The Power(Harry Potter/The Gamer)

[X] Say that there are two things we want to talk about, one of which we definitely want kept a secret because we'd rather not be treated like a freak.
-[X] Tell Dumbledore about being the Gamer.
-[X] Also mention talking to a snake at the zoo, and ask if that's normal.

What's up with all this Dumbledore hate? The guy single handedly stopped the 2nd return of Lord Voldemort all the while fighting off the Ministry's incompetence.

Yeah, Dumbledore is a great man. That doesn't make it any more IC for an abused kid to tell him anything after meeting the guy once and probably not even knowing that much about him.

[X] Tell Dumbledore about being the Gamer.

It's not like he doesn't know there is a power the Dark Lord knows not, or anything. Plus I have a soft spot for Mentor Albus fics. He made his mistakes, now give him a chance to fix them, and in doing so, provide us with an epic tier partner that we can take with us to Tank the hard dungeons.

Besides, if we learns things now, he can plan appropriately for later. Without Harry being a horcrux, there's no reason not to train him, and with Harry's unique ability, he's not going to be having a 'normal childhood'.

Vote Change.

-[X] Ask Moody to secure the room.
-[X] Ask Dumbledore if he can make it any more secure. Only then...

Sure, Mentor Albus would be cool. But what's your IC justification for simply telling him?

Sorry if I missed it, but was it explained why we can still talk to snakes considering the Horcrux was destroyed?

GM confirmed what happened in this post.

This has been discussed before. While Dumbledore is canonically a good guy according to the author, he's not necessarily as brilliant as people make him out to be and there are even instances where one could make an argument that he's not really that competent. I won't go into it, as you can Google the subject.

Not to mention he literally defeated the Wizarding equivalent of Hitler.

This was of course after he had fallen in love with Wizarding Hitler, helped Wizarding Hitler plot to take over the world, and got his sister killed in the process.

Also, as has been mentioned, what happens if Dumbledore tells someone else that he trusts? He could tell Snape, who he trusts absolutely, and this mess may interfere with our attempts to make the man not an asshole.

[X] Don't tell Dumbledore about being the Gamer.
-[X] Mention something else: that the Minister wants to meet you with some friend of his. You feel a bit strange meeting the leader of magical Britain.

What's all of this "abused kid" yeah, Harry has shitty relatives but he's not abused.

Well, I would say that it was emotional abuse, his whole life with the Dursleys. Even if you don't call it that, it wasn't an environment that nurtured trust in adults in Harry.

What about add to first ask Moody to tell us the right password for this situation if Dumbledore is trustworthy?

The passwords are for a bit of a different situation, aren't they?

I'd also like to remind everyone that Dumbledore didn't want to tell Harry about the magical protections his mother put on him until we actually forced his hand by threatening to leave the Dursley house. He's got his own secrets that he's keeping from us, including the fact that he's pretty sure Voldemort is still out there (kind of relevant) - do we want to go spilling our secrets to him if he doesn't trust us enough to let us know that the Dark Lord is still out there and likely looking for a means to kill us?

The more people who know the greater the chance it comes out. Also with his age and stress from multiple positions he is more likely to let it slip. Or he may try to learn more from someone else and let it slip that way.

In addition if circumstances change we can inform him at a later date. Though we have spectacularly derailed 4th year cannon already

This convinced me, I want Snape firmly on our side, and not an asshole. Well, a bit of an asshole, but a mentor, not a simple antagonist.

Why would he tell Snape? Dumbledore only tells people what they need to know and this isn't something that would qualify imo

'Not letting the secret out' isn't much of a valid excuse when there's a high chance he'll find out on his own once we're at school. It's one thing for Harry to tell about it now, but if he tries to hide it from Dumbledore... well, I have no idea how he'll react, but he definitely won't trust us as much. He was never big on trusting people with power (for good reason), and if we come off as power-hungry and unwilling to collaborate with him, he might get ideas.
