early to tell.

Welcome back to this side of Fandom chaos, and thank you for the wonderful new chapter/excuse to binge read from the start again. Amusing seeing things start to escalate again, although I'm sure Taylor is getting horrifically sick and tired of her physical growth being one of them.

I know it will probably pop up in the story eventually but I'm honestly curious if part of the divergence we're seeing is that being of myth and legend had remained in the world but just hidden since that last great war (which explains some of why we're seeing so many show up so quickly) or if Taylor's awakening also is waking them back up (debatable if you'd consider it fast or slowly) and just the characters we're following are having unique luck in finding where these beings are trying to place themselves into the world.

The Sophia and Emma dichotomy is rather interesting, as the wine and PTSD (or trial) from angry fox goddess seems to be convincing Sophia to turn over a new leaf rather quickly and helped further by her apparent merger by whatever the star cat was. But then we have Emma who might be going off the deep end in impressive fashion, especially since depending on which magic interpretation/schools that spirit could end up teaching her. Will it be ineffective due to Taylor being a full Goddess or if the spirit is the remnants of a goddess would that push past any resistance? Hopefully for Emma's sake it won't end with her being being removed/destroyed/absorbed by that comb spirit but unfortunately it's possible and her current state/reaction means it's very possible.

Anyways thanks for the chapter, might say more after I finish re-reading, and I hope you both are doing better/recovering well based on what the previous posts said. But regardless welcome back and can't wait to see what chaos happens next.

It's been a while! Good to see more of this!

Things are starting to… not sure whether to call it 'come together' or 'come apart', but things are about to get weirder faster, though it's debatable whether the people of Brockton would really notice one way or another, I think.

I was expecting Viktor to be missing an eye for his new capabilities and slightly annoyed that the local Saruman was given a red lightsaber to try and match Frodo's blue or green.

"Good girl, Lisa," Mrs. Nakamura said, patting her on the hand, "Take a few minutes to collect yourself. We shall talk more this evening. Then she stood up, suddenly bereft of tails or ears as the sound returned to normal and like nothing had happened she pocketed the suddenly resealed jar before going behind the counter.
missing"
The cat's evasive actions were slowly it down, however, and she was starting to gain on them. She fished the lightsaber from her pocket as she rolled to her feet after a near-miss landing on the next roof. There was a chance she might need it.
slowing it?
Laughing nervously Sophia reached down and plucked her lightsaber from where it lay. She was going to have to clear it when she got home… Hell, she was going to have three showers in a row when she got home. She doubted anything else was going to get rid of the smell.
to clean it

That is not dead which can eternal lie. Welcome back from your slumber.

Is it weird that I'm feeling sorry for Emma...? I mean, I'm not really sympathetic for what she's done before now, but in her currently broken mental state she's so mentally compromised that she can't even realize the Faustian Bargain she's practically walking into...

Normally, when people meet that strange man in the nice suit at a crossroads at midnight, they at least have some idea of what they're getting into before signing their blood on that cursed dotted line...
