Each crystal made is the equivilant of humanity getting a high level Miracle. Plus there's multiple chances for information retention between Amanda and the Makers. Plus the information is difficult to convey. Plus even if we don't remember, humanity will have a lot more chances to try to study the crystals in action again via the new crystals.

so my vote is definitely make more crystals now

even if we forget, each new crystal is a chance to try this entire setup again

An EXCELLENT point!

Also, there's a nonzero chance that we'll never need more than what she can make right now, or at least not at any level of urgency.

No. It is 'Probably remember how to make them' vs 'Lower chance to remember but make a bunch while the best Makers and sensors humanity has are watching'.
"While the best Makers and sensors humanity has are watching" applies to both.

"Remember how to make a Void Crystal, for sure" versus

"Make a whole bunch of Void Crystals right now but maybe forget how we did it, again," right @Snowfire ?

More this:

No. It is 'Probably remember how it works' vs 'Lower chance to remember but make a bunch while the best Makers and sensors humanity has are watching'.

Though the probably is a very good chance. And your dice love you.

Add-on question: Based on the 'detected flaws' from the update, would these void crystal the original one or an improved version?

It's...improved is kinda an odd way to put it. Maybe more efficient? It's not a major improvement, to be clear. It won't let you use one of the Crystals twice, for example. But it might make it easier for the Uninvolved to use them, and might make them easier to reverse-engineer. Improved doesn't always mean more advanced, after all. Sometimes it just means simpler.

This is a very fair point, though don't expect Amanda to be there for the next runs. She's going to need all of her remaining time to settle into the Adamant and make sure everything is in order for departure.

First roll after almost a month and it nat 100s. Hate.

If Snowfire could use this luck when playing a lotterie, he'd have a lot more time for hobbies ...

God, I wish.

I'm leaning towards remembering this moment based on the idea that Amanda shouldn't be even more the sole pillar of Humanity than she already is.

[X] Creation Is Precious – You cannot waste this. Humanity, and more, could live or die on the ability of the Uninvolved to aid you. Take this chance.

Give a nat 1 a chance! The law of averages demands it!

Is making new ones guaranteed to work right now (as in, "definitely make some but maybe no one can make more of them")? I'd rather definitely have some than maybe have only one.

I'm definitely leaning towards making more for the previously stated reason of having more to observe as well as the utility of having more void crystals in the hands of humanity before fourth sol, but considering how there is a good chance of remembering how to make them with the insight option I'll have to think on this more.

This actually seems like the lower risk option to me.

...What? Since they are here to watch the Uninvolved use the crystal if we make more use they will see us doing that, how can they possibly watch us making more if we don't actually make more? That doesn't make any sense.
They're still going to watch the current one get built up into something, and if Amanda fixes the flaws in the current one that would be filling in information missing from their current understanding of the Void Crystal.

It does to me too, in particular given:

In a somewhat twisted bit of irony, choosing to intervene in this case makes Humanity less dependent on Amanda the Savior, since by creating more Crystals it means we'll be leaving some behind even when Amanda is away. That means even if the Adamant gets destroyed, caught in a time warp, or Rip Van Winkled we'll still leave Humanity with a few Void Crystals to be used or reverse-engineered.

The other thing to remember is that, even if Amanda now remembers the process of creating more Void Crystals, that doesn't mean that she'll necessarily be able to communicate that knowledge in a reasonable amount of time. It took a full six-month Research Action to do so last time, after all, when we were creating those Shiplord nanite detectors.

Yeah I'm going with this.
