The arguments for the rogue trader have won me over. Psy knights are nice to have but not something we must absolutely have at the highest quality right away

I can't believe that after lurking in this Quest ever since Assault on Fjol IV, 3+ years ago, the first vote I make is the Husband Vote. Hello people~

I don't think it is likely we will send the Rogue Trader off on expeditions anytime soon, since we really want him not-dead AND available. Assuming we select him. The primary and massive advantage I see in selecting Sigmund is that our heirs forever have a chance at being a Knight.

Yeah the Rouge trader is not going to be going anywhere for a long time. Not until we have several spare heirs and those heirs are grown. If people send him away on an expedition without that then we just wasted the whole reason we are getting Syr married in the first place. Children and heirs is the main reason for this vote the rest are for bonuses after that is dealt with. And with Sigmund we get the bonus at the same time we get heirs instead of waiting a long time with the Trader.

But the Trader should give the 10% to Thrones but we still don't know what that 10% applies to. It might be base which makes it much less useful since all the STCs we got do more than that already.

I prefer to lurk on this thread and just read updates. But since this vote is so important, I will vote for the Trader guy since we do need better relations with them .

We don't need better relations with the Dragon's Nest it is nice but the Trust is the one with the Relationship not us as individual planets.

It would help with general Trust-Dragons diplomacy too, though. And probably give us more weight in whatever political structure we end up in after uniting.
More viable trade partners would also be nice. We have a looooooot of excess basic material to sell off, and we're only going to be producing more.

I would rather not try and extend our control that far. We already push for a lot. If we keep accumulating power in the political field it will start to look like we are trying to gain total control which would be very bad for us.

We can't trade with them because of speed and distance. Not because we don't have contacts or ships to do so. The Trader doesn't change that only increasing our speed for our non military ships would, or using the even slower but safer FTL drive we just got. Unfortunately that is likely to throw the Admech into a civil war.

the issue though is that I ponder how bad it would be if the heir to avernus's governership is gone 99.9% of the time....so we won't be able to send him all the time.

come to think of it, why can't we appoint new rogue traders? who would complain? the conservatives?

also, what can Rogues do that we can't anyway? how often do we really actually want to send out a fleet anywhere? we wanted to send ONE so far to my knowledge....and it got sent.

what places have we NOT been able to go?

anywaay, im going with Sigmond for rule of cool....psyker knights being more awesome due to better trained follows the rule of cool better I think....
(I don't think we will be getting more information inless the following happens......so I will vote for it)
[X] Arrange meetings between Syr and suitors
-[X] Baron Sigmund 'The Defiant' of the Aesir
-[X] Alfons Uberti of the Uberti Dynasty

but in all likely hood, just diving straight for marriage with Sigmond is seeming like the more likely thing it seems (its like 2 to 1 ratio by now by vote-count!)
To be clear, a Rogue Trader is someone who is of a dynasty approved by the Emperor Himself, with a charter giving them leeway to effectively ignore basically any laws. They have enough independence that they can get away with ignoring Inquisitorial directives. That charter is also signed by the Emperor Himself, in his own blood. So like, we definitely can't make an actual Rogue Trader, we could have a rouge trader, but not one that would be recognized across every Imperial splinter group.

Except not really? Like, what do we do that is pushing for more power?
No not that we normally push for more power. That we already have a lot of power and pull, and we use that power to get our wants passed. Getting a lot of influence in the Dragon's Nest while we are in the beginning of a merger screams political power hoarding. Even if that is not what we are doing it is what it looks like.

That's kinda the standard. I don't see why that would be a problem.

That's only for the oldest ones. The rest have their Warrants of Trade singed by the High Lords, and both would be pretty equally ignored in the post-Imperium environment without a sizable fleet to show. And a fleet we can provide, Rogue Trader with actual Warrant or not.

Seeking allies to get more political influence and using it to pass the things you want is pretty much how politics work. Anyone who would seriously accuse us of something nefarious like seeking total control because of it would have to be incredibly biased against us already.

Except that is not the standard with us. The standard is General cooperation to ensure survival. What some self-interest does go through it is generally for the betterment of the whole instead of just one world. This action is meant to benefit just us. with the merger going on the trust as a whole would already gained access to the resources of the Trader and the rest of the Dragon's Nest economic power. So all we're doing is hoarding as much of that power for ourselves. Again that may not be what we are trying to do but it is what it looks like. after all the only reason we're doing this vote is to try to get some damn kids so we can train them up to replace us and our daughter and stay with the Trust Fleet.

I am sure we can send the Rogue traders after a couple of turns. 10 years is a lot of time for them to have a couple of kids.

Plus with Syr being an Avernite, she is sure to have lots of kids.

By that same logic we're trying to subvert and reduce the influence of the Asgard by getting a knight house set up on Avernus through marrying Sigismund especially when we're already a major power on Asgard, or are power grabbing by marrying the Vanir which would badly hit Bertil's position of leadership.

Ironically the only one that doesn't give off this impression is the actual prince, since he's got about 3 people before him in line for the throne.

yeah, and royalty well removed from the line of succession is a very tradition source of spouses for Crown Princes/Crown Princesses which is what Syr is

@Durin
1. Just to check the Dragon Nest's military is up to date ATM?
2. Have the Vangarian Guard designed an advanced Battle Barge?
3. Oh yeah are you willing to say what our rogue trader went on expidition's for? Tech, people and information going by his character sheet?
