How hard would it be to set up a knight house without Sigmund as the chosen suitor?

Pretty much impossible.

We don't have anyone whose Quaestoris Familia enabled and Asgard isn't likely to let knights just wonder off and form their own houses on other worlds willy nilly, especially serving a family who are not knights themselves, no matter how good Rotbart is otherwise.

@Durin, let's say a god wants a mortal agent with power equal to a spirithost. What would be cheaper, making a divine servitor (who will then inhabit a host body) or blessing a mortal with enough god juice so that they're as powerful as a spirithost all on their own?

Just short of Impossible. The Aesir are not going to let one of their greatest heroes leave to set up a house without a marriage to the Ruling family. And, only a great Hero has the ability and pull to bring enough Knights to Avernus and to survive. So anyone else that might match Sigmund will not risk coming to the planet. Sigmund has the advantage for the planet due to spending so much time on it and fighting multiple wars on it as well.

[] Marry Prince Amrit Misra of Karnas- best Intrigue, good diplomacy, far better political ties with Karnas Sub-Sector, better political ties with Dragon's Nest.

(53/7+1=8)

Royal Blood of Karnas (+1M, +2I, +2A, +1D)- Prince Amrit is an heir to the royal family of Karnas, a family which kept an entire sub-sector safe and under its control for over a thousand years during the Second Age of Strife.
Royal
(+1M, +3I, +1A, +2D)- Prince Amrit was raised as a a prince of a powerful royal family, with all the preparation for leadership and intrigue that comes with his rank.
Trained by the Best
(+5L, +5C, +2 to all other stats)- Prince Amrit's family arranged for him to have the best tutors available in every subject, using the massive resources of Karnas to ensure this.
Master of the Blade
(+2M, +1D, +5C, +50 to melee combat rolls) - Prince Amrit has studied the blade for his entire life as is expected for a member of his house, and is considered to be a master.
Master of Courtly Games
(+6I, +2D)-Prince Amrit has always excelled at the courtly games and intrigue that infests the upper level of many societies, outmaneuvering those who oppose him with a combination of subtly and charm.
Veteran Special Operative
(+5I, +3D, +5C, less likely to die, +25 to stealth or spy related rolls)-Prince Amrit was an operative for the Royal Heralds, the Kingdom of Karnas' diplomatic arm and political intrigue branch until its dissolution after the Kingdom was subsumed by Dragon's Nest.

Prince Amrit Misra of Karnas was born the third son, and fifth child, of the King of Karnas, a Petty Imperium controlling a dozen worlds. Like all of his house he was raised with the expectation that he would contribute to the safety and prosperity of the Kingdom of Karnas. Unlike many of his siblings rather then going for the glory of martial service, or the power invested in a planetary governor Amrit was always more interested in the more subtle means of serving the kingdom. In particular the Royal Heralds, those diplomat/spies who worked to ensure the strength of Karnas' alliances and the loyalty of his nobility. In his time in the Royal Heralds Amrit carried out a wide variety of tasks, many times taking advantage of his position in the royal family to bypass defences that would stop normal agents, and to avoid suspicion after carrying out his task.

In more recent years the Kingdom of Karnas was subsumed by Dragon's Nest, their ancient allies. While they still rule over their old domain many of their institutes have been replaced by those of their overlords over the years, including the Royal Heralds, whose duties were taken over by operatives of the Blood Dragon's Master of the Watch. This has led to Prince Amrit's effective retirement.

Prince Amrit is on first glance a classic noble, concerned only by the courtly intrigues of his class. On second look however you can see his eyes always tracking threats and possible exists, and that his gait shows a surety that only comes with with extensive combat training and experience. According to Inquisitor Klovis-Ultan the prince is in many ways looking for a new cause to devote himself to, and that Avernus could be that cause.

they are all pretty good. This is the shortlist, anyone who was not a reasonable choice did not make it this far
I mean as a candidate them self beyond what they bring.

No offence to the captain, but by himself he doesn't seem to offer much. Its the political fire power vs Bertil that's his main advantage.

The Prince is a good intrigue hero, which given that our only other spy person has 1 point on him is quite good.

We'll finally have some use for off-world espionage with the Prince. We could run astroturf campaigns to turn conservative worlds progressive.

You need a score of 35 to bring the chance of dying down to a reasonable level. You can survive with a lower score but it is much harder.
Unless the Rogue Trader is something really special this seals the deal for me regarding Syr's marriage.

That marrying Sigmund is the only way for the Trust to field psyker Knights in number aside I do not want Syr to go through a Freya incident. She is best and only daughter.

She does not deserve it.

Why?

Psyker knights aren't bound by the Questoris Familia, they're bound by being a delta level minimum psyker and training to use them properly.

They're never going to be common, but having access to a knight house isn't likely to impact their numbers.

Having a knight House on our planet will make training them much easier especially because it going to a few decades anyways to get them to a proper level. Sigmund is establishing a new Knight House and he's a Baron that means he's coming with a substantial number of knights already. That means we already have the necessary personnel to establish a training regiment.

You do remember what happened the last time we tried to mess with another planet's political leanings correct? We all pretty much agreed that it was a bad idea and we shouldn't try it again. Nothing has changed from then to now.

I knew that they aren't bound by the requirements of Questoris Familia, I was just under the impression that Asgard would have some sort of fit if we start building them up in numbers. Stupid I know, just the impression I got.

And why couldn't we import him or some other trainer when needed, especially given the number of Aesir that come through Avernus on a daily basis?

Doubly I doubt how much conventional knights are useful in this situation, seeing as knights traditionally cannot teleport (Daemonology is the most OP tree for psyker knights.)

Not a blood line problem and there'll never be many, so I don't think they'd care.

If I remember correctly we went into that situation with no preparation whatsoever, without a good spycraft-oriented character and then rolled a nat 1. That situation is something we can only replicate if we act spectacularly stupid.

Pysker knights are honestly something we should probably bring up with the security council since their going to be expensive and potentially have a similar impact as titans.
